As verdades da mentira: ensaio etnográfico com folhetos de cordel

Abstract

This dissertation proposes an essay based on three ethnographic experiences with folhetos de cordel booklets of narrative poetry from Brazilian Northeast. The starting point is my participation in the development of new instruments of classification for folhetos s collections at the archives of the Brazilian Studies Institute of the University of São Paulo (IEB--‐USP). In first chapter I describe the archive life through an ethnographic account of the day--‐to--‐day activities in this environment that remains unfamiliar for the majority of anthropologists, and which led me to meet the poets themselves in the Northeastern state of Pernambuco. The second chapter refers to a brief ethnography with some eminent poets, among them J. Borges. His poetic concept of lie appears in third chapter as an ethnograp
