Resumo
Utility tokens are any digital asset that has a benefit attached to it, whether physical or digital, in addition to its speculative value. Benefits can include access to a certain group of services, participation in prize draws, discounts on future purchases, or basically any quality that separates the holders of such tokens from ordinary consumers. Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are examples of digital assets that also have the characteristic of being unique and indivisible, as well as being validated via
blockchain-based mechanisms. The use of NFTs as utility tokens to access services could represent a major revolution in terms of security and practicality, integrating the physical and virtual worlds. This paper seeks to provide information on the use of NFTs, covering their various applications, their operation and the creation process, as well as exploring different ways of solving common problems in accessing services (whether physical or digital) such as duplicate and/or shared access, credential forgery or even currency exchange. In this way, the aim is to exemplify the usefulness of NFTs in solving the obstacles currently present in controlling access to services, such as cultural events, streaming subscriptions or SaaS, while maintaining the practicality of access control mechanisms, but adding all the security of a blockchain system.
