    Efficient inventory and purchasing management is a critical factor for the sustainability of à la carte restaurants, which face challenges such as perishable supplies and demand variability. This study aimed to optimize inventory and purchasing management in a small restaurant located in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil. The methodology employed a qualitative case study approach, using semi-structured interviews with managers, direct observation, and document analysis to collect data. The main results identified the absence of formal purchasing planning, informal visual inventory control, and a lack of detailed cost analysis, demonstrating that reliance on daily purchases negatively impacts supplier negotiation and financial efficiency. Simulations of proposed improvements, based on management tools such as Just in Time, FIFO method, ABC Curve, and Kanban, revealed significant potential to reduce losses, optimize working capital, and decrease operational costs, showing that implementing structured control and more robust purchasing planning can generate considerable savings and increase the restaurant's efficiency.

    This work presents the development of an educational mobile application designed to teach the Python programming language to young beginners. Using the Flutter framework, a platform was created that combines theoretical lessons and interactive exercises in a gamified experience, incorporating mechanics such as a life system, experience points (XP), and progressive module unlocking. The application architecture was based on the repository standard, ensuring scalability and maintainability, while the backend was implemented with Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore. The prototype demonstrates that the proposed approach is effective in engaging the target audience and providing a more dynamic and motivating learning journey, meeting the established pedagogical and technological objectives.

    The management of electronic waste has become one of the greatest environmental challenges of contemporary times, especially in developing countries such as Brazil. With the significant increase in the consumption of electrical and electronic equipment and the rapid pace of technological obsolescence, the volume of improperly discarded e-waste has grown, generating considerable socio-environmental impacts. In this context, the circular economy emerges as a strategic alternative to the traditional linear model, promoting resource reuse, waste reduction, and the valorization of critical materials. This study aimed to analyze, through a literature review, the main challenges and opportunities related to electronic waste management in Brazil from the perspective of the circular economy. The results revealed that, although the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) represented an important legal milestone, its effective implementation still faces barriers such as lack of inspection, low public awareness, and limited infrastructure for selective collection and recycling. On the other hand, initiatives in remanufacturing, urban mining, the use of digital technologies, and the role of cooperatives have shown potential to optimize the reverse chain and boost circularity. The research also highlighted the importance of articulation among government, the productive sector, and civil society to strengthen sustainable practices. It is concluded that the transition to a circular economy in the management of electronic waste in Brazil requires regulatory advances, investments in technological innovation, environmental education programs, and incentives for shared responsibility. Only through an integrated approach will it be possible to minimize environmental impacts, promote social inclusion, and foster a more sustainable development model.

    This work proposed the application of Critical-Transformative Environmental Education through the Generator Theme approach, resulting in the study of bird ecology as a curricular and teaching-learning axis within the context of a public state school in a municipality in the interior of São Paulo. To this end, an action research methodology was used, grounded in the Organizational Moments of environmental practices via generative themes. Through active listening to the students and an analysis of their conceptions about the environment, a gap was identified between popular knowledge and the scientific understanding essential for citizen environmental education. The focus on bird ecology made it possible to explore biological, ecological, and social content, valuing students' concrete reality and promoting critical reflection on their relationship with the environment. The research revealed that, despite the constant presence of birds in people’s daily lives, their ecological role is often overlooked in the school setting. This work highlights the importance of pedagogical practices that break away from traditional models and prioritize the collective construction of knowledge, in dialogue with the lived experiences of students.

    This paper provides a historical approach to the coffee commodity in the state of São Paulo through a narrative review. Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer and exporter, and the Port of Santos, in São Paulo, has contributed significantly to consolidating this position over the decades. Cultivated primarily in the Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora species, coffee shaped social dynamics in the state of São Paulo, which for many years was the largest coffee producer in Brazil. Production in the state followed national patterns: for large-scale export, a structure that led to political disputes, the slavery era, as well as the racist legacy of this practice, the elitism of "Café society," the popularization of the everyday black coffee, and the return of gourmet coffee with "postmodern coffee." After the decline of coffee in the state, São Paulo became the third largest coffee producer in Brazil, but has the opportunity to integrate into current trends with the growing appreciation of differentiated and certified coffees, in line with contemporary demands for sustainability and innovation in the global market.

    Students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder may present characteristics associated with sensory and behavioral changes, and may demonstrate a greater need for support in their development. The objective of this study was to evaluate the development of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder enrolled in early childhood education, using the Operationalized Portage Inventory (OPI), to observe whether their performance is in accordance with what is expected for their age group, and to apply interventions based on performances below what is expected for their age group. Three children enrolled in the regular education system in the Early Childhood Education stage, aged between 3 and 6 years, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) participated in the study. Data collection was carried out in three stages: application of the pre-test (OPI), interventions based on the identified needs, and application of the post-test (OPI) to assess progress. Data analysis consisted of comparing the performances obtained before and after the interventions. The results showed progress in the children's development, both in the skills directly worked on during the interventions and in other areas of development, indicating the effectiveness of the practices applied.

    Processo de produção de etanol de segunda geração (E2G)

    Second-generation ethanol (2G Ethanol), also known as bioethanol, green ethanol, or cellulosic ethanol, is an advanced biofuel made from the residual materials left over from the production of conventional ethanol (first-generation ethanol) and sugar. It is a product that utilizes raw materials with low environmental impact that would otherwise be discarded, offering excellent logistical advantages. Chemically, second-generation ethanol (2G Ethanol) is the same as first-generation ethanol (1G); the main difference lies in the production method, which uses plant biomass, repurposing agricultural residues such as straw, leaves, bagasse, wood chips, and others. The production of second-generation ethanol involves a highly technological process including biomass pretreatment, hydrolysis, and subsequent fermentation. Among the advantages of this production process are: the utilization of residues such as sugarcane bagasse and straw, corn leftovers, wheat straw, and more, which would normally be discarded or burned. This contributes to the circular economy by transforming waste into renewable energy, promoting efficient use of resources, and reducing waste. The process also yields a higher output per hectare, meaning more ethanol is produced per cultivated area without the need to expand plantations, which helps preserve forests and other ecosystems. It strengthens a clean and renewable energy matrix and reduces dependence on fossil fuels. Finally, it contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as its production emits up to 90% less CO₂ compared to fossil fuels, and even less than first-generation ethanol. Currently, this production process is considered high-cost because the conversion of cellulose and hemicellulose into fermentable sugars is technically complex and requires the use of enzymes or thermochemical processes that are still expensive. Despite technological advances, the conversion efficiency is still lower than that of first-generation ethanol, which affects production profitability. However, looking at future prospects, costs are expected to decrease as the technology matures and scales up, in addition to benefits from tax incentives and the growing demand for cleaner fuels. The production of 2G Ethanol can be crucial for countries aiming to meet decarbonization targets and achieve a greener energy transition. In summary, second-generation ethanol is considered a promising solution to global energy challenges, promoting more efficient use of biomass and reinforcing Brazil’s role as a global leader in biofuel production.

    Projeto de um cozedor de massa B para aumento de produção de açúcar branco

    Brazil is the world’s largest sugar producer, driven by a well-established sugar-energy sector of great economic importance. Although ethanol plays a significant role in the renewable energy matrix, the international market has increasingly focused on sugar, whose prices have encouraged an increase in the sugar production mix. In this context, the massecuite boiling stage was modeled in a real sugar and ethanol plant, with the objective of developing a project for a B massecuite vacuum pan, designed to meet the magma demand of the A massecuite pans and thus increase the production of white crystal sugar. The impacts of the project on other plant sectors, such as massecuite centrifugation and sugar drying, were assessed through mass balances, as well as on the juice evaporation and heating sector, through the development of the corresponding steam balance. As a result, the sugar production mix increased from 56.33% to 65.20%, representing an additional output of 192.08 tons of sugar per day. The economic feasibility of the project was confirmed, with an estimated financial gain of R$ 20.78 million over a single harvest, already accounting for the equipment acquisition and installation costs. Finally, the detailed design of the proposed vacuum pan was presented, including accessories, instrumentation, and process modeling. It was concluded that the design of the B massecuite vacuum pan is technically and economically feasible, and may support future implementations in the industrial unit under study.

    This article presents the production of a series of videos about the LTspice circuit simulation software. The software was chosen because it is reliable, free and easy to access, both for electrical engineering students and anyone else interested in electronics-related subjects. This project is an opportunity to update the video course developed in 2023 by the student Gabriel S. da Silva, since LTspice has undergone some changes in its interface due to updates. Eleven videos were developed, covering various LTspice features, also including examples and demonstrations of electronic circuits. The aim of this project is to expand at least some of the information acquired in academic circles to society in general, promoting the democratization of knowledge.

    With the intensification of industrialization, the discharge of contaminants into the atmosphere increased, causing impacts on the environment. Furthermore, the high generation of agro-industrial waste has motivated the reuse of materials. In this sense, the development of technologies capable of treating polluted air and effluents becomes increasingly necessary, as well as the discovery of applications with greater added value for waste. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the feasibility of incorporating sugar cane bagasse ash into polymeric nanofibers for use as filtering media for the treatment of contaminated air and water. The ash underwent grinding and sieving and the material was characterized to obtain particle size distribution, density, surface area and chemical composition. Cellulose acetate nanofibers were produced using the electrospinning technique. Ash was added to the polymeric solution, varying its mass from 185 to 1000 mg. The efficiency in collecting nanoparticles from the air was measured with an electric mobility particle analyzer and the pressure drop with a digital manometer. Adsorption tests were carried out with methylene blue solution in an experimental unit and the results were obtained using a UV/VIS spectrophotometer. The characterization of the ash indicated its adsorbent nature, given the high surface area, in the range of 51.40 to 95.40 m²/g, and the presence of silicon dioxide in 80.77%. Regarding incorporation, the addition of ash changed the structural and morphological characteristics of the nanofibers, causing a decrease in diameter. Among the filter media produced, those that showed the best performance were those with 6 hours of electrospinning, with emphasis on those with 185 and 500 mg of CBCA. Therefore, the results indicate that the incorporation of ash into nanofibers is promising.

    The scarcity of accessible teaching materials compromises the educational inclusion of students with visual impairments, especially in science education in Brazil. This study aimed to validate tactile prototypes developed as assistive technology tools for teaching Chemistry to visually impaired adolescents. An action-research methodology was adopted, involving the application of the Quebec User Evaluation of Satisfaction with Assistive Technology (QUEST 2.0) questionnaire and qualitative interviews with five basic education Chemistry teachers. The results indicated high levels of satisfaction in criteria such as durability, ease of use, and effectiveness, as well as positive perceptions regarding material quality, usability, accessibility, and pedagogical relevance of the prototypes. It is concluded that the evaluated resources have the potential to promote more autonomous, sensory, and inclusive learning, benefiting both students with visual impairments and the general student population.

    Produção e aplicação de corantes naturais na indústria de alimentos: uma análise sistemática da literatura

    Natural dyes can be obtained from plants, invertebrates or minerals, the most common being those of plant origin, such as roots, pulp, bark, leaves and wood, or from biological sources, such as fungi. Renewable and generally non-toxic, natural dyes from plants are an interesting alternative, but they have limited ranges of color and properties of use, in addition to depending on the seasonality and abundance of plant growth in that season. Dyes extracted from fungi can be grown in the laboratory, cheaply and quickly, using waste as raw material, and are therefore renewable, are also non-toxic and have a wider range of nuclei and properties than dyes of plant origin. The natural dye industry is growing mainly due to the increasing demand from consumers, who prefer healthier products produced with greater environmental awareness. Studies have revealed a great diversity of natural sources of dyes, with applications in different productive sectors. The large-scale application of natural dyes still brings many challenges, especially with regard to the sustainability of the supply of these new raw materials, sources of dyes, to the industry. In addition to the seasonality already mentioned, some interesting species are native, endemic and produced from byproducts of the agroindustry. In the past, the research group on Particulate Systems of the Department of Chemical Engineering at UFSCar studied the use of dried annatto powder as a coloring agent for sausages, replacing the so-called “haems”, a chemical compound that, when it reaches the intestine, can irritate or damage its cells, increasing the risk of cancer. Widely cultivated in northern Brazil, annatto is today a source of coloring commonly found in the dairy industry. This undergraduate thesis describes, in an informative manner, a scenario of the current situation of both the production and application of natural dyes in the food industry. The literature review showed that, despite advances and growing interest from industry and academia, there are still significant gaps in practical and applied knowledge about natural dyes, which makes the challenges in the area even more relevant. Issues such as instability in the face of light, oxygen and temperature, removal costs, color standardization and the possibilities of effectively replacing synthetic dyes are still challenges. In addition, studies indicate that consumer accessibility and the perception of added value to natural products are fundamental elements for solutions to be adopted on a large scale. However, these perceptions still vary greatly according to socioeconomic profile and geographic region, which reinforces the need for interdisciplinary and regional research on the subject.

    Given the importance of assessing child development, the objective of this study was to analyze the development of early childhood education children using the Operationalized Portage Inventory. Fourteen children aged 4 to 5 participated in the study: six girls, one with ASD, and eight boys, from two private schools in a city in the interior of São Paulo. The inclusion criteria for this study were: (a) students aged 4 to 5; (b) students attending school who agreed to participate; and (c) parents/guardians authorized their participation. After approval by the Research Ethics Committee and the board of directors responsible for the private schools, parents/guardians of students who met the study criteria were invited and informed about the research objective and how data collection would occur. After consenting to participate by signing the Informed Consent Form, the Family Environment Resource Inventory was provided to better understand these children's routines, including their use of free time, outings, shared activities with their parents at home, toys and books, and other information. The parent/guardian was also asked to answer the following questions: date of birth; how long the child has been attending school; extracurricular activities/professional services received by the child; any diagnosis; and birth (preterm, full-term, or post-term). The children's development assessment sessions took place in the classroom. The researcher observed and recorded the children's behaviors, considering the five developmental areas of the Operationalized Portage Inventory (motor development, cognition, language, socialization, and self-care). After data collection, a report on the child's performance was provided to the parent/guardian. The results showed that three participants performed above the expected level for their age group in all areas of development assessed; nine participants performed within the expected range for their age group in the areas of motor development, cognition, language, socialization, and self-care difficulties. Two participants, one with ASD, performed below the expected range for their age group in all areas assessed. Overall, the data analyzed demonstrate how the opportunities offered to children directly impact their overall development and how family interaction contributes to development.

    This work addresses the application of Fuzzy logic techniques to noise filtering in blood pressure signals obtained from automatic sphygmomanometers. The central problem lies in the presence of noise and distortions in the oscillometric pressure signals, which compromise measurement accuracy and clinical diagnosis. The main objective is to develop and compare methods based on Fuzzy logic, such as Fuzzy C-Means, Fuzzy inference systems, Fuzzy TOPSIS, and Fuzzy rules, in order to improve the quality of processed signals. This research is justified by the growing demand for more reliable and accessible medical devices, considering that the accuracy of blood pressure readings is crucial for public health. The methodology involved generating blood pressure signals with predetermined noise levels, implementing the fuzzy methods in a simulation environment, and evaluating the results based on performance metrics established by the AAMI standard. The final considerations indicate that certain fuzzy approaches demonstrated effective noise reduction capabilities, with significant improvements in error metrics, highlighting their potential for application in non-invasive blood pressure measurement systems.

    Studies on solid state fermentation (SSF) have gained prominence in recent years due to their potential to produce enzymes for biofuels using agro-industrial solid waste, fitting into the biorefinery concept. Despite its advantages, SSF still faces challenges and limitations such as the formation of thermal gradients in packed bed bioreactors, which are the most suitable models for filamentous fungi, microorganisms that are better adapted to this type of bioprocess. Given this context, the objective of this work was to propose thermal control strategies to prevent or mitigate overheating in these bioreactors. To achieve this, one-dimensional pseudo-homogeneous energy transfer equations in porous media arranged in packed beds were used to model different aeration schemes and operational conditions, with the aid of MATLAB software. The strategies evaluated included varying the inlet air temperature and flow rate, as well as modifying the aeration configuration by implementing central or bidirectional aeration compared to the traditional unidirectional axial aeration model. The proposed schemes were simulated in a case study involving the production of cellulase, an enzyme of great interest to the biofuels sector, by two fungi: Myceliophthora thermophila I-1D3b (thermophilic) and Aspergillus niger (mesophilic). In addition to the proposed strategies, simulation results from the literature involving flow direction reversal aeration were compared with experimental data from a packed bed bioreactor using this same type of aeration. All the strategies tested showed promise in reducing overheating in the bed, based on the simulation results obtained in MATLAB. It was concluded that these alternatives have potential for experimental implementation, with particular emphasis on the modifications in aeration configuration, which showed greater efficiency in reducing overheating. This contributed to better fungal growth, especially for temperature-sensitive microorganisms such as A. niger.

    This study aimed to gather recommendations for pedagogical actions aimed at preventing gender-based violence among adolescents in schools, grounded in the dialogic perspective. To this end, a bibliographic research was conducted, using content analysis procedures to examine whether there are international contributions to the field, through scientific articles retrieved from the CREA (Community of Research on Excellence for All) portal, and to draw a comparison with national academic productions. The analysis revealed several recommendations in the international articles, which were organized into three categories: “Involvement of the entire educational community,” “Peer relationships,” and “School environment.” When compared to the national context, both similarities and differences emerged: while Brazilian articles predominantly focus on denouncing the problem, offering few concrete proposals for intervention, the studies of the Dialogic Learning approach emphasize prevention and resolution strategies based on collective engagement and transformative practices. It is concluded that, although awareness of gender-based violence among adolescents in schools is increasing in Brazil, there are still significant gaps in the implementation of effective and integrated pedagogical actions, highlighting the relevance of drawing inspiration from successful educational actions.

    This work evaluates the techno-economic feasibility of the selective hydrogenation of carbon dioxide (CO₂) to methanol, in response to the growing demand for cleaner energy sources and the global commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Methanol is a key chemical in both the chemical and energy industries, serving as a feedstock for various products or as an energy carrier. Its production from CO₂ and green hydrogen represents a promising alternative for residual carbon valorization and environmental impact mitigation. The study employs process modeling using Aspen Plus for thermochemical and phase equilibrium simulation, and Aspen Process Economic Analyzer for the economic assessment. The proposed industrial-scale model includes feed compression, catalytic reaction under optimized conditions (200 °C, 50 and 100 bar), and product separation. Operating parameters were selected based on experimental data from the literature to reflect realistic and technically feasible scenarios. A multivariate economic analysis was conducted through a design of experiments matrix that considered variations in feedstock prices (CO₂, H₂, CO) and plant lifetime. Key economic indicators were calculated, including capital expenditures (CAPEX) ranging from USD 9.7 to 12.0 million, operating expenditures (OPEX) from USD 6.2 to 8.5 million/year, minimum selling price (MSP) of methanol between USD 1.85 and 3.84/kg, and net present value (NPV) as low as USD 738 million. The results highlight the main technological bottlenecks and suggest process improvements to enhance viability. Despite current challenges, particularly the high cost of green hydrogen, future scenarios with decarbonization incentives and technological advancements may enable the economic feasibility of this sustainable route.

    Data intelligence, through technologies such as Big Data, can generate competitive advantage in a highly concentrated and competitive market. Therefore, the present study aims to analyze the use of data in strategic decision- making within the acquiring sector in Brazil. Based on a qualitative approach and employing the case study method, interviews were conducted with professionals working in one of the major acquiring companies in the country, seeking to identify the role of data in strategy formulation. The research demonstrates that companies in this specific industry, when able to capture, integrate, and interpret relevant data, have a greater ability to adjust their strategies in real time, optimizing resources and expanding their market share. The analysis also highlights the transition from a consolidated duopoly to a more fragmented scenario, driven by cost-focused and differentiation strategies or a combination of both supported by timely analytical insights. The study concludes that the structured and strategic use of data is a determining factor for competitiveness in the Brazilian acquiring sector, especially in volatile contexts such as those observed during and after the pandemic.

    This study evaluated the effects of intermittent air flow (Q) and bed homogenization period (BHP) on the performance of the biodrying process of orange solid waste biomass (OSWB), aiming at its energy recovery. Experiments were conducted in an automated biodrying unit following a central composite design (CCD), with continuous monitoring of temperature, airflow, and mass variation. The results showed that increasing Q enhanced moisture removal by convection, while shorter BHP intervals compromised the thermal rise of the system. No experimental condition was identified that could simultaneously maximize bed temperature and dehydration. In trials with higher microbial activity, oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production, and preservation of the higher heating value (HHV) were observed, indicating a more effective biodrying process. It is concluded that, although intermittent homogenization is effective in conventional drying, under the conditions studied, it may hinder biodrying by increasing thermal losses and disrupting the system’s biological balance. The findings confirm the potential of OSWB as a bioenergy source and highlight the importance of future strategies focused on biomass standardization, such as microbial inoculation, to ensure greater reproducibility and process efficiency.

    Análise de riscos em uma planta industrial de produção de poliuretano: aplicação da metodologia HAZOP

    The polyurethane production process, despite being well known and carried out for a long time and consisting of few steps, it is still a difficult process to control due to the nature of its formation reaction; and it presents significant risks, both of significant material damage and of harm to the lives of exposed people. In view of this scenario, a risk analysis for an industrial production plant of such a product is essential to identify, evaluate and control the hazards of this activity in order to protect the integrity of workers and production facilities. Based on this, this study aims to identify possible failure scenarios or deviations from the desired conditions that may compromise the safety of the process using the HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) analysis methodology, and thus propose effective measures to mitigate and control the identified risks. As a result of this study, 5 critical and 9 severe scenarios were identified, totaling 54% of the scenarios analyzed, all of them having suggestions on how to mitigate those risks. This made clear the importance of safety analysis for the development of this process and the complexity of a complete analysis for the satisfactory safety of an installation of this type.
