A Estrada do Pacífico foi construída a partir dos anos 2000 com intuito de interligar Brasil, Peru e Bolívia
e proporcionar o desenvolvimento da Amazônia. Os desdobramentos dessa obra destacam a importância
da avaliação de seus efeitos sobre a atenção à saúde infantil, que constitui um indicador útil às mudanças
na comunidade. O objetivo desse estudo é comparar as mudanças no perfil de saúde de crianças menores
de 5 anos residentes na zona urbana de Assis Brasil, AC, durante e após a construção da Estrada. Trata-se
de dois estudos transversais realizados no município em 2003 e 2011, com todas as crianças abrangidas
pelos critérios de inclusão. A coleta de dados ocorreu por entrevista com o(a) responsável e as análises
foram realizadas com 95% de significância estatística. Verificou-se um incremento na quantidade de
profissionais de saúde no município e aumento em mais de 100% no número de participantes e de
crianças que já havia tido uma consulta com o dentista. Os números referentes à vacinação não
apresentaram mudanças significativas. Concluímos a promoção de impactos positivos, como as melhorias
no serviço de saúde da rede básica e hospitalar e negativos como o crescimento desordenado e piora nas
condições sanitárias dos domicílios.
