Abstract

The textile industry is one of the largest consumers of synthetic dyes, causing significant environmental impacts due to the intensive use of chemicals and water. Biopigments, produced by genetically modified microorganisms, emerge as a sustainable alternative to replace these conventional dyes. This study analyzes recent advances in genetic engineering applied to biopigment production, highlighting genetic modification strategies for optimizing biosynthesis and fabric fixation. Furthermore, it discusses major industrial applications, technological challenges, and the adopting of biopigments in the textile sector.
