Understanding contemporary environmental dynamics requires a complex systems perspective, in which the environment is conceived as a network of multiple interconnected components. The Tupiniquim Indigenous Territory, located in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, Brazil, exemplifies this complexity due to its intense historical and spatial transformations. This study aims to examine the dynamics between society and nature within this territory through a spatiotemporal assessment of environmental quality and quality-of-life indicators. The methodological approach was based on the Pressure–State–Response (PSR) framework, focusing exclusively on state indicators. Geographic Matrix analysis and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were employed to conduct a comparative assessment of Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) census data from 2010 and 2022. The results revealed an uneven evolution in the provision of infrastructure and basic services across the territory. Water supply coverage through the public distribution network and solid waste collection services expanded substantially in several census sectors. However, public sewage network coverage remained limited or absent in most areas, reinforcing reliance on inadequate sanitation solutions. In the socioeducational dimension, the data indicated a percentage decline in literacy rates. This apparent decline primarily resulted from the methodological fragmentation of the territory in the 2022 Census, which increased the number of census sectors from seven to sixteen. This change improved the spatial resolution of the survey and exposed areas of long-standing vulnerability. In addition, intensive land-use classes, particularly mixed-use mosaics and pasturelands, expanded at the expense of native vegetation. The findings indicate that strengthening sustainability in the region requires the implementation of integrated territorial management strategies capable of promoting equitable access to basic services while addressing the urgent need for environmental conservation. Such measures are essential to safeguarding the autonomy, social cohesion, and cultural identity of Indigenous peoples.

BAJA SAE vehicles operate in adverse off-road environments, subject to vibrations, impacts, and large distances from reference stations, which makes real-time monitoring challenging with conventional wireless communication technologies that impose significant range and robustness limitations. In this context, this work presents the development and experimental validation of an embedded monitoring and telemetry system for BAJA SAE vehicles, based on LoRa communication and Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) task management. The proposed system consists of a custom printed circuit board designed for the acquisition of engine rotational speed, vehicle speed, continuously variable transmission (CVT) temperature, and triaxial acceleration data, using Hall-effect sensors (A3144), a Type-K thermocouple with MAX6675 interface, and an MPU6050 accelerometer. Data processing is performed by an ESP32 microcontroller running FreeRTOS, with task distribution across its dual-core architecture to ensure efficient real-time operation. Wireless data transmission is carried out through the E220-900T22D LoRa module operating at 915 MHz, while local data logging is implemented through an SD card interface. Experimental validation demonstrated temperature measurement error within the manufacturerspecified tolerance of approximately 2 °C, coherent sensor responses for rotational speed and vehicle speed with minor delay and damping effects, and proper accelerometer operation for gravitational acceleration detection. Field tests of the LoRa communication link confirmed compliance with the 500 m range requirement imposed by BAJA competition conditions. Sending 18 bytes, it achieved packet loss rates below 5% and -85 dBm received signal strength at this distance using omnidirectional 6 dBi antennas. The results validate the proposed architecture and demonstrate its technical feasibility for real-time telemetry applications in BAJA SAE competitions.

Restauração ecológica: monitoramento legal e estratégias de seleção de espécies frente a eventos climáticos extremos
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-06-12) Viveiros, Emerson; Silva, José Mauro Santana da; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1206055452889306; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7626133122217528; https://orcid.org/0009-0008-3174-8026; Piña-Rodrigues , Fátima Conceição Marquez; Pádua , Franciane Andrade de; Tronco, Kenia Michele de Quadros; Francisco, Bruno dos Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1475369713141675; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2945447364979913; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0670209258231584; http://lattes.cnpq.br/2209314957208420
This thesis investigates key challenges to the success of ecological restoration in the context of climate change, integrating two complementary dimensions: the assessment of monitoring in restored areas and the selection of species that are more resilient to extreme climatic events. In the first chapter, the study critically analyzed the capacity of the monitoring model established by SMA Resolution No. 32/2014 to adequately represent the ecological condition of restoration projects when results are aggregated at the project level. Based on data from 12 projects distributed across 453 polygons in the Promissão Reservoir region, along the Tietê River (São Paulo State, Brazil), the study demonstrated high spatial heterogeneity in the legal indicators and highlighted the risk of masking critical areas, which may compromise the evaluation of legal compliance. In the second chapter, the thesis investigated how functional traits of plant species, such as leaf thickness, the presence of trichomes, and crown shape, influence frost tolerance in restoration areas, providing support for the selection of species better adapted to adverse climatic conditions. Taken together, the results show that restoration effectiveness depends both on monitoring criteria that are more sensitive to ecological variability and on the incorporation of species-selection strategies capable of increasing the resilience of restored plantings to extreme events. The thesis therefore contributes to the technical and scientific advancement of ecological restoration, with practical implications for planning, monitoring, and the formulation of public policies in Brazil.

The integration of digital information and communication technologies (ICTs) into teaching and learning processes in Youth and Adult Education (EJA) is an ethical and urgent issue, given the structuring nature of ICTs in contemporary society, within a context of profound inequalities. The general objective of this research was to contribute to the understanding of possibilities for integrating ICTs into teaching and learning processes with young people and adults, starting from the teacher's perspective and aiming for a dialogical education. The specific objectives were: i) to investigate educational public policies adopted by municipalities in the state of São Paulo during the COVID-19 pandemic regarding the use of ICTs; ii) to identify the uses of ICTs in the daily lives of teachers in pedagogical practices before the pandemic, during the period of remote activities, and upon returning to in-person activities; iii) to recognize the dialogical use of ICTs in pedagogical practices in EJA. The theoretical framework was anchored in Paulo Freire's constructs that focus on dialogical and emancipatory education, as well as in authors who propose the integration of ICTs into basic education based on the contributions of dialectical materialism. To this end, a qualitative research study was conducted, of a bibliographic, documentary, and empirical nature, with fourteen teachers from twelve municipalities in the state of São Paulo. In the field research, the instruments used were an on-line questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. As a result, we identified that during the pandemic, the education departments of the municipalities analyzed did not provide adequate infrastructure for the development of teaching work in relation to the use of ICT during the period of emergency remote teaching (ERT); upon returning to in-person activities, there was an increase in the use of digital technologies, both in terms of frequency and types of devices; and finally, beyond the integration of ICT into teaching and learning processes, the participants in this study were dialogical in their pedagogical practices with the use of ICT, in search of the unprecedented viable.

This dissertation investigates the application of the Lean methodology in several Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), combining a systematic literature review with a proposal for practical implementation in the diploma issuance process at a public university. Given the growing interest in the application of Lean and Lean Six Sigma (LSS) in service environments, including the educational sector, this work aims to identify processes that benefit from its application, the tools used, the barriers faced, and strategies for overcoming them. The first stage consisted of a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), conducted in the Scopus and Web of Science databases, resulting in the analysis of 88 articles, of which 48 empirical studies were selected to answer the research questions. The analysis allowed for mapping the areas of application, the types of projects developed, the most frequently used tools, and the adjustments made for the context of HEIs. The second stage proposes the application of Lean in the undergraduate diploma issuance process, using a case study in a public HEI, seeking to evaluate gains in efficiency, response time, and waste reduction. This research contributes to the consolidation of knowledge about Lean in higher education, especially in the public sector, and provides support for managers interested in improving academic and administrative processes in HEIs.
