The changes in society are noticeable in the face of the evolution of science and technology. These transformations became much more noticeable with the abrupt change from in-person teaching to emergency remote teaching (ERE) during the pandemic and social isolation. This change in the way of teaching has caused education systems to resort to digital culture as a strategy for the continuity of the educational process. This context caused anguish, however, new experiences and knowledge were acquired. This research analyzed the possible implications of digital culture and teaching during the pandemic on the pedagogical practice of teachers in Professional and Technological Education (EPT), specifically at the Federal Institute of São Paulo (IFSP). From this investigation, it was possible to identify how scientific research discusses the evolution of digital culture in EPT; teaching perceptions about digital culture and its implications in the teaching-learning process; the possible implications of digital culture from emergency remote teaching; and made it possible to identify some of the positive and negative aspects inherited from this intense process of immersion in digital culture. To achieve this objective, a methodological path was outlined consisting of: survey and bibliographic study; Systematic Literature Review (RSL); application of questionnaires and interviews; and data analysis. The initial results of the RSL indicate that the research carried out by the academy around digital culture and Professional and Technological Education covers the importance and use of TDIC for teaching; digital literacy and continuing teacher training for the teacher’s meaningful role in digital culture. Furthermore, for the need to develop research that guides successful experiences, dilemmas and difficulties in the interaction of digital culture and EPT; and the need for institutional encouragement to register and publicize these practices. The information obtained through questionnaires and interviews, applied in the second half of 2022, pointed to the formulation of institutional policies that cover teaching-learning processes in virtual formats; greater openness to distance education and hybrid learning; as well as the expansion of the continuing training policy that includes digital culture to raise teacher awareness of the intersections between education, technologies and new forms of work. In essence, despite the compulsory and improvised context of implementing emergency remote teaching at IFSP, hybrid teaching was strengthened, the appropriation of strategies supported by TDIC was popularized and movements to change the mentality of teachers were noticed. However, resistance persists in the use of virtual formats in the teaching-learning process.

A skill that is becoming increasingly relevant in today’s society, with technological advances and the increasing digitalization of several areas is Computational Thinking, which has been considered a fundamental skill to understand and deal with technology effectively. It is an increasingly relevant competence in the current context, as it enables people to face technological challenges and to make decisions faced in a digital world in constant evolution. Computational Thinking is an interdisciplinary approach that links mathematical concepts with real-world experiences. It can be used in conjunction with basic education subjects, following the competences proposed by the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). Computational Thinking involves solving problems, designing systems and understanding human behavior. Several studies examined examined the applications of Computational Thinking in teaching, showing several possibilities for this insertion, focusing on the disciplines of Mathematics and Physics. Although most studies relate Computational Thinking to programming, there is evidence of the benefits of Computational Thinking in subjects other than programming, such as Mathematics, although these are mainly observed empirically and subjectively. Currently, Computational Thinking teaching strategies are often adopted without a systematized approach to assist teachers in introducing these activities in the context of Mathematics teaching. This work proposes the application of the concepts and pillars of Computational Thinking in the resolution of problems of Mathematics Olympiads, with the objective of verifying if the students can create their own solutions and providing guidelines for the creation of activities and exercises that incorporate Computational Thinking. During this work, a bibliographic survey was carried out regarding the authors and reference materials in the area; interventions in Olympic Nucleus classes; development of a guide for application in problem solving and mathematics olympiads and; the evaluation with specialists. This research aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of Computational Thinking in solving problems of Mathematical Olympiads by students of Basic Education, reviewing the state of the art through a bibliographical survey on Computational Thinking and tools available to insert in the resolution of questions of Mathematical Olympiads according to the educational process.

This study aims to investigate the formation of the theory of psychoses in Freud. Thus, in the first part of our research, we present aspects that demonstrate that the question of the genesis of psychoses is embedded in Freud's early investigations, starting from the phenomena of paranoia and hallucinatory confusion. Consequently, we highlight how the association between the origin of paranoia, the development of libido, and the concept of narcissism based on the Schreber Case assumes an important role within the theory of psychoses. Moving forward, our focus revolves around the analysis of the specificities that comprise the defense mechanism of psychoses and its conceptual reverberations concerning the rupture of the ego with objective reality, in light of the theorization of the second topic. Finally, we then propose a reflection on the relationship between psychoses and psychoanalytic treatment, drawing from certain concepts elements addressed throughout our research, which include the libidinal economy, the interplay between the death drive and psychoses, as well as the weakening of Ego (Ich) functions, with the aim of supporting the hypothesis that the economic expenditure of psychoses is an important key to understanding some of the impasses related to the psychoanalytic treatment of these cases.

In this study, a new perylene diimide ligand functionalized at the 1,7-bay positions with two pyrrolidine molecules and at the imide positions with 5,10-amino-phenanthroline (PDI-Py) and a new electron donor-acceptor dyad [Ru(phen)2(PDI-Py)]2+ (RuPDI-Py), where phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, was developed for potential applications in photomedicine by combining absorption and emission in the near-infrared region with the ability to generate singlet oxygen (1O2). The electrochemical, photophysical, and photochemical properties of the PDI-Py ligand and the RuPDI-Py dyad were investigated using steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopic techniques in organic solvents and water. The pyrrolidine substituent induced a shift in the absorption (720 nm) and fluorescence (767 nm, EM = 1.75 ns) to the near-infrared region of the PDI-Py ligand. In DMSO, the RuPDI-Py dyad preserved the absorption and fluorescence of the PDI-Py chromophore in the near-infrared region, whereas in the region between 350-550 nm there was an overlap of the absorption bands related to the 1*MLCT and S0→S2 electronic transitions of the chromophores [Ru(phen)3]2+ and PDI-Py, respectively, and the phosphorescence 3*MLCT was completely quenched. Transient absorption studies demonstrated that the excitation of the {Ru(phen)3} moiety in the dyad resulted in rapid photoinduced electron transfer (60 ps) between the constituent chromophores, generating the charge-separated intermediate {Ru3+-(PDI-Py●-) (4 μs) that decays to generate the long-lived triplet state 3*PDI-Py (36 μs), which can sensitize the formation of 1O2 (Δ = 0.40). In water, the RuPDI-Py dyad self-assembled into J-type molecular aggregates, which exhibited 1*PDI-Py fluorescence at 840 nm (τEM = 1.55 ns) and 3*MLCT phosphorescence at 620 nm (τEM = 1.3 μs). Furthermore, excitation of the {Ru(phen)3} moiety resulted in the formation of 3*PDI-Py (15 μs) and the generation of 1O2. The dependence of the photophysical properties of the RuPDI-Py dyad on the wavelength of the excitation light allowed modulation of its biological applications. Using 450 nm visible light, the dyad generated the cytotoxic species 1O2, which induced 100% inhibition of E. Coli colony growth at dyad concentrations above 2.5 μM after light treatment. In vitro studies with human melanoma cells of the MDA-MB-435 cell line demonstrated the photocytotoxicity of the dyad with an IC50 of 2.30 μM (PI > 108), indicating its potential application as a photosensitizer for antimicrobial and antitumor photodynamic therapy. In contrast, using light above 650 nm, only the fluorescence of the dyad in the near-infrared region was observed, which allowed monitoring of its cellular location preferentially in the cytoplasm of MDA-MB-435 cells, as well as monitoring the photoinduced damage by treatment with 450 nm light in cells and in mimetic models of phospholipid membranes, demonstrating the potential application of the dyad as a luminescent biomarker. Finally, polymeric polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers functionalized with the RuPDI-Py dyad were prepared using the electrospinning method and presented ideal characteristics to act as promising photoactive materials capable of generating 1O2 under irradiation with visible light for future applications in wound healing in the topical treatment of melanoma skin cancer.

The present research aims to investigate the professional development and performance of teachers in regular classrooms working with deaf students in the public elementary schools of Sorocaba County. The specific objectives encompass: identifying the number of regular teachers working with deaf students in municipal schools and, based on this information, conducting a questionnaire to understand the challenges faced by these teachers in this locality; characterizing the professional and academic profile of these educators; as well as understanding, through the teachers' accounts, how they perceive their professional development and performance, including the strategies employed, needs, and challenges of teaching deaf students in the public elementary schools. For this purpose, an online form was administered to regular teachers, involving 25 participants, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with four teachers. In general terms, the data obtained from the forms and interviews were similar, indicating the necessity and pursuit of continuous education to work effectively with deaf students. The challenges in their performance involve various aspects, notably the mastery of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras, Língua Brasileira de Sinais, em Português) and communication with deaf students, aiming to meet their specific needs. The teachers strive to overcome these difficulties, either with the assistance of interpreters and other specialized professionals or through individual strategies. The resources and strategies used in pedagogical action with these students are diverse, including information exchange and support from specialist colleagues. The needs for inclusion encompass areas such as teacher professional development, structural conditions, and working conditions in schools, as well as the participation and support of families in the work carried out with deaf students. The importance of prioritizing the professional development of teachers to work with deaf students in the early years is discussed because inclusive education is a fundamental right for all children, regardless of their abilities and needs. However, there is a consideration for the need to implement public policies that ensure ongoing professional development, meeting these principles while considering the formative demands and teaching work conditions in the current reality.

The journal is the most used means of communication by the scientific community due to its relevance and possibility of measuring scientific impact. In the current context, social media has been established as a locus of communication and sharing, it is understood that the use of social media has become a strategic activity for promoting scientific visibility. It is an activity related to digital marketing applied to scientific work, aiming to promote products and services. The present research aims to analyze the visibility of scientific communication in open access Brazilian scientific journals in the area of Information Science, indexed in the Information Science Reference Database (BRAPCI). This research is quantitative and qualitative in nature and uses bibliographical research for theoretical basis, also characterizing itself as exploratory research in relation to its objectives. After refinement, the corpus of analysis consisted of 37 journals that have a Qualis/Capes stratum in the area of Communication and Information. To investigate digital marketing and open access policies, the use of media to promote periodicals and articles and the editors' perception of these directions, the following sources and data collection instrument were used: the periodical websites, the Dimensions Analytics tool and journal editors. After triangulating the results, the study was able to identify that promoting the visibility of scientific journals is carried out through national and international sources and indexing tools; open access policies and digital scientific marketing actions, which are largely promoted through social media. The existence of digital marketing actions and strategies was verified in all journals, but these practices are not structured, with only one digital scientific marketing plan being identified on the journal websites. Given these results, it is understood that for greater credibility and more assertive results in promoting the visibility of these journals and their scientific articles, it is necessary that all dissemination actions and strategies are planned and formalized through digital scientific marketing.

Water scarcity and contamination of water bodies are relevant concerns in the present time. The utilization of microalgae represents a promising technology for enhancing domestic wastewater treatment processes and the production of compounds of interest such as lipids, carotenoids, and dyes. During the tertiary phase of effluent treatment, the use of microalgae primarily aims at the direct removal of nutrients such as phosphorus, nitrogen, and carbon through assimilation for biomass production. However, there are several obstacles that hinder the full integration of microalgae usage in wastewater treatment plants. This present study aimed to assess and enhance the photobioreactor developed by C4 Científica, with a focus on optimizing nutrient removal and biomass production. Batch experiments were conducted over periods ranging from seven to ten days, using different sewage sources and light conditions to quantify the removal of total nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon, as well as the biomass production of the microalga Chlorella sorokiniana. The modification of the photobioreactor led to a total nitrogen removal of 85% and a total phosphorus removal of 90%, along with a maximum biomass concentration of 325 mgL-1 of dry biomass. Furthermore, a 99% removal of colony-forming units of E. coli was achieved. The enhancement following the photobioreactor modification resulted in a 36% increase in biomass production, a reduction in the LOG phase, and improved consistency in the rates of total phosphorus and total nitrogen removal. The addition of 5% (V/V) CO2 did not show improvement in productive parameters or nutrient removal efficiency. The Photobioreactor exhibited a pronounced nutrient removal capacity and can be employed for wastewater polishing, making the effluents suitable for disposal into water bodies after treatment.

Amphibians are a group of vertebrates that have had a great decline in recent years due to the great anthropic interference in the environment, causing loss of habitat, inclusion of invasive species and the manifestation of diseases. These factors contributed to the extension of species and the decrease of different individuals. With these problems in mind, there is an increasing concern to conduct minimally invasive research, preserving the integrity and well-being of the specimens as much as possible, and providing quality research with satisfactory results. Therefore, for this master's thesis, a systematic review was carried out plus a scientometric analysis of scientific articles on alternative less invasive methods (which totaled 61 articles). In addition, an analysis was made of how portable glucometers can be adapted to studies with amphibians as a less invasive method for collecting blood glucose data as a potential biomarker indicative of stress. The systemic review revealed several areas of research in which alternative and less invasive methods have been applied in studies with amphibians, including molecular analyses, morphometric measurements, molecular analyses, and marking of individuals, imaging exams, even the reuse of carcasses of animals that were run over on roads to obtain biological certification. Despite the application of these methods, there is an urgent need for incentives for scientists to expand the adaptation of these methodologies in their studies, especially in the areas of environmental monitoring and ecotoxicology, in which the use of animal models is frequent. In the second chapter of the dissertation, the comparison between the blood glucose values between males and females of R.ictérica showed that there was no significant difference between the sexes for the values obtained through the portable glucometer (F = 1.15; p = 0.63 ), followed by the biochemical analytical method (F = 1.047; p = 0.66), indicating homogeneous glycemic values. When grouping the data of each as independent, the mean blood glucose values were similar (F = 1.050; p = 0.4819), which did not occur when dependent, showing difference in incidence (p < 0.0001; r = 0.979). Thus, it was shown that the glucometer is efficient, but tends to overestimate the glycemic levels.

In this research project, we investigate the method known as \textit{continuous dynamical decoupling}, which is based on the use of continuously applied external fields to maximize the fidelity of quantum logical operations performed on a qubit experiencing decoherence. In our model, we assume an open quantum system in which a qubit continuously interacts with its surroundings, and thus we say that the qubit is coupled to the environment, which irreversibly disturbs it, causing decoherence. The \textit{continuous dynamical decoupling} tells us that assuming a known error operator and an environment represented by a field of scalar bosons at a finite temperature, decoherence during logical operations can be efficiently reduced by applying a superposition of two external vector fields: one rotating orthogonally to the direction of the other, which remains static. The main objective of this project is to improve the method by finding optimized directions of external fields that, when continuously applied, maximize the fidelity of logical operations performed on a qubit. To achieve this, we will need to numerically solve the master equation of the system – where the external fields will be applied with variable directions (variable angles) during the optimization process – in order to find the best protective fields for a given logical operation. Finally, we present the results obtained for a qubit in an environment with ohmic spectral density and briefly discuss the findings.

It is common in the industrial and clinical context to seek more precision, accurate, accessible and cheaper equipments. Therefore, it is important for these fields to have a way to compare the agreement of new devices with one that already exists and that is assumed to be reliable and accurate. On the other hand, it is increasingly common that systems record data over time with a very fine discretization, creating functional data. Considering this scenario, we propose the approach “Predictive Probability of Functional Agreement” (PPFA), a technique for analyzing the concordance between functional data under a Bayesian perspective, which allows determining whether two systems can be used interchangeably (a nomenclature used in studies of comparison of measurement system). The PPFA generates an intuitive measure of agreement (the predictive probability) of the curves from a new subject (from both devices) differ by less than an acceptable amount for the field. An example of equipments that need further analysis on the degree of agreement are the Optotrak and the flexible electrogoniometer. These systems are used in gait studies. The Optotrak is a laboratory device and generates accurate data, while the electrogoniometer is an ambulatory and cheaper equipment than Optotrak. In order to carry out the comparison study between the Optotrak and the electrogoniometer with our Predictive Probability of Functional Agreement tool, we need to assume a model. Therefore, we present the Bayesian Functional Gaussian Process hierarchical model (BFGP). The PPFA is a simple and intuitive approach, while the BFGP is an easily interpreted model for the gait problem.

Considering diversity, it is very important to study and reflect about inclusion, the pedagogical practices involved, and especially to relate it to natural sciences and social and emotional competences. And, through the political decisions made as a result of the historical processes it is noted that inclusion is one of the challenges most loaded with individual and collective psychological aspects. In this context, a major challenge is to associate inclusive education with the natural science disciplines, while it is necessary to understand what factors may be linked to the problems faced in the classroom with students targeted for special education and link the so-called social and emotional competencies. For this reason, this project aims to investigate the implications/interferences of attitudinal barriers in the teaching-learning process of students in the area of natural sciences and how this reflects on the inclusion process. The research was carried out in a school of the Pirassununga Board of Education, with semi-structured interviews for the respective teachers and resource room teachers who accompany the student. The methodology will adopt qualitative exploratory research assumptions, using Descriptive Textual Analysis techniques to analyze the text corpus, which will consist of transcribed interviews. As a result, it is expected that the research can contribute in several aspects research in the area of education, making data available for new work in teacher training and inclusive education; Contact of different education professionals, who may reflect on the way they deal with inclusive education, reflecting on the influence of attitudinal barriers in everyday school life; Structure possible didactic material for natural sciences teachers regarding inclusive education (first edition), with topics ranging from theoretical and practical content to assessments; Production of knowledge in the area, and articles to be published in scientific events and/or journals, to supply the lack of research in the area, as pointed out throughout the dissertation.

This context can be harmful to students' mental health, making it necessary to promote health care practices. Meditation is a practice that can improve everyday life. Objectives: this study aimed to systematize the experience of creating and conducting a meditation project offered between 2018 and 2023; analyze the experience as a group device, meeting, learning, and welcoming, considering professional training in occupational therapy degree. Methodology: a qualitative study with an autobiographical approach was conducted using narrative and reflective descriptions. The analysis of the experience was performed using references from the Encounter Group (by Carl Rogers) and the Operative Group (by Enrique Pichon-Rivière). Results: the narrative made it possible to recall events, records, and photos based on the construction of a timeline containing professional training movements during graduation, in-depth studies in the field, and the process of meditation meetings. The Presença Project emerged from individual initiatives and collective interests in meditation in the university environment. Studies on meditation techniques were sought to support the continuity of meetings over time. During the project, the initiative was expanded to other contexts. Discussion: In association with Pichon’s inverted cone learning process, aspects of care that contributed to the learning of meditative techniques were identified, such as the environment, group management, relevance of events, moments of sharing, and interpersonal cooperation. The development of empathy, congruence, and unconditional acceptance (Rogers) were fundamental in allowing the group to be led with more freedom and intuition, based on personal and undergraduate life experiences. Conclusion: The training process in occupational therapy contributed to the foundation of knowledge about group theories, therapeutic bond construction, and the development of a singularized care process. Institutional support, such as research support grants, favored dedication to deepening studies and improving the project. In this case, it was observed that groupality is composed of a constant interaction within the person, group, and coordination. In the case of the Presença Project, meditation was a determining factor in forming bases for bonding, groupality, and the development of care strategies in the university daily context.

TEACHING TOOLS IN THE CONCEPT OF NANOTECHNOLOGY IN BASIC EDUCATION. Nanotechnology has a high impact on people's quality of life, being present in the development of clean energy, more efficient mobile devices, the treatment of diseases, the production of prosthetics, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, among others. However, the clarity and understanding with which this topic has been discussed in the media is questioned, so the aim is to clarify whether this knowledge is being announced to students in a way that is dissociated from their reality. It is also clear that despite the large amount of information available, quality is sometimes lacking in its preparation, failing to highlight fundamental points, such as its definition, impacts and relevance for the development of society. Therefore, through this work, it is proposed to apply a didactic sequence to a class of high school students from a public school in São Paulo, in order to verify their level of knowledge and familiarity with the topic of N&N, and also, teach basic and fundamental concepts regarding nanometric materials, their benefits and risks, advantages and disadvantages of their applications, seeking to encourage the development of a critical opinion based on scientific knowledge. To achieve this, this sequence was carried out in four classes, the first being a diagnostic assessment and debate, the second a demonstrative experimental practice, the third constitutes a presentation of student seminars on N&N applications, and the fourth was a final questionnaire on the content covered in the classes taught. It was concluded that students' knowledge about nanotechnology and nanoscience is still superficial, despite the profusion of currently existing technological applications and their dissemination in the media. Furthermore, there is a lack of cohesion in the writing and interpretation of texts in their responses and there is great difficulty in assimilating associated chemical concepts, so that a greater focus in future work on reading and the development of formal and chemical writing is suggested.

The urbanization of cities increases as climate disruptions occur at the local scale. Therefore, it is considered important to study the dynamics of cities and the relationship between the urban climate, since it is on this scale that profound transformations take place. In view of this, this work aimed to analyze the surface heat islands and the urban canopy layer in Sorocaba/SP, based on the classification of LCZs in the municipality. The following methodologies were used: detection of surface heat islands through thermal images from the Landsat 8 satellite, definition of LCZs through the LCZ generating system, measurement of air temperature and relative air humidity through mobile transects and categorization of intensities of climatic heat islands. The results demonstrated that surface heat islands and climatic heat islands of fragility, medium and strong magnitudes occur in compact lowrise LCZs (LCZ3) throughout the urban patch. It was concluded that there are heat islands in Sorocaba.

In Brazil, one of the biggest cultural movements of peripheral youth in the 20th and 21st centuries is Funk, which emerged from urban popular culture, mainly in the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The funk movement aims to contest and challenge the hegemonic system, through music, dance, “dances” and its own aesthetics, evidenced by clothes, haircuts and accessories, popularly called “kit”. The central figure of funk culture is the boy, black, poor and from the favelas, who, contrary to the silencing structure in which he is daily inferiorized and segregated, through funk performance in search of protagonism. This protagonism can be read concretely in most funk lyrics. We could affirm that through funk, these young people exercise their cultural citizenship rights on a daily basis, as Chauí (2008) has proposed, as they actively insert themselves in their territories, produce themselves as subjects and invent forms of social participation in cultural circuits and politicians. This research aims to understand how black, peripheral and funk culture has produced the possibility of existence, creation and transformation of realities. As well as highlighting how the production of mental health occurs in this context, understanding here, mental health not as the absence of a disorder or illness, but as the experience of citizenship itself, subjectivation and the possibility of existing and creating new experiences and spaces of belonging in the world, that is, in the sense of the collective production of subjectivity. For this, methodologically, intervention research was used, with cartographic reference based on the interview technique to produce data in dialogue with the concept of Writing by the author Conceição Evaristo. Six self-declared young participants, black, peripheral and funk fans, were interviewed. The results were presented based on eight dimensions: (1) characterization of participants, (2) Conceptions of mental health, (3) Black emotionality, (4) Memories, belongings and records, (5) Collective and political action, ( 6) the body, corporeality and the aesthetic dimension, (7) Racism and everyday life and (8) Negritude, funk and the field of mental health. It concludes that the field of mental health is urgently positioned to contribute to the promotion of racial equity and the deinstitutionalization of racism, which David and Vicentin (2020) called the Aquilombamento process. In this sense, funk cultural production needs to be highlighted in this field, since it presents itself as a powerful expression of the ethical, aesthetic and political dimensions of the mental health of the young black Brazilian population, and points us to clues for the production of care practices and of social transformation.

The Brazilian Atlantic Forest (BAF) is globally recognized as a biodiversity hotspot, harboring high species richness and endemicity while suffering from intense anthropogenic threat. Three Pleistocene climate refuge centers are recognized in this biome: São Paulo, Bahia and Pernambuco. However, rapid contemporary climate change associated with other anthropogenic activities reduces species distribution area, impacting species richness, and may result in the extinctions of many species. To understand the responses of medium and large mammals of the BAF to climate change, we built species distribution models and compared species richness and endemicity for the past (21 000 years ago), present and future (2081-2100). We also examined the potential change in distribution between the present and the future in each of the BAF refugia. To understand the evolutionary history of the communities, we calculated the phylogenetic diversity of each refuge. We observed patterns of contemporary richness and areas of endemism congruent with the areas of the Pleistocene refugia. Phylogenetic diversity revealed different evolutionary histories in each refuge and the presence of phylogenetically distant species in the area of lowest richness (Pernambuco refuge), indicating that ecological diversity may be preserved. Our results highlight the widespread and negative impacts of climate change on mammal distribution. The species distribution modeling approach requires accurate and reliable species identification and occurrence data. Many mammal species, especially carnivores, occur at low densities, which makes them difficult to detect and study. Through a systematic literature review we explored how fecal DNA, a noninvasive sampling approach, has been used to study carnivore species considered rare. We investigated the applications and techniques that have been employed, the sampling effort required and the efficacy of fecal DNA in detecting rare carnivores. We compiled data from 250 papers and found that fecal DNA is a valuable source of genetic material for determining species, individual identity, and sex, among other applications. Fecal DNA was found to be more and equally efficient in determining the number of individuals and species present, respectively, compared to alternative methods. Among the three BAF refugia, the Pernambuco Endemism Center (PEC) or Pernambuco refuge deserves to be highlighted for its smaller area, scarce studies, and intense anthropogenic threat, resulting in habitat loss, fragmentation, and degradation. Therefore, it is essential to determine the efficiency of sampling methods to produce rapid and reliable assessments. We compared five noninvasive survey methods to assess the medium-sized mammal community in a forest fragment immersed in a sugarcane matrix. We identified thirteen species and discussed the results in relation to the group of species detected, the proportional detection success and the latency to first detection of each method. We expanded the molecular identification of feces to six important areas of the PEC in the state of Alagoas searching for native Canidae and Felidae species. We identified two species: Leopardus tigrinus and Cedocyon thous. The results show the usefulness of fecal DNA sampling for detecting rare species, such as L. tigrinus, but also reinforce the process of defaunation in the region. The findings in each of these chapters are relevant to the conservation of mammals in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, shedding light on strategies and actions that can be taken to preserve the biological diversity of this ecosystem.
