Lutamos por amor: afetos e política na luta das mães de Manguinhos

Abstract

The Mães de Manguinhos collective is made up of mothers and family members of victims of state violence, who organize themselves with

the aim of denouncing and acting on the arbitrary actions of the police and Brazilian governance towards the poor, black and peripheral population. This work focuses on presenting how affection goes through the process called by the collective as “the transformation of mourning into struggle”. Here, I argue that its political agencies are built through and on affects. The articulations built from affections present themselves as an important resource that gives form and legitimacy in the face of political demands, and also constitutes a network of mutual support between other subjects who share their experiences and support their cause, contributing to subjective support for continuity of their lives after the loss of their loved ones.
