listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Avanço das tecnologias de diagnóstico após a pandemia de Covid-19 no brasil: inovações e perspectivas para as doenças respiratórias, arboviroses e infecções sexualmente transmissíveis(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Pereira, Maria Laura de Oliveira; Pranchevicius, Maria Cristina da Silva; : http://lattes.cnpq.br/4772148921558977; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7673328010901667The COVID-19 pandemic was a turning point in the history of diagnostic innovations, driving the advancement and implementation of methods aimed at the rapid and accurate identification of pathogens. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impacts of this period on the progress of diagnostic technologies in Brazil, examining the main methods established after the pandemic, in comparison with what is already consolidated, and their possible future directions for respiratory diseases, arboviruses, and sexually transmitted infections. The research was based on a literature review, using the Google Scholar, PubMed, and SciELO databases, covering the period from 2015 to 2024. Clinical and institutional studies regarding diagnostic methodologies and public health strategies were incorporated, complemented by data available on the Ministry of Health's portals. The results show that the pandemic accelerated the expansion and modernization of molecular platforms and increased testing capacity in the country. Simultaneously, point-of-care (PoC) technologies, such as rapid antigen and antibody tests, have become fundamental for the decentralization of diagnostics, resulting in new regulations by ANVISA (RDC 786/2023 and 978/2025) for various infectious diseases. Genetic sequencing, which was previously restricted to research projects, is now a continuous part of epidemiological surveillance, thanks to the SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance Consortium and programs such as Genomas SUS. Thus, it is possible to conclude that the pandemic has driven significant technological progress in Brazilian diagnostics, expanding the use of automated platforms, reducing costs and time for diagnosis, and enabling access for the population. However, challenges remain regarding the equitable distribution of these technologies, considering the various regions of the country. To consolidate the progress made and ensure a more resilient and accessible diagnostic system, it is essential to strengthen laboratory infrastructure and continue investing in innovation from North to South of the country.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Análise molecular de escaldadura-das-folhas da cana-de-açúcar: otimização dos fatores envolvidos no exame diagnóstico(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Teixeira, Otávio Magno; Liska, Gilberto Rodrigues; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2217949943647601; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5108-377X; Urashima, Alfredo Seiiti; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1289170266294665; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1311-0853; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8037405677549041; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6565-6017The use of pre-sprouted seedlings (MPB) has been increasingly adopted to reduce the volume of propagative material in sugarcane planting. The health of these seedlings is essential for the success of the method, especially against systemic bacterial diseases such as ratoon stunting disease and leaf scald. Leaf scald, caused by Xanthomonas albilineans, is one of the most significant diseases for the crop, and its spread occurs primarily through infected propagation materials. Therefore, this work aimed to optimize the routine diagnostic test for detecting X. albilineans in MPBs. In the first assay, five published primer pairs: Ala4/L1, PGBL1/PGBL2, XAF1/XAR1, XaQf/XaQr, and XaABCF3/XaABCR3, were evaluated both under the original conditions described by the authors and under modifications proposed in this study. Additionally, sensitivity in DNA dilutions (sample pool) and detection stability over time (DNA preservation) were evaluated. The tests were performed using pure bacterial culture and total DNA extracted from sugarcane. The results demonstrated that the Ala4/L1 primer pair, with the implemented modifications, was the most effective for diagnosis. The use of composite samples proved viable, while storing DNA at +4°C (refrigeration) was the most efficient preservation method. It was also found that prolonged intervals between DNA extraction and PCR reduce the probability of pathogen detection. Finally, variations in reaction performance were observed between different thermocyclers.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Quando o primeiro passo encontra o mundo lá fora: análise das práticas de desemparedamento com bebês(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Santos, Pâmella Eduarda Soares dos; Barros, Bruna Cury de; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0808795524597177This study aims to analyze pedagogical “unwalling” practices with infants, as documented in academic articles, in order to understand whether and how such practices promote ruptures in the physical, cultural, and epistemological structures of Early Childhood Education, valuing nature as a curricular matrix. The study confronts the childcare-centered legacy of daycares and the historical invisibility of infants’ pedagogical specificities, which have resulted in a model of spatial and curricular confinement in nurseries. This qualitative bibliographic research used Content Analysis as the procedure for data examination. The discussions and results show that unwalling requires the simultaneity of three interconnected ruptures: Physical, Cultural, and Conceptual, the latter being the driving force of the process as it recognizes the infant as an active subject and nature as a curricular axis. A strong convergence among the studies points to the imperative of reflective teacher education as an enabling condition for sensitive observation and the management of acceptable risk. As a final reflective contribution, it is inferred that unwalling in nursery settings can be understood as the enhancement of physical space into a space of fluidity, shifting its structural rigidity to make it adaptable and permeable to the manifestation of infants’ singularities under teacher mediation.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Sujeitos e disputas ideológicas na origem da BNCC(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Silva, Vanessa Agatha Silva e; Martins, Marcos Francisco; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4515924584428591; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8220-2030The main objective of this research was to analyze the ideological disputes that occurred during the elaboration of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), a normative document that defines the set of concepts to be learned in the stages and modalities of Basic Education in Brazilian public and private schools. The research, of a bibliographic and documentary nature, adopts a qualitative approach grounded in the dialectical method. Sources such as SciELO and Google Scholar were used, given the extensive production on the BNCC and the disputes surrounding its formulation. The qualitative approach allows for the understanding of meanings and social practices, while the dialectical method makes it possible to interpret the BNCC as a result of contradictions, hegemonic disputes, and power relations in the educational field. Based on a conceptual analysis of ideology and how it relates to education, employing authors such as Destutt de Tracy, Marx, Engels, Lenin, Karl Mannheim, Gramsci, Althusser, Chauí, Lyra, and Rossi, it was possible to identify how the school is one of the main apparatuses for the manifestation and reproduction of ideologies. With the spread of neoliberal thought, education came to be seen more as a "product" permeating the educational practices developed in schools, the dynamics that identify it (teaching materials, manuals, teacher training courses, evaluation system) and the regulations that govern it, as is the case with the BNCC (National Common Core Curriculum). Conversely, there were individuals who strove to resist this neoliberal logic, advocating for a more pluralistic curriculum constructed democratically, that is, with the effective participation of the educational community. However, in fact, there was little dialogue between the parties, causing the document (BNCC) not to reflect the principles of the progressive ideology of those who defend public and socially referenced quality education. It was concluded that the individuals who had the most influence in the process of elaborating and implementing the BNCC were aligned with neoliberal ideology, which was reflected in the content of the final document presented to society and used today by education professionals in their daily school life for the development of pedagogical practices in educational institutions.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Micrornas e seu papel na variação da expressão gênica e de fenótipos de interesse em bovinos da raça nelore(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Dias, Marina Cerqueira; Sudano, Mateus José; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1945811068525845; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7699-4449; Regitano, Luciana Correia de Almeida; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9595338480545794; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9242-8351; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4426776999814134; https://orcid.org/0009-0000-5155-1978Nellore cattle are highly relevant to the Brazilian beef market because they are well adapted to the tropical climate. Artificial selection is a useful technique in the pursuit of improved herd productivity and sustainability, with animals exhibiting advantageous phenotypes being chosen as parents for future generations. Phenotypic expression in cattle is a complex process affected by gene expression. Thus, molecules such as microRNAs (miRNAs), which play a regulatory role in gene expression, are relevant targets for studying the manifestation of observable traits. This study tested the correlation between the expression profile of liver, muscle, and rumen mRNAs from a population of 52 Nelore cattle and the phenotypes of rib eye area (REA), subcutaneous fat thickness (SFT) between the 11th and 12th ribs, residual feed intake (RFI), and residual methane emission (RME). The total RNA content of the tissue samples was extracted, analyzed, and sequenced to obtain miRNA and mRNA sequences. The raw data were processed and analyzed, which involved quality control, mapping, alignment, identification, batch correction, and filtering steps. The resulting miRNAs and mRNAs, along with the phenotypic data of each animal, were used for correlation tests between the miRNAs/mRNAs expressed in each tissue and the REA, SFT, RFI and RME phenotypes using the PCIT algorithm. The results of this tissue-specific analysis were organized into correlation networks. Afterwards, target-seeking and functional enrichment analyses were performed to identify the target genes of miRNAs significantly correlated with one of the phenotypes in at least one tissue and to find the biological pathways in which these target genes participate. The results of the study revealed candidate genes for further investigation, such as CYP2R1, DNAJC28, WWOX, LYRM1, GRAMD1B, MPC1, and TIPARP. These genes had already been associated in previous studies with traits related to carcass and meat quality or feed efficiency in cattle. Furthermore, the biological pathways regulating the actin cytoskeleton and mTOR signaling, enriched for candidate genes, also proved to be interesting targets for a better understanding of the direct and indirect regulatory role of miRNAs.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Educação infantil e racismo: um estado do conhecimento dos trabalhos de conclusão de curso das licenciaturas em pedagogia da UFSCar (2019-2025)(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Santos, Mariana Aparecida dos; Santos, Maria Walburga dos; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2954227254025696; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9304-5800; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9504057538863113; https://orcid.org/0009-0003-3143-4522This research investigates the presence and treatment of racial issues in Early Childhood Education within the academic productions of the Pedagogy program at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). The guiding questions are: Does the racial theme in Early Childhood Education appear in the works produced by graduates of the Pedagogy/UFSCar program? If so, what motivates these graduates to research the topic? The general objective is to map, discuss, and analyze the academic production of Undergraduate Theses (TCCs) from the Pedagogy/UFSCar program related to the treatment of Education for Ethnic-Racial Relations (ERER) between the first semester of 2019 and the first semester of 2025. The specific objectives are: (1) to understand the interests and justifications that underpin these works; and (2) to identify the predominant thematic approaches, considering categories such as pedagogical practice, teacher education, and racial belonging. The analyzed materials consist of Undergraduate Theses from the in-person Pedagogy program, from the Sorocaba and São Carlos campuses, available in the university’s Institutional Repository (RI). This is a mixed-methods study, based on the State of Knowledge methodology (Morosini, 2014; 2021), which seeks to identify and interpret the body of existing studies on a given topic within a defined time frame. Due to the scarcity of specific productions on the subject, an expanded inclusion criterion was adopted, encompassing not only works centered on Early Childhood Education but also those with potential application to that context, as they offer pedagogical and conceptual contributions to antiracist practices in daycare and preschool settings. The results reveal a dual institutional gap: the unequal rate of thesis deposit between campuses (29.4% in São Carlos and 85.4% in Sorocaba) and the marginalization of racial issues, resulting in 11 works (5.1%) analyzed in this research. Hypertension is frequently related to arterial stiffness, a condition that predicts the risk for cardiovascular events and mortality. Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy has a potential hypotensive mechanism, that can modulate arterial wall distension and then improve arterial stiffness indicators, showing promise as a therapeutic resource in the treatment of hypertension. However, until now, no studies have been found that have investigated these potential PBM effects, especially with emphasis on full-body PBM, that can achieve systemic effects. Objectives: To evaluate the acute effect of full-body PBM on arterial stiffness of individuals with hypertension. Material and Methods: This is a randomized double-blind and sham-controlled clinical trial. Participants (n=21) aged 40 to 60 years old, diagnosed with hypertension and using control drugs were equally, randomly and secretly allocated into one of 2 groups: Full-body PBM group; and Full-body PBM Sham group. Participants were assessed for arterial stiffness in the pre- and post-intervention moments by carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity analysis. Participants received a single application of PBM, which, depending on the group, was an active or sham full-body irradiation from a LED panel. Data homogeneity and normality were verified by the Levene and Shapiro-Wilk tests, which determined the choice of subsequent tests. A statistical significance of 5% was considered. Results: The pulse wave velocity (PWV) values between the pre- and post-therapy assessments showed no statistically significant differences in either group. However, the active group demonstrated a reduction from 8.18 ± 1.40 m/s to 7.89 ± 0.91 m/s, whereas the sham group showed an increase from 6.26 ± 0.64 m/s to 6.56 ± 0.94 m/s. Aortic systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and mean arterial pressure (MAP) values exhibited significant reductions in the active group, decreasing from 132.4 ± 10.7 to 124.3 ± 9.33 mmHg, from 90.2 ± 10.02 to 85.75 ± 8.65 mmHg, and from 108.4 ± 10.51 to 101.4 ± 10.10 mmHg, respectively. In contrast, the sham group showed no statistically significant differences between pre- and post-therapy assessments, with aortic SBP, DBP, and MAP changing from 124.2 ± 11.41 to 123.3 ± 13.45 mmHg, from 84.55 ± 11.88 to 84.45 ± 13.54 mmHg, and from 101.4 ± 11.82 to 99.36 ± 14.33 mmHg, respectively. Conclusion: The findings suggest a possible association between photobiomodulation therapy and improvements in outcomes related to arterial stiffness. Further studies involving larger samples and longer follow-up periods are required to support the consolidation of this technique as an alternative or adjunct to pharmacological treatment.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Redes ecológicas: avaliando a interação entre aves frugívoras e plantas em diferentes ambientes de um agroecossistema(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Bonifácio, Lorena Santos; Franchin, Alexandre Gabriel; Rother, Débora Cristina; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2288957756143935; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3670-8372The maintenance of plant diversity depends on the presence of seed dispersers, with birds being the main agents of dispersal in tropical regions. Birds, in turn, rely on plants for resources. However, human-induced disturbances alter ecosystems, negatively affecting species and consequently their interactions. Considering the importance of mutualistic interactions for maintaining the complexity and biological diversity of ecosystems, it is crucial to understand which species and their established interactions persist in altered environments. Therefore, the aim of this study was to understand how bird–plant interactions are structured across different areas of an agroecosystem located on the Lagoa do Sino campus of UFSCar. The study also recorded fruit manipulation, removal, swallowing, and regurgitation behaviors of birds in four environments of the agroecosystem: an Agroforestry System (AFS), forest fragments (a remnant forest and a regenerating forest with abandoned eucalyptus), and an open urbanized area. The results indicate that certain species, such as Thraupis sayaca, Turdus leucomelas, and Dacnis cayana, are essential for the resilience of the agroecosystem. These birds act as ecological connectors by interacting with different groups of plants, such as Cecropia pachystachya, thereby promoting environmental maintenance and balance. The Open Urban Area and Agroforestry System harbor highly attractive plant species that efficiently support the formation of more consistent interaction networks. This pattern is associated with the diversity of available resources and the presence of plant species that bear fruit throughout the year, ensuring the continuous maintenance of ecological interactions.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Impacto do tempo de armazenamento na composição química do mesocarpo de frutos de Acrocomia spp.(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Silva, Maria Carolina Carvalho; Carvalho, Cassia Regina Limonta; Schinor, Evandro Henrique; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2162760988837984The genus Acrocomia has gained prominence at both national and international levels due to its high productive capacity and the wide range of applications of its fruits. Among oil-producing palms, macaúba is considered one of the most promising species, providing oils of excellent quality from both the pulp and the kernel. Its broad natural distribution, combined with high productivity, resistance, and adaptability to diverse environments, positions this species as a crucial option for establishing sustainable production chains. Despite this positive scenario, the production chain of Acrocomia species is still under development and lacks basic information to support both the industrial use of its by-products and strategies for selection and genetic improvement. Therefore, the present study aimed to analyze and characterize chemical changes in the proximate composition of the pulp of A. aculeata, hybrids, and A. totai over a 28-day storage period. Throughout the study, all samples were ensured to be on a dry basis for the determination of oil, protein, moisture, ash, sugars (sucrose, glucose, fructose), starch, and fiber. These data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance to illustrate the temporal patterns of chemical variables across different genotypes, applying nonparametric smoothing tools in the R software. Similarities among genotypes were observed for oil, protein, moisture, and ash contents. In contrast, regarding sugars and carbohydrates, A. aculeata and the hybrids showed an inverse relationship between starch and fiber loss and the increase in oil, sucrose, glucose, and fructose contents, whereas in A. totai, starch and fiber remained stable during storage, while oil, sucrose, glucose, and fructose exhibited only subtle variations. It was concluded that the results demonstrate distinct physiological behaviors among the genetic groups, indicating that the proximate composition of Acrocomia spp. fruits is influenced by genetic material and storage time.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Uma análise enunciativo-discursiva do ethos do enunciador em textos preparatórios para o ENEM(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Ferreira, Letícia Silveira; Brito, Luiz André Neves de; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6863292359239733; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7196713851459662; Siqueira, Michele; Trombetta, Vanda Mari; Falconi, Lívia Maria Pires; Araújo, Lígia Mara Boin Menossi de; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2253640747388203; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9514500791285095; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4769798375720121; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7893136450669304This research, situated in the field of Language Teaching and Learning, aims to develop an enunciative-discursive analysis of texts produced in the context of ENEM preparation. The study draws on conceptions of writing and language grounded in the framework of literacy studies from a discursive perspective, as discussed by Corrêa (2007; 2011) and Tfouni (2010), both of whom build on the French tradition of Discourse Analysis (Pêcheux, 2009; 2011). Based on these theoretical premises, we adopt Dominique Maingueneau’s (2005a; 2005b; 2006a; 2006b) concept of discursive ethos to understand how the writer’s way of saying is inseparable from a way of being. Thus, we conceive the subject not merely as an enunciative position, but as a historically situated voice and body, in dialogue with the conceptions of language and writing that ground this study. The corpus comprises twenty essays written on a specific theme — qualification and the future of employment — collected from an open-access online teaching platform used for ENEM preparation. Following the methodological principles of the evidential paradigm (Ginzburg, 1989), we identified two main traces that reveal how the enunciator constructs an image of self: (1) the thematic treatment of “employment,” that is, how the topic is semantically developed; and (2) the discursive event through which the writer, by working with language, inscribes dialogic relations with other voices in the construction of meaning. Drawing on Brito’s (2011) assumption that language and institutions are deeply intertwined, and that we speak with others’ words to construct our own discourse, the analyzed traces function as clues to reflect not only on the social and ideological positions from which these subjects speak, but also on the living heterogeneity that constitutes their writing. Ultimately, by moving beyond a normative framework that merely classifies produced texts as “good” or “bad,” this study seeks to contribute to reflections on a critical pedagogy of writing that denounces the catastrophic discourse surrounding writing and problematizes assessment practices.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Formação continuada a distância para rede privada: análise de um curso autoinstrucional em educação especial inclusiva(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Muto, Jéssica Harume Dias; Galvani, Márcia Duarte; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6866106661255961; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1092-746X; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3822821764707104; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0977-6978; Ramos, Denise de Amorim; Silva, Maria do Carmo Lobato da; Vilaronga, Carla Ariela Rios; Paulino, Vanessa Cristina; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7068646365478561; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3475922880632267; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6536774151778096; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5235654050505504In recent decades, teacher training has been widely discussed in light of the technological, social, and political transformations permeating the educational field, especially given the urgency to consolidate inclusive practices in schools. The incorporation of digital technologies, particularly in continuing education, emerges as an opportunity to broaden access to knowledge. In this context, this study sought to analyze the potential and limitations of a self-instructional course mediated by digital technologies as a strategy for the continuing education of basic education teachers within the scope of inclusive education. To achieve this goal, the research unfolded into two specific objectives: (a) to characterize the pedagogical and technological proposal of the self-paced course, based on documentary analysis considering its objectives, structure, resources, and forms of didactic-methodological organization; and (b) to analyze, based on records and documents produced on the training platform, the teachers’ perceptions of the adequacy of the course content and strategies in relation to the training demands related to pedagogical practice from an inclusive perspective.Using a qualitative, descriptive, and documentary approach, this study sought to analyze documents and materials from a massive self-instructional distance learning course offered by a private company serving approximately 1,300 basic education schools nationwide through a digital platform, including quantitative and qualitative data. The analysis was organized into four axes: pedagogical and technological proposal, didactic-evaluative coherence, participants' perceptions, and formative implications. The results showed that the technology-mediated self-instructional course has the potential to contribute to the continuing education of teachers from the perspective of inclusive education, but also presents structural and pedagogical limitations that restrict its formative impact. The analysis revealed that the proposal was predominantly transmissive, focused on the provision of content, without fostering critical reflection on learning and teaching practices in the face of the real demands of inclusive schools. The results reaffirm that teacher training is a continuous and complex process that must articulate theory and practice, supported by an ethical and political commitment to school inclusion. Recognizing the limitations of the self-instructional model, the study proposes a shift in focus from simply offering courses to valuing formative experience, arguing that teacher training from the perspective of inclusive special education requires intentionality, mediation, and spaces for authorship and engagement—fundamental elements for consolidating an education committed to diversity, equity, and social participation. It concludes that continuing education mediated by digital technologies has the potential to broaden access and democratize training opportunities; however, inclusion, as a principle that implies a change in conceptions and practices, demands that teachers reflect, dialogue, and reframe their pedagogical practice. Thus, the study provides relevant insights for improving public policies, programs, and actions aimed at teacher training, contributing to the construction of more collaborative educational practices.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Revisão teórica da previsão de band gap em perovskitas por meio de modelos de Machine Learning e Teoria do Funcional da Densidade (DFT)(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Gigante, Lucas Antonio; Campo Junior, Vivaldo Leiria; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7150892281897003This work presents a theoretical review of band gap prediction in perovskites, focusing on the integration between traditional first-principles methods, represented by Density Functional Theory (DFT), and Machine Learning (ML) models applied to materials science. Initially, the theoretical foundations of solid materials are postulated, such as crystalline structures and factors that influence the band gap. This discussion continues with a description of the particularities of perovskites, their structure, and optoelectronic behavior. Next, the formulation of DFT is explored, along with its practical limitations associated with exchange and correlation functional approximations and the high computational cost in extensive systems. Based on this, the relevance of Machine Learning models as an alternative to mitigate these limitations is presented, with a comparative analysis of different algorithms used in perovskite band gap prediction, including Random Forest, Support Vector Regression, and Boosting methods. The results reported in the literature indicate that these models achieve competitive performance metrics when trained on suitable datasets, reinforcing the potential of the hybrid approach between DFT and ML. Finally, it is discussed the importance of the continuous expansion of datasets for better interpretability of the models, the careful selection of descriptors, and the investigation of compositional engineering strategies for consolidating the advantages of perovskites as promising materials for emerging optoelectronic technologies.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Impacto do fogo em estruturas de madeira: aplicação de otimização para treliças submetidas a incêndio(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Moraes, Matheus Henrique Morato de; Pereira Junior, Wanderlei Malaquias; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2268506213083114; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7404-3666; Christoforo, André Luis; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7623383075429186; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4066-080X; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8465474056220474; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7285-1344; Cerqueira, Niander Aguiar; Campos, Cristiane Inácio de; Marvila, Markssuel Teixeira; Ferreira, Flávio Antônio; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1313037582197604; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1216644357418833; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6558498396502163; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4942342683462986This work investigates the optimal design of Howe-type timber trusses under normal and fire conditions, with the objective of understanding the effects of fire on structural efficiency and on the selection of cross sections. The research is based on a gap in the literature regarding integrated methodologies that combine thermal analysis, structural modeling, and optimization applied to timber truss systems. A procedure is proposed that is capable of quantifying the influence of thermal degradation on the resistant and geometric behavior of the members, in addition to providing parameters for preliminary design under fire conditions. The methodology employs a deterministic formulation coupled with the Firefly Algorithm, which is responsible for searching for configurations with minimum structural weight, with simultaneous verification of ultimate and serviceability limit states, geometric constraints, slenderness, and minimum admissible areas. Four spans (6, 9, 12, and 15 meters) and three fire exposure times (10, 20, and 30 minutes) are analyzed, considering the thermal and mechanical properties of five timber species (Cambará-rosa, Cupiúba, Angelim-pedra, Garapa, and Jatobá). Each combination is evaluated through thirty independent runs, allowing the statistical characterization of the obtained solutions. The effects of fire are quantified by means of the Gross Area Correction Index (ICAB) and the Gross Weight Increase (IPB), used as measures of the increase in cross sections and the increase in structural mass required to compensate for the loss of resistance caused by charring. For 10 minutes of exposure, a maximum ICAB equal to 3.48 was observed, indicating localized increases greater than 240% of the initial gross area, while the maximum IPB reached 57.68%. At 20 minutes, the maximum ICAB was 2.78, associated with a maximum IPB of 97.13%, indicating the possibility of an almost doubling of the structural mass. For 30 minutes, the maximum ICAB remained at 2.78, suggesting stabilization of the geometric requirements imposed by normative constraints, while the maximum IPB reached 155.30%, indicating that the total mass of the truss may more than double. In all scenarios, the solutions remained within normative limits, with negative values of the constraint function g. The results confirm that fire exposure time exerts a decisive influence on the design of timber trusses, with IPB being highly sensitive to thermal severity, while ICAB provides an objective measure of the geometric requirements imposed by charring, offering consistent quantitative support for preliminary structural design under fire conditions.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Empreendedorismo e gênero: uma análise das percepções de mulheres empreendedoras(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Veron, Samara Olartechea; Pires, Aline Suelen; https://lattes.cnpq.br/8860270341724853; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5932-1050; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5302483615121382Entrepreneurship has been growing as an alternative to salaried employment in Brazil, consolidating a work culture adapted to conditions of unemployment and insecurity, in which workers individually assume responsibility for all risks. For women, entrepreneurship is presented not only as a way to reconcile productive and reproductive spheres, due to the flexibility of working hours, but also as a means of confronting gender inequalities in the world of work. The aim of this study is to investigate the perceptions of women entrepreneurs in São Carlos regarding the reconciliation between the demands of entrepreneurship and care work. To this end, we employed a semi-structured interview methodology with ten local women entrepreneurs. The analysis of the interviews revealed a duality in flexibility: on the one hand, it provides greater freedom in organizing work routines to meet care obligations; on the other, it intensifies working hours, leading women to assume multiple roles and making it difficult to delineate the boundaries between these two spheres. Thus, although entrepreneurship is presented as a solution to break with gender inequalities in work, these women continue to perform traditional gender roles and experience an intensification of work.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Análise de vibração aleatória em um veículo baja baseada em entrada PSD determinada experimentalmente(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Roman, Ana Beatriz Matias; Moreno, Mariano Eduardo; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1307496862518321; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3322023953386618Baja vehicles are a category of off-road vehicles designed to withstand adverse terrain conditions. In Brazil, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) promotes regional and national Baja competitions, in which vehicles are developed by Brazilian universities. The chassis is a vehicle component whose purpose is to ensure driver safety and to support the other Baja subsystems within its structure. Currently, the roll cage is regulated to guarantee driver safety, restricting the combination of materials, as well as the diameter and thickness of the tubes that compose it (or materials with equivalent strength). Therefore, in order to understand the effects of impacts and vibrations to which a chassis is subjected, a modal analysis of the complete Baja vehicle of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) was performed, followed by vibration testing on the structure, enabling comparison with the developed computational model. Subsequently, the modal results were used in a spectral analysis of the roll cage by considering vibrational inputs originating from the ground, which were obtained through an experimental test. Thus, based on the results obtained, it was possible to analyze the dynamic behavior of the roll cage structure and to obtain parameters (reaction forces at the wheels) for the design of the vehicle suspension components.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, The Penelopiad: (meta)re-visão crítica(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Souza, Juliana Cristina Terra de; Ferreira, Carla Alexandra; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5522506928191940; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2706-5766; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9563961120440497; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6659-1542; Rodrigues, Raquel Terezinha; Gomes, Izaquiel Mateus Macedo; Martins, Ana Paula dos Santos; Morais, Fernando Luís de; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2468134516070432; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7087622691252971; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2930561645515473; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0859645199642709This study aims to demonstrate how The Penelopiad (2006), written by Canadian author Margaret Atwood, can be understood as a critical meta-revision in which the novel simultaneously draws upon the classical tradition and feminist revisionist models while also questioning and transforming their paradigmatic elements. The analysis seeks to identify the conditions of possibility and the social significance of the new re-vision proposed by Atwood, exploring the political unconscious represented in the book – from the perspective of Fredric Jameson’s (1992) – in relation to the social condition of women in contemporary society. For this purpose, the research employs the concept of metacommentary (Jameson, 1992) as applied to interpretive codes related to texts engaged in critical revision of tradition, combined with an analysis of the horizons of interpretation and the strategies of containment present in the corpus, supported by Jameson’s theoretical and methodological framework.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Síndrome de Esmeraldite: o profissional médico como paciente e o viés de gênero(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Buttarello, Arieli Januzzi; Leite Júnior, Jorge; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7253561448346772; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0025070249068009; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5269-5313; Perrusi, Artur Fragoso de Albuquerque; Moretti-Pires, Rodrigo Otávio; Ferreira, Carolina Branco de Castro; Bonelli, Maria da Gloria; https://lattes.cnpq.br/0486688276534915; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5045216268657919; https://lattes.cnpq.br/5958888750081899; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1739441747281321This work begins with a medical term, "Emeraldite Syndrome," which indicates the difficulty medical professionals have in assuming the role of patient when ill. Through bibliography that touches on the issue posed by the term, it discusses medical professional identity and the gender norms that shape it. The theoretical framework is mainly guided by the concepts of hegemonic masculinity, by sociologist Raewyn Connell, and gender performativity, by philosopher Judith Butler. Data collection was carried out through interviews with male and female physicians in order to understand the meanings given to the condition of being a patient within the medical field and their experiences as patients. The analysis concludes that the crisis faced by medical professionals in the condition of being a patient is permeated by reinforcements and tensions in the gender hierarchy, which shape medical practice, the ways in which male and female physicians give meaning to their own experiences and situations of vulnerability and care.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, A forma e o contexto: testes experimentais da camuflagem de ninhos em duas espécies de aves da Mata Atlântica(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Martins, Cassiano Bueno; Francisco, Mercival Roberto; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4305313620456233; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3868268628896932; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9553-8799; Ferreira, Marco Aurelio Pizo; Dias Filho, Manoel Martins; Galetti Junior, Pedro Manoel; Reis, Matheus Gonçalves; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1663295770796752; https://lattes.cnpq.br/1346547036069954; https://lattes.cnpq.br/7398754661670478; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2925754537368211The Atlantic Forest is one of the most diverse and threatened ecosystems on earth, harboring a rich avifauna of great ecological relevance. Despite the remarkable bird diversity, substantial knowledge gaps on their reproductive aspects still persist, particularly on the antipredatory strategies. Nest predation is the main cause of avian reproductive failure, representing one of the strongest selective pressures molding their biology. Such pressure influences both nest-site selection and nest design, reducing the probability of detection by predators. Among antipredator strategies, camouflage stands out as a central mechanism to decrease the conspicuousness of nests and eggs, especially against visually oriented predators. Although most studies have focused on species that lay their eggs directly on the ground, the camouflage function of nests built on the vegetation, a common pattern among passerines, remain poorly explored. Moreover, the distinct modes of nest detection, i.e. visual or olfactory, suggest that different predator types impose specific selective pressures on nest form, material, and placement. In this context, this thesis is composed of two independent chapters, each designed to test, through field experiments, the camouflaging function of nests from two bird species of the Atlantic Forest. In the first chapter we investigated whether the “tail” of the blue manakin (Chiroxiphia caudata) nests acts as disruptive camouflage, reducing detection by visually oriented predators. The results showed that tailless nests were preyed upon about ten times more frequently than those with tails, and all recorded predation events were caused by visual predators, highlighting the functional role of the “tail” in decreasing nest detectability. In the second chapter, we evaluated whether the ornamentation of lateral branches and tail in nests of the white-throated spadebill (Platyrinchus mystaceus) function as an extended phenotype with a camouflaging role. Although no significant difference in predation rates was found between ornamented and non-ornamented nests, the consistent pattern of material addition and the resemblance to the surrounding substrate suggest a potential adaptive function of camouflage. Together, these results reinforce the importance of camouflage as an evolutionary force shaping the design and placement of tropical bird nests. They also highlight that ornamental feature, such as the “tail” of Chiroxiphia caudata nests and the decoration around Platyrinchus mystaceus nests may represent functional components of nest architecture, resulting from natural selection mediated by visual predation.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Análise dos valores de mercado e dos prêmios de seguro de veículos em uma região do interior paulista(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-12-04) Brandini, Eloah Assine; Moura, Maria Sílvia de Assis; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9410151859448447; https://lattes.cnpq.br/9657958068557712This study examined the relationship between the average market values of popular vehicles and their corresponding automobile insurance premiums in the Greater Campinas region from 2016.1 to 2021.2. The research began with the consolidation and standardization of datasets from SUSEP and the Fipe Table (via Kaggle), organized in Excel to ensure consistency across vehicle models and semesters. Six widely marketed vehicles in Brazil were analyzed: Ford Ka, Hyundai HB20, Nissan March, Renault Sandero, Toyota Etios, and Volkswagen Gol. The descriptive analysis revealed substantial variation in both market prices and insurance premiums across models and over time, indicating that these variables do not evolve proportionally. These findings supported the use of two complementary statistical approaches. The Beta regression model, applied to the premium-to-value index, showed a downward trend in several semesters and highlighted differences between vehicle models and policyholder profiles. The Gamma regression model, used to analyze premiums in absolute terms, confirmed the influence of vehicle value, average claim cost, and exposure on insurance pricing. Diagnostic and calibration analyses indicated satisfactory fit for both models. Overall, the results show that insurance premiums and vehicle market values do not follow parallel trajectories over time. While some models exhibited significant appreciation, the relative cost of insurance decreased, suggesting structural changes in portfolio behavior and in the insurance market. The combined use of relative and absolute modeling approaches provided a comprehensive understanding of how multiple factors interact in the formation of automobile insurance premia.
