    Polymeric solid waste management remains inefficient in mitigating the environmental consequences of improper disposal, motivating the development of biodegradable materials such as thermoplastic starch (TPS), derived from renewable sources. However, TPS is moisture-sensitive and shows tensile strength and elongation at break values about three times lower than those of low-density polyethylene (LDPE), requiring modifications to achieve comparable performance. In this work, TPS blends, with and without citric acid, were formulated with up to 20 wt% poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) and up to 30 wt% poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH) to produce flexible films. The strategy was based on the hypothesis that combining a polar polymer, a nonpolar polymer, and a modifying agent would direct the morphological development of the ternary system, enabling control over water interaction kinetics while preserving biodegradability. The study comprised: (i) TPS development from different vegetal sources and citric acid concentrations; (ii) definition of the mixing protocol for TPS/PVOH binary blends; and (iii) thermodynamic prediction of ternary blend morphology by correlating surface tensions with observed structures. A strong interaction between TPS and PVOH phases was observed, whereas PCL formed polydisperse domains and migrated toward the film surface. The resulting morphologies directly influenced film properties, leading to tensile strength and elongation at break values up to 15 times higher than neat TPS and wettability comparable to pure PCL with only 20 wt% PCL. Although PCL reduced soil deterioration, it did not inhibit biodegradation. The resulting TPS/PVOH/PCL blends may enable applications requiring a balance between stability in use and biodegradability, such as controlled-release systems and packaging films.

    Digital technologies can negatively affect the motor, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children, which may impact their engagement in meaningful occupations — a key focus of Occupational Therapy. Consequently, researchers from various fields, concerned about the developmental impacts of excessive screen time, have sought to understand how this practice occurs in different daily life contexts. This highlights the need to find a balance between technological exposure and the promotion of activities that foster healthy and holistic child development. Objective: To conduct an integrative literature review on the topic of screen use by preschool-aged children over the last five years and, based on it, to systematize recommendations for the protection of child development. Method: This study adopted an integrative literature review methodology, using the CAPES Journal Portal as the search source. Inclusion criteria comprised articles published in the last five years, in Portuguese and English, addressing preschool-aged children. The selected descriptors, combined with the logical operator "AND," were: "Screen Time"; "Smartphone"; and "Child Development." A total of 88 articles were selected, and after reading them, each was summarized. Finally, they were interpreted through a comparison between the publications to be grouped into thematic categories. Results: The analysis of 88 articles (63.64% in English, 36.36% in Portuguese) revealed that the main themes addressed in the literature regarding the impacts of screen time on child development are psychomotor and physical health (50% of articles), followed by risk factors and factors influencing screen use (32.95%), impact on language and cognition (30.68%), socio-emotional and mental health impacts (19.32%), and finally, recommendations and parental mediation strategies for screen use (17.05%). Based on these findings, an educational booklet was created to propose recommendations to protect child development. Final Considerations: Excessive and inappropriate exposure to electronic devices can lead to significant challenges in various areas of child development. Multiple risk factors and influencing factors that modulate these impacts were identified, ranging from the age of initial exposure and the type of content to parental involvement and the family context.

    Herbal extracts of Panax ginseng (P. ginseng) and Angelica keiskei (A. keiskei) demonstrate ergogenic potential, promoting fatigue reduction with a chronic effect on increasing mitochondrial content. Melatonin also stands out for its ability to improve mitochondrial function and energy metabolism acutely, both of which are beneficial in endurance exercise. This study analyzed the ergogenic effect of a standardized herbal extract of A. keiskei and P. ginseng, as well as melatonin, to determine whether the combination of these substances improves performance compared to their use alone. The experiments were divided into two phases. Experiment I investigated the effects of the herbal extract of A. keiskei and P. ginseng on tissue and serum markers, without the influence of exercise. Experiment II evaluated the ergogenicity of the herbal extract and melatonin, as well as their combination. Sixty 45-day-old Wistar rats were used: 1) two groups of non-exercised animals: control group (CT) and herbal group (FIT); and 2) four groups of exercised animals: exercised control (CTEx), exercised herbal (FEx), exercised melatonin (MEx), and exercised herbal extract + melatonin (FMEx). In experiment I, the administration of the herbal extract (FIT) or vehicle solution (CT) was performed via orogastric gavage for 21 days at 90 days of age, followed by euthanasia at 111 days of age. In experiment II, aquatic familiarization took place at 76 days of age, and the Critical Load Test in swimming exercise (CLT) at 86 days of age. At 90 days of age, the administration of herbal extract (FEx and FMEx) or vehicle solution (CTEx and MEx) began. At 111 days of age, melatonin (MEx and FMEx) or vehicle solution (CTEx and FEx) was administered intraperitoneally 30 minutes before the Time Limit Test (tlim) at 90% of the critical load intensity (iCC). This was followed by euthanasia for the collection of biological materials (blood, skeletal muscle tissue, and liver) for serum, intramuscular, and hepatic glycogen and triglyceride analyses. The level of statistical significance was set at 5%. In experiment I, the administration of the herbal medicine did not alter glucose and triglyceride levels, but increased glycogen in the white gastrocnemius and reduced it in the gluteus maximus and liver. Triglycerides decreased only in the red gastrocnemius. In the TCC, there was no difference between the groups in the parameters: load vs. time and iCC. In experiment II, melatonin, and herbal medicine alone increased swimming time in the tlim. Melatonin increased glucose and decreased glycogen in the white gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. While the herbal medicine decreased serum triglycerides in the liver, white gastrocnemius, and red gastrocnemius muscles, it also reduced glycogen content in the white gastrocnemius, red gastrocnemius, and soleus muscles. Administration of the combination resulted in an increase in tlim (FMEx > CTEx), increased glucose compared to the CTEx/FEx/MEx groups, and reduced glycogen content in the white and red gastrocnemius tissues (FMEx < CTEx). It is concluded that the administration of melatonin and herbal medicine caused ergogenicity with a cumulative effect when combined, with both compounds modulating the consumption of energy substrates differently.

    This research aims to analyze the impacts of antecedents and impacts of technostress on consequential factors at work for civil servants in the Brazilian public administration. The term technostress refers to the stress caused by the excessive use of information and communication technologies (ICT), such as computers, smartphones, and other electronic devices. The constant evolution of technology has changed the way organizations operate, bringing both benefits and challenges. Furthermore, the rapidly developing digital transformation in the public sector involves gains in efficiency and agility, as it will lead to improved relationships between public administrations and their stakeholders, resulting in greater citizen satisfaction and, most importantly, a change in bureaucratic and organizational culture. Given the theoretical gap resulting from the lack of studies on technostress in the Brazilian public sector, this study employed a quantitative research approach, using the quantitative survey method with PLS-SEM modeling. The investigation addresses antecedent factors that favor the emergence of technostress and consequential factors involving negative effects arising from technological interaction. A structured questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument, divided into 6 closed questions, on a 5-point Likert scale, sent to public servants from different spheres, electronically. The findings highlight an understanding of organizational factors as triggers of technostress, a predominance of studies on the implications for women, and the negative impacts of technostress on mental health. This study also highlights strategies that promote healthy technology use and ensure a more balanced and productive work environment in public administration. This research contributes to the theoretical discussion of technostress in the workplace, considering both the needs of individuals and organizations to build a balanced relationship. As practical implications for mitigating technostress in public administration, the study suggests guidelines for implementing support and well-being policies, improving the usability of technology in the workplace, and promoting a healthy work-life balance. Furthermore, the survey largely included responses from federal employees, which may limit the generalizability of the results to the entire national public administration, which is characterized by a wide variety of organizational structures. The study's originality also stands out, as it innovatively addresses the individual and organizational factors that can contribute to technostress, as well as their individual and organizational impacts and correlations.

    Insubordinate constructions (ICs), although frequent in both spoken and written language, are often marginalized in grammatical descriptions, frequently treated as atypical uses of fully subordinated clauses. According to Evans (2007), insubordination is a diachronic process in which a clause originally used in a subordinate structure begins to occur independently, without a main clause. Within the domain of ICs, insubordinate conditional constructions (ICCs) stand out. Among them are uses such as “if only I had money...” (se ao menos eu tivesse dinheiro…), which, although formally similar to canonical conditional clauses, convey different meanings, often marked by a semantics of desire or wish. Evans’s (2007) definition does not account for the wide range of functions and meanings these constructions may exhibit. Several studies have shown that ICCs differ from their subordinated counterparts by presenting distinct morphosyntactic patterns and semantic values, as observed by D’Hertefelt (2015) in her analysis of Germanic languages. The author proposes a typology with three subtypes of constructions like [IF ONLY], or [SE AO MENOS] in Portuguese: potential, irrealis, and counterfactual, defined based on the degree of (im)possibility of realizing the expressed desire, which is reflected in their linguistic form. The present study aims to investigate the construction [SE AO MENOS] in Brazilian Portuguese (BP), seeking to describe its formal patterns and meanings, particularly in relation to the expression of desires. The analysis is grounded in Cognitive Construction Grammar (Goldberg, 1995; 2006), which posits a systematic association between form and meaning. The corpus analyzed consists of 1,262 occurrences of the construction, collected from the social media platform Twitter (now X) during the second half of 2021. This platform was chosen for its ability to provide spontaneous and contemporary uses of the construction in an informal digital context. Based on the data, a typology of ICCs with [SE AO MENOS] in BP was proposed, identifying four recurring morphosyntactic patterns, the most frequent verbs in each, and their associated semantic traits, such as desire, criticism, and lamentation. The analysis revealed the presence of the irrealis and counterfactual subtypes in BP, but no instances of the potential subtype were found, according to the criteria defined by D’Hertefelt (2015). Additionally, the corpus includes occurrences conveying ironic or sarcastic meanings, which are not addressed in the original typology. These cases are not classified as a new subtype, but rather as usage instances marked by an additional pragmatic layer, triggered by discourse markers specific to Twitter language. A categorization of such markers is proposed. Finally, the study suggests an expansion of the constructional network of ICs in BP, based on the observed data, in dialogue with the proposal by Coradini (2022). This research aims to contribute to the empirical description of ICCs in Brazilian Portuguese and to reinforce the importance of associating form, meaning, and usage in the analysis of this type of construction.

    Menopause is characterized as a physiological process marked by the cessation of menstruation, typically occurring between the fourth and fifth decades of a woman’s life. The main feature of this period is the abrupt decline in 17β-estradiol (E2) levels, a hormone with cardioprotective effects. Ovarian hormones are associated with biochemical and functional changes, including impairment of the electron transport chain (CTE) and reduced ATP production, which contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction and increase the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases (DCVs). Resistance training has emerged as an effective non-pharmacological intervention for attenuating the deleterious effects of menopause, promoting improvements in mitochondrial function, hemodynamic parameters, and cardiovascular plasticity. Objective:This study investigated the impacts of ovariectomy, as an experimental model, on mitochondrial bioenergetics in left ventricular cardiomyocytes of Wistar rats, as well as the efficacy of Resistance Training (RT) as a therapeutic strategy to mitigate the effects caused by the reduction of ovarian hormones. Methodology: Twenty Wistar rats were used, divided into four experimental groups (five animals per group): INT-SED (intact sedentary), INT-RT (intact trained), OVX-SED (ovariectomized sedentary), and OVX-RT (ovariectomized trained). The analyses included: gene expression by RT-qPCR of mitochondrial complexes (C1, C2, C3, C4, and ATP synthase) and citrate synthase (CS); high-resolution mitochondrial respiration (Oroboros®); and maximum loading capacity. Results: Ovariectomy significantly impaired mitochondrial function in the left ventricular cardiomyocytes, as well as markedly reduced oxygen consumption in coupled respiratory states (S3 and S3Suc), in addition to decreasing the expression of CTE complexes. Conversely, resistance training (RT) was able to promote both functional and molecular improvements, with a significant increase in O₂ consumption and recovery of mitochondrial complex expression.
