Proposta para aplicação de desbaste no acervo da Biblioteca Comunitária da UFSCar
Resumen
The Community Library (BCo) of the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar)
has a lack of physical space for the growth of library collections and at the same time keeps bibliographies that may not be anymore interesting of making part of Basic and
complementary bibliography for teaching plans of undergraduate courses of this university. The lack of bibliographic material thinning policy has been an obstacle for the administration of the library with the aim to remove the collection that is not
interest of the users of the BCo and consequently make the better use of the library's physical space, such as the inclusion of new acquisitions and/ or expand study spaces to users. The aim of this mastering dissertation is to evaluate the
bibliographic collection of BCo and propose a thinning policy to contribute to the rationalization of physical space. For this, are considered the lack of relevant circulation of the collection of the last 3, 7 and 10 years respectively, by existing
knowledge area on the campus of UFSCar in San Carlos city. The methodology approach is the action research, providing both participation of the professional staff of the BcO and the community as well, as the expected implementation of thinning practices that should result of this dissertation.
