A conexão entre filmes e aulas de matemática: um estudo a partir das pesquisas brasileiras

Abstract

This paper presents a systematic review of Brazilian research, specifically Master’s theses, which examine the connection between films and the process of teaching mathematics in basic education. The theoretical framework provides an overview of the history of films, their uses in education as a whole, and their applications in mathematics education. As part of the methodological approach to this qualitative research study, an explanation was developed of the selection and exclusion criteria for the works to be analysed; this resulted in a total of eight master’s theses from across Brazil. Each of these academic works was read in full, enabling the identification of common, divergent and, above all, relevant elements across the theses when discussing the connection between films and mathematics lessons. In the concluding remarks, it was found that, although limited in number, the Brazilian literature on the chosen topic presents a good diversity of approaches in mathematics lessons, whether in terms of the educational perspective, the content or the films used; however, teachers must exercise great care and attention when using films as part of the teaching and learning process in mathematics lessons, as this process requires thorough planning and organisation. In conclusion, it is considered that there are grounds for optimism regarding future productions in this genre, based on what has already been produced, and we can therefore look forward to new and more diverse approaches to films in maths lessons.
