This study presents an analysis and description of insubordinate conditional-concessive constructions introduced by nem que in Brazilian Portuguese (BP). In accordance with Evans’s (2007) proposal, constructions are considered insubordinate when they are conventionally used as main clauses, even if at first glance they appear to be formally subordinate. For this research, grounded in the assumptions of Construction Grammar (Goldberg, 1995; 2006; Traugott and Trousdale, 2013), the general objective is to describe and analyze the formal and functional configurations of insubordinate conditional-concessive constructions in BP, with a focus on their degrees of independence and semantic specialization. As for the hypotheses, it is assumed that insubordinate constructions with nem que, within the domain of insubordinate conditional-concessive constructions, exhibit specific formal and functional patterns that distinguish them from spontaneous constructions and, despite vestiges of compositionality that set them apart from formulaic constructions, diverge from the prototypical semantic nuances of conditionality and concessiveness, acquiring more opaque textual-discursive meanings. To test these hypotheses, the corpus comprises instances of insubordinate conditional-concessive constructions drawn from the Corpus do Português/NOW (Davies and Ferreira, 2007). Methodologically, qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis are combined, with a particular focus on the qualitative treatment of the data for testing the hypotheses, with the aim of contrasting the findings with previous research, particularly on Spanish (Martínez Caro; Alba-Juez, 2021; Elvíra Garcia, 2016; Royo-Viñuales, Van Linden, 2022), French (Royo-Viñuales, Van Praet, Degand, 2022), and Portuguese (Hirata-Vale, 2015; Lira and Hirata-Vale, 2025). The results corroborate the hypotheses formulated and demonstrate that insubordinate constructions with nem que exclusively use inflected verb forms in the subjunctive mood, in the present, past, or future tenses, semantically associated with non-concrete, potential, or counterfactual situations and events that cognitively activate the broader conditional domain, despite the partial retention of the parameters of conditionality proposed by Dancygier (1998). Furthermore, a statistically significant association is observed among the pragmatic function, semantic frame, and verb tense of these constructions, which highlights their symbolic pairing in terms of Construction Grammar (Goldberg, 1995). Finally, a syntactic-semantic-pragmatic continuum is proposed, based on the continuum of insubordination proposed by Hirata-Vale (2015), in which the three identified microconstructions function pragmatically as addenda, refutations, or replies and are distributed gradually, ranging from more compositional uses dependent on the immediate discursive context to highly conventionalized uses endowed with procedural values (Traugott and Dasher, 2002), such as “nem que a vaca tussa!”. Finally, it becomes evident that the (inter)subjective nature of these constructions is related to their scalar strength and to the expression of negative emotions, such as irony, which emerge gradually and in proportion to the degree of conventionalization of each microconstruction.

Telehealth, or digital health practice, gained relevance during the COVID-19 pandemic, expanding the use of remote strategies for the care of vulnerable populations. In this context, this thesis verified the functioning and contextual factors associated with the activities and participation at home of infants and children born with biological risk in the first two years of life, through remote assessment and monitoring. Thus, five studies were conducted that produced evidence with remote methodologies developed during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Study I aimed to compare gross motor skills and the presence of opportunities in the home environment, as well as to verify the impact of these opportunities at home on the motor skills of infants with biological risk before and after 6 months of age. It was found that the group over 6 months had more toys compared to the younger group, and a greater variety of stimulation and having more gross motor toys were associated with better gross motor skills outcomes. Study II identified facilitators and barriers to home participation for infants with and without biological risk during the first year of life. Environmental factors, such as greater caregiver willingness to change, younger mothers with higher levels of education, and a facilitating home environment, contributed to greater participation in the group of infants with biological risk. In relation to the group without risk, factors such as younger mothers with higher levels of education and less willingness to change, a facilitating home environment, and higher family income promoted greater home participation. Based on these results, and with the aim of expanding knowledge about participation and its intervening factors in the home setting beyond the first year of life, Study III was conceived and developed. Its objective was to describe the e-Followkids protocol for the remote monitoring of functioning and contextual predictive factors in children at 12, 18, and 24 months who were born with biological risk. Study IV evaluated the feasibility of this protocol (e-FollowKids) in Brazil and its association with sociodemographic factors (family income, education, maternal age, and number of siblings). A recruitment rate of 56.86%, adherence of 79.31%, and sample loss of 20.68% were achieved. Mothers reported high satisfaction, good understanding, and acceptability of the protocol, with a low percentage of identified barriers (19.5%) to follow-up. There was no association between feasibility according to mothers' perception and sociodemographic factors. Finally, Study V compared the home participation of infants and children with and without biological risk at 12, 18, and 24 months, verifying the trajectory of participation and associations with environmental 12 factors and functional abilities in the group with biological risk. Children with risk showed higher frequency at 12 months, while those without risk showed greater involvement at 18 months; at 24 months there was no difference between the groups. In the at-risk group, engagement increased at 24 months, and in the non-at-risk group, frequency and engagement were higher at 18 and 24 months compared to 12 months. Greater mobility and environmental support were associated with greater engagement at 12 months. At 24 months, higher scores in functional skills such as daily living and social/cognitive activities, as well as environmental support, were associated with greater participation, while lower scores for the general home environment and less mobility were associated with a greater desire for change on the part of the caregiver. Home environmental factors at 12 months did not predict participation at 24 months. The results obtained in this thesis can begin to support evidence-based practice, through remote methodologies, in the area of child development. Furthermore, it fosters the relationship between health components and contextual factors, based on the principles of dynamic and multidirectional interactions in infants and children in the first 2 years of life. Thus, it favors the promotion of actions and/or programs in public policies in child health, for monitoring functioning in this crucial developmental phase, considering the caregiver as a modulating agent of the environment and remote methodologies as a means of intervention.

Agricultural technologies play an important role in improving farm performance. Precision agriculture technologies (PATs) aim to enhance input-use efficiency, whereas climate-smart agriculture (CSA) encompasses a set of technologies and management practices designed to increase resilience and reduce climate-related risks to agricultural productivity. Stochastic production frontier (SPF) models have been widely used to evaluate the relationship between technology adoption and farm performance using observed farm-level data rather than experimental or simulated settings. However, SPF literature still lacks both comprehensive synthesis and empirical evidence on how agricultural technologies - particularly emerging digital and CSA technologies - are associated with farm performance through distinct efficiency pathways. In addition, there remains a need for updated farm-level evidence, particularly in Brazil, one of the world's leading agricultural producers, where information on the adoption and impacts of these technologies remains limited. This thesis addresses these gaps by investigating how and to which extent agricultural technologies and management practices are associated with the technical efficiency (TE) and climate resilience of soybean production in São Paulo State, Brazil. Specifically, the thesis pursues three complementary aims: (i) to synthesize the existing evidence on the pathways through which agricultural interventions are associated with farm performance; (ii) to assess the association between PATs adoption and farm-level TE; and (iii) to evaluate whether CSA technologies and practices are associated with TE and resilience under adverse weather conditions. The empirical analyses are based on primary farm-level data collected from 152 soybean farms in São Paulo State, Brazil, during the 2023/2024 season. The first empirical analysis applies the SPF model with heteroscedasticity in inefficiency term to evaluate the association between adopting an integrated bundle of PATs (soil maps, variable-rate fertilizer application, yield monitors, and agricultural management software) and TE of soybean farms. In the second analysis, the latent class SPF model was employed to assess the yield sensitivity of soybean production systems to climate shocks under different levels of CSA adoption, given the climatic conditions of the 2023/2024 growing season, which was marked by above‑average temperatures and below‑average rainfall. The empirical results indicate that adopting PATs as an integrated bundle is associated with considerably higher TE than adopting the technologies in isolation, highlighting the importance of complementarities among digital technologies. Similarly, farms characterized by higher levels of CSA adoption exhibited greater TE and lower sensitivity to climatic shocks than low-intensity adopters. Together, the systematic literature review and the empirical analyses contribute to a better understanding of how agricultural technologies and management practices are associated with farm performance. The findings of the thesis provide novel and robust empirical evidence on the relationships among PATs, CSA technologies, technical efficiency, and climate resilience. Overall, the findings highlight the potential of those technologies to support more productive, resilient, and sustainable soybean production systems under increasing climate variability.

This work presents a systematic investigation into the performance and robustness of deep learning architectures applied to Facial Expression Recognition (FER) in real-world scenarios. The central motivation lies in the importance of emotion recognition as a fundamental component of human-computer interaction, with applications ranging from telehealth to social robotics, focusing on performance in real-world scenarios. The main objective is to analyze the impact of the domain shift phenomenon on the transition from controlled laboratory data to dynamic real-world environments, as well as to mitigate the effects of occlusions and class imbalance. To this end, a comparative evaluation of spatial feature extraction models was conducted, including the ResNet50V2, EfficientNetB0, and ConvNeXt Tiny networks, as well as a temporal hybrid model composed of a ConvNeXt architecture integrated with an LSTM recurrent network equipped with attention mechanisms. Spatial modeling experiments revealed the superiority of the ConvNeXt Tiny model pre-trained with large datasets, which achieved an overall accuracy of 87.16% on the RAF-DB dataset, highlighting the crucial role of the statistical normalization step and sequential pre-training. In contrast, cross-validation tests revealed a drastic 53% drop in model performance when exposed to domain transfer between RAF-DB and CK+ (with accuracy declining to 34.05%), highlighting the conceptual fragility in the face of variations in poses and occlusions. In temporal experiments with the CK+ dataset, the hybrid architecture demonstrated high performance under strict subject-independent validation, reaching 95.14% overall accuracy when tracking facial muscle dynamics to the peak of expression. Additionally, ablation studies focused on class imbalance indicated that simple weighting methods in the loss function (Class Weights) outperformed synthetic interpolation strategies in latent space (SMOTE) and pixel space (MixUp), preventing overfitting and preserving subtle facial distortions. It is concluded that, although modern deep architectures exhibit high hierarchical representation capabilities, practical generalization is still severely limited by domain shift, highlighting the future relevance of domain adaptation and explainability techniques.

This dissertation investigates the theoretical intersections between Lacanian psychoanalysis and political thought through the structural homology established by Jacques Lacan between the function of object a as surplus-enjoyment (plus-de-jouir) and the Marxian category of surplus-value (Mehrwert). Setting out from the theoretical and socio-political effervescence of the 1960s, indelibly marked by the events of May 68 in France, this study examines how Lacan’s teaching was impelled to clarify its conceptual coordinates in face of Marxism, a period in which Marx assumes a pressing presence in Lacanian theory. The central objective of this research is to apprehend the reasons motivating this singular "return to Marx" and to analyze the internal articulation engendered with the critique of Marxian political economy during the gestation period of the so-called theory of discourses. Investigating the position of the Lacanian object as structurally homologous to surplus-value, the study adopts the Monzanian gesture of philosophical reading as a methodological framework linked to the tradition of the Philosophy of Psychoanalysis, aiming to reconstruct Lacan’s conceptual movement while grasping the theoretical and political impasses at stake. To this end, the dissertation is organized into three chapters: first, it reconstructs the historical and institutional frictions, convergences, and shifts between Marxisms and psychoanalyses, locating Lacan’s singular and ambiguous stance toward the student movement and the revolutionary tradition; second, it undertakes a mapping of the category of the object within the Lacanian framework, tracing its evolution from an imaginary object and support of fantasy to its emergence as cause of desire, irreducible remainder of the signifier structure, and drive object; finally, it reconstructs the homology with surplus-value based on Seminar XVI, explicating its implications for the psychoanalytic reading of social bonds and the political dimension. It demonstrates how the function of surplus-enjoyment, by condensing the paradigm of a constitutive loss that engenders an excess of enjoyment, reorganizes the drive economy, repositions the status of truth within the failure of knowledge, and provides conceptual grounding for the Lacanian critique of science, capitalism, and the political sphere. By addressing this problem within Lacan's own teaching, this research aims to contribute to the debate surrounding the social function of psychoanalysis in order to reposition the possible forms of relation between psychoanalysis and the political.

Introduction: Training volume is a major variable manipulated in resistance training (RT) prescription, but it remains unclear whether substantial increases in weekly volume promote greater strength gains in previously resistance-trained individuals. Moreover, volume dose–response studies have predominantly assessed voluntary strength, and whether different magnitudes of volume progression elicit distinct adaptations directly at the muscle-fiber level remains unknown. Objective: To compare the effects of individualized 20% (VOL20) and 120% (VOL120) increases in habitual weekly RT volume on maximal dynamic strength, the contractile properties of isolated muscle fibers, and muscle fiber cross-sectional area (fCSA) in previously resistance-trained individuals. Methods: Eighteen resistance-trained participants (11 men and 7 women), aged 18 - 35 years, were included in a randomized, unilateral, within-subject design. Each lower limb was allocated to VOL20 or VOL120. The intervention lasted eight weeks and consisted of two weekly sessions of unilateral 45° leg press and knee extension performed to concentric failure within a 9-12 repetition-maximum range. Maximal dynamic strength was assessed using the one-repetition maximum (1RM) test. Vastus lateralis biopsies were obtained before and after the intervention to determine maximal isometric force of isolated Ca²⁺-activated muscle fibers (P₀), force normalized to fiber diameter (P₀/D), specific force (P₀/fCSA), and histologically determined fCSA. Primary outcomes were analyzed using linear mixed models, with the protocol × time interaction as the effect of interest. Comparisons between percentage changes in 1RM and muscle-fiber contractile properties, as well as analyses stratified by fiber type, were performed exploratorily. Results: Weekly set volume during the intervention was 18.23 ± 3.18 sets in VOL20 and 33.47 ± 5.82 sets in VOL120. 1RM increased in both the 45° leg press and knee extension (both p < 0.001), with no protocol × time interactions (p = 0.888 and p = 0.330, respectively). P₀ and P₀/D also increased over time (both p < 0.001), without protocol × time interactions (p = 0.448 and p = 0.096, respectively). P₀/fCSA increased over time (p = 0.010), also without a protocol × time interaction (p = 0.114). No significant changes in histological fCSA were observed. In the exploratory analyses, voluntary strength gains did not consistently exceed the adaptations observed directly in isolated muscle fibers. Conclusion: Eight weeks of RT concurrently increased maximal dynamic strength and the intrinsic force-generating capacity of isolated muscle fibers in previously resistance-trained individuals. Despite the large contrast between the individualized volume progressions, the 120% increase did not provide evidence of superior adaptations compared with the 20% increase. These findings further demonstrate that functional adaptations at the muscle-fiber level can occur in resistance-trained individuals without detectable increases in histological fCSA.

Antimicrobial resistance has been recognized as one of the greatest contemporary challenges to global public health, constituting a complex problem involving clinical, epidemiological, social, and educational factors. The inappropriate and indiscriminate use of antimicrobials significantly contributes to the emergence and dissemination of resistant microorganisms, compromising the effectiveness of treatments and increasing infection-related morbidity and mortality. As part of multiprofessional healthcare, nursing technicians play a central role in medication administration and, consequently, in the implementation of infection prevention and control practices. Therefore, this study aimed to understand the perceptions of Nursing Technician students regarding antimicrobial management and antimicrobial resistance in the hospital setting, relating this knowledge to their educational and training experiences. This qualitative study collected data through focus groups, which enabled the exploration of participants’ perceptions, knowledge, and experiences regarding the investigated topic. The sessions were conducted in three virtual meetings through the Microsoft Teams® platform, with groups of four to five students, and were recorded. Subsequently, the sessions were transcribed in full and subjected to thematic content analysis. This process allowed the identification of the following analytical categories: Nursing Technician students’ understanding of bacterial resistance; Practices related to antibiotic use; Barriers to the rational use of antimicrobials; and Strategies for preventing microbial resistance. The results showed that the students recognized the importance of appropriate antimicrobial use and associated the incorrect use of these medications with increased bacterial resistance and difficulties in treating infections. The participants demonstrated an understanding of healthcare professionals’ responsibility for the safe administration of medications and the prevention of adverse events related to antimicrobial therapy. Conceptual gaps were identified regarding the biological mechanisms involved in the development of antimicrobial resistance and institutional strategies aimed at preventing and controlling this problem, such as antimicrobial stewardship programs and patient safety protocols. Educational and training experiences, particularly those related to practical activities and supervised clinical placements, proved relevant to the development of students’ knowledge on the topic, contributing to a broader understanding of the complexity of antimicrobial use and the impacts of antimicrobial resistance on healthcare delivery. It is concluded that the students recognize the importance of the topic and preventive practices, although their knowledge is predominantly practical and operational. The findings highlight the need for pedagogical strategies that more effectively integrate theory and practice, moving beyond purely operational aspects. Qualifying this technical training is strategic to mitigating antimicrobial resistance and improving the quality of healthcare

Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni-(Co) shape memory stainless steel (SMSS) are being studied for structural applications due to their combination of lower cost and properties such as strain recovery, prestressing force generation, and energy dissipation during seismic events. However, their performance in cementitious environments subject to carbonation and chloride contamination - particularly in coastal regions - remains insufficiently understood. This study characterized the microstructure and electrochemical behavior of three SMSSs (A, B, and C) in synthetic concrete pore solutions - pH 13.8 (freshly cured) and pH 8.5 (carbonated), both without and with 0.1 M NaCl - comparing them to SAE 1020 and SAE 304 steels. Techniques employed included OM, SEM/EDS, XRD, potentiodynamic and cyclic polarization, EIS, and XPS. At pH 13.8, all materials exhibited stable passivity with low current densities. Upon reducing the pH to 8.5, the three SMSSs and SAE 304 remained passive, whereas SAE 1020 exhibited active behavior and an icorr approximately 30 times higher; furthermore, it generated a potential difference of ≈ 400 mV , indicating a severe risk of galvanic corrosion. With the addition of chlorides at pH 8.5, SMSSs A and B underwent localized corrosion, with breakdown potentials (Eb) of +677 and +930 mVAg/AgCl, respectively; conversely, SMSS C and AISI 304 remained in a passive state (Eb +1050 mVAg/AgCl). SAE 1020 was the most affected, with its Eb dropping from +1080 to +140 mVAg/AgCl. XPS analysis revealed passive films enriched in Si and Cr and depleted in Fe and Mn on the SMSSs, ensuring protection even in a carbonated environment. It is concluded that SMSS C is the most promising for use in reinforced concrete in saline environments; however, avoiding galvanic contact with carbon steel in carbonated concrete is recommended to ensure durability.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative condition and the leading cause of dementia in the elderly population, highlighting the need for computational methods sensitive to subtle brain alterations. This thesis proposes a framework for structural magnetic resonance imaging analysis based on morphological attributes derived from deformation fields estimated by deformable registration of individual images to population templates built using groupwise registration. The approach combines a multi-region analysis of brain structures, 3D Shape Context descriptors, Jacobian determinants, the strain tensor, and machine learning. The first contribution estimates brain age in cognitively normal individuals, achieving a mean absolute error of 1.66 years for males and 1.81 years for females, with coefficients of determination of 0.84 and 0.80, respectively. The second contribution is a multi-region classification framework for distinguishing cognitively normal individuals, subjects with mild cognitive impairment, and patients with Alzheimer’s disease, achieving an AUC of 0.93 and an accuracy of 88.68% for males, and an AUC of 0.94 with an accuracy of 87.89% for females in the classification between cognitively normal individuals and Alzheimer’s patients. The third contribution proposes a graph-based approach for identifying progressive mild cognitive impairment, integrating displacement attributes, Jacobian volumetric variation, and local strain into a fixed population-level topology processed by a Graph Attention Network. This approach achieved an AUC of 0.92, an accuracy of 81.21%, and an F1-score of 0.79 for males, and an AUC of 0.88, an accuracy of 78.41%, and an F1-score of 0.73 for females. Taken together, the results indicate that morphological attributes derived from deformation fields can characterize brain aging, discriminate diagnostic groups, and contribute to differentiating individuals with stable and progressive mild cognitive impairment.

Lithium-ion batteries dominate electronics and vehicles due to their high density and durability, but concerns about safety, lithium scarcity, and high cost are driving the search for alternatives. Solid-state sodium-ion batteries are emerging as promising options; this combination is seen as a sustainable and viable solution to replace lithium without loss of storage capacity. One of the main challenges to enabling this technology is obtaining materials with high ionic conductivity, via synthesis methods that are fast, reliable, and energy-efficient. This work seeks to contribute in this context by exploring the improvement of glass-ceramics of the NaSICON family (“Na Super Ionic Conductor”) of the composition group Na(₁₊ₓ)Ge₂(SiO₄)ₓ(PO₄)₃₋ₓ, known for their crystalline structure favorable to ion transport, which generates excellent ionic conductivity at high temperatures (300 °C). For this, an innovative electric-field-assisted crystallization technique with controlled power increase will be employed. This technique is called power ramp flash crystallization (PRFC). The hypothesis is that it is possible to crystallize NaSICON glass-ceramics in a few minutes using this technique, maintaining or even improving their conductive properties, resulting in materials with ionic conductivity equal to or higher than those obtained by conventional crystallization methods. The samples were crystallized with a power ramp of 0.5 mW mm⁻³ s⁻¹ and variation in final power (22 to 39 mW mm⁻³) and hold time (60 and 300 s). The results demonstrated high conductivities on the order of 10⁻⁵ S cm⁻¹ at 250 °C, similar to values obtained by conventional crystallization. Impedance spectroscopy revealed notable differences in the resistive behavior of the grain and grain boundary between samples obtained via PRFC and conventional crystallization. The results indicate that the PRFC technique is very promising for producing the crystalline phase in reduced processing times.

This study aims to analyze the functioning of sentences combining distributive and collective predicates with the items ‘junto(s)’ (together) and ‘sozinho(s)’ (alone) in Brazilian Portuguese (BP). Initially, one might think that such combinations would generate infelicitous sentences in the language, since the expressions ‘junto(s)’ and ‘sozinho(s)’ could be understood as anti-distributivity and anti-collectivity modifiers, respectively, which would result in redundant or contradictory readings when combined with distributive and collective predicates. Seeking to understand whether this initial intuition would be confirmed, we first proposed an investigation into the semantic characteristics of distributive and collective predicates – as well as those that are ambiguous between these two readings – in BP, based on studies by Araújo and Lardapide (2025), Champollion (2019; 2020), Müller, Negrão, and Gomes (2007), Ritchie (2017), Winter (2001), among others. Furthermore, we present initial inventories with examples of the different types of predicates. We also analyze the semantics of the items ‘junto(s)’ and ‘sozinho(s)’ in BP, drawing from the works of Araújo, Palmieri, and Basso (2026), Basso and Araújo (2024), and Basso and Rodrigues (2024). Having described the behavior of the predicates and modifiers in question, we proceeded to analyze the sentences generated by combining collective and distributive predicates with the items ‘junto(s)’ and ‘sozinho(s)’. To this end, we selected four distributive, four collective, and four ambiguous predicates to be combined with the modifiers under study in affirmative and negative control sentences following this structure: (it is not true that +) argument + predicate + modifier. The tests performed not only showed that the generated sentences were semantically well-formed, but also that, contrary to what had been initially argued, the role of the items ‘junto(s)’ and ‘sozinho(s)’ was not that of anti-distributivity and anti-collectivity modifiers. In the case of ‘junto(s)’, the combination with the predicates showed that the expression functions as a collectivizing item, as previously suggested by Araújo, Palmieri, and Basso (2026), which can take scope over individuals when combined with collective and ambiguous predicates, or over events when combined with distributive predicates. On the other hand, the expression ‘sozinho(s)’ functions, as pointed out by Basso and Rodrigues (2024), as an anti-comitative item that excludes the company of other individuals when combined with different types of predicates. In this sense, the combinatory exercise carried out in this study allowed us not only to better understand the behavior of distributive and collective predicates but, above all, to advance the descriptive analysis of the items ‘junto(s)’ and ‘sozinho(s)’, which have only recently become objects of study in Brazilian Portuguese.

This research investigates how neo-institutional theory, particularly its sociological and discursive strands, contributes to understanding Industry 4.0 (I4.0) and the emergence of Industry 5.0 (I5.0). Institutional theory emphasizes that organizational transformations are not driven solely by technical efficiency, but also by norms, values, discourses, and the pursuit of legitimacy. Although I4.0 is frequently approached from technocentric and rationalist perspectives, its adoption and diffusion also depend on the meanings attributed to technologies and on the actions of institutional actors. I5.0 broadens this debate by placing greater emphasis on human-centricity, sustainability, and resilience. Guided by the research question, “How does the institutionalization of Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 influence and is influenced by universities and professions?”, the thesis is structured around three interrelated articles. The first presents a scoping review of 23 articles on the interface between universities and I4.0/I5.0. The findings show that institutional theory is often used in a limited manner and that universities tend to be portrayed as organizations responding to transformations associated with I4.0, while their active role in constructing and legitimizing these transformations receives less attention. The second article analyzes 68 doctoral theses on I4.0 produced at universities in Brazil and Spain. Combining analyses conducted using the IRAMUTEQ software with a framing analysis based on the orders of worth framework, it identifies three areas: managerial aspects, implementation issues, and technical applications. Justifications associated with efficiency, performance, and technological application predominate, whereas civic and green frames are less frequent, especially in Brazil, indicating the comparatively limited presence of social and environmental dimensions in the academic discourse on I4.0. The third article examines the implementation and institutionalization of the “New Industrial Revolution” in the Brazilian industrial contexts analyzed and its perceived implications for engineering work, especially Industrial Engineering. Interviews with industry professionals and representatives of the Confea/Crea System and the Brazilian Association of Industrial Engineering (ABEPRO), analyzed through reflexive thematic analysis, show that I4.0 constitutes a widely recognized discourse, but its implementation remains selective and uneven, driven primarily by efficiency and competitiveness. I5.0 has not yet emerged as an explicitly institutionalized agenda, although elements of human-centricity and sustainability are present in the reported practices and concerns. Professional boundaries remain relatively stable, while demand is growing for digital competencies, systems thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Professional associations and professional regulatory bodies exert mainly indirect influence in this process. Taken together, the three articles show that I4.0 and I5.0 can be understood not only as sets of technologies or models of productive transformation, but also as institutional processes in which technologies, discourses, values, and actors are articulated. The thesis brings studies on the “New Industrial Revolution” closer to institutional theory, showing how meaning construction, legitimation, translation, and selective implementation help explain the diffusion of these concepts and the differences between their discursive formulations and their materialization in organizations and professions.

Electromigration became established in the early days of microelectronics as a failure mechanism in metallic interconnects, but electrically driven mass transport can also be employed to enable controlled post-fabrication modification of devices. This work presents a literature review of the historical development, physical foundations, and controlled use of electromigration, with emphasis on ceramic materials, particularly complex oxides, with a primary focus on YBa2Cu3O7−δ (YBCO). It is organized into four thematic areas: classical studies of metals, mass-flux and reliability models, fabrication and control techniques, and studies of oxygen migration in functional oxides. In metals, the discussion addresses how effective force, Joule heating, microstructure, flux divergence, and mechanical stresses lead to the formation of voids and hillocks, which are classical outcomes of electromigration. In ceramics, the analysis is extended through electrochemical potential and defect chemistry, since the displacement of ions and vacancies alters stoichiometry, oxidation states, and electronic properties. YBCO is adopted as the central case because oxygen occupancy and ordering in the CuO chains regulate hole doping in the CuO2 planes, allowing its resistance and superconducting critical temperature to be modified. The fabrication of constrictions and nanogaps, resistance- or conductance-based feedback, electropulsing, and polarity reversal are also examined as strategies for controlling electromigration. Taken together, the literature review and analyses conducted show that the same mass transport process that limits interconnect reliability can, when controlled, be employed as a nanofabrication technique for defect nanoengineering and the localized tuning of material and device properties.

Molecular recognition at the interface between nanoparticles (NPs) and biomolecules depends on the structural and stereochemical organization of the interacting surfaces. However, the molecular mechanisms by which surface chirality modulates protein interactions remain only partially understood. This study investigated the influence of the chirality of trimanganese tetroxide nanoparticles functionalized with mannonic acid (Mn3O4-man) on their interaction with human serum albumin (HSA). Molecular dynamics simulations were performed to investigate systems containing apo-HSA and NPs with L- and D-chiral configurations. The trajectories were analyzed in terms of interaction energies, hydrogen bonds, intermolecular contacts, and structural and conformational parameters of the protein. The results showed that the interaction with HSA strongly depends on the chiral configuration of the nanoparticle surface, as only the L-NPs were able to establish stable and energetically favorable interactions with the protein. The D-NPs exhibited only transient contacts and interaction energy profiles close to zero, without the formation of persistent bound states. Spatial analysis of the interactions revealed that chiral recognition occurred locally, with Domain III of HSA, particularly the region corresponding to the Sudlow II site, being the only region capable of sustaining a stable interface with the L-NPs, mainly involving residues Lys538, Ala539, Lys541, and Glu542. The interaction energies and contact maps suggest that interface stabilization depends on the formation of a cooperative network of spatially complementary interactions, consistent with the concept of an interfacial “chiral footprint.” Conformational analyses indicated that persistent interaction with the L-NP induces localized dynamic changes, particularly in Domain III, without compromising the overall structural stability of HSA. The RMSD, RMSF, and radius of gyration results are consistent with a two-step recognition mechanism involving initial recognition driven by stereochemical compatibility between the surfaces, followed by local conformational adaptations consistent with an induced-fit mechanism. Overall, the results demonstrate that surface chirality acts as a selective structural factor in biomolecular recognition, influencing the affinity, temporal persistence, and spatial organization of protein-nanoparticle interactions. These findings contribute to the mechanistic understanding of nano-biomolecular interactions and provide a basis for the rational design of nanomaterials with enhanced biomolecular selectivity.

Forest restoration should be understood as a long-term process of ecological reorganization in which vegetation components and species respond at different rates to environmental changes following intervention. This thesis evaluated the development of a restoring tropical forest over 17 years around the reservoir of the Anhanguera Small Hydroelectric Power Plant in northeastern São Paulo State, Brazil. The restoration covered 70.33 ha and was established in 2008 with approximately 156,000 seedlings of 105 native tree species. The study was based on annual monitoring of 56 permanent 100 m² plots between 2008 and 2025 and, at the end of the period, comparison with 16 plots located in a local forest remnant. The thesis was based on the premise that time since planting alone does not adequately represent forest recovery because ecosystem development depends on temporal changes, spatial variation in environmental conditions, and functional differences among species. The first chapter investigated trajectories of aboveground dry tree biomass, canopy height, tree density, and vertical forest stratification. Gompertz models were used to describe and compare the trajectories of biomass, canopy height, and stratification, whereas density was analyzed directly because its dynamics were not compatible with a simple sigmoidal curve. Results showed strong asynchrony among structural components. Stratification reached its maximum rate of increase at approximately 1.2 years, followed by canopy height, with maximum growth at about 2.5 years. Biomass increased more gradually and reached its maximum increment at approximately 10.4 years. Mean biomass increased from 0.04 Mg/ha at the beginning of monitoring to 230.18 Mg/ha in year 17, accompanied by a marked increase in variation among plots. Density declined after planting because of initial mortality and later increased through the recruitment of naturally regenerating individuals, reaching 4,425 individuals/ha in 2025. At the end of monitoring, 54.9% of all individuals were recruits, although they accounted for only about 1% of total biomass, indicating that biomass accumulation remained concentrated in surviving planted trees. Spatial variation became progressively more evident during forest development, particularly for biomass. In year 17, a structural equation model showed that understory light intensity was positively associated with biomass and canopy height, whereas soil moisture was positively associated with biomass, density, and stratification. Light and moisture were negatively correlated, revealing a local environmental gradient associated with the structural organization of the forest. Because these variables were measured only at the end of the monitoring period, the relationships were interpreted as spatial associations describing the final state of the forest rather than as causal evidence for trajectories accumulated over 17 years. Comparison with the local remnant indicated partial structural convergence: stratification had reached values similar to the reference forest, but biomass corresponded to approximately 75% of that observed in the remnant, canopy height remained about 1 m lower, and density represented approximately 63% of the reference value. Thus, different attributes indicated distinct stages of recovery within the same forest. The second chapter examined whether functional traits measured at the seedling stage could anticipate differences in species performance over nearly two decades. A total of 1,161 individuals belonging to 32 tree species were followed. Specific leaf area, stem specific density, leaf and root mass fractions, and seed mass were summarized into three functional axes that explained 80.14% of total trait variation. The first axis mainly represented a gradient of biomass allocation between roots and leaves; the second was associated with stem specific density and seed mass; and the third was dominated by specific leaf area. Discrete-time hazard models were used to investigate annual mortality, and a structural equation model assessed direct and indirect effects of functional dimensions on biomass in the first and seventeenth years. At the end of monitoring, 871 individuals remained alive, corresponding to 75% of the initial cohort. Mortality risk followed a nonlinear trajectory, with a first peak between years 1 and 2, a prolonged period of lower mortality, and a second increase between years 13 and 15. Local plot biomass and the root-leaf allocation axis were not detectably associated with annual mortality risk. The axis dominated by specific leaf area was associated with a 35.4% reduction in mortality risk per unit increase, with no evidence that this relationship changed through time. In contrast, the axis related to stem specific density and seed mass showed a time-varying association: species with higher scores had greater mortality risk during part of the early and intermediate periods but lower risk during a later stage of forest development. For biomass, both the root-leaf allocation axis and the specific-leaf-area-dominated axis were positively associated with biomass in the first year. Initial biomass was the main predictor of biomass in year 17, and the specific-leaf-area-dominated axis also had a direct effect on final biomass. Therefore, differences established shortly after planting persisted for many years, but functional traits did not influence growth and mortality in the same way. Together, the two chapters demonstrate that restoration followed a multidimensional trajectory characterized by structural asynchrony, increasing spatial variation, and interspecific responses that depended on the performance component and, in some cases, on the stage of forest development. The results do not support a simple opposition between acquisitive and conservative strategies and do not allow the late increase in mortality to be attributed to a single environmental filter. From an applied perspective, restoration assessments should integrate multiple structural indicators, local environmental conditions, and complementary functional dimensions, using long-term monitoring to guide adaptive decisions. After 17 years, the forest shows a consolidated vertical structure, active natural recruitment, and substantial biomass accumulation, but it still differs from the local forest remnant and leaves open questions regarding functional replacement of planted species. Restoration therefore remains an ecological process under construction, in which growth, survival, recruitment, and functionality advance at different rates.

Research on Industry 4.0 in supply chains has developed mainly in traditional manufacturing and service contexts. Creative industries, however, differ substantially from these sectors in the nature of the product, the logic of value creation and market dynamics. Consequently, little is known about how these technologies are transforming the music sector. What is missing, in particular, is a systematic mapping of the technological solutions available and evidence on consumers' willingness to take part in the experiences they enable. To address this gap, this thesis investigated how Industry 4.0 technologies are transforming the Music Industry Supply Chain (MISC) and how live music consumers form the intention to participate in experiences mediated by these technologies. A mixed methods approach with an exploratory sequential design was adopted, organized into three studies. The first combined a systematic literature review, a grey literature survey, content analysis and expert validation, resulting in a framework of 37 Digital Innovation Solutions (DISs) distributed across the five MISC processes, each assigned a readiness level: 18 commercially available, 13 experimental and 6 still conceptual. Once the supply side had been mapped, the empirical investigation was delimited to the exhibition and consumption process, where the interface between technology and the consumer materializes. Within it, two formats were selected in which technology plays opposite roles: in Virtual Reality concerts, it substitutes physical co-presence with a simulated environment; in Digitally Enhanced Live Music Events (DELMEs), it retains physical co-presence and augments it through a subset of the mapped DISs. The two subsequent studies tested behavioral intention models on the same sample of 1,242 Brazilian consumers, analyzed through partial least squares structural equation modeling. The second integrated the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology with the Diffusion of Innovations theory to explain the intention to attend Virtual Reality concerts, incorporating three original constructs: immersive experiential value, physical discomfort risk and perceived rapid adaptability. The third integrated the same acceptance theory with the Theory of Consumption Values to explain participation in DELMEs, specifying instrumental value as a formative construct and proposing multisensory experiential value. The models, specified according to the nature of each format, explained 58.9% and 70.7% of the variance in intention. In both, the strongest predictors were social and experiential rather than technical: in virtual concerts, social influence and immersive experiential value, with facilitating conditions acting indirectly through perceived rapid adaptability; in DELMEs, instrumental value and multisensory experiential value, with technological feasibility operating as an enabling condition. Relative advantage was not supported, suggesting that the two formats constitute distinct modes of music consumption, more complementary than substitutive.

Lying is a complex phenomenon, present in various situations of human interaction and traditionally associated with the utterance of a false statement with the intention of deceiving the interlocutor. However, the diversity of communicative situations in which lying may occur highlights the difficulties in defining it on the basis of strict and necessary criteria. In this context, this dissertation aims to investigate the notion of lying in Brazilian Portuguese (BP) from a perspective grounded in the philosophy of language and Prototype Theory, seeking to understand its gradual organisation and to identify the relevance of the elements that contribute to its categorisation. The research takes as its starting point the model proposed by Coleman and Kay (1981), according to which the prototypical lie involves three features: (A) factual falsity of the proposition, (B) intention to speak falsely, and (C) intention to deceive. Methodologically, the study revisits and expands on previous experiments conducted with speakers of Brazilian Portuguese (Colosso, 2024), through the use of different questionnaires comprising stories representing the possible combinations of the three features. Participants rated each situation on judgement scales, enabling the observation of different degrees of lie attribution and a comparison of the organisation of the features across different experimental conditions. The results show that the simultaneous presence of all three traits constitutes the prototypical core of the category, associated with the highest ratings and the greatest consensus amongst participants. The intermediate conditions, in turn, show that the traits carry different weights in the categorisation: the intention to speak falsely (B) proved to be the most relevant element, followed by the intention to deceive (C), whilst the factual falsity of the proposition (A) had the least influence on the judgements. A comparison with previous findings also reveals a reorganisation in the hierarchy of features, indicating that the categorisation of lies in Brazilian Portuguese does not depend exclusively on the correspondence between the proposition and reality, but primarily involves aspects related to the speaker’s intentions and mental states. It is concluded that, in Brazilian Portuguese, lying does not constitute a category rigidly defined by necessary and sufficient conditions, but rather a gradual category, organised around a prototype and peripheral cases. The results thus reinforce the relevance of the prototypical approach to the study of lying and contribute to an understanding of the interface between Semantics, Pragmatics and Cognition.

MICROWAVE-SYNTHESIZED SILVER SILICATE: CORRELATION BETWEEN STRUCTURE, ELECTRONIC PROPERTIES, AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY. Infectious diseases and the increasing resistance of microorganisms to antimicrobial treatments remain among the major challenges to global public health. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the vulnerability of healthcare systems to emerging pathogens, reinforcing the need for new strategies for the prevention and control of infectious diseases. Within this context, nanomaterials and, particularly, silver-based semiconductors have attracted considerable attention due to their broad antimicrobial activity and their potential to act through multiple mechanisms, such as the generation of reactive oxygen species and disruption of cell membranes. In this context, silver silicate stands out as a promising material for antimicrobial applications due to its physicochemical properties and potential for reactive oxygen species generation. In this work, silver silicate was synthesized by coprecipitation followed by microwave-assisted hydrothermal treatment, with irradiation times ranging from 0 to 64 min. Although all samples exhibited an amorphous character by X-ray diffraction, spectroscopic and electron diffraction analyses revealed progressive changes in structural organization and the development of semicrystalline regions with increasing synthesis time. Microscopic analyses showed a reduction in particle size associated with dissolution and recrystallization dynamics during microwave irradiation. Elemental analyses revealed a progressive increase in silver incorporation. The antimicrobial activity of the materials increased with synthesis time, with the sample obtained after 64 min exhibiting the highest performance against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans. The effective concentrations against these microorganisms remained below the toxicity levels observed in NIH/3T3 fibroblasts. The generation of reactive oxygen species was experimentally confirmed and increased with irradiation time. Therefore, microwave-assisted synthesis proved to be an effective strategy for controlling the structure, composition, and defects of silver silicate, resulting in a material with high antimicrobial activity and favorable biological compatibility.
