Resistência e a luta pela água e acesso ao saneamento básico: o caso do assentamento rural Bela Vista Paranapanema/SP

Abstract

This study delves deeper into the analysis of disparities in access to potable water and basic sanitation in marginalized communities, taking the Rural Settlement of Bela Vista as a case study. Founded 11 years ago, the settlement has faced the absence of an adequate potable water supply system since its creation, generating numerous difficulties for the community. Through a qualitative and quantitative approach, and under the perspective of Black epistemology, this research investigates the mobilization and resistance strategies adopted by the community, aiming to unveil sociospatial inequalities and human rights violations. The research reveals the fundamental role of Black leadership in this historical struggle and, for the first time, accompanies the community in the final preparations for the inauguration of the potable water supply system, a milestone in guaranteeing access to this basic right. By analyzing the relationship between the lack of access to basic services and environmental justice from a decolonial perspective, the research revealed the profound influence of historical processes on the current water crisis. The decolonization of practices and discourses on water proved to be fundamental to understanding and transforming this reality, paving the way for the construction of a more equitable and sustainable future.
