This study examines Total Factor Productivity (TFP) and GHG emissions in Brazilian municipalities from 2006 to 2017. It compares standard TFP measures with those considering GHG emissions, finding lower growth and efficiency in the latter. TFP growth didn't lead to emissions reduction; 65% of municipalities didn't control emissions while improving productivity. The study also highlights the need to monitor environmental efficiency in Brazilian agriculture, a topic overlooked in existing literature.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Exploring the potential of ruthenium(II)-phosphine-mercapto complexes as new anticancer agents(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024) Mello, Marcos Vinícius Palmeira de; Costa, Analu Rocha; Oliveira, Leticia Pires de; Blacque, Olivier; Gasser, Gilles; Batista, Alzir Azevedo; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8894654634441028; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7671795526066456; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1757837020498375; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6469642481998660; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2550-5315; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9857-4042; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4244-5097The search for new metal-based anticancer drug candidates is a fundamental task in medicinal inorganic chemistry. In this work, we assessed the potential of two new Ru(II)–phosphine–mercapto complexes as potential anticancer agents. The complexes, with the formula [Ru(bipy)(dppen)(Lx)]PF6 [(1), HL1 = 2-mercapto–pyridine and (2), HL2 = 2-mercapto–pyrimidine, bipy = 2,2’-bipyridine, dppen = cis-1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)- ethylene] were synthesized and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) [1H, 31P(1H), and 13C], high resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS), cyclic voltammetry, infrared and UV-Vis spectroscopies. Complex 2 was obtained as a mixture of two isomers, 2a and 2b, respectively. The composition of these metal complexes was confirmed by elemental analysis and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). To obtain insights into their lipophilicity, their distribution coefficients between n-octanol/PBS were determined. Both complexes showed affinity mainly for the organic phase, presenting positive log P values. Also, their stability was confirmed over 48 h in different media (i.e., DMSO, PBS and cell culture medium) via HPLC, UV-Vis and 31P{1H} NMR spectroscopies. Since enzymes from the P-450 system play a crucial role in cellular detoxification and metabolism, the microsomal stability of 1, which was found to be the most interesting compound of this study, was investigated using human microsomes to verify its potential oxidation in the liver. The analyses by LC-MS and ESI-MS reveal three main metabolites, obtained by oxidation in the dppen and bipy moieties. Moreover, 1 was able to interact with human serum albumin (HSA). The cytotoxicity of the metal complexes was tested in different cancerous and non-cancerous cell lines. Complex 1 was found to be more selective than cisplatin against MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells when compared to MCF-10A non-cancerous cells. In addition, complex 1 affects cell morphology and migration, and inhibits colony formation in MDA-MB-231 cells, making it a promising cytotoxic agent against breast cancer.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Do young women have an accurate perception about their pelvic floor muscle contraction? An agreement study about self-perception and physical evaluation of the pelvic muscle contraction by the PERFECT scheme(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024) Silva, Jordana Barbosa da; Zanello, Sara Campana; Jorge, Cristine Homsi; Driusso, Patricia; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8898319491890063; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6419640145149798; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6601109315630157; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8067-9786; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9867-3788; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4956-4611Many women have difficulty in activating the pelvic floor muscles (PFM). This is a concerning factor for health professionals and public government institutions, as an unhealthy PFM could be associated with the presence of PFM dysfunctions. Therefore, the aim of the study was to analyze the agreement between the perception of young women about their PFM contraction and the results of a physical assessment, according to the strength, endurance, and contraction repetitions. Method: Cross-sectional study with 43 university students between 18 to 35 years old. Examiner A filled out a semi-structured questionnaire to assess the self-perception of the ability to contract the PFM. The physical exam was performed by bidigital vaginal palpation, conducted by Examiner B blinded to the answers of the previous stage, and according to the PERFECT scheme (P = power; E = endurance; R = repetitions of item “E;” F = fast contractions). Data was assessed by the Cohenʼs linear weighted kappa (Kw). Results: The agreement between the self-perception and the physical evaluation of the PFM function presented a very poor agreement for all the items of the PERFECT scheme (P(Kw)= 0.12; E(Kw)= 0.07; R(Kw)= 0.09; F(Kw)= 0.04). Conclusion: Young women do not have sufficient knowledge about PFM contraction and function. It should concern health government and institutions, as a poor PFM awareness might increase the difficulty to identify signs and symptoms related to PFM dysfunctions and reduces demand for and adherence to PFM treatment programslistelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Relato de três casos: uma reflexão sobre o contato com a pesquisa científica durante a graduação em medicina(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024) Sartoreli, Ana Luiza Carvalho; Nasser, Michel; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1629054550833348; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3087-9784; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9112075155856427; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0424-637XScientific research plays a fundamental role in the health field. In this context, the practice of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) has become increasingly popular, proposing to integrate the best available scientific evidence into clinical practice. This concept has also been included in the curricula of medical schools, aiming to train professionals familiar with the process of seeking and critically applying scientific evidence in their healthcare practice. This topic can be approached in various ways during the course, including student participation in scientific production, for example. This graduation thesis reflects on and discusses different ways in which a medical student at the Federal University of São Carlos can engage in scientific research, based on three experiential accounts, and how this positively impacts their professional development.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Espectroscopia de onda difusa em uma nuvem de átomos frios(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024) Coelho, Daniel Siqueira; Teixeira, Raul Celistrino; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6108339817883159; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8358-861X; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2084288682308416; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3742-9164In the field of light-matter interaction using a dense cloud of cold atoms, this project aims to apply diffusing wave spectroscopy (DWS) techniques based on the coupled dipole model to understand the relevance of short-range terms in the dipolar interatomic interaction of light scattering. In this project, we will study it through a numerical simulation using MATLAB software, starting from the creation of the cold atoms sample and analyzing the first-order temporal autocorrelation function. The simulation will analyze the dependence on the optical depth and the spatial density. This will allow to understand the phenomena associated with light scattering in dense samples, and may be applied in a future experiment. The results indicate that, for regimes of low optical depth and low spatial density, single scattering is dominant, while for high densities and optical depths, collective effects become more relevant. The work concludes that the DWS technique can provide important information about light scattering in a cloud of cold atoms, highlighting the need for further studies to explore its effects in regimes of high spatial density and high optical depth.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Raw data on metal accumulation and genotoxic, mutagenic, and physiological biomarkers in bullfrog tadpoles exposed to settleable atmospheric particulate matter (SePM)(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024-01-01) Costa, Regiane Luiza da; Monteiro, Diana Amaral; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2901217355687853; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0358411551730768; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8250-8593; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1178-6673listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Depois da bagunça da Cachinhos Dourados: criação de uma continuação da história para a educação em ciências com crianças(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024) Pacolla, Júlia Stradioto; Milaré, Tathiane; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1180653361825304; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4030661520659155; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2327-3645; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6557-1769O ensino de química, no contexto da educação em ciências, tem pouco enfoque nos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental I, sendo um dos motivos a especificidade da área. Here, we describe the implementation of CURE in an upper-level inorganic chemistry course, in which students were assigned different current themes to study. This paper focuses on the theme of quantum dots, highlighting how guidance, inquiry, and research were integrated into the classroom. The quantum dots theme introduced various concepts to students such as electron−hole pairs, band gaps, particle capping, doping, and size effects. A questionnaire distributed among the students revealed that the continuation of their research throughout the semester kept them engaged, and they maintained a high level of interest in the subject. The success of CURE in this course is revealed, as the instructor and professor will maintain this approach in the next semesters.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, International Student Mobility as a promoter of educational and institutional ties: the case of the Confucius Institutes in Brazil(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024) Martinelli, Marina; Andrade, Thales Haddad Novaes de; Furnival, Ariadne Chloe Mary; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9368198175936317; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5882842888759363; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1291482506649810Abstract: This article uses the social studies of science and technology (STS) analytical framework. In February 2014, it was hit by a major flood, which left the community completely submerged for about four months, causing both material and symbolic losses. This event occurred during the same time frame as the implementation of two environmentally impactful projects: the Santo Antônio and Jirau Hydroelectric Power Plants (HPPs). The primary objective of the research was to analyze the educational processes emerging from social practice through the collective memories of this environmental disaster, by capturing oral accounts from people who experienced and continue to experience the flood. The secondary objectives were: I) to contribute to the advancement of the oral history of the 2014 flood in the lower Madeira River region; II) to clarify the ways in which Individual Memory and Collective Memory intertwine in the process of reconstructing lived experiences; III) and to identify the emotional costs of the flood, understanding what community members did during the event, what they wanted to do, and what they believed they were doing. The adopted methodology was based on memory studies, including fieldwork (2022), with a dialogical, careful, and respectful approach to popular education and culture, involving the participation of fourteen riverside residents who experienced the 2014 flood (with a diverse sample). For methodological support, a guide with Oral History Techniques was created. The data collection instruments used were semi-structured individual interviews (recorded and transcribed) and direct observations (recorded in field diaries). Through Data Analysis and the Analyzed Results, it was possible to access the collective memories of this episode, contributing to the historical record of the 2014 flood, including: the collective memories of receiving the news of the flood; the elders who had never experienced such a flood; those who remained in the community during the flood; the sheltering in schools in Porto Velho; the return to the community; their thoughts on the influence of the HPPs; the material and symbolic losses; the insecurities; the sorrows; the strategies for overcoming the flood; the “New São Carlos” Project; and finally, the collective memories of learning from the flood. From the learning process, the social practices of resistance and the fight for the (re)rooting of the São Carlos do Jamari (RO) riverside community after the flood are identified, and the educational processes revealed are related to unity, cooperation, and a sense of community in reorganizing the community by cleaning and removing the mud, so that they could not only have a place to live again, but also possess a counter-argument to compel public agencies—who had denied financial assistance to reconnect electricity, water, and other basic services—to resume operations and recognize the territory.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Percepção ambiental e seu conteúdo mínimo para transformações socioambientais: estudo de caso em São Francisco Xavier, distrito de São José dos Campos, SP(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024) Prado, Amanda; Gonçalves, Juliano Costa; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1803562162325019; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7004358864086551Understanding the influences that act on the relationship between human beings and the environment, aiming at adjusting individual and collective behaviors to change the development paradigm in favor of socio-environmental sustainability, is essential to face the current socio-environmental crisis. In this context, Environmental Perception is an important ally of the government in interpreting social reality, configuring itself as a means of supporting Environmental Management, especially in Protected areas of Sustainable Use, where more consistent efforts are needed to combine conservation and environmental management. To deepen and improve knowledge on how environmental perception can be used for this purpose, this thesis was developed in the protected area of São Francisco Xavier. We present five analytical concepts and four key terms that guide the analysis of Environmental Perception in Protected Areas such as the area studied. The analytical concepts are: historicity, identity, memory, imaginary and territoriality. The key terms are: protected area, environment, tourism and development. We conducted bibliographic and documentary research, observation, semi-structured interviews and photo documentation to illustrate the thesis. The differences in environmental perception of new and old residents were analyzed. Content Analysis (CA) was used on the data obtained together with the analytical concepts and key terms of the theoretical framework. It was noted that there is a more conspicuous socio-environmental conflict, which is territorial and that influences the identity and belonging of residents. We propose Environmental Management and Governance measures to mitigate conflicts within this dynamic. In addition, we propose a link between Environmental perception, Cultural Values of Nature and Collaborative Conservation, as areas of study that are connected at their core, and innovative solutions can emerge if worked together and in harmony in this context.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Conlang na escola: a escrita e a oralidade de línguas inventadas(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024) Morgon, Beatriz Habara; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2939488395789125
