Abstract

The production of Ren ethanol for commercial purposes must comply with the specifications established by the National Petroleum Agency, both in terms of the alcoholic concentration of the product and the limits of permitted impurities. Therefore, the objective of this work was to present the techniques used in Plant "X" to remove the impurities presents in the production process of the ethanol in question. From the case study of the distillation system and the chemical and chromatographic analysis data present, the basis for discussion was obtained. With this, the operation of the bleeding-degassing system used to remove impurities and the use of sodium hydroxide to reduce crotonaldehyde indices in Ren ethanol was discussed. Finally, the efficiency of the contaminant removal system used was verified, in addition to the correlation demonstrated between crotonaldehyde and the pH of the final product.
