This study aimed to investigate how the presentation of a request for help influences the likelihood of people being willing to help. The study was conducted with two groups of participants, one experimental and one control, who were asked to report their recent problems and then were presented with a request for help. The experimental group was presented with additional statements that established a relationship of coordination between the current problem and the participants' own problems that they had just reported. The control group was only presented with a simple request for help. The results showed that the experimental group was more likely to respond to the request for help, with seven out of eight participants contacting the second experimenter and five of them actively participating in the research. In contrast, in the control group, only half of the participants made contact and three of them agreed to participate. The authors hypothesized that by comparing both situations when requesting help, the experimenter facilitated the establishment of symbolic relations of coordination between such situations, which apparently increased the probability that the request for help would evoke responses. The results suggest that the use of this strategy - comparing the experiences lived by the client with those experienced by others - can be expanded in psychotherapy and other contexts aimed at developing empathy and sensitivity towards others. However, the results need to be considered with caution due to methodological limitations.

Since 2005, the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS) has managed social assistance services, programs, and actions in a decentralized and participatory manner. Among the various professional categories, occupational therapy has had a historical presence in social assistance services; however, its formal recognition is recent, considering Resolution No. 17 of 2011 by the National Social Assistance Council. Thus, this study aimed to identify the professionals working within SUAS, specifically highlighting the characteristics of the professional inclusion and work of occupational therapists in different units. To achieve this, an exploratory, descriptive, and analytical study was conducted based on secondary data obtained from the official federal government database, the SUAS Census, covering the period from 2007 to 2022. The selected variables pertain to the following units: Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS), Specialized Social Assistance Reference Center (CREAS), Specialized Reference Center for the Homeless Population (Centro Pop), Day Center, Community Center, and Shelter Unit. The data were collected, tabulated, and analyzed, covering: (1) professional categories comprising SUAS; (2) occupational therapists by sex, age group, unit, year, location (state and region), employment status, working hours, and function; (3) primary, secondary, and tertiary functions and activities of occupational therapists. An exploratory data analysis was conducted to synthesize values of the same nature, providing a global view of variations, which were described through tables, charts, and graphs. The results revealed that professionals without higher education represented the most prevalent category across different unit types. Additionally, professional categories not foreseen in legal documents were identified, as well as a significant presence of other professionals with higher education. Although in smaller numbers, professionals without higher education were found performing the role of higher-level technicians in all analyzed units. These findings indicate that, despite the guidelines established by the Basic Operational Standard – Human Resources/SUAS and Resolution No. 17/2011 for team composition in Social Assistance, some locations do not adhere to these recommendations. Regarding the professional inclusion of occupational therapists, a decrease in their number was observed, with lower representation in Day Centers and Centro Pop and greater representation in CRAS. Their role in essential services within social assistance units and their exercise of management functions are noteworthy. Based on these results, this study aims to contribute to the assessment of occupational therapists' participation in SUAS and to highlight professional inclusion trends to strengthen the profession, foster employment in the sector, and enhance the quality of assistance provided to Social Assistance Policy users.

Introduction: Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is characterized by significant motor performance difficulties. Mechanisms that may contribute to the etiology of DCD include alterations in sensory processing. Additionally, the presence of risk factors, whether biological or environmental origin, may exacerbate motor difficulties during childhood. Beyond the primary motor problems associated with DCD, secondary issues frequently arise, particularly socioemotional and psychological consequences such as a reduced health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Objective: To assess sensory processing and quality of life in children with Developmental Coordination Disorder, as well as potential contextual factors associated with children with and without DCD. Methodology: This is a case-control study conducted in schools within a small city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Participants included children of both sexes, aged between 6 and 11 years, along with their parents/guardians. The children were divided into three groups according to the diagnostic criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5 TR): the DCD group (case group one) consisted of children who met all four diagnostic criteria; the probable DCD group (case group two) included children who met two diagnostic criteria; and the typical development group (control group) consisted of children with motor performance appropriate for their age and no established diagnoses. The children were assessed using the following instruments: the Movement Assessment Battery for Children – 2nd edition, the DCD Questionnaire, the Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Short Sensory Profile 2, and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory version 4.0. All statistical tests were performed using SPSS, with a significance level of 5% (α = 0.05). Results: This research yielded three main studies: Study I, entitled "Sensory processing in children with Developmental Coordination Disorder, probable DCD, and typical development: a case-control study," found significant differences among the groups in all four sensory processing patterns, with a higher frequency of sensory registration patterns in the DCD group. Furthermore, the sensory registration pattern emerged as a predictor of motor outcomes. Study II, titled "Health-related quality of life in children with Developmental Coordination Disorder: a systematic review," showed that children identified with DCD had poorer HRQoL compared to their typically developing peers. Study III, titled "Health-related quality of life in children with Developmental Coordination Disorder, probable DCD, and typical development: what is the relationship with environmental and biological factors?" revealed significant differences in HRQoL scores among the groups, with children with DCD showing the lowest scores. Biological and environmental risk factors, such as prematurity and low socioeconomic status, were detrimental to HRQoL when interacting with the groups. Conclusion: The findings contribute to the growing body of evidence regarding children with DCD and probable DCD, providing novel insights into how the studied variables behave across the three groups. Specifically, children with DCD exhibit poorer outcomes in sensory processing and HRQoL. Moreover, children with DCD, when associated with risk factors, experience a further decline in HRQoL. These findings offer valuable information to healthcare and education professionals, enabling them to act as key agents in knowledge translation for families and individuals affected by DCD.

Food additives are widely used by the industry to extend product shelf life, enhance sensory characteristics, and ensure food safety. Among the main additives used in food are preservatives, colorants, antioxidants, and acidity regulators, which play essential roles in preserving product quality. However, the prolonged use of artificial additives has been associated with health risks, such as allergic reactions, toxicity, and carcinogenic effects, especially when consumed in quantities exceeding recommended limits. Thus, the objective of this study was to conduct a literature review addressing the importance of food additives, focusing on preservatives and the impacts of their prolonged consumption, as well as the clean label trend aimed at reducing their use in foods. The bibliographic review, based on studies on the subject from the last five years and current regulations, reveals that the food industry has increasingly sought natural and safe alternatives without compromising preservative effectiveness due to the relationship of these compounds with product shelf life. Furthermore, the clean label trend, which aims to reduce the use of artificial additives and replace them with natural ingredients, also promotes greater transparency in labeling, enabling consumers to make more informed choices. Although natural alternatives offer health and sustainability benefits, they face challenges such as lower efficacy and higher costs. In conclusion, due to the significant growth potential of the natural and safe food market, additional studies are needed to evaluate the benefits of these alternatives, develop new formulations, and improve production processes.

Shoulder pain is one of the musculoskeletal complaints with the highest incidence and treatment cost. Despite strong recommendations for conservative treatment, chronicity and recurrence of symptoms are frequent. When understood as a multidimensional and biopsychosocial phenomenon, shoulder pain condition reveals differently in clinical settings among people with similar complaints. These clinical differences might be related with predominant shoulder pain phenotype. Thus, identifying the predominant nociceptive, neuropathic or nociplastic shoulder pain phenotype can contribute to more accurate diagnoses and clinical decisions. Objective: This study aimed to classify the predominant pain phenotype in individuals with shoulder pain (ShoulderPhe) and identify the inter-rater reliability of the classification system for clinical use. Methods: The study included 108 individuals aged 18 to 60 years-old with primary musculoskeletal shoulder pain. The evaluation followed a comprehensive procedure based on the 7 steps of the 2021 International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) classification system. Anamnesis and physical examination collected sociodemographic information, medical history, clinical data of the shoulder complaint, general health status, and sensory tests. Two raters independently classified the predominant shoulder pain phenotype for each individual using the IASP classification system adapted to shoulder pain. Agreement of each stage and for the final phenotype was analyzed using weighted kappa and prevalence-adjusted bias-adjusted kappa (PABAK) coefficients. Results: 76,6% of the participants were classified with nociceptive phenotype, 9,4% with neuropathic, and 14,0% with nociplastic. Inter-rater agreement was considered acceptable (PABAK > 0.4) for stages 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and the final phenotype, while stage 3 showed complete agreement (kappa = 1). Conclusion: The ShoulderPhe system was proved as a feasible tool for clinical use in individuals with shoulder pain with acceptable reliability. However, challenges remain in accurately identifying shoulder pain phenotypes, which indicates a need to refine the standardization of diagnostic criteria.

The main objective of this dissertation was to develop a didactic sequence for high school students, focusing on a specific variable phenomenon: the pronoun eu/mim + infinitive in sentences beginning with the preposition para. The use of para mim + infinitive, often stigmatized by different social groups, was discussed based on a bibliographical survey that reveals the linguistic prejudice associated with it. The proposal included the application of a questionnaire to validate observations and guide the development of the didactic sequence, promoting practices of linguistic respect (Scherre, 2021) in the classroom. This research was based on the assumptions of Variationist Sociolinguistics (Weinreich; Labov; Herzog, 2006 [1968]; Labov, 2008 [1972]), delving deeper into discussions about linguistic variation in the educational context (Bortoni-Ricardo, 2004; Vieira, 2018). To approach the para eu/mim + infinitive, we started from studies by Figueiredo (2007), Novais (2018), Santos and Paim (2018), Gomes (2019), Brandão, Biazolli and Sene (2020) and Vaz (2020). The development of the didactic sequence took into account the ideas of Dolz, Noverraz and Schneuwly (2004) and Vieira (2018). The results obtained from the questionnaire reinforced the stigma attached to the para mim + infinitive variant among the students, as well as highlighting their lack of knowledge regarding concepts such as variation, prejudice, and linguistic respect. Therefore, the didactic sequence developed was designed to address these gaps, with the aim of contributing activities that encourage students to think about language use in a more respectful manner.

Faced with the urgency of climate and environmental crises, environmentalism must not only identify culprits but also propose viable solutions. This dilemma is particularly evident in the contradiction between the pursuit of true sustainability and a production and consumption model fundamentally driven by planned obsolescence. As a pioneer in mass production, the automotive industry played a central role in shaping the Consumer Society, reinforcing the corporate need to expand consumption incentives. Today, within a consumption-based system, advertising has become the most powerful form of discourse, facilitated by seamless communication between individuals, corporations, and political entities. In this context, our objective was to describe and analyze the environmental discourse of the automotive industry in Brazil, examining its structure and intent to uncover convergences and divergences between corporate practices, advertising narratives, and global climate reality. To achieve this, we conducted a narrative literature review on the relationship between consumer society and automobiles, with environmentalism as the guiding theme that could exposes contradictions. We then carried out a documentary research study, analyzing 1,687 Instagram posts published in 2022 by Brazil’s top-selling car manufacturers. The analysis considered 27 attributes, counting discursive ones and metadata. From these data, we examined how each brand approach environmental themes and, through data aggregation and clustering, inferred the industry's overall stance. We also analyzed discursive attributes to identify biases, omissions, and the extent to which the discourse aligns with—or contradicts—reality. Our findings indicate that, in practice, the automotive industry does the bare minimum to comply with regulations. At the same time, in the vast majority of cases, its environmental discourse is shallow and generic, avoiding any substantive discussion of sustainability and environmental issues. Ultimately, it becomes evident that the sector is not sustainable, as a coherent discourse is just as essential as good actions. If the industry is ever to become truly sustainable, it will have to confront deep-rooted structural challenges inherent to consumer society itself—an outcome that, at present, seems highly unlikely.

The use of electrophysical agents in postoperative treatment and tissue healing are key pillars of the work of physiotherapists dedicated to tissue repair. In countries outside Brazil, there is great concern to have a greater scientific basis for their use and to justify their application in chronic pathologies as well as in acute problems. The inclusion of some resources to optimize the healing of chronic wounds (venous ulcers) and to reduce postoperative pain are topics of great interest to patients, clinicians and their family support network. Our research group designed two studies to address these topics of great relevance for physical therapy and that represent a major impact on public health and patient recovery.

The thesis aims to comparatively analyze Brazilian political parties regarding their organizational structure, aiming to understand internal democracy based on two axes: inclusivity and formality in the selection of candidates and party leaders. The research intends to address two gaps in the study of party organization in Brazil. Firstly, it seeks to comparatively assess the degree to which party statutes reflect the reality of internal party life, thereby identifying the actual dynamics of Brazilian party functioning. Secondly, it aims to understand how internal democracy is associated with the level of informality within party organizations, highlighting deficiencies in analyses that focus solely on the formal characteristics of these organizations. The guiding question of the thesis is: Do more formal internal processes encourage parties to be more democratic? To answer this question, the proposed research will utilize the first national survey conducted with party members. Subsequently, building on the results of the initial survey, the research aims to investigate how internal democracy correlates with varying degrees of informality, using a binomial logistic regression model. Finally, the thesis proposes a typology to classify the analyzed parties into: 1) Formal Inclusive, 2) Informal Inclusive, 3) Formal Hegemonic, and 4) Informal Hegemonic categories. Additionally, we included a specific analysis of women’s perceptions within the parties, exploring how they evaluate selection processes and opportunities for party participation. This focus allowed us to identify gender nuances that reveal how informal practices and structural barriers impact inclusion and internal democracy, contributing to a broader understanding of the organizational dynamics of political parties in Brazil.

Biosurfactants are amphiphilic molecules with great potential for application in the biotechnology industry, surpassing synthetic surfactants in terms of sustainability, degradability, reduced toxicity and resistance to different temperatures, pH and salinity. Microorganisms found in extreme anthropogenic environments have the potential to synthesize such molecules of biotechnological interest due to their ability to withstand extreme conditions. In this sense, the present study aimed to evaluate the production of biosurfactants by Serratia nematodiphila, Sphingomonas paucimobilis and Microbacterium hydrothermale isolated from photovoltaic panels. After confirmation of the synthesis by M. hydrothermale, production was optimized through a full factorial experiment, in which the chosen strain produced a molecule with low emulsifying capacity, but with surface tension reduction properties from 72 mN.m-1 to 34.20 mN.m-1 . Process monitoring included analyses of cell growth, sugar consumption, reduction of surface tension and pH, evidencing the production of the biosurfactant predominantly in the stationary growth phase and a productivity of 9.93 g.L-1 at the end of the 120 hours of fermentation. Additional tests demonstrated the emulsification capacity of the molecule with mineral oils ranging from 4.59% to 6.82%. Subsequently, physicochemical analyses indicated the production of an anionic biosurfactant of phospholipid nature with a critical micellar concentration of 3% (30 g.L-1 ), positive result for drop collapse, high capacity to provide greater surface wettability and oil spreading with a clear zone diameter of 4.7 cm. The stability of the molecule was determined within the temperature range of 20 to 70°C at neutral pH and NaCl concentration up to 10 g.L-1 . Further analysis confirmed the glycophospholipid nature of the produced biosurfactant with total sugar concentration of the molecule as 24.05%, while the total lipids estimate was 75.95%. Finally, the main functional groups –OH, C=O, C=C, –CH2 , C–O–C and aromatic rings present in the biosurfactant structure were determined from a semi-structural analysis in FTIR.

Music education has deep historical roots, and its status as a mandatory component in Brazil’s curriculum underscores its significance. For blind students, Braille Music Notation is essential in ensuring access to knowledge and autonomy in the teaching and learning process. However, one of the contemporary challenges in music education for Special Education students is the lack of instructional resources that are either adapted or specifically developed for this purpose. This research proposed the creation of an innovative Assistive Technology resource, utilizing 3D printing for the music education of visually impaired individuals, aiming to expand access to this artistic language and explore its impacts on students' cultural development. Methodologically applied in nature, with a qualitative approach and exploratory objective, the research included a literature review, detailed descriptions of the resource production, and the conduct of a case study. Resource development followed a user-centered protocol, involving 3D-printed material prototyping and the adaptation of songs and exercises into Braille notation. The case study was conducted with a blind third-year high school student from a state school in the interior of São Paulo, who used the developed resources. Data collection involved field observations, recordings, and interviews, with analysis grounded in the Cultural Historical Theory of Human Development and Historical-Dialectical Materialism, seeking to understand the social and historical influences on the student’s musical knowledge construction. The research resulted in the development of two 3D-printed instructional resources and the transcription of 23 songs into Braille Music Notation, along with additional exercises for music education. These materials were evaluated and tested by the student, highlighting the importance of Assistive Technology within Special Education. Furthermore, it was found that the student was able to assimilate musical concepts through the use of these developed resources, with an observed increase in cultural engagement and social interaction within her community.

(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024-12-17) Salazar, Guilherme Maruski; Neves, Isabelle Cristina Oliveira; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3479449098249392
The formation of acrylamide during food processing is a highly relevant topic for food safety, especially in coffee, one of the most consumed beverages worldwide and of great importance to the Brazilian economy. This compound is primarily formed during roasting through the Maillard reaction and has been associated with potential health risks, such as carcinogenic and neurotoxic properties. Thus, the central theme of this study was to analyze the factors related to the formation of acrylamide during coffee processing stages, such as roasting and drying, as well as to evaluate technological strategies to minimize its occurrence without compromising the sensory characteristics of the beverage. This study aims to contribute to the production of safe, high-quality coffee, meeting global market demands and consumer expectations. To achieve this, a methodology based on a literature review of scientific articles, documentary analysis of food safety standards, and evaluation of acrylamide control methods in coffee was used, with an emphasis on identifying gaps and proposing improvements in industrial processes. The literature shows that strict temperature control, especially during the roasting and drying stages, is essential to reduce the formation of acrylamide, a carcinogenic compound. Strategies such as more intense roasting have proven effective in mitigating this substance without compromising the sensory characteristics of the beverage. However, significant gaps were identified, such as the lack of studies on variations in drying temperatures, on the storage conditions of the beans, and the impacts of different types of coffee on acrylamide formation. Thus, it is concluded that the lack of research on new technologies to control this compound at all stages of the process indicates the need for further investigation. Moreover, the creation of clear regulations in Brazil, aligned with international standards, is also essential to ensure the safety and quality of coffee, meeting global requirements.
