Item type:Item, Alterações cardiovasculares induzidas pela obesidade : envolvimento do sistema reninaangiotensina no núcleo do trato solitário(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-01) ;Speretta, Guilherme Fleury Fina ;Bassi, Mirian ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/6509371711076928 ;Colombari, Débora Simões de Almeidahttps://lattes.cnpq.br/1684467594359403In the last decades, obesity has become a worldwide epidemy. Excess of adipose tissue favors the development of associated diseases such as hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea and type II diabetes. Data from the literature have shown that obesity activates the reninangiotensin system (RAS), increases sympathetic nerve activity and pro-inflammatory cytokines levels, including in the central nervous system. However, the pathways and neural mechanisms involved in these responses are not yet fully elucidated. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the cardiovascular and metabolic responses in high-fat diet (HFD) feeding rats. We also study the possible participation of the RAS and the immune system in the nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS) in the obesity-induced cardiovascular changes. Finally, we tested if the resistance training (RT) performed at moderate intensity would be able to prevent obesityinduced cardiovascular changes. To achieve these goals, adult Holtzman rats (300-320 g) were fed with HFD (3.82 kcal/g and 26.4% total fat) or standard chow diet (SD; 2.25 kcal/g and 5.4% total fat) for 6 weeks. We observed higher blood levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, leptin and glucose and decreased insulin sensitivity after 6 weeks of HFD. There was an increase in mean arterial pressure (MAP), the sympathetic modulation of systolic blood pressure (SBP), heart rate (HR) and sympathovagal balance of pulse interval (PI), and an impairment in the bradycardic response of the baroreflex in HFD feeding animals. After 6 weeks of HFD, there was an increase in the mRNA expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukine-6 (IL-6), an increase in the mRNA expression of the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and AT1 receptor, and a decrease in the expression of AT2 and Mas receptors. In agreement with the increased expression of cytokines in the NTS we have demonstrated higher GFAP immunoreactivity (specific marker of astrocytes) and higher number of positive cells for Iba-1 (specific marker for microglia) in the NTS in rats fed with HFD. The blockade of AT1 receptor in the NTS in animals fed with HFD promoted a decrease in MAP, reduced the sympathetic modulation in SBP, reduced the sympathovagal balance of PI and restored the bradycardic response of the baroreflex. The overexpression of the AT2 receptors in the NTS in rats fed with HFD reestablished HR, baroreflex sensitivity and sympathovagal balance of PI, and partially attenuated the increase in sympathetic modulation of SBP. These responses were associated with increased Mas receptor mRNA expression and reduction in the TNF-α mRNA expression in the NTS. However, these effects were not sufficient to restore the MAP in HFD feeding rats with AT2 receptors overexpression in the NTS. Finally, the RT prevented cardiovascular changes induced by HFD, including increases in MAP, sympathetic modulation of SBP, HR, sympathovagal balance of PI, and reduced baroreflex sensitivity. These responses were associated with increased expression of mRNA for components of protective RAS axis (AT2 and Mas receptors and ACE2), and the antiinflammatory cytokine IL-10 as well as the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL -1β) in the NTS. Together, our data suggest that HFD promotes increases in plasma levels of glucose and leptin, with dysfunction in insulin sensitivity. HFD also promotes increases in blood pressure associated with increased sympathetic modulation in SBP, sympathovagal balance of PI, HR and baroreflex dysfunction. The neuroinflammatory process and an imbalance between the pressor and protective RAS axis in the NTS seem to be involved with the development/maintenance of the cardiovascular alterations induced by HFD. The TF performed at moderate intensity seems to be an important tool in preventing cardiovascular changes induced by HFD.Item type:Item, Lectinas : caracterização quimiotaxinomica de microalgas de água doce(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-02) ;Archanjo, Naiara Carolina Pereira ;Bagatini, Inessa Lacativa ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/3904631503604006 ;Vieira, Armando Augusto Henriqueshttps://lattes.cnpq.br/4428377384377272Freshwater green microalgae are a group which present great complexity for classical morphological taxonomy. For groups like Selenastraceae family, the morphological characteristics are ambiguous at genus level and do not reflect the phylogenetic relationships. Taxonomic polyphasic approaches have been emerged to assist the classical taxonomy in the classification of such groups. Taking into account the specific relation lectin-carbohydrate and the great diversity in monomer composition of extracellular polysaccharides from microalgae, we aim to understand if some microalgae taxa have specific terminal monosaccharides set, which could be used as chemotaxonomic feature within a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Thus, we performed an optimization of methods so far used in taxonomy, and analyzed the terminal monosaccharides and lectins behavior against ten species from different genera to the following families: Selenastraceae and Scenedesmaceae (Chlorophyceae), Botryococcaceae and Oocystaceae (Trebouphyceae), and Fragilariaceae, Stephanodiscaceae (Bacillariphyceae), all of them in crops. We noticed that is possible, using this technique, to separate strains from the same species isolated different from places. Furthermore, we found some indicator monosaccharides the microalgae of some taxa. In this work we use six types of lectins and eleven anti synthetic lectins to recognize the terminal monosaccharides and lectins.Item type:Item, Técnica de macacos planos na avaliação de estruturas de alvenaria com blocos vazados de concreto(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-02) ;Soriani, Mateus de Oliveira ;Parsekian, Guilherme Aris ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/7798651726059215https://lattes.cnpq.br/1265464055806437The present study delas with nondestructive evaluation of modern masonry built with hollow concrete blocks, through the flatjack technique. The technique is already used to evaluate masonry structures with solid bricks and stones and it is considered as efficient to obtain in situ mechanical properties, without any permanent damages. The tests in solid unit masonry using flatjack is included in international standards and recommendations as: ASTM C 1196 e 1197-09 e RILEM MDT.D.4 e MDT.D.5-04. The current standards and the practical applications deal with masonry with brick or stones elements only. Nondestructive evaluation in modern hollow block masonry is demanded and the flatjack can be used in these cases. However, the current available jack can be used only on solid units, due to its geometrical limitations. Therefore, this research proposes to adapt the flatjack technique for nondestructive evaluation in modern masonry built with hollow concrete blocks. The analyzed test is the deformability one, which the modulus of elasticity and an estimative of the compressive strength is wanted. In this research, a new flatjack equipment was developed to allow its application on hollow blocks and it was tested in modern masonry samples. The new equipment was successfully developed and it was used in flatjack tests on hollow concrete block masonry. As main results, masonry properties obtained from the flatjack technique was close to the expected ones, indicating the great potentiality of the technique for hollow blocks also.Item type:Item, Preparo e caracterização morfológica, microestrutural e magnética de eletrodepósitos de NiFe e NiFeCu(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-03) ;Pereira, Rodrigo ;Souza, Ernesto Chaves Pereira de ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/1505400360366643https://lattes.cnpq.br/5330716894475178This work presents the investigation of the correlation between microstructural, morphological and compositional properties with the magnetic behavior of NiFe and NiFeCu alloys. A 23 factorial design was carried out to correlate the effects of preparation variables on the NiFe and NiFeCu films properties. The studied parameters have been the deposition potential (-1,03 V and -1,10 V), deposition time (15 and 40 minutes) and temperature of bath (25 °C and 45 °C). Structural characterization was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Reitveld refinement showed the formation of the film NiFe and NiFeCu with face-centred cubic (FCC) structure with preferred orientation in the (111) direction and anisotropic cause by strain and crystallite size. The morphological characterization showed the formation of a homogeneous film with a similar grain structure of the sample prepared. The magnetic properties of the alloys were performed magnetic moment measurements as a function of magnetic field, temperature and the angle between the applied magnetic field and the sample surface. The results showed the directions of easy magnetization axis and the contribution of different types of magnetization anisotropic. The magnetic properties, saturation magnetization (MS), remanent magnetization (MR) e Curie temperature (TC), depend on the atomic amount of Ni and Fe present in alloys. Moreover, it was possible to correlate the microstructural modification (crystallite size and strain) with magnetic properties of the alloys.Item type:Item, Contribuições em modelos de regressão com erro de medida multiplicativo(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-04) ;Silva, Eveliny Barroso da ;Diniz, Carlos Alberto Ribeiro ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/3277371897783194https://lattes.cnpq.br/3911410872456214In regression models in which a covariate is measured with error, it is common to use structures that correlate the observed covariate with the true non-observed covariate. Such structures are usually additive or multiplicative. In the literature there are several interesting works that deal with regression models having an additive measurement error, many of which are linear models with covariate and measurement error normally distributed. For models having a multiplicative measurement error, one does not find in the literature the same theoretical amount of works as one finds for models in which the measurement error is additive. The same happens in situations where the supositions of normality for the covariates and the measurement errors do not apply. The present work proposes the construction, definition, estimation methods, and diagnostic analysis for the regression models with a multiplicative measurement error in one of the covariates. For these models it is considered that the response variable may belong either to the class of modified power series regression models or to the exponential family. The list of distributions belonging to the family modified power series is rather comprehensive; for this reason this work develops, firstly and in a general way, the models estimation and validation theory, and, as an example, presents the model of negative binomial regression with measurement error. In the case where the response variable belongs to the exponential family, the model of beta regression with multiplicative measurement error is presented. All proposed models were analysed through simulation studies and applied to real data sets.Item type:Item, Estudos de melhorias no processo de hidrólise enzimática de biomassas para produção de etanol(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-04) ;Corrêa, Luciano Jacob ;Badino Júnior, Alberto Colli ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/6244428434217018 ;Cruz, Antonio José Gonçalves dahttps://lattes.cnpq.br/1812806190521028In this work it was evaluated, firstly, the performance of four impellers configurations in the enzymatic hydrolysis of sugarcane bagasse. The configurations evaluated were: (1): Rushton turbine - Rushton turbine; (2): Elephant ear down-pumping and Rushton turbine; (3): Rushton turbine and Elephant ear up-pumping; (4): Elephant ear downpumping and Elephant ear up-pumping. The choice of the best impeller configuration was based in mixing efficiency, characterized by the mixing time. The configurations were also evaluated considering the conversion of cellulose to glucose, power consumption as well as the rheological behavior during hydrolysis. The hydrolysis experiments were carried out in batch stirred tank reactor (3 L) using 10% w/v of solids (pH 4.8; 50°C; 470 rpm), 10 FPU· g-1 biomassa for 96 h. The configuration (4) showed the lowest mixing time and energy efficiency values (ratio of conversion of cellulose to glucose and total energy consumption) of 78.9%·MJ-1. Further, to get a high concentration of glucose associated with low power consumption, it was investigated two operating modes: batch and fed-batch. The strategies evaluated were: E1 [20%]; E2 [10(E)+5+5%]; E3 [5(E)+5+5+5%]; E4 [5(E)+5+5+5%], and E5 5(E)+5(E)+5(E)+5(E)%]. The best energy efficiency was obtained for the E5 strategy in which substrate and enzyme were added simultaneously (0.35 kgglicose·kWh-1). This value was 52% higher than that obtained in the single batch operation (E1). In continuation of the work were carried out enzymatic hydrolysis of exploded and hydrothermal bagasse and cane straw submitted to hydrothermal pretreatment. The experiments were carried out under the conditions: solids loading of 10 (w/v), pH 4.8; 50 ° C; 470 rpm and 10 FPU·g-1 biomass for 96 h. The efficiency obtained in the enzymatic hydrolysis of steam explosion sugarcane bagasse proved to be 41 and 46% higher than the hydrolysis of hydrothermally pretreated sugarcane straw and bagasse, respectively. Finally, a scale-up protocol with a scale factor equal to 1000 was proposed. It was analyzed the maintenance of two parameters on larger scale: the constancy of the mixing time (tm) and the constancy of the power consumption per unit volume (P/V). In turn, maintenance P/V parameter constant, the mixing time and the new scale power consumption (3000L) were approximately 4 and 1000 times higher, respectively, than those values obtained in the smaller scale (3L).Item type:Item, Biodiversidade de Selenastraceae (Sphaeropleales, Chlorophyceae) : características morfológicas e sequenciamento dos marcadores moleculares 18S rDNA, rbcL e ITS como base taxonômica tradicional(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-04) ;Silva, Thaís Garcia da ;Vieira, Armando Augusto Henriques ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/4428377384377272https://lattes.cnpq.br/5664802098183026The phylogeny of the family Selenastraceae was investigated by light microscopy, molecular analysis of 18S rDNA, rbcL, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 and ITS-2 markers. Several morphological features traditionally used for identification of genera and species were investigated. All Selenastraceae strains studied presented naked pyrenoids within the chloroplast, except for Chlorolobion, which presented starched pyrenoid. Molecular analysis showed that no isolated morphological criteria considered so far is significant for the systematic of Selenastraceae, but a set of characteristics may be appropriate to identify species of genera Ankistrodesmus, Chlorolobion, Kirchneriella, Raphidocelis and Tetranephris. Phylogenetic analyses showed that genera Monoraphidium, Kirchneriella and Selenastrum are polyphyletic and not distinguishable as separate genera. The Selenastrum morphotype revealed three different molecular lineages, leading to the description of two new genera, Curvastrum gen. nov and Messastrum gen. nov. In addition, molecular phylogenetic analysis revealed four lineages assigned to Kirchneriella orphotype, leading to the description of five new species: Genus 1 sp. nov. 1, Genus 2 sp. nov. 1, Genus 2 sp. nov. 2, Raphidocelis sp. nov. and Tetranephris sp. nov.Item type:Item, A fragilidade em residentes de um condomínio exclusivo para idosos do interior de São Paulo(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-05) ;Leite, Juliana Cerqueira ;Zazzetta, Marisa Silvana ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/2350656835896699https://lattes.cnpq.br/0101239815512714The frailty in elderly people deserves attention, especially with the increase in life expectancy and the predominance of chronic degenerative diseases during later stages of life. The recent establishments of condominiums exclusive for elderly people that offer to provide care for their special needs can be explained by factors like population ageing and worries regarding the availability of proper housing for elderly people. This study aims to analyze the services and practices offered by a condominium for elderly people and their relation to the frailty and care needs of the residents. This is a transversal, exploratory, descriptive, quantitative and qualitative study that took place in a condominium located in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Semi-structured interviews, the Fried phenotype of Frailty to evaluate the frailty, Geriatric Depression Scale (short form) to track depressive symptoms, Katz Index and Lawton and Brody Scale for basic and instrumental activities of daily living, Mini-Mental State Examination and Clock Test to investigate the cognitive conditions, Genogram and Ecomap for evaluation of family and social support network were all used to perform this study. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation test and the Manny Whitney and Kruskarl Wallis’s comparing test groups. Content analysis was performed to improve quality. There were 28 participants in the study, with an average age of 73.68 years (± 5.95) – most of them female (64,3%). Regarding frailty, 42.9% are pre-frail, and the variables more related to fragility were physical activity, basic and instrumental activities of daily living and cognition. Although having families, all the elderly people have a debilitated social network. The condominium was designed to provide housing for elderly in both social and economic vulnerability that are still able to live alone, not being structured to meet the needs of elderly people in fragile conditions. The elderly are presenting pre-frailty condition, and they are becoming frail sooner than expected. Physical activity, activities of daily life and cognition represent the major factors related to frailty, compromising the independence of its residents. Therefore, for the condominium, it’s necessary to choose between stay offering assistance services only for independent and healthy elderly residents, or modify its entire organization, objectives and inclusion criteria and start offering services to meet the needs of frail elderly, ensuring a longer permanence of them in their homes.Item type:Item, Estudo de compostos cerâmicos para utilização em coatings de alta emissividade(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-05) ;Campiteli, Ricardo Guimarães ;Morelli, Márcio Raymundo ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/0172837599844991https://lattes.cnpq.br/1949033820446298The constant search for means to reduce the energetic consumption motivates the use of high emissivity ceramic coatings in many high temperature applications. Its use aims to increase heat transfer efficiency by radiation from substrates on which coatings are applied, reducing the emission of gases that contribute to global warming by saving energy in heating processes. They are composed by refractory components and high emissivity materials such as cerium oxide, chromium (III) oxide, boron carbide and others with scarce availability or low commercial viability. The objective of this study is to improve knowledge in the compounds of high melting point that have high emissivity, seeking alternatives to more abundant and greater efficiency in their use in ceramic coatings compositions. For this purpose were evaluated different ceramic compounds in the composition of these high emissivity coatings. To verify the heat transfer efficiency was analyzed the coated surfaces and its temperature maintenance in substrates with and without application of coating, by an indirect method of measuring the emissivity. This method basically consists in compare the emissivity from the different coated surfaces with various coating compositions made from viable emissivity agents, using infrared temperature measurement. Also its microstructure and the chemical analysis were evaluated. The use of iron chromite achieved a promising result elevating the surface emissivity about 8% in relation to a coating composition without any emissive agent.Item type:Item, Os materiais didáticos de inglês como língua estrangeira (LE) na prática de professores da escola pública : um convite à formação reflexiva ou à perpetuação do ensino prescritivo?(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-12) ;Lucas, Patrícia de Oliveira ;Graves, Kathleen ;Augusto-Navarro, Eliane Hercules ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/5716027350340906https://lattes.cnpq.br/0974373709067343This study investigates the pedagogical practices of four EFL public school teachers, when these professionals make use of teaching materials in their classrooms. In their own voices and guided by their own experiences, these teachers were asked to characterize and report how they handle materials while teaching their students. The roles represented by these materials according to the observed practices were also discussed and analyzed in this dissertation, and distilled into metaphors. In order to better understand the relationship between teachers’ practices and teaching materials, the researcher made use of stimulated recall sessions and a reflective interview. These tools were crucial to this research, as they gave the teachers the opportunity to revisit pedagogical practices. This study is ethnographic-based within a qualitative-interpretive paradigm. According to the data presented in this dissertation, we can infer that stimulated recall sessions and a reflective interview were invaluable resources for this research, as both of them contributed to the reflection process, helping teachers to (re)think their own practices and the roles they have in the classroom as professionals. This dissertation also tries to knit together studies related to teacher preparation and teaching materials, as this combination still remains a gap in the teacher education area. Another gap, which this dissertation attempts to address, is the lack of studies that have given voice to teachers, in order to understand their own perspectives on teaching materials. For future research, we would like to deepen and better investigate and undertake studies which focus is on the combination of teacher preparation and teaching materials (conceptualizations and uses), according to teachers’ and also students’ voices.Item type:Item, Regulação da temperatura corporal : sensores e efetores térmicos(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-12) ;Scarpellini, Carolina da Silveira ;Almeida, Maria Camila ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9447755981910182 ;Bícego, Kênia Cardosohttps://lattes.cnpq.br/0169967378071426In this study, we aimed at investigating the involvement of the warmth-sensitive channel – TRPV4 (in vitro sensitive to temperatures in the range of approx. 24–34°C) – on the thermoregulatory mechanisms in rats. We treated rats with a chemical selective antagonist (HC-067047) of the TRPV4 channel and measured core body temperature, metabolism, heat loss index and preferred ambient temperature. The behavioral mechanism was also assessed after treatment with topical agonist (RN-1747). Our data revealed that intravenous blockade of this channel with HC-067047 caused an increase in core body temperature at ambient temperature of 26 and 30°C, but not at 22 and 32°C. At 26°C, HC-067047-induced hyperthermia was accompanied by increase in oxygen consumption (an index of thermogenesis). Furthermore, rats chemically stimulated with TRPV4 agonist choose colder ambient temperatures and the cold-seeking behaviour after thermal stimulation (28–31°C) was inhibited by TRPV4 antagonist. Our results suggest, for the first time, that TRPV4 channel is involved in the recruitment of behavioural and autonomic warmth-defence responses to regulate core body temperature.Item type:Item, Abordagens sintéticas visando a preparação de bacterioclorinas de alta conjugação(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-12) ;Assis, Francisco Fávaro de ;Oliveira, Kleber Thiago de ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/3759761373942891https://lattes.cnpq.br/0182263452298453Bacteriochlorins are porphyrin derivatives containing two reduced peripheral double bonds (FIGURE 1). The aim of this study was to analyze the extent to which the software GeoGebra contributed to the learning of the content of point and line. Two groups of the daytime period of the 3rd grade of high school participated in the study of a public school in a city of São Paulo. Both classes were submitted to a Sequence of Activities that considered the different Registers of Semiotic Representation, according to Raymond Duval's Theory. The first group (T1), worked with activities in instructional and constructional approaches using GeoGebra, while the other (T2) worked the activities using pencil and paper. The data were obtained from a questionnaire about the participants' profile, a Pre-Test, Intermediate Evaluation and a Post-Test. Group 1 started the sequence with 0.15 points in relation to the average of the participants of Class 2, and ended with 0.71 points, that is, very close. We consider that for the two classes, the concepts were learned, since the averages in the post-test were 7.90 and 7.19, respectively. It was verified that in the questions that approached the abilities of visualization (locate, identify) and construction (trace, represent), Group 1 presented higher averages than the participants of Group 2, however in the questions that required calculation ability, Group 2 obtained better averages . In this way, we consider that GeoGebra contributed to the learning of point and straight contents, favoring the representation of mathematical objects in different registers. However, we believe that it should be associated with other methodologies that account for the students' comprehension and appropriation of calculation ability, which only the use of the software did not contribute to develop.Item type:Item, Cuidado à criança e ao adolescente com deficiência visual : experiência da família(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-15) ;Barbieri, Mayara Caroline ;Dupas, Giselle ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9461883918498554https://lattes.cnpq.br/4667229554253725Visual impairment classification varies from low visual loss to total absence of vision. There are many alterations in the routine of children and teenagers who suffer with visual impairment, changing their independency, the way they do everyday activities and the relationship with other people, changing their family lives too. Based on this, we found the necessity and motivation to do this research, which aims to study the experiences of visual impaired children and teenagers. This is a qualitative and descriptive research conducted in two cities, with the Symbolic Interactionism as theoretical reference. In the city A, the identification of the families was done using the data supplied by the Secretaria Estadual de Educação do Estado de São Paulo (the official government institution for education in the state of Sao Paulo). In the city B, we obtained the data from an institution for people with visual impairment; eighteen families were interviewed, and the total number of participants was 61. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, genogram and ecomap. They were recorded and conducted in their homes or in the institution; the research was approved by the University research ethics committee number: 1.034.350. The narrative analysis was used as the methodological reference to make the interpretation of the interviews and understand the trajectory of the families. For a better comprehension, the results were divided in themes, categories and subcategories and organized in three articles for the data analysis. The trajectory starts with the perception of the first signs of visual impairment and the surprise with the diagnosis. After, the families have to adapt their routines in order to facilitate patient’s life. Among the adaptations, there is the use of treatment resources, the necessity to adapt and accept the condition, to protect and to understand the limits to overprotection. The school environment was described as difficult and traumatic in the city A. The social support received by the family may not be characterized as social network, but as a social support. For the families who live in the city B, the support from a specialized organization was essential to deal with visual impairment. We may conclude that it is necessary the qualification of education and health professionals to modify the reality of these families. This research may support improvements in current public health policies and create new ones for the inclusion of visual impaired patientsItem type:Item, Relação entre queixa de memória, alterações cognitivas, autopercepção da saúde e ADAM10, em idosos(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-15) ;Almeida, Mariana Luciano de ;Cominetti, Márcia Regina ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/3725318894555272 ;Vale, Francisco de Assis Carvalho dohttps://lattes.cnpq.br/7135183635933470There is a wide divergence of results in the literature on the clinical relevance and the etiology of memory complaints (MC). Currently QM is being studied as pre-clinical symptom of Alzheimer's disease before a possible CCL setting. Our hypothesis is that MC may be associated with lower performance on cognitive tests or a low self-rated health. Objective. To investigate the relationship among MC in elderly patients with objective cognitive impairment and self-rated health. Method. This was a cross-sectional, correlational and quantitative study. The instruments used were the Memory Complaint Scale (MCS) - forms A and B, Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination – Revised (CEA-R), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Clock Drawing Test (CDT), Medical Outcomes Study 8-item Short-Form Heath Survey, Geriatric Depression Scale and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Results. Participated in this study 83 subjects, divided between the two forms of MCS evaluation scale. Sociodemographic groups were very similar, with no significant differences with MC. According to MCS-A, there was a significant association only with the CDT. MCS-B was associated with ACE-R and its domains memory, fluency and visual spatial orientation?. A ROC curve was drawn from the results of MCS-B in relation to the ACE-R and MMSE, demonstrating the high specificity of the instrument. Conclusion. In this study it was not found robust results with MC reported by the elderly and changes in cognitive screening tests. However, when the informant reported the complaint, the analysis with cognitive performance levels were more consolidated. This results highligh the need to include and empower perception of someone who knows enough the elderly to assess the MC globally.Item type:Item, Segmentação de placas de esclerose múltipla em imagens de ressonância magnética usando modelos de mistura de distribuições t-Student e detecção de outliers(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-15) ;Freire, Paulo Guilherme de Lima ;Ferrari, Ricardo José ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/8460861175344306https://lattes.cnpq.br/8197613219529074Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory demyelinating (that is, with myelin loss) disease of the Central Nervous System (CNS). It is considered an autoimmune disease in which the immune system wrongly recognizes the myelin sheath of the CNS as an external element and attacks it, resulting in inflammation and scarring (sclerosis) of multiple areas of CNS’s white matter. Multi-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been successfully used in diagnosing and monitoring MS due to its excellent properties such as high resolution and good differentiation between soft tissues. Nowadays, the preferred method to segment MS lesions is the manual segmentation, which is done by specialists with limited help of a computer. However, this approach is tiresome, expensive and prone to error due to inter- and intra-variability between observers caused by low contrast on lesion edges. The challenge in automatic detection and segmentation of MS lesions in MR images is related to the variability of size and location of lesions, low contrast due to partial volume effect and the high range of forms that lesions can take depending on the stage of the disease. Recently, many researchers have turned their efforts into developing techniques that aim to accurately measure volumes of brain tissues and MS lesions, and also to reduce the amount of time spent on image analysis. In this context, this project proposes the study and development of an automatic computational technique based on an outlier detection approach, Student’s t-distribution finite mixture models and probabilistic atlases to segment and measure MS lesions volumes in MR images.Item type:Item, Propriedades de zeólitas x formadas por partículas micro- e nanométricas contendo cátions alquilamônio lineares(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-15) ;Motta, Ingrid Lopes ;Cardoso, Dilson ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/2462847535959232https://lattes.cnpq.br/7316716421984702Nanosized NaX zeolites (FAU) (crystallite size = 16 nm; Si/Al ratio = 1,5) were synthesized and modified through ion exchange with linear alkylammonium cations containing from one to six carbons, with the intent to activate basic sites. In this work, commercial microsized zeolites (Aldrich) were also ion exchanged for comparison matters and all samples were characterized. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that both micro- and nanosized zeolites containing sodium portray polycrystalline particles: the former presents octahedral habit and particle size of 2952 nm and the latter presents an indefinite habit and particle size of 426 nm. Among the ion exchanged samples, none presented complete exchange of the Na+ cations due to steric hindrance. Nanosized zeolites presented higher exchange degrees than the microsized ones, which is due to higher accessibility to the exchange sites. Such factors also explain the exchange degrees’ reduction with the cations’ chain length, which is less abrupt among the nanosized samples. This happens due to the nanosized samples’ higher interparticular porosity, which has also allowed their micropore volumes’ constant decrease, differently from the microsized samples, which faced a minimum value with butylammonium. When the cations’ length is increased, the unit cell expands in comparison to the zeolites containing sodium since bulkier cations cause variations in the length and angle of the of the O-Si-O and O-Al-O bonds. Through thermogravimetric analysis in oxidant atmosphere, it was observed that the longer the carbon chain length, the lower is the mass loss, which evidences the lower diffusional limitations. The same was observed in inert atmosphere, which indicates that the presence of O2 does not influence the thermal events. Nanosized zeolites illustrate smoother mass loss profiles, which marks smaller diffusional limitations. The zeolitic materials were catalytically evaluated along the Knoevenagel condensation between butyraldehyde and ethyl cyanoacetate (3% m/m catalyst) during 1 h. The nanometric zeolites presented higher conversions and higher reaction rates when t = 0 than the microcrystalline ones, confirming the advantages of nanosized materials.Item type:Item, Experiências de infâncias com produções de culturas no Ilê Axé Omo Oxé Ibá Latam(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-15) ;Souza, Ellen de Lima ;Montrone, Aida Victoria Garcia ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9011731777978672https://lattes.cnpq.br/2996966307456495This thesis entitled "Childhoods experiences with Crop Yields in Ile Axe Omo Ibá Latam", sought to bring insights grounded in a cognitive justice perspective, recognizing children as crop producers in their social practices and tracing dialogues with theoretical frameworks and methodological Latin Americans and Africans. The guiding research question is; "As social practices of children's cultures in Ile Axe Omo x and IBA Latam constitute childhoods in Candomblé?". And the goal of "Understanding how social practices of child cultures in Ile Axe Omo Ibá Latam, unfold in educational processes and unveil new understandings and meanings on the childhood", allowed the children to bring their experiences of ancestry, corporeality and orality lived in Candomblé, through different epistemologies. The methodology was built with children and Candomblé community with inspiration in phenomenology and semiotics of communication in order to capture the different languages of children. The data are described in a comprehensive analysis building episodes through the record collected with children. Data analysis considered the possibility of establishing dialogues between the principles of world Yoruba cosmology present in Candomblé with the legal frameworks of the opinions CNE / CP / 03/2004 and CNE / CB / 20/2009 Children's Educational own. Considering the circularity present throughout the research aportada in exúlica logic is indicated possibilities for building an egalitarian education through the production of cultures of children of Candomblé.Item type:Item, A atuação dos supervisores no âmbito do PIBID(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-15) ;Barros, André da Silva ;Fernandes, Hylio Laganá ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/1315602045624096https://lattes.cnpq.br/8349369486316992In this master thesis, I seek to analyze the supervisor's papers and contributions of the PIBID (Programa Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à docência) in the various contributions of the program supervisor and implications in the continued training of supervisors. I made this study by analyze of texts presented at the V Encontro Nacional de Licenciaturas (ENALIC), IV Seminário Nacional do PIBID and XI Seminário de Iniciação à Docência (SID), held between December – days 8 to 12 – of 2014 at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Thus, the general purpose of this research is to find out what the texts publicated within event bring about the acting of the supervisors and their possible contributions in the graduated formation of students participants of the PIBID, beyond to show considerations about what the supervisors got in their formation when they participated on program. The question resulting of this goal is how is characterized the formation and the acting of PIBID supervisors within of the V ENALIC's and of the another two events publications. The theoretical grounding to this work is based on the dialogue between public policies and the production in the teacher formation area, articulating these ideas with the publications of the events. Methodologically, I made an analysis of the V ENALIC et al documents, bringing, as results, reflections about what the supervisors understand to respect their roles. The survey of the minutes found out nine texts perpetrated by supervisors: the informations’s joined of this documents, shaped of groups, categories, itens and fragments of analysis, seeks the understanding about the roles and contributions of and about the people that were envolved within the program. The survey results show that the PIBID is a program that helps on the initial and continuing teachers formation, still bringing other contributions, being the supervisor a fundamental key for program execution, combining theory and practice, beyond teaching and learning, both for work in school as in contribution for the graduate students.Item type:Item, Crianças da zona rural e a escola urbana : experiências e significados construídos com uma turma do 3° ano do ensino fundamental(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2016-02-15) ;Zanotto, Luana ;Alves, Fernando Donizete ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/3812723309905378https://lattes.cnpq.br/9718778267626503The reproduction of 'urban x rural' hierarchy is filled from the stigmatizing understanding that living in rural areas is social and cultural inferior. According to this, with the increasing insertion of children from rural area to urban schools, it is inevitable that such an understanding pervades school relations, reinforcing mystified aspects about this population. If school operates as a stage of social relations and children as protagonists, how do they mean their experiences in urban school scenery? Under this question, the object is to understand how children of rural areas mean their experiences in a Municipal Elementary School, located in the urban area of a city in São Paulo. Participative observations were conducted in each part of the school and registered as field diaries, with a third grade group of eighteen children, and the classroom and Physical Education teachers. In addition to the participative observations, circles of conversation were conducted with the children. From the attentive and patient listening to the voices of them, the data analysis indicated that the school timings and spaces exceeded the impregnated speeches of stereotypical ideal to the rural subjects, because with the contact with and among children, the articulation of elements from both cultures, rural and urban, was present. Through the fluidity of affective relationships, the children showed to mean the school as a space to improve knowledge necessary for adult life, as well as a place to win friends, play and enjoy time better. It was realized in the relation of the teachers that some pedagogical deeds and practices still need to be contextualized to the reality of the children, considering them as concrete subjects, holders of childhood knowledge and skill. It is concluded that the being in school is for the children a possibility to build up shared and permissible practices of creation and re- signification of experiences, especially away from adult eyes.
