Resumo
This paper presents an approach for modernizing industrial systems through the integration of legacy Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) with low-code-based digital platforms, aiming to adapt them to Industry 4.0 paradigms. Within the scope of analyzing the integration of devices from different generations, with an emphasis on real-time data extraction and capture, elements such as the reuse of legacy code are considered, highlighting technical and practical aspects essential to the effectiveness of the implemented solutions. Validation of the developed artifact includes controlled experiments and the creation of functional prototypes that demonstrate system stability, in addition to evaluation by experts in the area of Operational Technology. The study also identifies challenges related to industrial digital retrofit. The results indicate that platforms such as Node-RED and BIPES can facilitate the transition of systems from Industry 3.0 to Industry 4.0, provided that factors such as legacy code, communication protocols, and physical interfaces are considered.
