listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, O que brota das ruínas: o processo de ambientalização dos conflitos agrários em Alagoas(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-05-29) Lima, Weldja Marques da Silva; Martins, Rodrigo Constante; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6617183095074852; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6440521092135747; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0192-3144This research examines the processes of environmentalization present in agrarian conflicts in Alagoas, with an emphasis on disputes between the sugar-alcohol sector and the Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST). The Zona da Mata region of Alagoas, characterized by the concentration of sugarcane monoculture and a significant number of land disputes, constitutes the main spatial focus of the investigation. The study seeks to understand how environmental issues have been appropriated and reinterpreted by these actors in the construction of their narratives and political strategies. Methodologically, the research adopts a qualitative approach, based on a literature review, secondary data analysis, quantitative and fieldwork. The specific objectives include: a) identifying and relating the historical formation of the sugarcane sector and the MST in Alagoas to environmental issues; b) analyzing the socio-environmental conflicts involving both groups; c) examining the discursive and marketing strategies employed by both the sugar-alcohol sector and the MST in the environmental debate; d) understanding the social and political motivations behind investments in agribusiness and social movements. By exploring these dynamics, the research contributes to the understanding of territorial and symbolic dispute mechanisms that shape contemporary agrarian conflicts, highlighting the role of environmental issues in the reconfiguration of these disputes. The phenomenon of the environmentalization of agrarian conflicts is understood as a dynamic and multifaceted process. This thesis contributes to the field by demonstrating how environmental issues have become a space of political dispute between antagonistic social classes. The main contribution lies in showing that environmentalization is not merely a discursive phenomenon but a mechanism for legitimizing different interests within the agrarian context. This process allows for an understanding of how class conflict is updated within the environmental agenda and how different actors appropriate this discourse to justify their actions.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Zora Neale Hurston entre espaços de experiência e horizontes de expectativas: ou a trajetória de uma escritora e intelectual negra do/no século XX(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-05-29) Melo, Carolina Nascimento de; Silvério, Valter Roberto; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9421231847055027; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1715-4535; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6388273288566422; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4644-3918This dissertation explores the multifaceted trajectory of Zora Neale Hurston, an American Black writer, anthropologist, and intellectual active between the 19th and 20th centuries. The study examines the intricate articulations among culture, race, and gender within a historical context where race largely dictated public, academic, and cultural discourse in the United States. The research posits that culture, more than race, should be understood as the central stage for symbolic disputes and the possibilities for creative agency among Black populations. Its impacts are observable both in their daily lives and in the historical changes they spearheaded. To achieve this, utilizing the concepts of articulation, space of experience, and horizon of expectations, the work investigates how Hurston, through her writing and academic-cultural engagement, managed to challenge hegemonic paradigms and inaugurate literary and political genealogies that resonate with contemporary and global Black intellectual thought. The methodological foundation of the research is structured around three main approaches: the use of (con)textual interludes as a narrative and analytical strategy; the application of the circuit of culture as a lens for observing the contingencies of circumstances that allowed her a distinct role in her socio-historical context; and the African diaspora as a theoretical and political key for understanding practices of being and existing in the world that differed from those delimited by colonialist systems. Hurston's collection at the University of Florida served as a primary source, enabling the retrieval of memories, documents, and productions that, while narrating a life, also highlight the paths and the creation of other ways of existing and signifying the world.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Efeitos da heterogeneidade da dívida sobre a eficiência do investimento(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-05-29) Sousa, Liduina Bezerra de; Carvalho, Flávio Leonel de; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9615144436796386; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8488-9382; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9583077863643515; https://orcid.org/0009-0001-6130-8530Decisions regarding financing and investment are essential for the financial performance of companies. These decisions can be analyzed in a specific way in order to improve extant analyses over financing and investment choices of firms. A relevant aspect of financing decisions refers to the option of firms to have a debt structure with lower or greater diversity of different types of debt, altering the degree of heterogeneity of the debt structure. With regard to investment decisions, understanding the determinants of efficient investment decisions is fundamental, since inefficient decision-making has an impact on the firm value. Given the scarcity of studies linking these two specific approaches, this research investigates the effects of debt heterogeneity on investment efficiency. The methodology used is econometric analysis with multiple linear regression with panel data. The sample includes non-financial companies listed on NASDAQ and NYSE, the two largest stock exchanges in terms of trading volume. The selected period covers the years between 2017 and 2022. The results indicate that a diversified debt structure is associated with greater investment efficiency. Additional tests reveal that the positive relationship between debt structure diversity and investment efficiency remains for companies with low bankruptcy costs and also in the period following the COVID-19 pandemic. The results indicate that borrowing different types of debt contributes to greater efficiency on investment decisions of companies due to a balance provided by the costs and benefits of these loans. There is evidence that one of the advantages brought about by a greater degree of debt heterogeneity for investment efficiency is the reduction in monitoring costs incurred by creditors. The conclusion of this study is that debt diversification is beneficial for investment decisions of firms, being a significant choice to deter firms from overinvestment or underinvestment.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Usabilidade e recomendabilidade de um site interativo visando promover mudanças comportamentais em usuários de computador(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-05-29) Giorgette Filho, Evandro Carlos; Sato, Tatiana de Oliveira; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3456494998257229; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8797-8981; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8547943266634133; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2700-2765; Serrão, Fábio Viadanna; Locks Neto, Francisco; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8137335642635433; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6688084327804941; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3655-9933; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0577-2213Introduction: The growth in the use of technology has led workers to use computers for long periods of time, both at work and leisure time. Prolonged computer use is associated with a sedentary lifestyle. Sedentary behavior is a risk factor for several health problems, and changing this behavior can be promoted through technology. Objective: To test the usability of an interactive website (Habitus) with the aim of promoting behavioral changes in computer users. Methods: Health experts evaluated the content of the Habitus website blog. Computer experts were invited to perform a heuristic evaluation divided into three stages (pre-evaluation, evaluation, and session with evaluators and developers). Subsequently, computer users, graduate and undergraduate students were invited to participate in the study through social networks and by email. Participants completed an initial questionnaire containing sociodemographic data, lifestyle habits, and musculoskeletal symptoms. A link to access the Habitus application was made available so that participants could use the website. After one month, a feedback and recommendation questionnaire was sent regarding the usability of the website. Results: Eight health experts reviewed the content of the Habitus blog. Three evaluators performed a heuristic evaluation of the Habitus website and changes were made. Forty computer users evaluated the website for one month. The usability score obtained was 86.94 and users indicated a 35% chance of recommending the website to colleagues. Conclusion: the Habitus website has excellent usability and is well received by users, but there is potential for improvements to increase customer satisfaction and usage.
