We observed that the model exhibits a continuous phase transition from the symmetric to the non-symmetric phase. We used the theoretical framework of critical phenomena as an analytical tool to explore the system stability in the vicinity of the critical point, allowing the calculation of the critical exponents. This research is important for a better understanding of the intricate behaviors and patterns observed in this type of system, and contributes significantly to the general field of complex systems research. Furthermore, this work established a link between the theory of critical phenomena and the dynamics of the RPS model, focusing on the emergence of critical behavior and the conditions that led to criticality and the characterization of the universality class. In summary, although it has been possible to obtain the critical exponents of the Rock-Paper-Scissors (RPS) model, the specific identification of its universality class remains unclear. This limitation results from the priority given in this thesis to the development of advanced methods capable of extracting significant information from the critical behavior of systems not directly related to thermodynamics. Nevertheless, obtaining the critical exponents is already an interesting achievement that emphasizes the unexplored potential of the RPS model. Receiving a diagnosis of an Inflammatory Bowel Disease is complex. But after all, how is it possible to lead a “normal” life, exercising my old roles in society, before the diagnosis? Did this whirlwind of emotions, fears and anxieties happen to all patients? How and in which space could I be heard without prejudice and judgment about my new life? Facebook has been a platform for people residing on the network that allows for the existence of a large number of communities designed to discuss issues related to health, making it necessary to understand how they work and how the information obtained is used. Thus, the main contribution of this study was to present the basic characteristics of support groups for patients with Crohn's Disease, focusing on users and their posts. An exploratory research was carried out focused on identifying discussion groups on Facebook regarding Crohn's Disease. As they are closed communities, two groups were selected, one consisting of more than 2,700 average members by a doctor specializing in inflammatory bowel diseases and the other consisting of a high number of members, of more than 14,600, therefore, the choice was made. Based on the criteria of visibility and empirical research. Data collection corresponded to the period from December 2022 to March 2023. Discourse analysis of posts and comments from the two secret groups was used as a data collection instrument. This research includes several themes related to patients' use of Facebook that can support self-management of the disease. In both groups, the most discussed topics in the posts were medications, symptoms and exams. However, due to the refinement of the microstructure of cementitious composites provided by SBAS, it is important to evaluate the shrinkage behavior of these matrices, since this process tends to be more pronounced in denser cementitious matrices. Thus, this study evaluated plastic, autogenous, and drying shrinkage, as well as the physical-mechanical properties of mortars containing 30% SBAS replacing fine aggregate with three types of Superabsorbent Polymers (SAPs), materials explored as agents of internal curing, and two types of cement (CP V ARI and CP III). The most significant results in the presence of only SBAS, without polymers, were the reduction of 18.10% (CP V ARI) and 18.48% (CP III) of autogenous shrinkage. The SAP that promoted the greatest reduction in the average crack thickness indicated a decrease of 81.92% and 39.88%, with the CP V ARI and CP III cement, respectively, in the plastic shrinkage test. Additionally, the effectiveness of SAPs as internal curing agents was observed, especially in the presence of CP III cement, reducing autogenous shrinkage by up to 119.19%. About drying shrinkage, only the SAP with the lowest absorption capacity indicated a significant reduction (24.78%), with CP III cement. No negative influence of SAPs was detected in the flexural strength test. However, SAP with intermediate absorption capacity provided a reduction of 19% (CP V ARI) and 28.55% (CP III) in compressive strength. To limit its spread, several approaches based on social distancing were adopted by governments and industries, which affected companies and their supply chains. The COVID-19 outbreak has entailed human, technological, and managerial constraints for manufacturing companies due to scarce resources or supply chain disruptions. This thesis aims to investigate the role of LM and Industry 4.0 during major breakdowns and present the legacy of COVID-19 on operations management. To achieve this goal a survey, systematic literature review (SLR), and semi-structured interviews with industry practitioners was carried out. In empirical research, we investigate the role of lean manufacturing (LM) and Industry 4.0 to improve the company’s response and resilience in times of unprecedented crisis. We use structural equation modeling with partial least squares estimation (PLS-SEM) to analyze the data collected. Our findings show that companies’ operational responses to COVID-19 can enable manufacturers to mitigate the loss of performance; operational performance can be enhanced by developing Industry 4.0 smart capabilities and LM practices. We demonstrate that Industry 4.0 initiatives support manufacturing companies’ flexibility, agility, and responsiveness in COVID-19 context. Besides, we discuss the emerging themes during the pandemic while presenting a proposition for future research. This study can help managers achieve performance stability during disruptive times, such as the COVID-19 crisis, using Industry 4.0 or LM to make their companies responsive and resilient.
