Item type:Item, Tempo de trabalho, tempo de estudo: experiências de jovens mulheres do coletivo Da Raiz ao Fruto(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-17) ;Cantalejo, Marriete de Sousa ;Corrochano, Maria Carla ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/7714353975585252 ;https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8030-6461https://lattes.cnpq.br/8840741483054239This study investigates the role of the Da Raiz ao Fruto Collective as a space of resistance and community care in the face of the neoliberal scenario of precarious work and social acceleration (Rosa, 2019). The central objective is to analyze to what extent the organization of the collective enables young mothers to resignify experiences of youth and other temporalities through community care. Grounded in the sociologies of time and gender, the thesis uses the categories of sexual division of labor (Kergoat, 2009) and supports (Martuccelli, 2007) to understand how the intersectionalities of race, class, and territory traverse the use of time. This qualitative research involved administering sociodemographic questionnaires to 16 young women, completing time-use diaries (referring to Wednesdays and Saturdays) with 13 participants, and conducting 13 semi-structured interviews between September 2023 and the first half of 2024. Active participant observation was also used between November 2022 and May 2024. The results show that young women tend to postpone motherhood and marriage as a strategy to increase the time dedicated to academic training, seeking to combine personal fulfillment with qualified entry into the job market. A generational "protection pact" was identified, in which the mothers of the participants assume reproductive work to enable their daughters' education. Although young women are reached by public education policies, a gap is noted in public policies focused on work and care for this population. It is concluded that, despite the overload and temporal desynchronization, the collective acts as an essential support and safe space, promoting leisure experiences and autonomy that allow young women to subvert the logic of immediacy and seek temporal emancipation.Item type:Item, O Programa Institucional de Acolhimento e Incentivo à Permanência Estudantil (PIAPE) - tecendo presença, cuidado e pertencimento(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-17) ;Castelani, Gisele Aparecida Zutin ;Riscal, Sandra Aparecida ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/8209718458963475 ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9814956676596270Ribeiro Júnior, DjalmaThis thesis’ purpose is to analyze the “Programa Institucional de Acolhimento e Incentivo à Permanência Estudantil - PIAPE”, at the Federal University of São Carlos (PIAPE), which aims to encourage welcoming, the students permanence, to tackle institutional violence and situations of socio-economic vulnerability. Therefore, the field of research was the projects submitted to the Dean’s Office of Community and Student Affairs at the Federal University of São Carlos. The research involved projects during the years 2019-2023. For the quantitative and qualitative research, the instrument used was the projects and their reports (final, project coordination, scholarship holder and user reports) that took place before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. In the systematization presented here, we started from the Public University for Whom path, relating it to themes such as Affirmative Action Policies and the Student Assistance Program, seeking to talk to policies and mechanisms that create environments that, in addition to inclusion, create spaces for permanence, bonding and support networks. To compose this rescue and contribute to the object of the research, a brief incursion was made into the Federal University of São Carlos with regard to its history in the battlefront for a public university for all and the Pro-Rectory of Community and Student Affairs, and important markers for the program's proposal that guided the research: 1) "How did the projects behave during this pre-pandemic, pandemic, and post-pandemic journey?" "What lines of research do the projects fit into?" What was the quality of the actions that reached the people served by the projects, both as coordinators, as active scholarship holders, and as users and users participating in the actions. The aim was to present the projects developed in this timeframe (2019-2023), which contribute to student permanence, through collective strategies, promotion of spaces for care and belonging related to gender issues and racial ethnic demands in public universities, collective construction of coping strategies for current challenges related to academic daily life, such as fears, anxieties, mourning, isolation and belonging, in this way the analysis sought to be a parameter for future calls for proposals, with the proposal to promote fairer, more equitable and humane insertions in public higher education in this country. Finally, as a product of this thesis, an ebook was produced with the projects and photos.Item type:Item, Avaliação de UX de Sistemas ADAS para ecossistemas de trânsito urbano: um conjunto de diretrizes orientadas à simulação em ambientes imersivos(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-17) ;Barros, Anelise Neves de ;Zaina, Luciana Aparecida Martinez ;http://lattes.cnpq.br/0192085115595443 ;https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1736-544Xhttp://lattes.cnpq.br/0466369271206804Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have been applied to increase traffic safety and assist drivers while driving. In this context, driving simulators have been used as tools for studies on driver behavior, allowing the analysis of human and cognitive factors without exposing participants to real risks. However, there are still gaps in the evaluation of user experience in driving simulation environments, especially regarding the lack of guidelines for evaluating user experience and configuring the simulation environment. In this scenario, the objective of this dissertation was to propose a set of guidelines to support the evaluation of driver experience during interaction with ADAS systems in driving simulators. To achieve this objective, the research was conducted in multiple stages. Initially, a literature review was carried out to understand the concepts related to user experience evaluation, human-computer interaction, ADAS systems, and driving simulators. Then, an experimental study was conducted using a driving simulator to investigate aspects related to workload, situational awareness, and driver performance during simulated driving. Based on the results obtained from the literature and the experimental study, an analysis of the information was conducted, resulting in the development of guidelines to support user experience evaluation in this context. These guidelines were then validated by specialists through focus groups, allowing the analysis of the clarity, relevance, and application of the proposed guidelines. The results indicated that the guidelines support the planning and conduction of user experience evaluation studies in driving simulators involving ADAS systems. As the main contribution, this dissertation presents a set of guidelines that can support researchers and developers in evaluating driver experience and configuring traffic simulation environments.Item type:Item, A prática da biblioterapia na perspectiva de bibliotecários: estudo misto-exploratório(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-17) ;Costa, Larissa Santos da ;Galvão, Maria Cristiane Barbosa ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9163421021115381 ;https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3971-5743https://lattes.cnpq.br/3349842763502783In this study, a developmental bibliotherapy approach was adopted, aimed at promoting well-being, self-knowledge, and socio-emotional strengthening through the mediation of literary reading and the use of texts with metaphorical foundations as a resource. The study was based on the role of the librarian as the mediator of the reading and reflection process, without connection to clinical psychotherapeutic treatment. The general objective of the study was to analyze how librarians were involved in bibliotherapy practices, based on the analysis of scientific production in the field and the perceptions of Brazilian librarians regarding institutional and professional preparedness for the implementation of such actions. From this perspective, the research focused on the following problem: how is the involvement of Brazilian librarians in bibliotherapy practices configured, considering levels of knowledge, education, and professional practice? To this end, a mixed-method approach was applied, with an exploratory nature and a sequential design (QUAL>QUAN), consisting of a literature review and a cross-sectional quantitative study using an online questionnaire administered to Brazilian librarians, whose data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and content analysis. In the qualitative phase, the study analyzed national and international scientific publications on bibliotherapy, which were categorized into four thematic axes: 1. overview and conceptualization of bibliotherapy; 2. bibliotherapy for specific population groups; 3. bibliotherapy in different contexts and types of libraries; and 4. professional education and practice of librarians in bibliotherapy. The results highlighted the diversity of contexts in which bibliotherapy is applied, such as hospitals, universities, schools, and community spaces, as well as training gaps that indicate the need to consolidate bibliotherapy as a field of study and professional practice. In the second stage, 208 librarians participated in the study, distributed across different Brazilian states and predominantly working in university, school, and public libraries. The results revealed that the majority of respondents, 165 (79%), did not receive specific training in bibliotherapy during their undergraduate studies, although they expressed interest in learning about or expanding their knowledge of the use of reading as a care resource. The findings also revealed a lack of awareness of existing initiatives, as well as challenges for implementation, particularly related to structural and institutional limitations. It is concluded that, although bibliotherapy is not yet widely institutionalized, there is a promising scenario marked by interest in learning about and organizing informational processes related to bibliotherapy. Based on these findings, a conceptual model is presented, which systematizes guidelines for the implementation of bibliotherapy in information units.Item type:Item, Revisão sistemática da literatura de modelos de otimização para o planejamento de redes de logística reversa de resíduos eletroeletrônicos(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-22) ;Ballerini, Lizete de Paula ;Toso, Eli Angela Vitor ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/6663631731115739 ;https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7531-0300https://lattes.cnpq.br/1813756661264536Global waste generation is rapidly increasing; in response, industries and policymakers are prioritizing circular economy initiatives and waste recycling to reduce environmental impact and operational costs. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is among the fastest-growing waste streams, and while it contains hazardous materials, it also offers opportunities for resource recovery. However, managing WEEE is complex due to the high capillarity of collection points and the challenges of transport logistics. The literature on optimization models for reverse network planning problems and decision support systems can help solve these problems, improving efficiency and environmental performance in Reverse Logistics and Closed Loop structures. This dissertation examines optimization models for Reverse Logistics network planning, analyzing how social, environmental, and economic factors are considered in decision-making, such as facility location, transportation, inventory management, and network design. The findings reveal that in WEEE Reverse Logistics, only 38% apply the closed-loop system, reflecting its logistical and technological complexities. Cost minimization remains the dominant objective in 19% of the models, but 60% integrate environmental considerations and 19% adopt a Triple Bottom Line approach, incorporating economic, environmental, and social dimensions. Despite transportation being a critical factor in reverse logistics planning, 22% of the models address the selection of transportation modes. These findings highlight the need for optimization approaches that integrate multi-objective decision-making and sustainability-oriented frameworks. By addressing these gaps, this research contributes to strengthening WEEE Reverse Logistics, providing support for the construction of more efficient, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable systems.Item type:Item, “Novos complexos quadráticos planos contendo tiossemicarbazonas derivadas de salicilaldeído: investigação da atividade antitumoral em modelos celulares 2D e 3D”.(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-22) ;Teixeira, Tamara ;Rocha, Fillipe Vieira ;http://lattes.cnpq.br/5841127259122766 ;http://lattes.cnpq.br/6134388681686521https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3227-9395Cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, highlighting the need for the development of more selective and effective therapeutic agents. In this context, metal complexes containing thiosemicarbazones have attracted considerable interest due to their structural versatility and their potential to modulate relevant biological properties. The present study aimed to synthesize, structurally characterize, and evaluate the antitumor activity of new Pd(II), Pt(II), and Ni(II) complexes containing salicylaldehyde-derived thiosemicarbazones associated with triphenylphosphine. Characterization of the compounds by molar conductivity, infrared and UV–Vis spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction confirmed the formation of neutral complexes with distorted square-planar geometry, in which the thiosemicarbazones act as tridentate (O,N,S) ligands. The complexes exhibited high stability in solution, consistent with multidentate coordination and the structural rigidity of the system. Cell viability assays revealed that cytotoxic activity was restricted to complexes containing the D2 ligand, bearing two nitro groups, in ovarian cancer cell lines, with particular emphasis on the Pd(II) complex, which showed the highest activity. Morphological and clonogenic assays demonstrated that the PdD2 complex exerts both cytotoxic and cytostatic effects, in addition to displaying greater selectivity toward tumor cells. Mechanistic studies, employing fluorescent probes and flow cytometry, indicated that the compound induces cell death predominantly through apoptosis, associated with alterations in the cell cycle, loss of membrane integrity, and depolarization of the mitochondrial membrane potential. Furthermore, experiments in three-dimensional models demonstrated that the PdD2 complex retains its activity in more physiologically relevant microenvironments, affecting the morphology, growth, and viability of tumor spheroids. Taken together, these results position the PdD2 complex as a promising candidate for the development of new thiosemicarbazone-based antitumor agents.Item type:Item, Um modelo de classificação híbrido para identificação de estudantes universitários com depressão(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-22) ;Ribeiro, Evandro Yudi Alves ;Valejo, Alan Demétrius Baria ;http://lattes.cnpq.br/9546164790189830 ;https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9046-9499Neris, Vânia Paula de AlmeidaDepression is a serious mental health condition that is more prevalent among college students, compared to the general population. Moreover, it is a consensus that early identification is crucial for effective mental health treatment. Recent advances in Machine Learning (ML) have explored Digital Phenotyping (DP) data for depression detection, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) applied to social network data have been used to detect depressive symptoms, achieving accuracy rates of 70–80%. Despite these advances, each data modality presents limitations. Sensor data captures physiological behaviors but is less effective at identifying depressive mood, while textual data better reflects depression related thoughts. Although achieving promising results, there are still few studies investigating the combination of these modalities. In this context, this study developed a hybrid model integrating mobile sensor data and NLP-extracted textual features to identify Possible Depressive Profile (PDP) in college students. To leverage the experiments on the combination of these data modalities, two approaches were tested: feature-level integration and late fusion of predictions. The hybrid model did not surpass the baseline model, achieving 73% accuracy, slightly below the sensor-only baseline (79%), while late fusion reached 70% accuracy and 77% recall for true positives identification. The identified limitations relate to the scarcity of textual data and challenges in NLP feature extraction, which motivated further exploration of the fusion strategy.Item type:Item, Relação entre estrutura e atividade catalítica do cobre na hidrogenação do CO2 para formação do metanol(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-22) ;Simionato, Arnaldo Agostinho ;Santos, João Batista Oliveira dos ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/0285313473901330 ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/2322073284273845Moreira, Regina de Fátima Peralta MunizIn the context of the commitments made under the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels by mid-century, there is a clear need to transition current energy systems and to develop effective technologies for carbon dioxide (CO2) utilization. Among the strategies under investigation, the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol has attracted considerable attention, both as a means of mitigating atmospheric CO2 and as a route to convert it into value-added chemicals. Methanol is a key commodity in the chemical industry, with global production exceeding 90 million tons in 2025. It is widely used as a solvent and as a feedstock for the synthesis of numerous chemical products. A variety of catalysts have been explored for methanol synthesis via CO2 hydrogenation, with copper-based systems consistently showing the most promising performance, particularly in terms of cost-effectiveness and activity. However, the relationship between catalyst structure and activity remains a matter of ongoing debate. In this work, the effect of Cu particle size on methanol synthesis was investigated. Cu/Zr-SBA-15 catalysts were prepared by the impregnation method and characterized using X-ray diffraction, nitrogen physisorption, H₂ temperature-programmed reduction, N2O decomposition and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS). These analyses confirmed the successful preparation of catalysts with a range of particle sizes, with estimated diameters between 4.1 and 35.3 nm. Catalytic testing showed that CO2 hydrogenation to methanol follows behavior consistent with a class π reaction, although only minor variations were observed across the samples. Mechanistic insights obtained from ME-PSD-DRIFTS (Modulation-Excitation Phase Sensitive Detection Diffuse Reflectance Fourier Transform Spectroscopy) suggest that either the hydrogenation of methoxy species or the desorption of methanol is the slow step in the reaction. Apparent activation energy measurements indicated values below 44 kJ/mol for all catalysts in methanol formation. Taken together, these results suggest that methanol desorption is the rate-limiting step, possibly due to its interaction with oxophilic sites associated with zirconium.Item type:Item, Manejo de Megastigmus transvaalensis (Hymenoptera: Torymidae) e produtividade de Schinus terebinthifolia (Sapindales: Anacardiaceae) em área de restauração(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-22) ;Massamba, Sandra Fazenete Picardo ;Freato, Thiago Archangelo ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9898307927648033 ;Ferreira Filho, Pedro Joséhttps://lattes.cnpq.br/3952696627229150Efficient, sustainable, and economically viable control methods are studied for monitoring forest pests, such as the exotic wasp Megastigmus transvaalensis Hussey, 1956 (Hymenoptera: Torymidae). This wasp damages the drupes of the Brazilian pepper tree Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi, 1820 (Sapindales: Anacardiaceae) in native forests, restoration areas, and commercial crops in Brazil. Given the economic value of S. terebinthifolia and its applications in food seasoning, traditional medicine, cosmetics, bioactive compounds, the pharmaceutical industry, biopesticides, flavoring, and the recovery of degraded areas, there is a need to protect its drupes from M. transvaalensis attacks in the field. This study aimed to: i) use a physical barrier to prevent M. transvaalensis attacks and determine the parasitism rate in S. terebinthifolia drupes; ii) evaluate the drying kinetics of the drupes in the laboratory; and iii) estimate the plant's productivity in the field. Five fragments of seasonal semideciduous forest undergoing ecological restoration, with sixteen randomly selected S. terebinthifolia plants, were used. A physical barrier made of non-woven fabric (TNT) (25 cm long x 21 cm wide) was used as a treatment and applied for approximately 120 days. In the drying study, mature drupes were subjected to different temperatures (30°C and 105°C), with moisture content and mass reduction data fitted to exponential and hyperbolic models. For productivity estimation, data on diameter at breast height (DBH), total tree height (Ht), and crown area (Acrown) were collected from 16 individuals, applying Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to reduce dimensionality and predict yield. The parasitism rate was higher (60.45%) in the unprotected treatment and lower (8.06%) in the treatment protected with the fabric barrier, preserving the embryonic and epicarp integrity of the drupes. The hyperbolic model demonstrated statistical superiority, showing performance indicators for predicting both moisture content (R2Adj = 0,98; AIC = 196,52; RMSE = 0,55; X2red = 0,308) and mass reduction (R2Adj = 0,954, AIC = 254,50; RMSE = 0,706; X2red = 0,507), outperforming the exponential model. The drying kinetics showed a maximum initial rate of 0.7916% h-1 with a sharp reduction after 24h (0.1112% h-1); based on the asymptotic point (y = 1.9%), a period of 48 hours (0.0421% h-1) was established as ideal for dehydration. Finally, the productivity modeling integrated dendrometric variables and parasitism rates monitored throughout the field study, revealing that isolated variables such as DBH (p = 0.021) showed instability in the models due to multicollinearity. Thus, PCA was performed, with the first component (PC1, plant vigor) standing out as the most reliable predictor of productivity (R2Adj = 0.27; p = 0.0204), while the average parasitism rate by M. transvaalensis (P_Average) showed no significant direct linear influence on the studied sample (n = 16). In conclusion, the integration of physical exclusion methods and mathematical modeling establishes fundamental guidelines for post-harvest management and the reproducibility of forest restoration processes with S. terebinthifolia.Item type:Item, Entre a prescrição e a incorporação do tempo: o paradoxo do desempenho na formação de jovens engenheiros: Uma análise crítica das experiências de estudantes e egressos da Engenharia de Produção no processo formativo e profissional(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-22) ;Silva, Mayra Resende Mendes de Oliveira ;Saltorato, Patrícia ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/4086015205835355 ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/1229697327422129https://orcid.org/0009-0001-2073-0321The social organisation of time constitutes a central element in shaping modern work and in the production of performance-oriented subjectivities. In contemporary capitalism, the intensification of temporal rationality permeates not only productive spaces, but also formative processes, particularly in technical-scientific fields such as Production Engineering. With this in mind, the present work aims to investigate how young students and graduates of the Production Engineering course at UFSCar experience the relationship between prescribed time and lived time throughout their formative and professional trajectories. The research is relevant insofar as it analyses time as a historical, technical, and moral construction within a field marked by rationality and metrification. The theoretical framework draws upon studies in the social history of time, sociology of work, critical theory of capitalism, and the psychodynamics of work. A qualitative approach was adopted, combining prosopographic analysis with a Bourdieusian reading of trajectories, based on thirty semi-structured interviews with agents who are socially situated within the field of study. The findings indicate that the internalisation of time as a moral principle of performance generates paradoxes and tensions, which are further reinforced by the formative process. The prescription of time is gradually transmuted into the incorporation of time, becoming an integral part of the young engineer's habitus. It is concluded that training in Production Engineering may be configuring itself as a structuring and structured instrument of temporal formation, aimed at producing an accomplished manager of systems who, paradoxically, tends to remain a prisoner of the very time he himself helps to accelerate.Item type:Item, Efeitos da fragmentação florestal sobre a predação de ninhos e comunidades de aves nidificantes da Mata Atlântica do Sudeste do Brasil(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-23) ;Bruno, Dáfini Letícia ;Francisco, Mercival Roberto ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/4305313620456233 ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/5279431080415485https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7709-0620Habitat loss and the resulting fragmentation are the primary drivers of biodiversity decline in terrestrial ecosystems. Birds respond rapidly to the effects of fragmentation, with changes in diversity, ecology, behavior, and reproduction. Nest predation is the leading cause of mortality in birds and may be intensified in fragmented habitats due to an increase in number or frequencies of generalist predators, which in the absence of top predators may increase in abundance (mesopredator release hypothesis). In this context, this thesis has as its central objective to evaluate the effects of fragmentation on the survival of forest bird nests in tropical environments, being structured in two chapters. The first chapter had as objectives to identify and compare the main nest predators in continuous and fragmented areas of the Atlantic Forest, as well as to test for the first time the mesopredator release hypothesis for a tropical forest. For this, active nests of understory birds were analyzed in one of the main continuous forest tracts of the Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil and in adjacent fragments. The nests were monitored in the field by camera traps, which enabled the identification of predators and the modelling of nest survival. Additionally, bird and mammal samplings were carried out to evaluate the assumption that nest predators may be more abundant in fragments due to the rarity of regulating carnivores. The results did not provide support for the tested hypothesis, since the frequencies of regulating carnivores; nest predators and nest survival rates were similar between habitats. The second chapter focused on the breeding activity hypothesis, which predicts a lower number of reproductive species and lower offspring production in fragmented environments. Using active nests as direct evidence of reproduction, nesting species richness was compared, as well as nest frequency and survival between continuous and fragmented habitats. The results did not indicate significant differences in nesting species richness between the environments, although the total frequency of nests and of certain species were higher in the fragments. Overall, the results suggest that in landscapes still relatively preserved, forest fragments may maintain relevant ecological processes and sustain reproductive bird communities. However, this apparent stability is accompanied by changes in community composition, with replacement of more sensitive species by generalist species, which may imply long-term effects on the ecological integrity of these systems.Item type:Item, Raw data used for determining the ionization energies of dimers of small molecular clusters(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-23) ;Souza, Gabriel Luiz Cruz de ;Peterson, Kirk Arnold ;Santos, José Luiz Felix ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/2821352329397835https://lattes.cnpq.br/3442700129094678Item type:Item, Modelagem matemática da reforma a vapor do etanol(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-23) ;Sgobi, Marcus Vinicius ;Ribeiro, Marcelo Perencin de Arruda ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/0381402687491195 ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/5091119086062042Cruz, Antonio José Gonçalves daThe historical global dependence on fossil fuels and the growing concern regarding the worsening of the greenhouse effect demand the diversification of the energy matrix towards more sustainable alternatives. In this scenario, hydrogen stands out as a promising energy vector due to its high energy density and the absence of greenhouse gas emissions during its use. Although current hydrogen production is dominated by fossil methane steam reforming, steam reforming of ethanol emerges as a new sustainable route. To make steam reforming of ethanol viable, supported catalysts, such as Nickel and Cobalt-based bimetallics, have shown great potential in inhibiting coke formation and increasing the H2 yield. However, the high chemical complexity of the ethanol molecule generates various parallel and consecutive reactions, which hinders the elucidation of the process kinetics. Based on this context, the present work proposed a reaction pathway and, from it, developed a phenomenological kinetic model capable of describing steam reforming of ethanol for hydrogen production. Using experimental screening data previously obtained by the research group, the study implemented and compared three different algorithms for the parametric fitting of the developed model: Non-Linear Least Squares, Simulated Annealing, and the Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy. Before the parametric fitting, a thermodynamic analysis proved that the experimental screening tests operated far from equilibrium. The fitting results highlighted the limitations of traditional deterministic optimizations, emphasizing the robustness of the evolutive algorithm in bypassing local minima and performing uncertainty estimation through confidence intervals. Although the preliminary data were limited, they proved to be sufficient to estimate the initial kinetic parameters. This study aimed to evaluate integrated management strategies for the vector and HLB in a young Valencia orange orchard under the influence of different rootstocks (citrandarins IAC 3155, Barretos, Itajobi, Santamélia and the citrumelo Swingle), planting spacings (1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 m) and control strategies (physical barrier with processed kaolin and chemical control with thiamethoxam via drench). The experiment was conducted at the Sylvio Moreira Citrus Center in Cordeirópolis, SP, evaluating vegetative development, sprouting dynamics, psyllid population fluctuation, HLB incidence and severity, as well as the residual effect of the insecticide. The results demonstrated that vigorous rootstocks (IAC 3155 and IAC 3073 Barretos) induced greater canopy growth, while IAC 3026 Santamélia confirmed its dwarfing characteristic. Higher planting density (1.5 m between plants in the row) accelerated coverage in the planting row and reduced the total intensity of sprouting. A strong positive correlation was found between sprouting peaks and population outbreaks of D. citri, with the Swingle and IAC 3073 Barretos rootstocks favoring greater attraction of the vector. Fortnightly spraying with kaolin acted as an effective physical and visual barrier, reducing the insect population density by up to 72% during peaks. Although the incidence of HLB remained high (>90%) throughout the area, kaolin significantly reduced disease severity and symptom progression, with optimized protection in denser plantings. In chemical control, the rootstock variety did not influence the insecticide's efficiency, which showed excellent control and residual effect for 56 days, covering two reinfestation cycles. From the 57th day onwards, the depletion of the molecule's systemic protection in the plant reduced the product's effectiveness. It is concluded that the adoption of less vigorous rootstocks, combined with denser planting and the combination of kaolin with systemic insecticides, constitutes a strategy for mitigating the HLB-psyllid complex.Item type:Item, Mecanismos de trincamento por fadiga em revestimentos asfálticos reforçados com geogrelhas: interação entre aderência de interface e rigidez do reforço(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-23) ;Santos, Karolina Maria dos ;Silva, Matheus Pena da Silva e ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/8819593174579282 ;https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7009-4458Correia, Natália de SouzaThe incorporation of geosynthetic reinforcements at the interface between asphalt layers has been widely adopted as a strategy to extend pavement service life, contributing to the reduction of permanent deformation, the improvement of fatigue resistance, and the mitigation of reflective crack propagation. In this context, numerous studies have been conducted to better understand the mechanical behavior of reinforced asphalt systems and to provide guidance for the appropriate selection and design of these materials. In particular, the literature has extensively discussed the effects of geosynthetic reinforcement inclusion on flexural performance and interface bonding conditions between asphalt layers. However, significant knowledge gaps still remain regarding the mechanisms governing the effectiveness of these reinforcements throughout the pavement service life. In particular, there is a need for a deeper understanding of the interaction between interface bonding and reinforcement stiffness, as well as the influence of these parameters on the initiation, evolution, and propagation of damage within reinforced asphalt systems. This limitation hinders the advancement of mechanistic approaches and the development of rational design methods for geogrid-reinforced asphalt pavements. In this context, the present study investigates the combined influence of interface bonding and geogrid stiffness on the fatigue performance of reinforced asphalt systems at different stages of their service life, using Digital Image Correlation (DIC) as a strain-fieldbased evaluation tool. For this purpose, an 80 m experimental section was constructed on SP-225 State Highway, comprising one unreinforced segment and three reinforced sections using polyester (G-PET), polyvinyl alcohol (G-PVA), and fiberglass (G-FV) geogrids. Specimens extracted from the field section were tested in the laboratory through Leutner-type interlayer shear tests and four-point bending fatigue tests (4PBT) under cyclic loading with DIC monitoring. The present study has advanced the understanding of the mechanisms governing the fatigue of asphalt pavements reinforced with geogrids, demonstrating that structural performance results from the interaction between interlayer bonding, reinforcement properties, and loading levels. The results highlight that the analysis of these systems under cyclic loading requires an integrated approach, combining traditional fatigue parameters, improvement factors, and image-based analysis via DIC. This integration was essential to explain results that might appear contradictory when evaluated in isolation. Four primary crack reflection mechanisms were identified. The results indicated that the effectiveness of the reinforced systems depends on the loading level, with improved performance observed at the lower load levels tested, which are more representative of actual pavement service conditions. The effectiveness of the reinforced systems was found to be strongly dependent on maintaining adequate levels of interlayer bonding, which is essential for the mobilization of the reinforcement and the transfer of stresses throughout the loading process. The study concluded that interface bonding is the key parameter governing reinforcement mobilization and the resulting performance gains, controlling the efficiency of crack mitigation systems regardless of the stiffness of the reinforcement employed. Overall, the performance of these systems cannot be attributed to a single isolated parameter, but rather to the complex interaction among geosynthetic stiffness, interface shear strength, applied stress level, and the evolution of damage mechanisms throughout the service life of the pavement structure.Item type:Item, As diferenças nos processos de tomada de decisão da inteligência artificial e dos seres humanos no laboratório jogo de xadrez(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-23) ;Andrade, Leo Pasqualini de ;Valejo, Alan Demétrius Baria ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/9546164790189830 ;https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9046-9499Iasulaitis, SylviaArtificial Intelligence is an interdisciplinary field of study. Pioneers in computer science, mathematicians, and engineers envisioned the possibility of a computer simulating human thought through different computational methods, for example, artificial neural networks, inspired by biological research in the then-embryonic neuroscience. Philosophers and psychologists joined the field's research, addressing questions about the possibility of artificial intelligence thinking and having consciousness. The testing ground for artificial intelligence was chess, an ancient game with simple rules and complete information, which, in order to play it, reveals elements of human reasoning, such as selective attention, pattern recognition, abstractions, and logical reasoning. The calculations of variations in chess are performed with great accuracy by current artificial intelligence algorithms such as Stockfish and AlphaZero, but still present questions to be resolved by computer scientists in order to reach solutions conceived by human abstraction. Although the performance of chess engines has been extensively studied from a computational perspective, there is a gap in the literature regarding the systematic comparison between human and algorithmic decision-making processes in the same experimental environment. The objective of this thesis is to understand the differences, symmetries, and controversies between artificial intelligence and human intelligence in decision-making, based on a chess game laboratory. This thesis contributes to the literature by offering a novel interdisciplinary comparative analysis of human and algorithmic decision-making processes in the chess game laboratory, articulating empirical evidence, cognitive foundations, and sociotechnical interpretation. The methodological steps used were based on Bruno Latour's Actor-Network Theory, which proposes the idea of actants, where humans and non-humans join together in a network of actions. A literature review was conducted using the keywords chess, intelligence, and decision-making; an online survey was carried out with chess players on aspects of pattern recognition, abstraction, and to obtain opinions on problem situations in the context of chess. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted with computer scientists, neuroscientists, and chess masters to discuss the topic of artificial intelligence and the game of chess. The results indicated that, while chess engines predominantly compute using probabilistic calculations and tree search, humans mobilize pattern recognition from their long-term memory acquired through study and learning, as well as emotional and contextual components. It was observed that chess players with greater playing strength showed a greater ability to recognize patterns, while less experienced players resorted to mental calculations. The interviews revealed controversies among computer scientists, neuroscientists, and chess masters regarding the notion of engines simulating emotions and making abstractions. Conclusion: although chess algorithms have already surpassed humans in the game, controversies are still observed regarding these programs' understanding of game situations and their failure to consider artistic-cultural, ethical, and emotional biases—characteristics associated with human behavior and creativity. On the other hand, chess programs are tools that assist masters in their analyses before and after games and help players of all levels as a source of leisure and learning.Item type:Item, Detecção de objetos de trânsito da simulação para o mundo real: um estudo de adaptação de domínio não supervisionada em nível de pixel e de características(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-23) ;Medeiros, André Neves ;Almeida, Tiago Agostinho de ;http://lattes.cnpq.br/5368680512020633 ;http://lattes.cnpq.br/6707942601520564Papa, João PauloTraining object detection models for real-world applications often requires large amounts of annotated data, which can be costly and time-consuming to obtain. Synthetic datasets provide a scalable alternative, enabling automatic annotation and controlled data generation. However, models trained exclusively on synthetic data typically suffer from performance degradation when applied to real-world images due to domain shift. This dissertation investigates simulation-to-real domain adaptation for object detection, focusing on the combination of pixel-level and feature-level adaptation strategies. At the pixel level, CycleGAN is used to translate synthetic images into the visual style of real-world datasets, reducing low-level discrepancies between domains. At the feature level, the ConfMix framework is adopted as a baseline for unsupervised domain adaptation, leveraging confidence-based mixing between labeled source samples and pseudo-labeled target samples. Building upon these approaches, this work proposes TransConfMix and TransConfMix-2Stage variants, which incorporate translated synthetic images into the adaptation process, and a KL-regularized extension (ConfMix-Distill) that enforces consistency between predictions obtained from original and translated versions of the same sample. These modifications aim to improve adaptation stability and enhance model generalization under domain shift. Experiments are conducted on multiple synthetic-to-real scenarios, with DOLPHINS and SIM10K as source domains and Cityscapes and nuScenes as target domains. The results demonstrate that feature-level adaptation consistently improves over the source-only baseline across the evaluated scenarios, and that pixel-level translation can further support this process when translation quality is sufficiently high. However, the proposed hybrid extensions did not consistently surpass the original ConfMix framework, suggesting that the interaction between pixel- and feature-level adaptation is highly sensitive to domain characteristics and translation fidelity. Overall, this work provides a systematic analysis of the interaction between pixel-level and feature-level domain adaptation, showing that their combined effect in object detection is strongly dependent on translation fidelity and domain characteristics.Item type:Item, Comportamento estrutural de pilares de aço preenchidos com concreto de agregado reciclado cerâmico submetidos à compressão axial(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-23) ;Prates, Lucas Mognon Santiago ;Ferreira, Felipe Piana Vendramell ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/5933034803347448 ;https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8007-789XMartins, Carlos HumbertoConcrete-filled steel tubular columns are an efficient structural solution for compression members, since the interaction between the steel tube and the concrete core contributes to increased strength, stiffness, and ductility. At the same time, the growing demand for more sustainable solutions in the construction sector has encouraged the use of industrial waste as a replacement for natural aggregates. In this context, the feasibility of using recycled ceramic sanitary ware aggregate as a replacement for natural sand in self-compacting concrete for steel composite columns subjected to axial compression is assessed, considering its effects on material properties, structural behavior, and strength prediction by numerical and design code models. For this purpose, the constituent materials were characterized, and two self-compacting concrete mixes were analyzed, with natural fine aggregate replacement levels ranging from 0 to 100% in the first mix and from 0 to 50% in the second, in 25% increments. Subsequently, 24 experimental axial compression tests were carried out on circular concrete-filled steel tubular columns, comprising 16 short columns and 8 columns of intermediate slenderness. In addition, a finite element numerical model was developed in ABAQUS, validated against the experimental results, and used in a parametric study with 1,442 models, varying geometric and mechanical parameters as well as the recycled aggregate replacement level. The results indicate that the incorporation of recycled aggregate reduces the workability of the mixtures, without preventing the production of self-compacting concretes with satisfactory performance. It was found that increasing the replacement level does not necessarily lead to strength loss, with strength gains observed at certain replacement levels, depending on the mix composition. In the composite columns, the structural behavior was consistent with steel-concrete composite action, with efficient filling of the tube and mobilization of confinement in the short columns, whereas, in the slender members, the response was predominantly governed by global instability. Among the replacement levels evaluated, the 25% replacement level showed the most balanced performance for structural application, as it maintained a more stable response under different conditions. The numerical modeling satisfactorily reproduced the experimental response, and the parametric study confirmed global slenderness as the variable with the greatest influence on member efficiency. It is concluded that the use of recycled sanitary ware ceramic aggregate in self-compacting concrete for filling circular concrete-filled steel tubular columns is technically feasible and structurally promising, combining satisfactory mechanical performance, reuse of industrial waste, and potential application in structural concretes.Item type:Item, Estratégias de acesso e mediação para repositório de informação tecnológica integrada(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-24) ;Erba, Ana Guelfi ;Zaniro, Dênis Leonardo ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/0800017967297543 ;https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2638-9264Quoniam, Luc MarieThis work presents the development of an integrated repository of scientific and technological effects, with the objective of mitigating the information transfer barrier identified in an originally static knowledge base. The research, of an applied and empirical nature, was conducted to enable the conversion of a vast stock of inventive problem-solving solutions into an accessible and usable knowledge flow. Initially, a diagnostic evaluation of the spreadsheet database was carried out, identifying critical gaps in interoperability and accessibility that limited the strategic use of the data, as advocated by international guidelines for open data. The methodological path involved the logical structuring of the data, adopting a specific data type to favor the coherent representation of the content in multiple languages. Subsequently, a mediation artifact was developed—a Web system structured based on Usability principles, aiming to optimize the efficiency of human-computer interaction and information retrieval. To complement the exact relational search methodologies, the system's architecture incorporated Artificial Intelligence features through the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technique. The implemented technological solution met the proposed objectives by establishing multiple specialized access strategies. The system enables searches from different perspectives, connecting the abstract knowledge of inventive problem-solving solutions to industrial and patent classifications, which adds strategic value to technological information. The final adherence evaluation of the artifact evidenced the alignment of the architecture with the pillars of findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability. It is concluded that the work provides an empirical mediation model that reiterates the relevance of the Scientific Information area in the organization and architecture of knowledge access for socioeconomic development. The solution not only contributes to broadening access to the resource but also enhances its utilization as a strategic and reusable asset.Item type:Item, Estruturas híbridas de poliamida 6-madeira (eucalyptus grandis) sobremoldadas por injeção(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-04-24) ;Zanchetta, Giovana Zanetini ;Canto, Leonardo Bresciani ;https://lattes.cnpq.br/7287108960864123 ;https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4138-005Xhttps://lattes.cnpq.br/4463643206121785Polymer–wood hybrid (PWH) structures represent a promising alternative for sustainable structural applications. This study introduces the development of hybrid joints composed of polyamide 6 (PA6) and Eucalyptus grandis wood produced by injection overmolding, without the use of adhesives or chemical surface treatments. Two scarf joint geometries with single and double chamfers at 45° were designed and evaluated in terms of mechanical performance and interfacial adhesion mechanisms. Shear strength was determined through quasi-static mechanical tests, while the interface was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X‑ray microtomography (µCT). Microstructural analyses revealed a well‑defined interface, with PA6 penetrating wood vessels and forming polymer protrusions (~50 µm) that promote mechanical interlocking. Mechanical tests showed good repeatability, with hybrid joints reaching shear strength values of up to 8.1 ± 0.6 MPa, comparable to those reported in the literature for polymer–wood hybrid lap joints. Complementary digital image correlation (DIC) analyses indicated efficient mechanical coupling between the components, with a more homogeneous strain distribution for the single‑chamfer configuration, suggesting more effective stress transfer under mechanical loading.
