Resumo

Slam is a poetry battle that originated in the USA in the 1980s and was originally performed in spoken languages through poetry spoken a cappella. It has spread to other countries. In Brazil, more recently, a trend has emerged in the Deaf Community: signed poetry in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) performed by Deaf slammers or duet performances, with signing by the deaf person and vocalization or vocalization/signing of the poetry by the hearing interpreter poet, making the performance a presentation composed in two languages, Libras and Portuguese. The general objective of this work is to discuss the particularities, challenges and experiences of bilingual duets (Portuguese - Libras) in slam from the perspectives of a Deaf slammer poet and a hearing interpreter poet who have already performed/perform in slam. The specific objectives of this research are: (i) to analyze how duet performances in slam are constructed; (ii) to assess the social context in which duet slam is found concomitantly in the universe of deaf culture; (iii) to discuss the characteristics that differentiate slam performance from other artistic spheres; and (iv) to highlight the perceptions of deaf and hearing individuals regarding the topic. The research is qualitative in nature and adopts a focus group with people who work in the genre as a methodology, aiming to map and describe their professional experiences and specificities of slam performance. The corpus was constructed through a remote meeting with the two group participants. The research is based on a Bakhtinian analysis focusing on discussions of the sociocultural and historical importance in the process of constructing performances and the professionals involved, inserted in the slam movements and the deaf community.
