This dissertation was developed with the aim of reflecting on the position occupied by indigenous women at the intersection of domestic and political-ritual spheres. Drawing on themes related to women’s daily activities, I sought to understand how gendered roles and knowledge are articulated to ensure the reproduction and continuity of Tukano-speaking clans in the Uaupés River region, and thereby to investigate whether the extra-human otherness activated in ritual contexts is also present in the exercise of everyday life. This investigation was conducted through a cross-referenced literature review of two sets of works: the ethnographies by Christine Hugh-Jones (1979), Dany Mahecha (2004), and Melissa de Oliveira (2016); and the articles by Geraldo Andrello and João Vianna (2022), Pedro Lolli and Geraldo Andrello (2024), and Geraldo Andrello and Luiz Nascimento (2024), whose formulations were examined in light of the discussions developed by the first three authors and in conjunction with the large-scale comparative work of Luisa Elvira Belaunde (2005). The broader arguments put forward by these authors—briefly introduced in the opening chapter—are explored in depth in chapters two, three, four, and five, which, in that order, consist of reviews of the ethnographies by Christine Hugh-Jones (1979), Dany Mahecha (2004), and Melissa de Oliveira (2016), as well as analyses of issues and hypotheses related to the topic. This approach prompted me to consider the role of the placenta and breastfeeding within the described interweaving and, thus, to examine the issue of women’s participation in the collective reproductive process from other perspectives.

Traditionally, the structural condition of electrical distribution assets is assessed through field inspections and visual analyses conducted by technical teams, a process that is time-consuming and presents limitations for the overall evaluation of the electrical network. In this context, this work proposes the use of image recognition techniques associated with a trained computational model, specifically MobileNetV2, to classify images of concrete utility poles as being in good or poor condition, thereby supporting maintenance assessment. The project was implemented using the Python programming language, open-source libraries for image processing, and a computational model previously trained on the ImageNet dataset. Transfer learning was applied while keeping the layers responsible for feature extraction frozen. A dataset assembled by the author containing 150 images, equally distributed between the two classes, was used. The images were resized, normalized, and subjected to data augmentation techniques. During the evaluation of the test set, the model trained with cropped images achieved accuracies of 95% and 85% for the first and second image distributions, respectively. However, errors still occurred in the identification of poles in poor condition. Based on the results, it was concluded that the proposed approach has potential as an auxiliary inspection tool; however, it is not yet sufficiently reliable for autonomous classification. Therefore, expanding the image dataset and improving data preprocessing procedures are still necessary.
