In the 2010s there was a rise of far-right movements in both Brasil and United States, one of the most notorious being the Alt-Right. It was a new and esssentially digital movement that brought together an infinity of far-right ideologies around itself. Brazilian far-right moviments had their ressurgence in the same period and were similarly digital besides replicating many characteristic tactics of the Alt-Right. Therefore, our question “how did the Alt-Right influenced brazilian far-right movements?” becomes inevitable to the goals proposed in this work. Our goal is analyse and describe both movements in order to determine how this influence occurred, and to this end we will use the qualitative approach in its methods, to analyze these similarities between the movements and their political meanings.

A versão portuguesa do Catecismo de Montpellier: dinâmicas de ensino e poder (Século XVIII)

Situated within the field of the History of Education, this dissertation analyzes the historical trajectory and pedagogical role of the Catechism of Montpellier in the context of the eighteenth-century Portuguese Empire, understanding it as both an artifact of print culture and an educational device aimed at the moral, religious, and social formation of subjects. The investigation takes as its object the work printed by order of Bishop Carlos Joaquim Colbert, translated into the Portuguese language to teach Christian Doctrine to boys in the schools of the Kingdoms and Dominions of Portugal, tracing its trajectory from its elaboration in absolutist France under Louis XIV to its appropriation and normative regulation within the context of the Pombaline reforms. The study examines the historical, political, and discursive conditions that enabled its circulation, officialization, and use in schooling, situating the catechism within the disputes between ultramontanism, Gallicanism, and Jansenism. Within this framework, the manual is interpreted as a strategic instrument for the reorganization of relations between Church and State, aimed at strengthening royal authority and containing Roman influence. Methodologically, this is a qualitative historical-documentary study, grounded in the systematic analysis of the Portuguese pedagogical version of the catechism, in dialogue with normative sources and complementary texts from the period. The theoretical framework articulates contributions from Cultural History, the History of Education, and studies on print culture, drawing on authors such as Pierre Bourdieu, Jean-Claude Passeron, and Fernand Braudel. The results demonstrate that the Catechism of Montpellier went beyond the function of religious instruction, operating as a pedagogical technology and a mechanism of symbolic regulation of children’s conduct, contributing to the production of subjectivities aligned with the political and moral interests of the Portuguese State. By elucidating the articulations between religion, education, and power, the research broadens the understanding of the role of pedagogical printed materials in the formation of Luso-Brazilian society.

This study aims to establish a dialogue between Freirean pedagogy and the cultural-historical theory of human development to challenge hegemonic paradigms that govern school organization and teaching-learning processes, focusing on public basic education, the research counters neoliberal notions of innovation, lifelong learning, and meritocracy and seeking to dismantle the presumed neutrality of implicit in dehumanizing worldviews. This qualitative bibliographic research is grounded in the framework of historical-dialectical materialism, in which we utilize a literature review of contemporary scientific production alongside the works of Lev Semionovich Vygotsky and Paulo Freire to weave argumentative strands guided by core thematic dialogues. Through critical analysis, it is observed that while existing literature contributes to the intersection of these theories, the specificities of the current crisis marked by the rapid advance of neoliberal incursions that threaten the right to education reaffirm the necessity of reclaiming the thought of authors rooted in historical and emancipatory perspectives. The study highlights the potential for further exploring the dialogue between convergent core themes in Vygotsky’s and Freire’s conceptions to strengthen the articulation of societal projects, the collective nature of education, and the concept of permanent human formation toward freedom. Based on these interpretations, we propose a reflection on the possibilities of contesting the meanings that permeate public basic education, positioning it as a form of resistance and a site for the production of critical and emancipatory scientific knowledge.

Padrão de interação familiar de usuário de substâncias psicoativas: estudo de caso
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-02-24) Ruiz, Bianca Oliveira; Zerbetto, Sonia Regina; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1282433435871232; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1047317998226328; Silveira, Aline Oliveira; Gonçalves, Angelica Martins de Souza; Arruda, Bianca Cristina Ciccone Giacon; Wernet, Monika; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5217760680333753; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6648011576049252; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3217333020772503; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6056127658896265
The use of psychoactive substances generates negative impacts not only on the individual's life but also on families and the community. Family members are affected in different dimensions, such as psychological, emotional, financial, and social, and may experience domestic violence, family conflicts, and changes in interpersonal relationships. It is known that including the family in the care of a person with a mental disorder can reduce stressors, improve the individual's clinical condition, reduce relapses and hospitalizations, and increase adherence to treatment. The importance of intervention models widely used in family nursing practice is highlighted, including the Calgary Family Assessment and Intervention Model (CFAM/CFIM), the 15-minute interview; therapeutic conversations and circular questions; the Family Strengths-Oriented Therapeutic Conversation Intervention (FAM-SOTC); and Circular Pattern Diagrams (CPD). Thus, therapeutic conversations and circular questions in the systemic approach are strategic and relevant resources, as they provide family members with a space for communication and reflection on their interactions, as well as assisting nurses in assessing family interaction patterns. Furthermore, there is little evidence in the national and international literature on the use of these resources, especially in the context of mental health and, more specifically, alcohol and other drugs. This study aimed to analyze the interaction patterns among family members in the context of alcohol and other drugs, through therapeutic conversations and the use of circular questions. Specific objectives included: identifying circular communication patterns among family members; synthesizing the main interaction patterns from the circular pattern diagram of families experiencing the use of psychoactive substances; understanding thoughts (cognitive), feelings/affects, and behaviors from the perspective of family members in the process of circular communication; understanding the experiences of family members in the context of alcohol and other drugs incorporating circular questions; and analyzing the use of circular questions as a tool for understanding interaction patterns. The method consisted of qualitative research, a single case study, conducted with a family of a psychoactive substance user at a Psychosocial Care Center for Alcohol and Drugs (CAPS-AD) in a city in the interior of São Paulo state, with the presence of the mother-child subsystem (index case). Two interviews were conducted with the dyad, involving content on sociodemographic characterization, construction of a genogram and ecomap, interviews using therapeutic conversation, circular questions, and the elaboration of Circular Pattern Diagrams (CPD), theoretically grounded in the Calgary Family Assessment and Intervention Model. The data were analyzed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis (RTA). The results indicated a single-parent family configuration (single mother) and the presence of two children, one of whom was the index case. The ecomap showed a limited support network, with support consisting of a specialized community-based mental health service, religiosity (attachment to God), emotional support from the mother's brother, and a weak relationship with the other children. The Circular Pattern Diagrams addressed the presence of repetitive and maladaptive interaction patterns within the dyad, with negative circularity, permeated by restrictive beliefs, which generated emotional states of psychic suffering and dysfunctional behaviors, with episodes of physical violence stemming from psychotic episodes experienced by the older son, who cohabited the home. Three themes emerged: "belief involves illness," "the emergence of negative feelings," and "difficulties in intrafamilial communication." Regarding the theme of belief involving illness, it was understood that medication alleviated the crises, and the son's cognitive and behavioral slowness was not related to medication or the psychiatric diagnosis (schizophrenia). The children should take responsibility for their own choices, and the violence was related to the older son's hallucinations. The theme of the emergence of negative feelings addressed the mother's physical and emotional overload, feelings of disappointment, worry, and fear during the episodes of violence. The theme of intrafamilial communication difficulties revealed behaviors of apathy (son - index case) and aggressiveness (mother) in response to episodes of family violence; absence of effective communication and lack of dialogue; and proposals for behavioral changes to strengthen relational bonds. It is concluded that the use of therapeutic conversation and circular communication allowed for the identification and analysis of interactional patterns and the relational bonds, as well as the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors existing within the family dynamic. These strategies enabled the mother-child dyad to reflect on the functioning and dynamics of the family, promoting changes and strengthening coping strategies.

This study understands utterances as concrete discursive productions constituted within specific socio-historical conditions and in dialogue with social voices. From a dialogical perspective inspired by Bakhtin, meaning is constructed in the relationship between interlocutors and values, in which responsivity is constitutive of how subjects position themselves in relation to other discourses, negotiating and reorienting practices. The aim of this research is to analyze the meanings constructed in the utterances of teachers and teacher educators in Natural Sciences from the São Paulo state public school system regarding Teacher Professional Development (TPD), considering professional and formative experiences, institutional positions, and the concrete conditions of pedagogical work within the context of educational reforms and socio-historical processes that reshape school life. The corpus consists of utterances from three teachers and four teacher educators: three Area Pedagogical Coordinators (CGPAC), who act as school-based teacher educators, and one Curriculum Specialist Teacher (PEC) linked to a Regional Education Office (URE). Data were produced between October and December 2024 through semi-structured interviews, recorded, transcribed, and analyzed. The study is conducted from the standpoint of an implicated researcher, assuming the situated and dialogical nature of interpretation. Analysis was carried out through successive movements of reading and re-reading, identifying regularities, contradictions, and shifts in meaning, which supported the construction of analytical dimensions grounded in contrasts among utterances. The findings indicate that work intensification, platformization, and the emphasis on internal and external assessments, as well as pedagogical demands related to digital culture and inclusive education, generate frustrations and insecurities, but also mobilize ethical responsibility, critical reflection, and ongoing reorganization of practice. TPD is understood as a situated and continuous process of a social and discursive nature, constructed within everyday school conditions and real working contexts, in which teachers negotiate prescription and autonomy, make recurring didactic-pedagogical adjustments, and sustain forms of possible authorship. Ideological signs are identified in the utterances, linked to a transforming everyday life and re-signified by teachers, confirming the historical and responsive character of professional practice. The analysis also shows that inclusive education and digital culture emerge as key axes reconfiguring professional development, as they intensify demands, mobilize reflective choices, reshape planning and assessment, and expand teachers’ repertoires of action, particularly in contexts marked by classroom heterogeneity and inequalities in access. It is concluded that TPD cannot be reduced to formal training or prescription, but is constituted within the very dynamics of teaching work as a process of responsive meaning-making, in which meanings are produced, demands are negotiated, and collaborative practices are sustained, guided by an ethical commitment to teaching and learning processes.

This research proposes to address the relationships between the training experiences of early childhood education teachers in the municipality of Votorantim/SP and the implementation of the principles of the National Curricular Guidelines for Early Childhood Education (DCNEI), published by the Ministry of Education (Brazil, 2009). Anchored in the concept of experience and a qualitative approach inspired by narrative and (auto)biographical methods, the research mainly engages with the contributions of Walter Benjamin, Jorge Larrosa, and Christine Delory-Momberger, understanding teacher education as a historical, sensitive, and narrative process, influenced by personal, professional, and educational experiences. The methodological path combines bibliographic study, systematic survey of scientific production, application of a questionnaire, and conduction of multifaceted narrative interviews with early childhood education teachers, utilizing different expressive devices and the construction of listening. The teachers’ narratives highlight that the principles of the DCNEI permeate pedagogical practices, revealing both alignments and weaknesses, tensions, and contradictions present in everyday school life. They also show that continuing education is formed in the intertwining of life and profession, marked by experiences that affect, shift, and (trans)form the ways of understanding childhood, play, listening, interactions, and the teaching profession, contributing to the construction of meanings about an education that goes beyond the analysis of programs or educational practices and recognizes the singular, historical, and human movement of the constitution of the teacher and teaching in Early Childhood Education.

Considering that the History of Education constitutes a subfield within the field of Education, while also maintaining a close relationship with the field of History, this study aimed to investigate the boundaries between these two fields, going beyond a strictly historiographical analysis to focus on the social relations established through History of Education courses in undergraduate teacher education programs in the humanities at the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology. The theoretical approach adopted was Pierre Bourdieu’s sociology of science, which conceives science as a hierarchical and relatively autonomous social field, within which subfields and their agents compete for space, legitimacy, and representativeness. Through the analysis of History of Education courses in humanities teacher education programs at the Federal Institutes, this study sought to examine the academic backgrounds of the faculty responsible for these courses as well as the main theoretical references that structure the curricula of undergraduate programs in the humanities (Pedagogy, Languages, History, Geography, Philosophy, and Social Sciences). The research aimed to analyze the current relationship between the History of Education and History, taking into account the theoretical transformations that have occurred since the 1990s in the field of History of Education and its growing institutionalization within the Brazilian academic bureaucracy. The research results revealed many teachers with backgrounds in History, as well as a significant presence of Marxist authors as references in the curricula. This intense exchange of agents and knowledge between distinct areas suggests that the History of Education can constitute a privileged space for articulation and overcoming the fragmentation of scientific thought.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is defined as any violent act perpetrated by one of the partners within an intimate relationship. Due to difficulties in coping with emotionally distressing situations, as well as the presence of inadequate coping skills in relational contexts, emotion dysregulation is considered a risk factor for many couples who experience abuse and violence in their romantic relationships. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) has received increasing attention due to its demonstrated effectiveness in improving self-esteem, self-efficacy, and emotion regulation among victims of violence. The present research aimed to analyze the feasibility of an online intervention based on DBT Skills Training for women who are victims of IPV. To achieve this objective, two studies were conducted. The first consisted of a systematic review of the literature on DBT-based interventions for this population. The databases PubMed, PsycINFO, ERIC, Scopus, the Virtual Health Library (VHL), and the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) were searched using the descriptors “Dialectical Behavior Therapy,” “DBT,” “prevention strategies,” “violence against women,” “intimate partner violence,” and “IPV,” in both Portuguese and English, combined with the Boolean operators AND and OR. Article selection and categorization followed the recommendations of the PRISMA protocol. The selected studies were summarized and grouped according to analytical categories. The results indicated a limited number of DBT interventions targeting this population, with none identified in the Brazilian context. Study 2 aimed to apply a protocol identified in the first study, adapted to the Brazilian context, in a sample of women who were victims of IPV, and to evaluate its feasibility according to the following criteria: intervention acceptability, appropriateness, feasibility, post-implementation sustainability, and fidelity to the original protocol. Participants were recruited through social media and services aimed at women. Three women who had experienced IPV within the six months prior to the intervention were randomly selected. Measures (DASS-21, RSES, DERS-16, IES-R, Beck Hopelessness Scale, and NSGE) were administered before, during, and after the intervention. The skills training consisted of eight weekly synchronous sessions lasting approximately one hour, conducted via the Google Meet platform. Data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results indicated improvements in participants’ symptoms and suggest that the application of the protocol is feasible in the Brazilian context.

The development of novel synthetic routes for the production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) is pivotal not only for establishing more sustainable and competitive manufacturing processes but also for the training of new professionals seeking to enter this sector. Among modern synthetic technologies offering significant advantages for API manufacturing, continuous flow synthesis stands out. This approach contributes to enhancing synthetic systems by improving scalability and productivity, reducing solvent consumption, increasing automation levels, and ensuring greater process safety. In this work, the synthesis of the API buclizine is presented comprising four steps, all performed under continuous flow conditions. Initially, a continuous flow photocatalyzed reductive amination between piperazine and 4-tert-butylbenzaldehyde was carried out, scaled up to the gram scale with a productivity of 10.7 g/day. Subsequently, the electrochemical reduction of 4- chlorobenzophenone was performed, also on a gram scale, achieving a productivity of 6.6 g/day. The resulting product then reacted with hydrochloric acid to convert the alcohol into its corresponding chloride, reaching a productivity of 86 g/day due to the short residence time and high concentration of the reaction mixture. Finally, the chloride intermediate was reacted with the product from the photocatalytic step via a nucleophilic substitution reaction, yielding buclizine. This step produced 1.5 g of the API with a productivity of 9.4 g/day, representing a gram-scale proof-of-concept for the continuous synthesis of this pharmaceutical ingredient.

Pregnancy is a period marked by physical, hormonal, and emotional changes that may influence physical behaviors and mental health. Physical activity is recognized for its benefits to pregnant women, whereas excessive sedentary behavior may be associated with poorer health indicators. Objective: To examine the relationship between moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and sedentary behavior with quality of life and mental health in pregnant women. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study was approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of São Carlos. The study population consisted of pregnant women aged 18 years or older, in their second or third trimester, and receiving prenatal care. Participants were evaluated using accelerometry for objective measurement of physical behaviors; quality of life was assessed using the WHOQOL-Bref, and mental health using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Sample characteristics, physical activity data, sedentary behavior, and questionnaire scores were described descriptively. Associations between physical behaviors, quality of life, and mental health were analyzed in RStudio using multiple linear regression models. Results: A total of 50 pregnant women participated in the study, with a mean age of 30.5 ± 6.21 years. The average time spent in physical activity was 42.55 ± 18.44 minutes per day, and sedentary behavior totaled 615.39 ± 97.28 minutes per day. The mean WHOQOL-Bref score was 96.25 ± 10.27, and the EPDS score was 8 ± 4.13. No significant associations were found between physical activity or sedentary behavior and quality of life or mental health. Conclusion: Most participants met global physical activity recommendations but exhibited long periods of sedentary behavior. No relationships were found between physical activity and sedentary behavior with the analyzed outcomes; however, occupational status proved to be a relevant factor in the questionnaire scores.

The rise of a new democratic wave in several countries and the subsequent fall and reversal of some experiences have encouraged various research projects seeking to understand how these regimes are born and maintained. In the field of political culture, the focus has turned to the distribution of values and behaviors. Under this approach, Ronald Inglehart made importante contributions by revisiting the modernization theory and creating the concept of postmaterialism. In previous research, I explored this concept in Brazil, and the results pointed to a greater tendency for adherence among young people. The central objective of this study is to understand how the variable of age influences the formation of postmaterialist values, considering its different analytical dimensions. To this end, we use the World Values Survey database and the APC (Age, Period and Cohort effects) approach, which allows for a more robust understanding of the effects of age, period, and cohort on the values emphasized by different generations. The results suggest that the Brazilian case partially deviates from the classic model proposed by Inglehart. In a context of persistent inequality and unstable material security, other mechanisms (education and interest in politics) appear to play a central role in the formation of postmaterialist values, contributing to the debate on value change in the so considered peripheral democracies.

This research aims to conduct a comparative analysis between the novels Água funda (1946), by Ruth Guimarães (1920-2014), and Torto arado (2019), by Itamar Vieira Junior (1979-), especially regarding the presence and influence of two mystical-cultural figures in the novels. In Torto arado, the enchanted Santa Rita Pescadeira participates in and interferes with the main plot actions, in addition to being the narrator of the final part of the work. In Água funda, mysticism is present throughout the plot, but intensifies in the second part of the story, which is dedicated to narrating the madness of the character Joca, which, according to the narrator, was triggered by the apparitions of the Mãe de Ouro. This cultural and religious mysticism is the raw material of a large part of these narratives. Thus, for this comparative analysis, we adopt the parameters of comparative literature, especially the theoretical frameworks of Sandra Nitrini (2021) and Eduardo Coutinho and Tania Franco Carvalhal (1994). Regarding the cultural context of the corpus, we will use Alfredo Bosi (1992), José de Souza Martins (2010), and Stuart Hall (2016, 2024). Finally, to understand the supernatural figures in the plots, we rely on the studies of Câmara Cascudo (1971, 1983, 2012), Cardoso (2023) and Pereira e Silva (2023).

This doctoral thesis aims to examine the historical trajectory of the constitution of the category “problem child” and, more broadly, the process through which the Brazilian child was constructed as a scientific object through the articulation of psychoanalysis, anthropology, education, and mental hygiene in the context of the 1930s. The central hypothesis is that this category was directly associated with processes of racialization of childhood, in alignment with the projects of modernization, civilization, and whitening that prevailed during the period. Methodologically, the study adopts a historical-documentary and analytical approach, expanding the corpus traditionally mobilized in studies on Arthur Ramos by incorporating books, scientific articles, journalistic texts, and writings related to racial studies. The analysis demonstrates that, by shifting explanations of inferiority from the biological domain to cultural and psychological frameworks, Arthur Ramos promoted a theoretical advance in relation to biologically determinist racial conceptions, while simultaneously maintaining hierarchies grounded in culturalist and evolutionist assumptions. The findings indicate that the category “problem child” functioned as a scientific and institutional instrument of intervention in the lives of Black, mixed-race, and working-class children, who were conceived as obstacles to the ideal of a modern and civilized society. It is concluded that psychoanalysis, incorporated as an auxiliary field of knowledge within educational and mental health policies, contributed both to the affirmation of childhood as a scientific object and to the reproduction of structural processes of racial invisibility, reaffirming whiteness as the normative horizon of normality and social adjustment.

The phenomenon of gender and race-based political violence has been widely examined in academic research that seeks to reflect on the limits and challenges of a project of Afro Brazilian female parliament citizenship. Understood as a manifestation of a political institutional system structured under the aegis of sexism and misogynistic culture, this form of violence effectively excludes Afro American women from the right to participate in political life by failing to recognize the political sphere as a legitimate space for women’s participation. In this sense, the present study aims to reflect on the Relationship between the political participation of Afro Brazilian women in institutional politics and the intersectional political violence of gender and race. The theoretical framework underpinning this reflection draws on Afro Brazilian feminism epistemologies, particularly the concept of the raciality dispositif, coined by Sueli Carneiro. The problematization of this research is linked to the approval by the Brazilian National Congress of Constitutional Amendment nº 133/2024, which granted amnesty for fines imposed on political parties that failed to comply with gender and racial quota requirements in electoral processes. The documentary research was conducted through the analysis of official documents and data collected by the Observatory of Whiteness, affiliated with the Institute of Socioeconomic Studies, as well as data from the Brazilian Superior Electoral Court regarding candidacies and elected mandates in the 2024 electoral cycle in the state of São Paulo. Based on the analysis of these data, the study seeks to demonstrate that Constitutional Amendment nº 133/2024 operates as a raciality dispositif and can therefore be understood as one of the dimensions of gender and race-based political violence. This violence is perpetrated by the State itself, contributing to the reproduction of the logic that sustains male and white dominance in Brazilian political Spaces, while simultaneously restricting Afro american women’s access to decision-making positions of power. Key-words: Political Violence Based on Gender and Race; Structural Racism; Political Participation; Raciality Dispositif.

Reservoirs of hydroelectric power plants, built for the production of renewable energy, are part of the reality of many Brazilian municipalities. However, these enterprises promote profound changes in river morphology, converting lotic environments into lentic systems, in addition to causing the suppression of riparian vegetation. Such alterations to the original ecosystem typically affect aquatic bird communities through a strong replacement of specialists by generalists, without necessarily reducing total species richness in some ecosystem types, but with marked changes in community composition and increased functional dissimilarity. Because assessments of the impacts of hydroelectric construction on aquatic bird communities remain scarce, this study evaluated the water-dependent avifauna at the Anhanguera Small Hydropower Plant (northeastern São Paulo State, Brazil) over a 14year period, starting one year before reservoir filling and the implementation of restoration actions. Our objective was to quantify avifaunal responses to reservoir filling—associated with an increase in water surface area from approximately 0.3 to 2.05 km²—and to riparian forest restoration, in which dry biomass increased from 1100.15 kg/m² to 2,296.31 kg/100 m² in the remnant forest, and from 0.304 kg/100 m² to 1,773.117 kg/100 m² in the restored area. In both restored areas and forest remnants, we assessed: (i) species richness and composition; (ii) taxonomic β-diversity (Jaccard index); (iii) functional richness (FRic); (iv) functional redundancy (FRed); and (v) functional β-diversity and its decomposition into nestedness and turnover components. Over the study period, species richness increased linearly in both areas, with a higher rate of increase in the restored area than in the forest remnant. Taxonomic β-diversity increased in both areas, more intensely in the restored site and particularly during the first two years after reservoir filling. Cluster analyses of species composition revealed distinct temporal trajectories, with greater dissimilarity amplitude in the restoredarea (up to 0.68) compared to the forest remnant (up to 0.34). Functionally, FRic increased linearly in both areas, at a higher rate in the restored site, whereas FRed remained stable, showing only a transient peak immediately after reservoir filling. Functional β-diversity increased over time in both areas but was dominated by the nestedness component (with turnover ≈ 0), indicating the cumulative addition of functional groups rather than functional replacement. Our results revealed an initial colonization by aquatic predators, followed—after canopy densification and increased structural complexity of riparian vegetation—by an increase in forest dependent species that use perches and have lower body mass. We conclude that the conversion of aquatic environments from lotic to lentic systems, combined with riparian forest restoration, simultaneously promoted taxonomic diversity and expansion of the functional hyperspace of the avifauna, with important implications for aquatic ecosystem functioning. Thus, although hydroelectric development generally tends to cause negative impacts on aquatic bird communities, our results clearly demonstrate that, in already degraded ecosystems, reservoir implementation can contribute to the conservation of these species when combined with the preservation of river margins, remnant forest fragments, and active riparian forest restoration, constituting a more sustainable development strategy. From a management perspective, the preservation of riverbanks and the continuous development of riparian forests are key to sustaining functional expansion and may, in the medium to long term, lead to increased functional redundancy and ecosystem resilience.

This dissertation is based on an investigation which is aimed at studying how leadership practices take shape in a “Comprehensive Education Program” school in the state of São Paulo, considering students, teachers, and the administration team. The study is based on the understanding that school leadership goes beyond administrative functions, assuming a pedagogical, participatory, and communicative character that is essential for strengthening democratic administration and the social quality of education. This theme is relevant due to the tensions within this Program, which combines innovative practices, such as tutoring and student protagonism, with managerial elements, including monitoring, platformization, and accountability. The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, articulating qualitative and quantitative data through participant observation, questionnaires, and document analysis. Data triangulation makes it possible to understand formal and informal leadership practices, as well as the meanings that subjects attribute to their experiences in everyday school life. The theoretical framework is supported by national and international authors who discuss pedagogical, distributed, participatory, and transformational leadership, in addition to dialogue with Habermas's Critical Sociological Theory to problematize the relationship between the lifeworld and the systemic world in the school context. The findings indicate that, despite the Program’s internal contradictions, there is potential to strengthen collaborative practices, if leadership is understood as a collective process of participation, dialogue, and shared decision-making, especially in schools located in socially vulnerable territories.

The city of Orlândia, located in northeastern São Paulo, has experienced an expressive population growth since the 1970s, jumping from around 15 thousand to 40 thousand inhabitants in the first decades of the 21st century. Such growth is strongly bound to the migration of expropriated workers from the interior, initially coming from other regions of the state of São Paulo and later from other states, mainly the Brazilian northeast. From the 1980s onwards, during the expansion of sugarcane plantations and agribusiness, the arrival of workers from the northeast recruited by “gatos” (cats) to cut sugarcane intensified. Many of them, after years of temporary migration, decided to stay permanently in the city. This study investigates the concrete conditions of existence of the individuals coming from the northeast in the municipality of Orlândia, considering the intertwined dimensions of migration, labor and routine. Seeking to unveil the protagonism of those subjects in the urban, social, cultural and symbolic design of the city, the research is mainly supported by oral sources – 43 interviews carried out between 2017 and 2025 – with 22 women and 21 men of different ages, trajectories and ethnic-racial characteristics. By privileging memory as a source, forms of representations, resignification and the subjects’ belonging are analyzed alongside their social networks and family reproduction strategies. In a dialogue with a vast academic production about northeastern migration into the interior of São Paulo, the thesis proposes an advance in the discussion for treating the city as a space of life and conflict, complexifying the classical perspective that those spaces were only designed as “dormitory towns”. By shedding light on the existing bonds between the migratory experience and urban transformation, this study contributes to the repositioning of migrants as fundamental agents in the city’s social and spatial changes rather than marginal figures.

This dissertation examines how President Dilma Rousseff (Workers' Party – PT) was framed on the covers of Brazil's leading print magazines—Veja, Época, and IstoÉ—between 2010 and 2016 through the analytical lenses of political monstrosity and gender-based political violence. Drawing on framing theory and scholarship on monstrosity as a social and political phenomenon, the study investigates how visual and textual elements were mobilized to delegitimize the political authority of a woman occupying the highest office in the Executive Branch. Methodologically, the research employs framing analysis based on the content analysis of images, using human coding and the MAXQDA software, with interpretative packages identified on magazine covers as the unit of analysis. The findings indicate that Dilma Rousseff was recurrently framed through representations associated with abnormality, inadequacy, and the transgression of gender expectations, particularly during periods of political crisis. These frames function as symbolic mechanisms of correction, articulating political monstrosity and gender-based political violence. By highlighting these dynamics, the dissertation contributes to the field of Political Communication by incorporating a gender perspective into the critique of political journalism and advancing the understanding of the symbolic processes through which women in politics are delegitimized.

Dirichlet regression models are suitable for compositional data, in which the response variable represents proportions that sum to one. However, there are still no well-established methods for constructing valid prediction sets in this context, especially considering the geometry of the compositional space. In this work, we investigate conformal prediction-based strategies for constructing valid predictive regions in Dirichlet regression models. We evaluate three distinct approaches: a method based on quantile residuals, an approximate construction of highest density regions (HDR), and an adaptation of the approximate HDR using grid-based discretization over the simplex. The performance of the methods was analyzed through simulation studies under different scenarios, varying the model complexity, response dimensionality, and covariate structure. The results indicated that the HDR approximation approach exhibits good robustness in terms of coverage, while the grid discretization proved effective in reducing overcoverage and the area of the prediction region compared to the original method. The quantile method provided larger prediction regions compared to the grid method, while maintaining adequate coverage. The methodologies were also applied to two real datasets: one concerning sleep stages and another on biomass allocation in plants. In both cases, the proposed methods demonstrated practical feasibility and produced coherent interpretations within the compositional space. Finally, we discuss possible extensions of this work.
