Education is a fundamental right that everyone deserves, or at least should have access to. In the diverse realities of Brazil, many teenagers must contribute to their family’s income from a young age. This economic necessity can lead to absenteeism, affecting both rural and urban populations. This study focuses on the rural context, where students often come from working-class backgrounds. The aim of this research is to explore the challenges and circumstances these students face during their educational journey. Through dialogue, this study seeks to gain a deeper understanding of their perspectives and experiences as rural residents

Azo dyes, predominantly used in textile industry processes, pose environmental risks and to the health of living beings due to their toxicity and persistence in the environment. Their complex synthetic structure makes them resistant to conventional waste mitigation methods, such as degradation, requiring special treatment in effluents and contaminated soils. This study proposed to analyze the biodegradation and biosorption of the Congo Red dye using the fungus Pyricularia oryzae, which is known as a phytopathogenic in agriculture as it causes blast disease in rice, oat, wheat and triticale crops. Analyzes were carried out using liquid and solid culture media to evaluate the potential for degradation of the dye by the fungus. To isolate the fungus in contact with the dye, PDA culture media was used with the addition of 10, 50 and 100 mg/L of Congo Red. The test tubes with liquid medium were kept in a shaker for 7 days at a temperature of 30°C at a speed of 150 rpm. The solid media were kept in incubation at a temperature of 30°C for 7 days. While visualizing halos indicative of dye degradation proved challenging in solid medium due to the rapid growth and intense pigmentation of the fungus, discernible halos were observed at a concentration of 10 mg/L. In both solid and liquid media, substantial decolorization was achieved at concentrations of 10 and 50 mg/L, with diminished activity observed at 100 mg/L, suggesting a better analysis of adsorption by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms, which the biosorption process applies better in the Langmuir model. Finally, the enzymatic activity analysis of the laccase enzyme was carried out with the purpose of verifying the potential of this enzyme. However, there was low dye degradation from the enzymatic activity, meaning that the performance from laccase was unable to oxidize Congo Red in the concentrations higher than 10 mg/L.

    Torsion invariant on cellular complexes
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024-08-20) Santos, Gustavo de Oliveira Cardoso dos; Hartmann Junior, Luiz Roberto; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4217613854338579; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4854-9193; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8534993592760743; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5422-4515
Classifying spaces up to homeomorphism, homotopy equivalence, or combinatorial equivalence is one of the main problems in Topology. To achieve this, we have several invariants in Algebraic Topology, such as Euler characteristic, homotopy groups, homology groups and cohomology groups. In 1935, K. Reidemeister published a work on the classification of a certain class of 3-manifolds that have isomorphic homology groups and homotopy groups but are not homeomorphic. Some of them do not even have the same type of homotopy. For this classification, Reidemeister used a combinato- rial/topological invariant called torsion invariant. Based in [20], [18], [19] and [13], we will discuss here some versions of this invariant for CW-complexes, namely Whitehead torsion, Reidemeister torsion, and Reidemeister intersection torsion for pseudomanifolds with isolated singularities.

Bed management in hospital regulatory sectors is challenging and complex in health institutions. The use of electronic systems and the lean healthcare philosophy, focused on continuous process improvement and waste elimination in the health area, are relevant to facilitate processes, overcoming the difficulties of systematization and access to information. Among the lean tools is kanban, which is widely used in health for managing hospital beds, controlling stocks and organizing patient flows. However, there are no systematized and validated models for managing beds in hospitals internal regulatory sectors. A reference method is needed to improve the interaction between the care areas, health professionals and the internal regulatory sectors of a hospital, making planning, control and management of beds more efficient. In this context, the objective of this research was to propose a visual management framework based on the kanban concept for managing hospital beds. This is an applied, qualitative, technological development, observational and exploratory research. The study was conducted in a university hospital in the interior of São Paulo in three stages: 1) evaluation of the current tool for hospital bed management; 2) development of a prototype for hospital bed management; and 3) validation of the prototype. DMAIC (define; measure; analyse; improve; control) was used as a methodological framework for the development of the research. The prototype of the visual management framework developed is of medium fidelity and provides data for real-time visualization of: bed status, patient waiting times for beds, and decision-making tools for the care team and internal regulatory sectors. The prototype was presented and validated by professionals from the internal regulatory sectors. The results of the research are expected to facilitate the implementation of the proposed prototype and have a positive impact on the care provided to patients. In addition, the development of new projects to improve care processes, applying the principles and tools of the lean philosophy, is powerful for making health and hospitals more efficient. As a limitation, the difficulty of developing electronic/digital systems that depend on information from the system of the hospital of study.

With the ease of access to information available on the Internet, the quality of such information can be questionable. Information is not always evidence-based, particularly in crisis situations like pandemics. Crisis situations can generate an overabundance of information, referred to as infodemia, where some information is accurate and true while others are not, making it difficult for people to find reliable sources and guidance when needed (Eysenbach, 2002). In this context, the present study aims to: Evaluate the quality of information available about Dengue on Brazilian URLs. Methodology: This is an exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional infodemiological study with a quantitative approach that involves analyzing web pages based on CTQs (Critical Quality Indicators), conducted through dichotomous searches. Data were collected in February and analyzed in March and April 2024. Results: The first 200 URLs were selected and entered into an Excel spreadsheet. After excluding 8 URLs for various criteria, 192 pages were analyzed. Of these, 64 (33.33%) had identified authors, with only 18 (9.37%) being from relevant institutions. Only 21 (10.93%) provided complete author credentials, and many were not specialists in the field. Regarding the institutions responsible for the sites, 175 (91.14%) were identified, but none declared conflicts of interest. Most pages (134, or 69.79%) indicated the publication date, and 18 (9.37%) showed the update date. Only 48 (25%) included references and 21 (10.93%) had direct links to sources. Only one page indicated the level of clinical evidence, and 13 (6.77%) mentioned editorial review. All pages denied explicit sponsorship, raising concerns about potential undisclosed sponsors. Additionally, 119 (61.97%) pages had search tools and 110 (57.29%) provided contact information. 27 (14.06%) pages displayed content-related advertisements, and 33 (17.18%) promoted the sale of products, justifying the presence of ads as support for producing reliable content. Conclusion: The results indicate that although a significant portion of the websites reveals the responsible institution and publication date, there is a lack of transparency regarding authorship, credentials, and potential conflicts of interest. The low incidence of information about content updates, detailed references, and peer review points to the need to improve the quality and reliability of online information about dengue. The presence of advertisements and lack of transparency about sponsorships are also aspects that need to be addressed to ensure the integrity and impartiality of the content disseminated.
