This undergraduate thesis aimed — based on the analysis of a selected data corpus, collected through online questionnaires — to investigate how motivation influences the process of foreign language learning among pre-service students/teachers in a Language and Literature teacher education program. Therefore, authors such as Dörnyei (2000/2011), Nascente (2004), and Ushioda (1996) form part of the theoretical framework of this study. In this sense, the research sought to promote reflection on motivation within the context of foreign language teaching and learning, offering an attempt to evaluate the consequences of this process. The results showed that motivation stems from different sources, such as the learners and teachers themselves, who, in some way, influence the entire foreign language learning process by counterbalancing feelings of insecurity, demotivation, anxiety, and blockage, and by fostering feelings of engagement, curiosity, and reflection.

It is in the courage of the feared response that life is born. But the other. This leaves the doing undone in vital meaning. As a shelter, the following that bids us farewell and signs the outcome of the fate that teachings and, yes, their teachers were under, now sheltered, already dead. And in this, in the horror that we want to remove, is the research focused on suicidal teaching subjects who in Brazilian public and private universities built their work, until they no longer did so. This is an undertaking that, touching these subjects in their subjectivity, offers the opportunity to dialogue with the working conditions that confined them and that would have been structures for promoting self-extermination. It is qualitative research that, attentive to a growing quantitative universe, intended to think about teaching working conditions, in multiple possibilities. To this end, relying on referential bibliographical research, I bring the discussion from a critical suicidology, taking into account the view it offers regarding suicide, understood as a historical phenomenon and the result of a social totality that is based on violence, primary factor in its determination. It is a bet in which we highlight the dialectic of the relationship between individual health, society and the ethical-political dimension of the suffering of this human suffering teacher. Along this path, we turned to exploratory, field research, with semi-structured interviews with family members and/or co-workers of teachers who self-exterminated. Ultimately, this is research that brings yet another look, perhaps less popular and usual, at the meanings of being a teacher in the Brazilian educational context. It is death that, by providing shelter, offers us, the unsuspecting, other vital shelters, the kind that can be endured.

(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-12) Sabino, Pedro; Passetti, Renata Regina; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8273453109388188; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1547-2831; Arantes, Pablo; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9358415148282183; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9707-8493; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0267646733175498; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6295-0322
This study aimed to produce reference statistics for the fundamental frequency (f0) of speech in the male population of the city of São Paulo (SP), to be used as a resource in forensic phonetics practice. The samples analyzed in this research were taken from the SP2010 Project database, developed by the Sociolinguistics Research Group at the University of São Paulo (USP). The samples were stratified according to sociodemographic factors such as level of education, geographic zone, and age group. During the course of the study, audio excerpts of approximately 45 seconds were selected from each speech sample, from which f0 contours were extracted. Based on these contours, statistical descriptors of f0 were calculated and aggregated according to the speakers’ sociodemographic factors of education level, geographic zone, and age group. The resulting statistical summaries constitute the main outcome of the study and may be used in speaker comparison examinations that adopt a likelihood-ratio-based methodology for the expression of conclusions. In addition, the influence of the sociodemographic stratification factors defined by the SP2010 Project was examined for some of the statistical descriptors. The results indicated statistically significant effects for the variables age group and geographic zone, suggesting sociolinguistic variation among speakers from different geographic zones, as well as lower f0 values in the group of speakers aged over 60.

The present work demonstrates a critical and analytical evaluation of the shear verification in structural masonry through the comparison between ABNT NBR 16868-1:2020, Eurocode 6 EN 1996-1-1:2005 and two proposals for normative update. The research used a set of 144 real walls extracted from three buildings (Building A = 45; Building B = 56; Building C = 43) to compare the different formulations and observe how variables, such as grouting area, effective area, normal pre-compression stress and presence of vertical reinforcement, alter the shear strength prediction. The results showed that the formulation of ABNT NBR 16868 tends, in many cases, to overestimate the resistant capacity when considering the gross area without explicitly discounting the mortar, while the Eurocode generally indicates more conservative values, on the other hand the proposals for updating studied start to discriminate grouted and non-grouted sections, to incorporate the net mortar area and the contribution of vertical reinforcement, producing predictions more consistent with the expected mechanical behavior. In practical terms, the study shows that the sensitivity to the degree of grouting and pre-compression is expressive, which can explain the discrepancies between methods, thus, walls with a low degree of grouting show greater percentage differences between standards, and buildings with high or varied levels of pre-compression tend to amplify these differences. An illustrative example of the study reveals relevant numerical discrepancies, where the shear strength values according to ABNT NBR 16868, Eurocode and the proposals presented were 211.03 kN; 164.51 kN; 196.96 kN and 198.56 kN, respectively, showing how normative hypothesis choices directly impact design checks and decisions. inally, the work emphasizes that, although the proposals correct observed distortions, their normative adoption would require additional experimental validation and clear on-site inspection procedures to ensure practical applicability.

This study aims to address the Historical-Critical Pedagogy (PHC), developed by Dermeval Saviani, understanding it as a revolutionary alternative distinct from both traditional pedagogies and critical-reproducitivist theories. By analyzing its foundations, we align PHC with historical-dialectical materialism, highlighting its inherent affinity with Marxism. To achieve this objective, the methodology is grounded in qualitative research through a literature review, organized into two distinct stages. Initially, a survey of existing scholarship on the subject was conducted to identify theoretical gaps; subsequently, an analysis was performed regarding the possibilities for articulating the studied themes. Understanding contemporaneity as a period marked by a plurality of intersectional social problems caused by the crushing logic of the system, it becomes necessary to analyze this complexity. For this reason, it is proposed to explore whether gender issues have a space for discussion within PHC. To this end, feminist theories are brought into dialogue with Marxist theories, giving space, for instance, to Lise Vogel’s Social Reproduction Theory, which substantiates precisely the need for a convergence between these two paradigms. We understand that, given the complexity of today’s world, gender issues intersect with class oppression and are, in fact, responsible for its continuity. Based on the investigation conducted, a gap is identified in the articulation between PHC and gender issues, although possible points of convergence exist. Consequently, it is understood that gender must be an integral part of a counter-hegemonic pedagogical proposal, establishing itself not merely as curricular content, but as an analytical category of social problematization—an essential stage of the PHC method itself.

Roxarsone (ROX) is an organoarsenic compound used as a feed additive for poultry and swine to promote growth and control intestinal parasites. Less than 10% is retained by the animals; most of it is excreted and reaches the environment through the application of manure to agricultural areas. ROX can be converted into toxic inorganic arsenic species (As3+ and As5+), posing risks to soil, water, and human health. Its use has been banned in several countries, including Brazil, since 2002. Photolysis stands out as one of the main natural mechanisms for ROX degradation in aquatic environments. The present study aimed to compare the degradation of roxarsone by photolysis using two ultraviolet radiation sources: 254 nm and 185 + 254 nm. For this purpose, aqueous ROX solutions (0.01 g L-1) were irradiated in a photoreactor, and samples were analyzed every 30 minutes over a total period of 300 minutes. Analyses were performed by UV–Vis spectrophotometry, with data treatment through concentration–time curves, percentage degradation efficiency, and first-order kinetics. The results showed that ROX underwent degradation under both radiation sources. With 254 nm, a gradual decrease in concentration was observed, evidenced in the UV–Vis spectra and confirmed by first-order kinetics. In contrast, 185 + 254 nm showed significantly superior performance, with a degradation rate approximately four times higher than that obtained with the 254 nm alone. Direct comparison between the methods demonstrated that the presence of 185 nm radiation substantially enhances ROX degradation. The degradation efficiency at the end of the experiment was 15.7% for 185 + 254 nm and 4% for 254 nm, evidencing the increased efficiency of ROX degradation in aqueous solution.

Digital transformation is an essential process for the modernization of the public sector, promoting improvements in efficiency, transparency, and service delivery. However, the absence of standardized and empirically validated methods hinders the assessment of digital maturity in public organizations. This study has the general objective of adapting a digital maturity assessment model for federal higher education institutions, considering the guidelines of Brazilian Law No. 14,129/2021 on Digital Government. The research adopts a methodological approach structured in three stages: (a) a systematic literature review of digital maturity methods applicable to public administration; (b) the application of an assessment method adapted to the institutional context of FUFMT, through a questionnaire; and (c) the development of a guiding framework to support public higher education institutions in diagnosing and advancing digital maturity. The expected results include the identification of gaps in existing methods, the mapping of the most relevant dimensions, and the proposal of strategic recommendations to strengthen digital transformation in public educational institutions.

Urbanization significantly impacts biodiversity, influencing the distribution and behavior of species. In this context, psittacine birds are increasingly observed in urban environments, but their ecological interactions in these settings are still poorly understood. Therefore, we investigated the resource exploitation by psittacines in the urban matrix of Sorocaba, São Paulo, Brazil, across dry and wet seasons. We hypothesized that (1) seasonal variations would affect resource use and reproductive behaviors, (2) species abundance would not be random, and (3) landscape characteristics would affect species presence. Data were collected between 2023 and 2024 at 40 random points distributed across the urban grid (80 hours of sampling effort). We recorded 343 sightings and 969 individuals from five species, with the White-eyed Parakeet (Psittacara leucophthalmus) being the most abundant (n = 672), followed by the Plain Parakeet (Brotogeris tirica) (n = 179) and the Cobalt-rumped Parrotlet (Forpus xanthopterygius) (n = 99). Regarding data analysis, GLMM models revealed that the abundance of Psittacara leucophthalmus was positively associated with impervious surfaces (p < 0.05), while Forpus xanthopterygius occurred more frequently in areas with greater tree and understory vegetation cover (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the diet of psittacines included fruits from native and exotic species, with higher consumption in the dry season (n = 38). We recorded 20 plant species consumed by psittacines, with black mulberry (Morus nigra) (n = 9) being the most consumed species. Additionally, reproductive behaviors, such as nest searching on rooftops, were more frequent at the end of the dry season, possibly synchronized with fruit availability in the pre-wet season. Finally, the study highlights the differential use of urban resources by psittacines and emphasizes the importance of landscape in shaping urban biodiversity. We conclude that these findings contribute to the understanding of urban ecological dynamics and support conservation strategies for birds in anthropized environments.

Considering the intensification of the impacts caused by climate change and the consequent demand for sustainable energy solutions, it becomes imperative for public institutions, particularly universities, to adopt practices aimed at mitigating their environmental impacts. Public universities, due to their extensive infrastructure, high energy consumption, and academic and social influence, are strategic environments for the implementation of renewable energy generation systems. In this context, the present Undergraduate Thesis aims to preliminarily analyze, through a literature review, the implementation of a hybrid energy generation system on the São Carlos campus of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), integrating photovoltaic solar energy and biogas produced from the utilization of organic waste from the university restaurant (RU) and plant prunings. The methodology adopted consisted of the research and analysis of national and international scientific literature, covering studies on both technologies individually, as well as their applications in hybrid systems. The data obtained were compared with the current energy scenario of the campus, enabling the identification of critical variables and the proposal of strategies to optimize energy generation. The results highlight the potential of integrating these renewable sources as a viable and sustainable alternative for the university context, contributing to the reduction of dependence on non-renewable sources and promoting institutional energy efficiency.

This Final Course Assignment investigated the articulations between art, aesthetic experience, and teaching practice in Early Childhood Education, seeking to understand how elements often considered “useless” sensations, gestures, imagination, and sensitive materialities contribute to teacher formation and pedagogical practice. The research adopted a qualitative, autobiographical approach grounded in narrative curriculum, using personal accounts, pedagogical memories, and everyday records as devices for analysis and knowledge production. The theoretical framework dialogues with Walter Benjamin, especially his critique of the poverty of experience and of productivist rationality; with Manoel de Barros, whose poetics inspire the concept of creative uselessness; with Adorno and his analysis of culture as commodity; and with Jan Masschelein, whose poor pedagogy emphasizes attention, presence, and openness to the world. As an empirical component, the study presents the aesthetic portfolio of the Mundos Invisíveis project, developed with children, in which investigative and sensitive practices reveal the emergence of different areas of knowledge from children's curiosities. The results indicate that a teaching practice sustained by aesthetic experience expands ways of knowing, fosters meaningful relationships, and resists the utilitarian and fragmented logics that permeate contemporary schooling. It is concluded that practices grounded in sensibility constitute ethical and formative pathways for Early Childhood Education.

In this work, the semi-synthesis of (+)-Nootkatone was developed. (+)-Nootkatone is a high-value-added natural product from the terpene family and is used in the flavor, fragrance, and cosmetics industries. The semi-synthesis was carried out through a photooxygenation reaction of naturally sourced (+)-valencene, followed by a Schenck rearrangement, acetylation, and HOAc elimination to afford (+)-nootkatone; the semi-synthetic route was developed in both batch and continuous-flow regimes. In batch, under optimized conditions for all sequential steps, (+)-nootkatone was obtained in 45% overall isolated yield (4 steps, 82% per step). The transition to continuous flow was performed gradually, step by step, aiming at telescoping as much as possible. Under conditions in which photo-oxygenation was carried out in continuous flow, and the remaining steps in batch, (+)-nootkatone was obtained in 40% yield. Subsequently, a tubular steel reactor was attached for the transposition and telescoping of the rearrangement step, affording (+)-nootkatone in 35% yield. Finally, a new tubular stainless-steel reactor was attached to the setup for telescoping the acetylation and elimination steps, yielding (+)-nootkatone in 30% yield (fully telescoped setup). However, it was not possible to scale up this last process using the fully telescoped setup due to technical issues in the final setup stage. Therefore, scale-up was performed using the configuration in which the photooxygenation and Schenck rearrangement steps were operated under continuous flow, while the acetylation/elimination steps were conducted in batch. Under these conditions, 1.2 g of (+)-nootkatone was obtained in 27% overall isolated yield (2 steps in flow and 2 steps in batch, 72% per step).

This thesis investigates the relationships between memory, experience, and creation based on educational practices of the Olhares (Im)possíveis collective, formed by young people from Ouro Preto since 2017. It analyzes how the images produced and the collective practices reconfigure ways of seeing and narrating the city. The research understands filmmaking as a space of encounter, listening, and invention, where new forms of inhabiting the urban are created. Inspired by Walter Benjamin, Jorge Larrosa, Georges Didi-Huberman, Jacques Rancière, Cezar Migliorin, Paola Berenstein Jacques, and Susan Sontag, it articulates concepts of experience, image, and montage. The study focuses on the productions of the collective between 2017 and 2023 (films, photographs, audio recordings, conversations, and workshops) understood as a living archive that fabulates and reinscribes the city’s memories. The central question guiding this investigation is: how do the audiovisual devices created within Olhares (Im)possíveis enable young people to build new forms of relationship with the city and with themselves? The methodological path is cartographic and essayistic, inspired by research modes that are built through encounters and drift. The investigation is carried out with the group, not only about it, accompanying its creative processes, pauses, and re-beginnings. The procedures include analysis of films and photographs, listening to and transcribing recorded conversations, revisiting personal and collective archives, and writing as a practice of montage. The work assumes an experimental tone, becoming a gesture of montage that reveals the power of audiovisual creation to generate shared narratives, affections, and futures.

In the Critique of Practical Reason, Kant states that the concept of freedom, insofar as its reality is demonstrated by an apodictic law of practical reason, constitutes the cornerstone of the entire edifice of a system of pure reason, and even of speculative reason itself. This might seem to suggest that only the second Critique grants centrality to the concept of freedom. However, it must be noted that freedom is already central in the Critique of Pure Reason. According to several of Kant’s own indications, the problem of freedom not only inaugurates critical philosophy as an antinomic problem but also possesses decisive doctrinal significance, for the resolution of this problem concerns the very possibility of a critical understanding of morality. Nevertheless, the concept of freedom in the first Critique presents a substantial difficulty: what Kant affirms about freedom in the Canon of Pure Reason appears to contradict the position expressed in the Transcendental Dialectic. This issue unfolds into two main difficulties. First, (i) the Dialectic maintains that transcendental freedom is an essential part of practical freedom, whereas the Canon asserts that transcendental freedom is irrelevant to “the practical”; and second, (ii) the Canon seems to ignore the results of the Dialectic by suggesting that practical freedom can be known and proven by experience, which seems to reduce it to natural causality. The present work seeks to investigate these difficulties and aims to reconcile the two sections by taking as its guiding thread the practical interest of reason, which directs the treatment of freedom both in the third antinomic conflict and in the Canon. In this way, the study intends to demonstrate, on the one hand, that Kant (i) does not abandon transcendental freedom in the Canon, but merely sets aside the question of its reality as irrelevant to “the practical”; and, on the other hand, (ii) that practical freedom can indeed be known and demonstrated, provided that we take the concept of “experience” in a broad sense. The result of this analysis shows that the concept of practical freedom developed in the first Critique – understood as a theory of the arbitrium sensitivum liberum – cannot be interpreted in the terms of the Critique of Practical Reason. Consequently, the notion of duty employed therein must not be understood in a strictly moral sense, but rather as the capacity to act according to laws in general – whether pragmatic or moral. This result, however, does not undermine the significance of freedom in the Critique of Pure Reason; on the contrary, it reinforces it. Throughout the course of the investigation, it becomes evident that there is a strong practical interest of reason, one that mobilizes virtually the entire critical apparatus toward the establishment of a legitimate practical use for reason itself – an orientation that even justifies the theoretical efforts undertaken in the Transcendental Dialectic.

This work will address the relationship between children, from infancy, and nature in daycare centers, based on an autobiographical narrative that addresses the experiences lived by the student during internships and observations in public and private schools, which were carried out during her undergraduate studies. The general objective is to analyze how these experiences have shaped the student's practices to date. After analyzing real-life experiences, aligned with authors who write on the subject, it was possible to perceive that although contact with nature is a right of children, from infancy, and is present in official documents, in practice it is not fully respected and that early childhood education for babies needs to advance in the sense that babies are fully seen as subjects of rights and daycare centers as places for the production of knowledge, also through nature.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of gender and racial diversity on boards of directors on the financial performance and risk of Brazilian companies listed on B3 in 2023 and 2024, based on corporate disclosures reported in the Reference Form published annually by the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission, CVM. The analysis examined diversity in relation to financial performance, capital structure, and risk, as measured by the following indicators: ROA, ROE, Tobin’s Q, leverage, liquidity, and risk. The diversity index was assessed across three dimensions: gender diversity, racial diversity, and Critical Mass Theory applied to gender diversity. The methodological approach included descriptive statistical analysis, the Shapiro Wilk normality test, and the Mann Whitney mean comparison test, complemented by boxplots for graphical analysis. The results indicate that board diversity affects market performance as measured by Tobin’s Q, while no statistically significant effects were identified for the other indicators. A positive and significant relationship was observed when gender diversity was measured using a dummy variable based on Critical Mass Theory and its impact on the financial variables analyzed in this study. Critical Mass Theory examines gender influence when the board includes three or more women, and the findings contribute evidence that the effect of diversity on corporate financial outcomes tends to intensify as female representation on boards of directors increases.

The present study aimed to analyze and compile information on the anthropogenic impacts affecting the population of bull sharks in the Metropolitan Region of Recife (RMR-PE), seeking to understand how urbanization, habitat degradation, and fishing activities influence this species. A literature review was conducted to support this analysis. The RMR has undergone intense transformation driven by accelerated urbanization, industrialization, and unplanned land occupation, factors that have led to the loss and fragmentation of coastal and estuarine habitats essential for the bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas), an euryhaline apex predator that uses these environments as breeding, nursery, and foraging grounds. Anthropogenic pressures on the species are multiple and cumulative, including physical and hydrological alterations associated with urban and industrial expansion—such as mangrove suppression and the construction works at the Port of Suape—chronic pollution resulting from deficient sanitation and the discharge of domestic and industrial effluents, as well as emerging stressors like noise and light pollution that affect the species’ orientation and behavior. Fishing pressure, especially through accidental capture (bycatch) and the reduction of natural prey, combined with habitat degradation, forces C. leucas into urbanized coastal areas where organic waste disposal may attract individuals and increase negative interactions with humans. These impacts are further intensified by climate change, which alters temperature and salinity and imposes additional stressors that influence migratory patterns. Overall, the bull shark emerges as a sentinel species for the vulnerability of Pernambuco’s coastal ecosystems, reinforcing the urgent need for integrated conservation strategies that prioritize sanitation, effluent control, mangrove restoration, and selective fisheries management.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain syndrome of multifactorial origin, whose pathophysiology is not yet fully understood. Recently, alterations in intracranial compliance (ICC) have been investigated as possible mechanisms associated with the symptoms of this condition. This pilot study aimed to evaluate intracranial compliance as a potential diagnostic marker of fibromyalgia, as well as to analyze the effects of combined laser and ultrasound intervention on physiological variables and clinical outcomes. Sixteen individuals participated in the study, including ten diagnosed with fibromyalgia and six healthy controls. The variables P2/P1 ratio, Time to Peak (TTP), beats per minute (BPM), pain score (VAS), sleep quality assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and functional impact measured by the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) were evaluated before and after photobiomodulation combined with ultrasound, applied to the palms of the hands. The results demonstrated that individuals with fibromyalgia presented significantly altered patterns of intracranial compliance, with elevated P2/P1 and TTP values compared to controls. After the intervention, significant improvements in compliance were observed, with reductions in P2/P1, TTP, and BPM values, in addition to marked clinical improvements in pain scores, sleep quality, and functional impact. These findings suggest that intracranial compliance may be considered a potential diagnostic marker for fibromyalgia. Furthermore, the noninvasive laser and ultrasound intervention proved effective in modulating physiological parameters and improving symptoms, contributing to a novel diagnostic and therapeutic approach for the syndrome.

Environmental education, despite already being present in students' initial formation on within schools, has not demonstrated the necessary efficiency to raise student awareness regarding the environmental problems we currently face. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Environmental Education (EE) research by analyzing the strategies, challenges, and benefits of these technologies within the field through specialized journals. This work integrates the study of 12 articles, selected from the four main electronic scientific journals focused on environmental education, which address the use of ICTs in EE. The articles collected for this bibliographic research were published between 2015 and 2025. The analysis highlights the great potential of new technologies to raise awareness in a playful, dynamic, and more efficient manner, promoting student agency and interdisciplinarity. However, the study also warns of crucial challenges, such as the digital divide and the need for teacher training to ensure the full integration of these tools.

This work presents a formalism based on two-port network theory for modeling filters composed of ring-shaped microcavities applied to integrated photonic circuits. As an equivalent alternative to the conventional matrix-based approach, signal-flow graph theory is employed to provide a graphical representation of the different device sections and their interactions. A direct connection between the graph-based description of cascaded network associations and the definition of the Redheffer star product is established. Coupled-mode theory is introduced to characterize the network parameters of the devices. Based on the signal-flow graph representation of time-domain coupled-mode equations, a methodology for the synthesis of cascaded coupled-cavity filters is presented, with application to a second-order Butterworth filter. The results are validated through numerical simulations using the finite-difference time-domain method, demonstrating the consistency of the proposed procedure.
