Obsessive neurosis is a condition in which individuals experience intrusive and unwanted thoughts, known as obsessions, that generate significant anxiety and discomfort. In some cases, to alleviate this anxiety, they perform repetitive, ritualized behaviors called compulsions. However, these compulsions are usually not pleasurable in themselves, but are performed as an attempt to neutralize or avoid the obsessions and reduce associated anxiety. Based on clinical observations, Freud considered defense as the nuclear point in the psychic mechanism of neuroses, closely linking this clinical picture with the dimension of thought. Among the most striking aspects, there is the predominance of reason, lack of affection and a severe ethical sensitivity. This monograph aims to understand how the clinical fact of the predominance of the sphere of thought over affective life in obsessional neurosis is described, and how this phenomenon is linked to the psychic dynamics of the obsessive subject. With this, we seek to identify how excessive intellectualization can harm analytical treatment, and how the technique should be modified in order to deal with this phenomenon.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the concept of ambivalence in Freud's second drive theory. As ambivalence characterizes the simultaneous presence of feelings of love and hate toward the same object, these were the signs used to trace ambivalence. The investigation is structured into three dimensions: drive, cultural, and Oedipal. The first chapter addresses the conflict between life drives and death drives as a possible expression of ambivalence. The second chapter deals with drive dispositions based on cultural demands. The third chapter explores ambivalence in its Oedipal dimension.

Dating violence is highly prevalent throughout the world and is associated with various damages to mental health, being considered a strong predictor of marital violence. Taking into account the relationship found by some studies between certain components of emotional intelligence and violence in young people's dating relationships, the present study aimed to verify the relationship between emotional intelligence and violence received, exercised and perceived by young people in their dating relationships. The instruments used were the socioeconomic and dating characterization questionnaire, the Received, Exerted and Perceived Violence Scale in Youth and Adolescent Dating Relationships (VERA) and the Emotional Skills Inventory (ICE). A sample of 105 young Brazilians aged 18 to 30 was analyzed in the research, 72.4% female, 21.9% male, 4.8% non-binary and 1% non-labelled. Significant negative correlations, from slight to medium, were observed between specific and general factors of emotional intelligence and different types of violence received and exercised. Significant positive correlations, from slight to medium, were found between specific and general EI factors and the level of perception of different types of violence among young people in their dating relationships. The results obtained are important, as they can bring new perspectives on psychological care approaching emotions for the prevention of dating violence and for the treatment of individuals who have been or are currently in a violent dating relationship.

Slam is a poetry battle that originated in the USA in the 1980s and was originally performed in spoken languages through poetry spoken a cappella. It has spread to other countries. In Brazil, more recently, a trend has emerged in the Deaf Community: signed poetry in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) performed by Deaf slammers or duet performances, with signing by the deaf person and vocalization or vocalization/signing of the poetry by the hearing interpreter poet, making the performance a presentation composed in two languages, Libras and Portuguese. The general objective of this work is to discuss the particularities, challenges and experiences of bilingual duets (Portuguese - Libras) in slam from the perspectives of a Deaf slammer poet and a hearing interpreter poet who have already performed/perform in slam. The specific objectives of this research are: (i) to analyze how duet performances in slam are constructed; (ii) to assess the social context in which duet slam is found concomitantly in the universe of deaf culture; (iii) to discuss the characteristics that differentiate slam performance from other artistic spheres; and (iv) to highlight the perceptions of deaf and hearing individuals regarding the topic. The research is qualitative in nature and adopts a focus group with people who work in the genre as a methodology, aiming to map and describe their professional experiences and specificities of slam performance. The corpus was constructed through a remote meeting with the two group participants. The research is based on a Bakhtinian analysis focusing on discussions of the sociocultural and historical importance in the process of constructing performances and the professionals involved, inserted in the slam movements and the deaf community.

The degradation of tropical forests, especially in riparian areas, compromises biodiversity and the ability of these ecosystems to provide essential services, such as nutrient cycling and water regulation. Forest restoration appears as a fundamental strategy to reverse this situation, but the complete recovery of ecological processes requires the rehabilitation of not only vegetation, but also soil fauna. This study aimed to evaluate the structure and diversity of soil macrofauna in a recovering riparian forest in the rural area of São Carlos, SP, after the implementation of an ecological restoration project. To this end, macroinvertebrates were collected using pitfall traps in three types of land use: pasture, area under restoration and forest remnants. Abundance, taxonomic richness and ecological indices, such as Shannon's index and Simpson's dominance index, were calculated to compare the different areas. The results indicated greater evenness and diversity in areas of remaining forest and restoration compared to pasture, highlighting the role of vegetation in increasing habitat complexity and in the recovery of soil fauna. The composition of soil macrofauna proved to be a sensitive indicator of the effectiveness of restoration practices, suggesting that macroinvertebrates can be used as bioindicators to monitor the success of ecological restoration projects.

This study examines the challenges associated with the inclusion of students with visual impairments in higher education, with a particular focus on the pedagogical practices of faculty members in the Biological Sciences program at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). The research aims to analyze the methodologies and strategies employed by professors in the context of inclusive education, based on interviews conducted with three faculty members, identified as E1, E2, and E3. The study adopts the Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA) method to explore the participants' perceptions regarding their professional training and the institutional support available to them. The findings reveal that, despite institutional efforts toward inclusion, many faculty members lack adequate training, which impairs the effective implementation of inclusive pedagogical practices. The primary challenges reported include insufficient continuous professional development, inadequate communication between university departments, and a lack of technical and pedagogical support. Among the solutions proposed by the participants are the development of targeted training programs, the establishment of more effective communication channels, and the expansion of institutional support, including the presence of trained assistants or monitors to aid students with visual impairments. The study underscores the need for curricular reforms to enhance teacher education programs, ensuring they better address the demands of inclusive education and thereby promote the democratization of access to higher education.

Introduction: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are alterations in the masticatory and/or cervical structures that can cause temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain and otological symptoms, primarily affecting adult women. Individuals with TMD associated with otological symptoms have reduced muscle control of the deep cervical flexors compared to individuals with TMD without otological complaints. Studies show that cervical muscle exercises help reduce TMD symptoms. However, studies demonstrating the effects of cervical exercises on TMD-related otological symptoms are needed. Furthermore, recent evidence highlights the potential of aerobic exercise for reducing TMD-related symptoms. However, there is a gap in the literature regarding the effects of cervical and aerobic exercises on the otological symptoms of individuals with TMD. Objective: To evaluate the additional effects of aerobic exercise in addition to cervical exercises on the otological symptoms of women with TMD. Methods: A randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted with adult women (18 to 55 years old) diagnosed with TMD (DC/TMD) and complaining of otological symptoms. The women were randomly divided into two groups: cervical spine exercises group (CG) and cervical spine exercises combined with aerobic exercise group (CSA). The groups underwent treatment for eight weeks, twice a week. The intensity of otological symptoms (dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus, otalgia, aural fullness, and hearing loss) were assessed using a numerical scale (0 to 10), the impact of tinnitus (Dizziness Handicap Inventory), and the impact of dizziness on quality of life (Tinnitus Handicap Inventory). The general linear model of repeated measures was used to compare the effects between groups and between pre- and post-treatment. A 95% confidence interval and p < 0.05 were adopted as a significant difference. Results: There was a significant reduction in the intensity of all otological symptoms in both groups after treatment (p < 0.001), with no difference between groups. For the THI, there was a significant difference between pre-treatment (CG 24.53  18.92; GCA 25.85  12.39) and post-treatment (CG 9.86  12.59; GCA 19.71  18.79) in both groups. However, there was no difference between the groups (p = 0.127). For the DHI, there was no significant difference between pre-treatment and post-treatment in either group or between the groups (p = 0.846). Conclusion: Cervical exercises alone or combined with moderate-intensity aerobic training are effective in reducing otological symptoms in women with TMD. Future research with larger sample sizes and more intense exercise protocols is needed to validate these findings and develop more effective treatments.

The subjects of youth and adult education (EJA) are still distant from higher education. Many factors contribute to this distance, related to social, economic, political, and cultural spheres, among others. EJA students often do not view higher education as a viable option, which further excludes them from an educational formation space. The hypothesis raised is that the lack of knowledge about the higher education universe is a factor to consider in this distancing. Thus, the general objective of this research is to understand and facilitate the expansion of knowledge among high school students in the EJA modality from two public schools in the municipality of São Carlos-SP regarding the universe of higher education. The study involved 42 students from the 2nd and 3rd terms of EJA from both schools. The specific objectives are threefold: I. To identify preliminary knowledge and ignorance about higher education, as well as the ways of entry, access policies, and retention at this level of education; II. To identify what students say about the importance and desire to pursue higher education; III. To analyze students' perceptions on the topic after meetings conducted within the research-intervention context aimed at presenting and discussing information about the higher education universe. This is a qualitative study grounded in the theoretical framework of Paulo Freire (1974; 1986; 1996). The methodological references guiding the intervention are based on the studies of Damiani et al. (2013) and Pereira (2019). A structured questionnaire was used as a research tool to investigate knowledge, ignorance, importance, and desire to pursue higher education. The results showed that 54.7% of participants had no preliminary knowledge about higher education; 64.2% were unaware of quota access; 76.1% did not know the entry stages; 76.9% were unaware of retention programs; and 87.1% declared they had no knowledge about PROUNI and FIES. Among the participants who did not see the importance or desire to enter higher education, all were men aged 18 to 20 years. Regarding the expansion of knowledge about higher education, two meetings were held with each school, organized into five themes: I. What is higher education? II. Public and private institutions. III. Forms of entry. IV. Access policies: Sisu, FIES, PROUNI, and Quotas. V. Student Retention. Of the 38 students who participated in the intervention, 89.4% expressed that the intervention contributed to reflecting on the topic, with 39.4% of participants stating that the activity made them consider the possibility of pursuing higher education. Thus, the study highlights the relevance of addressing the topic within EJA to expand students' knowledge and change their perspective regarding higher education.

This paper presents the results of a bibliographic search carried out on the Scientific Electronic Library Online platform, with the aim of identifying studies on the teaching and learning process of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in early childhood education and in the initial years of Brazilian primary education, from 2014 to 2024. The research sought to analyze and systematize evidence on the factors that have favored or disfavored the inclusion of these students, in light of the perspective of dialogic learning. The study sought to answer the following questions: what does research reveal about the inclusion of students with ASD in early childhood education and in the initial years of Brazilian primary education? Do the studies corroborate the perspective of dialogic learning or point to other approaches? What can published research contribute to the inclusion of these students in this specific context? The literature review was conducted in accordance with the methodological guidelines of “The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses” (PRISMA, 2020). The descriptors “autism and school education” were defined based on the Brazilian Education Thesaurus. The analysis of the data collected adopted a qualitative approach, with an emphasis on critical interpretation of the results and reflection on their implications for educational practice. With a corpus of 8 articles that met the selection criteria, the investigation revealed both advances and challenges for the inclusion of students with ASD, highlighting fundamental aspects for the promotion of quality inclusive education, which corroborate dialogic learning.

Starting from the literary representation of Inês de Castro in "Os Lusíadas," this paper seeks to understand the relationships between the biographical data of Inês available at the time and the process of her fictionalization in Camões' work. The portrayal of Inês is achieved through poetic and metaphorical language that diverges from the standard used by the epic narrator to describe the famous deeds of the Lusitanian people. In this sense, the aim is to unravel the development of the blend between the literary character created by Camões and the historical figure derived from her biographical characteristics.

The exacerbated production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in beta-thalassemia causes significant damage to erythrocytes and is closely associated with the pathophysiology of the disease. In this context, the action of the antioxidant defense system is vital for the maintenance and survival of erythrocytes. A work carried out by our research group pointed out important differences in the production of the enzymatic antioxidant proteins PRDX1 and PRDX2 between healthy individuals, and patients with beta-thalassemia no transfusion dependent (BTNTD) and transfusion dependent (BTTD). However, complementary studies that seek to elucidate metabolic pathways and molecular mechanisms involved in regulating these enzymes are necessary. In this sense, the PTEN enzyme stands out as an interesting target, since literature data shows that it can respond to oxidative stress by associating with the PRDX1 protein. Furthermore, PTEN, in tumors, was associated with the expression of other antioxidant proteins such as PRDX1 and 2 and SOD1, however, this relationship has not yet been investigated in beta-thalassemia. Our analyses of PTEN in BTNTD patients demonstrated an increase in its gene expression in relation to the control group, while in relation to BTTD patients we observed a possible correlation of its expression with the patients' HbA/HbF levels. We also observed an increase in PI3K expression in BTNTD patients and also in the BTTD group associated with higher HbF levels. Regarding protein levels, we observed a significant reduction of PTEN in BTTD patients compared to healthy individuals and BTNTD patients. Our results require further study, however, the results found suggest an important role for this gene in modulating the disease.

Breast cancer is the most prevalent disease affecting women in Brazil and it is also the type of cancer with the highest mortality rate among Brazilian women. Cancer exhibits significant heterogeneity, both in terms of the intrinsic characteristics of each type and subtype, as well as the influences exerted by the tumor microenvironment and individual responses of each organ and/or individual. The process of tumor development, called carcinogenesis, involves a series of genetic and epigenetic cellular alterations that lead to uncontrolled cell growth and proliferation. In malignant tumors, cellular dedifferentiation, as well as the loss of function and the absence of clear boundaries, are characteristics related to the invasion of adjacent tissues and the occurrence of metastases. The metastatic process consists of the spread of tumor cells from the primary site, culminating in the colonization of a site for secondary tumor development. This process involves a cascade of events, from the loss of adhesion of cancer cells from the primary tumor to the colonization of a new tissue. Angiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels to supply the tumor with nutrients and oxygen, is strongly stimulated when tumor growth reaches proportions that generate hypoxic regions, and it also facilitates the spread of tumor cells through the bloodstream. Among the subtypes of breast cancer, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) stands out due to the absence of ER, PR, and HER2 receptors, being considered one of the most aggressive types with the poorest prognosis. The present study aimed to develop an animal model to characterize triple-negative breast cancer originating from 4T1 cells in BALB/c mice. Through the development of this model, it was possible to identify cellular behaviors during the cultivation stage, as well as the primary tumor progression in animals, occurrence of metastases, and the histopathological characteristics of the tumors.

It is known that Primary Health Care is the basis of a health service, that is, it is the entry main focus for other levels of care that will promote comprehensive attention to the subject. One One of the main points of PHC is the possibility of generating singularities in care offered through the search for knowledge of the contexts that involve users. THE National Health Survey (PNS), from 2019, found that 17.3 million Brazilians seek the services offered by APS, with 69.9% being women from different backgrounds. ages. In view of this, it can be considered that women are the biggest users of PHC, and who mostly seek assistance for the pregnancy-puerperal period. That research aims to elucidate how, and if, puerperal care occurs according to the most recurrent practical demands and the professionals involved, in addition to characterizing the strengths and challenges related to care at this level of health care and verify the possible actions of the occupational therapist. For this, in the methodology we will use the approach of an integrative review, which aims to synthesize results found in research on the exposed theme, thus being able to direct research to find the answers to the questions chosen in the study. It is expected provide material that will help in understanding how postpartum care occurs in PHC, those involved and other possibilities that may appear throughout the process.

The mental health of college students has become a growing target of interest and investigation among researchers in the field of Health, as studies have pointed to a high prevalence of psychological distress in this population. In addition, wearable technologies have emerged as a tool with great potential in the field of mental health. Hence the need to know not only the risks offered by the use of technologies such as wearable technologies but, above all, to understand the potential that these virtual spaces offer, so that these technologies can increasingly be converted into aid tools in mental health prevention and promotion interventions. Objective: To understand how the use of smartwatches can contribute to the Psychosocial Care follow-up of university students. The present study will constitute a quali-quantitative research. For this, it proposes to analyze the possible relations between the physiological signals: number of steps and quality of sleep, collected by smartwatches, and the responses of the PHQ-9 scale. The data from this research were inconclusive regarding the relationship between the physiological data collected and depression in university students. This was mainly due to two reasons: methodological difficulties and the high number of outliers found.

Emotional management, developed since our childhood, is an important factor in our lives and relationships. However, risk factors experienced by children in social vulnerability tend to impact this ability. In this regard, this research aimed to verify and compare the emotional management ability in children who experience and do not experience social vulnerability, through a psychological test with the inclusion of an interview (qualitative questions) for each item of the instrument. Twenty children participated in the study (10 from the group with social vulnerability and 10 without social vulnerability). The instruments used were the Children's Emotional Management Test - TGEC (adapted for this research with fewer items and with questions inserted at the end of each item) and the Brazil Economic Classification Criteria - CCEB to identify the social class of each participant. Although the quantitative results did not show a statistically significant difference, the qualitative analysis provided relevant data about differences between the groups in emotional management ability. Children in social vulnerability demonstrated a more limited vocabulary in naming emotions and feelings and had greater difficulty understanding the problem situations in the stories. The non-vulnerable group showed more skill in interpreting the problem situations presented, greater development and elaboration of their responses, and provided solutions that tend to be more adaptive to the problems presented. Therefore, the investigation provided data supporting the hypothesis that there is a relationship between the social context and children's emotional management ability.

Phylogenetics is the field that aims to understand the relationships between different organisms in terms of their development and evolution. A key question in this area is how to analyze the integration and modularity of different characteristics of individuals. Integration refers to the association between characteristics, while modularity focuses on the investigation of groups of characters that have greater dependence on some than others. Despite the abundance of papers in this field that use continuous data, there are fewer papers that focus on the discrete case. In this paper, we present an approach for evaluating the integration between discrete phylogenetic characters, for this the methodology consisting of two steps. The first step is to calculate the similarity between characters using simple correlations (Pearson and Spearman) and by utilizing topology (Threshold Model and Phylogenetic Logistic Regression- PLR). In using PLR, we consider the absolute values of the coefficients and the p-value as measures of association. The second step involves using the information obtained in step one to build a hierarchical Cluster, in order to visualize modules. We use simulated datasets from Markov and Threshold models. To compare the results of each technique, we employ three metrics: Rand Index (RI), Normalized Mutual nformation (NMI) e o Fowlkes Mallows Index (FMI). This allows us to assess how incorporating phylogenetic information impacts the analyses through data simulation.

Poverty is a condition of precariousness that affects various aspects of life, and a significant portion of the elderly population is in this situation, which makes them increasingly vulnerable. The objective of this research was to compare age, sex, education, nutrition, frailty, mood, and social support among older adults residing in areas of high social vulnerability, according to poverty conditions. The study adopted a descriptive, exploratory, and cross-sectional design, with a quantitative approach. It was derived from a longitudinal study called "Monitoring Tool for Frailty Levels in Elderly People Attended in Primary Health Care", and data collection took place from March to August 2018. A total of 238 elderly individuals were interviewed, with inclusion criteria based on age (60 years or older), residence in the Cidade Aracy neighborhood, and participation in previous data collections. The instruments used included sociodemographic questionnaires and assessments of depressive symptoms, nutrition, frailty, and social support. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS and Excel statistical software. Of the 238 elderly individuals interviewed, 174 provided information about income. Among these, 82% were not in poverty, while 18% were. The results indicated that elderly individuals in poverty tend to present more depressive symptoms and lower social support. Factors such as low education, inadequate nutritional status, and physical frailty were associated with a higher likelihood of poverty. It was also found that poverty is a risk factor for the development of depressive symptoms. Social support, especially formal support, played a crucial role in mitigating the effects of poverty. In conclusion, there is an urgent need for public policies that address the vulnerability of the elderly population, both at the local level and in broader regions, to mitigate the effects of poverty and ensure a dignified quality of life for this population. Additionally, there is a need for the development of theories and policies specifically aimed at the reality of the elderly in Latin America.

This thesis seeks to understand how the process of subjectivation of male and female prison officers occurs based on their work in correctional institutions, using the concept of “prisonization” developed by Clemmer as a theoretical basis. In addition, the work seeks to uncover whether there are differences in the perceptions of women and men. In other words, the aim is to articulate gender and the construction of a prisonized subjectivity. For that purpose, a mixed-methods methodology was employed. From a qualitative perspective, 57 interviews were conducted with prison officers based in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, where 22 were women and 35 were men. From a quantitative perspective, 91 structured questionnaires were answered, 53 by male prison officer and 38 by female prison officer. The analyses indicated that custodial techniques are transformed into a self-techniques, in which the officers guide their conduct both inside and outside the prison. A prisonized subjectivity is the construction and adoption of the prison culture that is supported by distrust, fear, violence, hostility, hyper-vigilance, valorization of the performances of masculinity.

Brazil is the world’s largest producer of sugarcane ethanol. However, alcoholic fermentation still faces significant challenges, such as the inhibitory effect of ethanol and the difficulty in temperature control. Extractive fermentation with carbon dioxide (CO₂) stripping has shown promise, as it allows for the use of more concentrated sugar musts, resulting in a higher total ethanol concentration. This process also facilitates the removal of heat generated by the yeasts. In this context, the present work proposes an innovative approach by investigating temperature control through the manipulation of CO₂ volumetric flow rates in extractive fed-batch fermentations. A mathematical model of the process was developed, and simulations were performed to identify ideal flow rate values that would maintain a constant broth fermentation temperature throughout the process. The following control strategies were investigated: 1) Feedback control using an on/off controller in closed loop, adjusting the CO₂ flow rate to maintain fermentation temperature at 34 °C; 2) Optimization of CO₂ volumetric flow rates (one flow rate per subinterval), by dividing the stripping interval into different subintervals (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32), in simulated fermentations at temperatures of 30, 32, and 34 °C; and 3) Optimization of CO₂ volumetric flow rates inspired by model predictive control. Experimental results confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed strategies. In the first strategy, the temperature was maintained close to the desired value (34 °C) using a constant CO₂ flow rate of 12 L/min. In the second strategy, the temperature deviation was 0.5 °C, using eight optimal CO₂ flow rates. In the third strategy, the temperature was maintained at 35 °C with a deviation of less than 1 °C, employing 84 CO₂ flow rates values. This final strategy resulted in the lowest total CO₂ amount, with a reduction of approximately 14.7% compared to the others. The approach demonstrated that the use of CO₂ is effective in removing heat generated during the process and in temperature control, overcoming one of the limitations of fermentation, especially in units located in hot climates. Additionally, this approach may reduce or even eliminate the need for water for cooling fermentation vats.
