Habilidades linguística, cognitiva, sociocultural e socioemocional no currículo paulista de língua inglesa para os anos iniciais do ensino fundamental: uma análise crítico-reflexiva à luz de dimensões do letramento
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-08-11) Buto, Marcia Yoshiko; Borges, Elaine Ferreira do Vale; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8872819626199594; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8310-3539; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3866551579245457; https://orcid.org/0009-0004-0253-2702; Gattolin, Sandra Regina Buttros; Duboc, Ana Paula Martinez; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9228036521343293; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8933339247096718; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5453-3510; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3136-3504
This research offers a critical analysis of the São Paulo State Curriculum for English Language Teaching in the Early Years of Elementary Education (CP-LIAI), understanding it not as a neutral document but as a political and discursive artifact. Based on a qualitative and interpretative approach within the field of Critical Applied Linguistics, the study examines how the skills proposed for the 4th and 5th grades articulate, or fail to articulate, linguistic, cognitive, sociocultural, and socioemotional dimensions of English language learning, in light of theories of critical literacy and multiliteracies. The analysis revealed that the CP-LIAI presents some progressive elements, such as the emphasis on orality and ludic engagement, but remains largely tied to prescriptive and technicist logic. Inclusive pedagogical intentions often coexist with formulations focused on memorization and the isolated reproduction of linguistic structures, contradicting the principles of a situated, ethical, and plural language education. The lack of child-centered listening in the construction of the curriculum further limits its transformative potential. The study also emphasizes the central role of the teacher: it is through critical reading, pedagogical mediation, and daily reinvention that the curriculum can be re-signified. However, this requires adequate working conditions and public policies that promote continuous and critical teacher education. The findings suggest the need to review and expand the CP-LIAI based on principles of social justice, inclusion, and recognition of children’s voices. The curriculum, as a space of dispute, must be reinterpreted as a site for listening, creation, and transformation. English language education in early schooling should recognize the child as an epistemic subject, a meaning-maker, and an active participant in real and meaningful discursive practices.

Towards a UX data-centric approach: providing tools to support software development
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-08-11) Macedo, Maylon Pires; Zaina, Luciana Aparecida Martinez; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0192085115595443; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1736-544X; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0905286355746275; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2686-1103; Freitas, Carla Maria Dal Sasso; Winckler, Marco Antonio; Conte, Tayana Uchoa; Lucrédio, Daniel; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4093653182381054; https://dblp.org/pid/43/410.html; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6682919653508224; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9090396559596221; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1986-8435; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0756-6934; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6436-3773; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1360-4036
The frequently collected data regarding user interaction with software (i.e., UX data) holds potential to enhance User Experience (UX), which encompasses users' emotional, practical, and perceived value interactions with products. However, a challenge exists between the collection of UX data and its effective analysis. Software practitioners frequently encounter difficulties in selecting relevant data and applying appropriate techniques to gain insights for software improvement. The field of Information Visualization (InfoVis) offers approaches to assist users in analyzing emerging information from data. While initial efforts explored how InfoVis principles could be applied, this research revealed a more fundamental problem. A Grey Literature Review on UX data not only identified diverse formats, definitions, and suggested visual representations but, exposed a pervasive lack of formal UX data definitions in practice. Two initial exploratory studies further reinforced these challenges, demonstrating that practitioners struggled to derive insights from unstructured UX data without a clear conceptual foundation. Building upon these findings, this research strategically pivoted its focus to address the core issue for effective UX data analysis. The central artifact developed is a UX data taxonomy, designed to organize and clarify UX data understanding by categorizing objectives, purposes, and data characteristics. This taxonomy itself represents a theoretical contribution, providing a structured model for the UX data domain. To ensure its practical utility and accessibility, this taxonomy was operationalized through two distinct tools: an interactive web-based system for exploration and a Generative AI (GenAI) RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) chat tool for natural language interaction. The utility and acceptance of this taxonomy and its related tools were then empirically validated with software professionals. Finally, the research also explored emerging opportunities for UX data analysis, particularly concerning the role of GenAI, assessing how these advancements intersect with the need for structured data understanding, thus providing theoretical insights into the evolving landscape of UX data analysis. This thesis provides both practical tools to empower software professionals in leveraging UX data for enhancing interactive system design, and lays a theoretical foundation for understanding and working with UX data.

Assessing the adoption of digital technologies by brazilian beef cattle farmers
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-08-11) David, Leticia Caroline da Silva; Vinholis, Marcela de Mello Brandão; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5730999136286305; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3033-0230; Carrer, Marcelo José; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6178330814144839; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8511-2543; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2788192007320191; https://orcid.org/0009-0007-9817-4429; Medeiros, Sérgio Raposo de; Spolador, Humberto Francisco Silva; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9724713946727219; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1699973266697060; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3331-4236; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1192-5311
Beef cattle production plays a pivotal role in global food systems and national economies. Digital technologies offer substantial opportunities to enhance operational management, automate processes, and optimize input use. This dissertation pursues two complementary objectives: (i) to identify the main factors associated with the adoption of digital technologies by feedlot beef cattle producers; and (ii) to examine how, and to what extent, digitalization, human capabilities, marketing capabilities, and supply chain integration are linked to the technical efficiency of Brazilian feedlots. A systematic literature review was conducted to map the global landscape of digital technology adoption in beef and dairy cattle production and to identify potential determinants. Empirically, Multiple Correspondence Analysis and Stochastic Frontier Models were applied to data collected from 238 Brazilian feedlot producers (359 observations) between 2020 and 2023. Results show that dairy producers exhibit higher adoption rates of data acquisition and communication technologies as well as automation, control, and robotics systems, whereas beef producers complement these with information system technologies. Technology adoption is associated with producer characteristics (age, education, access to consultancy) and production features (scale, labor, risk management practices, custom feeding services, and slaughterhouse bonuses). Adoption of digital management software, automated feed distribution sensors, and formal contracting is positively linked to higher technical efficiency. These findings provide empirical evidence to guide policy design and support the diffusion of digital technologies in livestock systems.

This original study aims to analyze data from lecture-style videos produced by the "O Extensionista" YouTube channel. The aim was to understand how digital platforms are transforming teaching methodologies and communication in rural areas. In the field of STS, this research demonstrates how technologies and social practices intertwine in rural extension. Dialogical communication in ATER Digital values local knowledge and concrete experiences, while engagement data highlights the importance of formats that respect cultural plurality and rural protagonism, promoting more inclusive and collective extension practices. The guiding question of the study was to understand how videos on the "O Extensionista" YouTube channel, as an ATER Digital initiative, promote engagement and contribute to the innovation and improvement of rural extension practices in Brazil. Furthermore, we sought to answer which attributes of the channel's videos influence public participation and engagement in digital rural extension initiatives. And how do the data on views, likes, and interactions on the channel's videos reflect the effectiveness of Digital ATER initiatives? The research is configured as an exploratory and descriptive investigation. In turn, the collected data were schematized and organized for quantitative analysis. The channel "O Extensionista" has over 96,000 subscribers, has published over 6,800 videos, and has received over 34 million views. The sample for analysis comprises 75 videos generated on the channel from weekly live streams discussing topics related to digital ATER, research, and rural extension worker training. The videos in the sample under investigation have 21,967 views, 1,880 likes, and 1,893 interactions in the chat as their main metrics. The data was organized and categorized by speaker profile, gender, time period, talk/live stream duration, and language. The analyses were constructed using descriptive statistical parameters such as arithmetic mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation. The most discussed topics were "Scenarios: Challenges and Opportunities in ATER (24%)" and "Technology and Innovation in Rural Extension (22.67%)". The topic with the highest average number of views was "Public Policies, Planning and Regulation of ATER (374)". The most common speaker profile is characterized by rural extensionists and males.

Modeling unobserved heterogeneity in survival analysis traditionally relies on frailty models. However, their conventional architecture, based on continuous distributions, is often restrictive in contexts exhibiting a structural cure fraction. To address this limitation, this thesis proposes an innovative discrete frailty model based on the Hurdle Zero-Modified Generalized Poisson (HZMGP) distribution. The proposed model is distinguished by a multifaceted architecture that provides three key advantages: its discrete nature offers a natural representation of cured individuals (zero frailty); its zero-modification structure flexibly accommodates diverse patterns of zeros (inflated, deflated, or truncated); and its inclusion of a dispersion parameter captures variability arising from latent risk factors. Inference for the model was developed and validated under both frequentist and Bayesian paradigms. Extensive simulation studies in both frameworks confirmed the estimators' asymptotic properties and, crucially, demonstrated the model's flexibility to accurately capture scenarios both with and without a cure fraction. The model's utility and versatility are ultimately demonstrated through its application to two contrasting oncology datasets, validating its relevance for clinical practice. Furthermore, the Bayesian framework yielded two of the thesis's most significant contributions: a probabilistic classification rule for individual prognostic stratification, and a novel conceptual interpretation of the dispersion parameter as a statistical proxy for unobserved biological heterogeneity. These advances represent a significant contribution to the analysis of complex survival data.

Semantic annotation of corpora plays a crucial role in the development of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools. In the case of user generated content (UGC) corpora composed of tweets whose language is predominantly informal semantic annotations typically focus on lexical aspects such as named entities, emotion, or polarity. In this study, we investigated the sentential semantic representation of Portuguese language financial market tweets via the Abstract Meaning Representation (AMR) framework, under the hypothesis that syntactic information can aid such representations. To this end, we annotated the DANTEStocks corpus, the first tweebank with grammatical annotation according to the Universal Dependencies (UD) formalism, covering a subset of 1,128 of the 4,048 tweets (i.e. 30% of the total). The AMR annotation followed a hybrid methodology, comprising a manual phase to establish guidelines and reference models, and a semiautomatic phase in which manually curated corrections were applied to graphs produced by a large language model. This process confirmed our hypothesis that UD syntactic dependencies facilitate the construction of AMR graphs, particularly in identifying subgraphs and relations among concepts. Additional contributions include: (i) the development and validation of AMR annotation guidelines for phenomena specific to Portuguese, UGC, and the financial domain; (ii) the proposal of labels for three types of financial domain entities (URLs, tickers, and users); and (iii) the introduction of a frameset for the VerboBrasil repository covering the financial verb repicar. The primary challenge encountered was interpreting tweets for AMR graph construction, given their fragmentation, truncation, contextual dependence, and specialized vocabulary necessitating continuous expert consultation and external financial-domain resources. Nevertheless, even with a relatively small validation set, an inter-annotator F-score of 89% indicates that the AMR-annotated portion of DANTEStocks is a reliable resource for pioneering research on AMR parsing of tweets in NLP and for guiding the annotation of the remaining corpus.

Desafios da reestruturação do ensino médio no Estado do Amazonas

This research investigates the challenges of restructuring secondary education in the state of Amazonas, with the general aim of analyzing the tensions present in the process of implementing the policy, based on the perceptions of educators and managers from different regions of the state. In addition to the difficulties inherent to regional specificities, such as geographical distance and limited access, the research highlights the internal, ethnic and racial diversity of the Amazonian territory as an aspect that is little considered in the formulation and implementation of educational policy. The research is driven by the following question: how can we guide the implementation of a public education policy that takes territorial diversity as a reference and starting point? The thesis was built along three main lines: (1) a bibliographical survey of the latest high school reforms in Brazil; (2) the characterization and analysis of the proposal to restructure high school in the state of Amazonas; and (3) the comparison between this proposal and the perceptions of teachers and managers in the various regions of the state. Through these paths, the research seeks to contribute to reflection on educational policies that dialogue with the socio-cultural contexts in which they are implemented, recognizing diversity as a structuring element of educational provision. The methodological choices are based on post-critical studies in education, as proposed by Meyer and Paraíso (2021). Based on a qualitative approach, it combines documentary analysis with a bibliographical review, followed by dense field research, carried out in at least one municipality in each channel of the main rivers in the Amazon, through re-signified narrative interviews (Andrade, 2012) with educators who work in secondary education in the state of Amazonas. The theoretical framework that underpins the research is based on approaches that dialog with post-critical theories in education, such as cultural, decolonial and ethnic-racial studies. The data analysis was organized into five main axes: general infrastructure; pedagogical and teaching structure; teacher training; student protagonism and indigenous education. The main findings indicate that the restructuring of secondary education in Amazonas has taken on worrying contours due to the profound territorial, social and cultural inequalities that mark the interior of the Amazon region, which were not considered at the time of implementation of this important public policy.
