Resumo
The demand for building a high-performance X-ray tomography beamline
energy in the Brazilian synchrotron accelerator, Sirius, required the development of a project for a
superconducting magnet with a magnetic field greater than 6 T. Aiming at this, there was the interest of
Division of Engineering and Technology of the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials
(CNPEM) in starting research in the field of Superconductivity.
In this sense, a multidisciplinary team developed the preliminary design of a magnet
superconductor with three poles, one central and two lateral, of 6.32 T peak field, called
Superconducting Wavelength Shifter (SWLS). The definition of the magnet models was based on
simulations seeking to respect the design assumptions: operation in a straight stretch, reuse
of the maximum equipment of a deactivated superconducting magnet in CNPEM, magnetic field
above 6 T, narrow field profile in the central pole region (FWHM ≈ 30), magnetic gap
7 mm and operating margin above 20%.
The SWLS electromagnetic model has a set consisting of 6 superconducting coils
of Nb-Ti. After defining the parameters of the superconducting wire and the model geometry,
a fabrication route for superconducting coils was proposed. Afterwards, she
was validated with the development of a copper prototype. This Final Course Work
presents important concepts about superconductivity applied to insertion devices,
such as SWLS, and the development of the superconducting magnet project to define the models
and coil manufacturing route, as well as the prototyping of a copper coil as a
route validation.
