This study aims to investigate statistical literacy in the initial training of future mathematics teachers, focusing on the relationship between self-efficacy beliefs and statistical knowledge mobilization when solving tasks. It is grounded in the understanding that developing statistical literacy is a fundamental aspect of teacher training, especially given the increasing prevalence of statistical information in everyday social and school life. The investigation analyzed the written work of undergraduate Pedagogy students, seeking to identify evidence of statistical literacy and understand how their self-efficacy beliefs manifest when facing statistical tasks. This qualitative study involved 18 students from the Pedagogy degree program at a campus of the Federal Institute of São Paulo (IFSP). The data collection utilized a teaching sequence comprising three statistical tasks linked to a self-efficacy belief scale. The analysis of responses was based on the theoretical frameworks of Gal (2002, 2004, 2005) regarding statistical literacy, Curcio (1987, 1989) regarding levels of reading and interpretation, and Duval (2007, 2012) regarding registers of semiotic representation. The results show that participants found tasks involving reading and direct data comparison easier, but struggled with activities requiring deeper interpretation, argumentation, and conversion between different registers of semiotic representation. Furthermore, it was observed that self-efficacy beliefs did not always align with the subjects' actual performance, revealing weaknesses in their perception of their own capabilities. The study concludes that the Pedagogy degree program needs to expand students' exposure to statistical practices that integrate critical reading and interpretation in order to strengthen the confidence and statistical literacy of future teachers.

The National Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Medical Courses emphasize the need for generalist, humanized, critical, and reflective training, aligned with the principles of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). This study presents a reflective narrative and a grounded experience report on the experiences developed within the Education Program through Work for Health (PET-Health) during medical school at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). The study encompasses participation in two consecutive editions of the program: PET-Health Equities (2025), focused on conducting Culture Circles with educators in a school environment, and PET-Health Climate (2026), aimed at a playful approach to sustainability and ecosystems with children aged 4 to 6 years in a Municipal Early Childhood Education Center (CEMEI). The primary objective is to analyze how participation in PET-Health and the practice of light and interprofessional technologies influenced the construction of medical identity and the reorientation of professional practice. The methodological approach was based on the systematization of field journals and training narratives, articulated with theoretical frameworks of Interprofessional Education, Collective Health, Paulo Freire's Critical Pedagogy, and the concept of One Health. The study demonstrates that teaching-service-community integration and interprofessional collaborative work are powerful mechanisms for overcoming the traditional hospital-centered and prescriptive biomedical model. The transition from listening to adults to using playful children's language in the school environment fostered sensitive communication skills, a broader perception of Social and Environmental Determinants of Health, and the strengthening of the future physician's ethical and social commitment to comprehensiveness and equity within the SUS.

This Course Completion Work, structured as an experience report and reflective portfolio, aims to synthesize and analyze the student learning trajectory in the Medical Program at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). Grounded in the program's Pedagogical Project—guided by active learning methodologies, the Constructivist Spiral, and Problem-Based Learning (PBL)—the study reflects academic and personal evolution across five structured chapters. Initially, the pedagogical and institutional foundations, as well as the educational axes of the program, are contextualized. Next, it addresses the adaptation process during the First Cycle, highlighting the shift from the passive stance of traditional education toward the development of student autonomy and attitudinal competencies in small-group work. In the Clinical Cycle, the transition from theoretical foundations to the practical application of diagnostic reasoning in Primary Care is analyzed, complemented by leadership experiences in extracurricular management. In the Internship, the consolidation of medical practice is examined through immersion in major care settings, emphasizing supervised decision-making, uncertainty management, and the refinement of ethics and empathy in the doctor-patient relationship. Finally, the concluding remarks synthesize the impact of this methodology on consolidating the ability to "learn how to learn" and constructing professional identity, reaffirming an ethical and humanized commitment to practicing general medicine within the Unified Health System (SUS).

This Undergraduate Thesis presents a reflection on my trajectory throughout the Medical School program at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), from the period of preparation for admission to the university to the final stage of my undergraduate education. The narrative addresses personal, academic, and professional experiences lived throughout the six years of medical training, highlighting the influence of family, Christian faith, professors, preceptors, colleagues, and patients on the development of my identity as a future physician. The challenges related to adapting to university life, active learning methodologies, autonomy in the learning process, and experiences during the basic and clinical cycles are discussed. Experiences in research, teaching activities, academic leagues, and, particularly, the medical internship are also addressed, with the latter being considered a fundamental stage in approaching professional medical practice. Throughout this trajectory, I reflect on the strengths and limitations of my medical education, the importance of integrating theoretical knowledge with clinical practice, and the role of professors and preceptors as professional examples in medical training. Finally, I present my expectations for my professional future, especially regarding medical residency and my decision to pursue Neurosurgery. The construction of the physician is therefore understood as a continuous process that goes beyond the acquisition of technical knowledge and also involves the development of responsibility, autonomy, ethics, humanism, and commitment to patient care.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an emerging contaminant widely used in the plastics industry; its persistent presence in inland water bodies poses a potential threat to aquatic biota. This study investigated the effects of three BPA concentrations (5 mg L⁻¹ [T1], 15 mg L⁻¹ [T2], and 25 mg L⁻¹ [T3], alongside a control [TC]) on the net photosynthetic rates and growth kinetic parameters of the submerged aquatic macrophyte Egeria densa under controlled laboratory conditions (27 °C and a 12-h photoperiod). Median net photosynthetic rates were 1.75 (TC), 1.00 (T1), 1.25 (T2), and 1.35 mg O₂ g⁻¹ DW h⁻¹ (T3). Although photosynthetic activity decreased, treatment differences were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). In contrast, growth kinetic parameters were highly sensitive to the pollutant, with significant differences (p < 0.05) between the control and the higher-concentration treatments (T2 and T3). The growth coefficient (µ) decreased progressively with increasing contaminant levels: 0.14 day⁻¹ in the TC (doubling time, td = 5 days), 0.07 day⁻¹ in T1, 0.04 day⁻¹ in T2, and 0.02 day⁻¹ in T3; this demonstrates that the control value was seven times higher than that of the treatment with 25 mg BPA L⁻¹. Each 1 mg L⁻¹ increase in BPA reduced the plant growth coefficient by approximately 9%. The half-life of the compound in the experimental media ranged from 6.6 to 8.5 weeks. The results suggest that the growth coefficient of E. densa is a more adequate biometric indicator of BPA contamination than net photosynthetic rate, highlighting the importance of integrated approaches for assessing the toxicity of micropollutants in macrophytes.

The immediate postpartum period represents an important opportunity to offer contraceptive methods, especially in situations in which subsequent access to health services may be limited. The copper intrauterine device (IUD) is an effective and long-acting contraceptive option, although its insertion immediately after vaginal delivery is associated with higher expulsion rates. In this context, this study presents the undergraduate research experience developed at the Federal University of São Carlos, whose objective was to evaluate whether ultrasound-guided insertion of the copper IUD immediately after vaginal delivery would be associated with lower expulsion rates compared with the conventional technique. A randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical trial was conducted, with ultrasound follow-up between 40 and 60 days after delivery. The final sample consisted of 30 participants, 15 in the intervention group and 15 in the control group. Total, partial, and combined expulsion rates were 6.7%, 13.3%, and 20.0%, respectively, in the ultrasound-guided group, compared with 13.3%, 40.0%, and 53.3% in the control group. Although lower rates were observed in the intervention group, no statistically significant differences were identified. The experience contributed to the development of knowledge related to scientific methodology, data analysis, and critical thinking, in addition to representing an important academic opportunity through the Institutional Scientific Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBIC).

Health professionals work in unpredictable contexts and are exposed to stressful events with traumatic potential, which causes mental health damage, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This study evaluates the feasibility of the APP Mental application for the prevention and screening of PTSD symptoms among health professionals, using the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (PCL-5). The research adopts a quantitative, cross-sectional design, with approval from the institutional research ethics committee. The sample comprises individuals over 18 years of age, formally employed by the municipal health department and assigned to Primary Health Care services, who interact with the application for 12 weeks. The application administers a sociodemographic questionnaire and asks about experiences of trauma throughout life, and it sends the PCL-5 to users who report trauma, with a cutoff score of 31 or higher. The analysis uses descriptive statistics in RStudio software. The theoretical framework relies on the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and on studies that associate occupational exposure to traumatic events with psychological distress among health workers. In the partial results, the sample comprises 28 people, mostly women (96.4%), with a mean age of 42 years. Among the 12 PCL-5 respondents, half (50%) score 31 or higher, which indicates greater symptom severity. The study concludes that the preliminary data reinforce the importance of mental health promotion, prevention, and care actions for health workers and indicate the need to develop educational materials on trauma and coping with stress.

This work presents a critical-reflective narrative of my undergraduate medical education at the Federal University of São Carlos. By revisiting personal, academic, and professional experiences throughout six years of training, I reflect on changes in my understanding of medicine, care, and my own professional identity. The narrative follows different stages of this journey, from choosing medicine and entering university during the pandemic to experiences in patient care, research, and extracurricular activities. The main experiences revisited include personal growth in the face of family circumstances, recognition of the influence of socioeconomic conditions on the health-disease process, the development of bonds with patients, encounters with death and the limits of medical practice, and experiences of leadership and personal development through participation in the student athletic association. These experiences helped me understand that medical education extends beyond the acquisition of technical knowledge and also involves communication, relationships, responsibility, teamwork, recognition of my own vulnerability, and an understanding of patients within their social and family contexts. At the end of undergraduate training, I remain aware that medical knowledge is always unfinished and that becoming a physician is an ongoing process. Rather than achieving an ideal professional image, this journey points to a desire to practice person-centered medicine committed to dignified care, the production of knowledge, and the preservation of the human essence of the profession.

This study presents a critical-reflective narrative of the medical training journey of a student from the sixteenth cohort of the Medicine program at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), spanning the period prior to university admission through the final year of undergraduate education. The narrative is organized chronologically according to the years of the medical program, highlighting the main challenges experienced during this period, particularly anxiety and structural limitations of the curriculum, including the lack of adequate practice settings in certain learning environments. It also explores the strengths of the program, notably the quality of its teaching staff and the diverse learning opportunities offered in each stage of training, especially during the final three years. The reflection suggests that the strengths of the program substantially outweigh its limitations and emphasizes the importance of a strong support network during medical education.

Variation in diagnostic criteria and treatments for myofascial pain syndrome complicates the comparison of evidence and its application to clinical practice. Objective: To synthesize the efficacy and safety of therapeutic interventions for adults with myofascial pain syndrome or symptomatic active trigger points. Methods: An overview of systematic reviews was conducted, with searches in PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Epistemonikos in September 2026. Methodological quality was assessed using AMSTAR 2. The descriptive synthesis considered population, intervention, comparator, outcome, and follow-up, accounting for overlap among primary studies. Selection, data extraction, and appraisal were assisted by generative models, with author review and approval within a “human-in-the-loop” framework. Published certainty ratings were used; no new GRADE assessment or meta-analysis was performed. Results: A total of 231 reviews were included: 150 contributed 317 clinical findings, 61 provided contextual information, and no usable findings were located in the extracted data for 20. Methodological confidence was critically low in 221 and indeterminate in 10. For neck pain, lidocaine provided greater pain relief than dry needling across pooled assessments at two to four weeks (mean difference −2.13 points on a scale from 0 to 10; 95% CI −3.22 to −1.03), with low-certainty evidence and no clear advantage for disability or other outcomes. One trial of low-level laser therapy showed a benefit for pain at treatment completion, without demonstrated persistence at six months. For temporomandibular myofascial pain, one trial favored dry needling over botulinum toxin for pain during chewing at six weeks, without a clear benefit for pain at rest or mouth opening. Adverse events were incompletely reported. Conclusion: The findings suggest pain relief in specific comparisons but do not establish an overall treatment ranking. Methodological limitations, imprecision, and study overlap restrict confidence in the conclusions. Clinical application requires consideration of diagnosis, comparator, functional goals, and duration of benefit, alongside uncertainty about safety.

The citrus industry is one of the main activities of Brazilian agribusiness, playing an essential role in generating income, employment, and foreign exchange for the country. This study aimed to analyze the technical and legal aspects involved in the production of citrus nursery plants, as well as to discuss the perspectives and challenges of the Brazilian citrus sector, in order to inform production practices that ensure phytosanitary quality and sector sustainability. Through an integrative literature review, information was gathered from scientific publications, legislation, and technical reports issued by institutions such as MAPA, Embrapa, and Fundecitrus. It was observed that the mandatory use of screened nurseries for citrus seedling production initially established in the state of São Paulo and later extended Nationwide represented a milestone in the modernization of the sector, reducing the spread of diseases such as Citrus Variegated Chlorosis (CVC) and huanglongbing (HLB). The importance of using certified mother plants, implementing sanitary indexing, and applying improved grafting techniques and protected-environment management was also verified. The adoption of rootstocks such as citrandarins and Swingle citrumelo has contributed to greater disease resistance and better adaptation to different edaphoclimatic conditions. Furthermore, the expansion of citrus cultivation into new regions such as Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Bahia, and Paraná reflects not only the search for areas with lower HLB incidence but also economic and structural factors that influence the productive reorganization of the sector. It is concluded that the integration of technology, legislation, and sustainable management is fundamental to ensuring seedling health, competitiveness, and the long-term sustainability of the Brazilian citrus industry.

In Brazil, the study of bovine longevity is extremely important due to the country’s position in the export and production of this sector and, for this reason, there is a strong interest in achieving maximum profitability in this activity. The economic longevity of cows is totally related to reproductive performance, with the trait known as the age of the cow at last calving (ACLC) being a very important variable in this context. Since this variable cannot always be perfectly measured in some scenarios, a censoring criterion is generally applied to this characteristic, which is based on the difference between the date of the cow’s last observed calving and the date of the last calving on the farm. If this difference is greater than or equal to 36 months, the cow failed, as she has gone too long without calving and will be discarded. Otherwise, the cow is still considered reproductive and her age at last calving is censored, since there is still a possibility of her having another pregnancy. Therefore, one of the objectives of this study is to genetically analyze the IVUP variable using frailty models applied to survival analysis. The use of this type of model is justified by the inclusion of random effects, allowing the prediction of genetic factors associated with each animal and also considering associations between them. Another objective of the study is to identify genetic variables that influence bovine longevity, and this will be done through a Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS). The analysis is done using a sample of 862 cows, daughters of 47 different bulls. For confidentiality reasons, the origin of the data is kept secret.
