Resumo

The increase in solid waste generation by the urban population can be explained by the intensification of the urbanization and/or verticalization process of cities. About 84% of the Brazilian population currently lives in urban areas, so as to overload the sanitation systems, to consider, collect and dispose of waste. The objective of this study is to identify, analyze, propose improvements and define best practices for solid waste management in a residential condominium in the southern zone of the capital city of São Paulo. National and regional waste management policies and plans were analyzed in this study. The study was developed based on the Zero Waste concept. The practices of collection, storage, transportation, destination, and final disposal of waste were observed for both scenarios, collective and individual. Gravimetric analysis practices were applied to the weighing and separation of recyclable waste. The data obtained was analyzed with the purpose of offering recommendations for the optimization of SUW management in residential condominiums in an adequate manner, promoting the detour of waste from landfills in a gradual and progressive manner. Thus, good SUW management practices could be recommended to the condominium manager, aiming at optimizing the internal process and making available an updated model so that other condominiums may adjust the management of these materials.
