Resumo
This qualitative, bibliographical study aims to understand the contributions of artistic languages to the literacy process of children in the first and second grades of elementary school, as well as to analyze how the arts can promote the development of reading, writing, and critical thinking, expanding learning opportunities and the construction of knowledge. Studies reveal that the arts are fundamental to the development of children's expression and thought, especially in the early years of elementary school. Including art and its multiple languages in teaching processes contributes significantly to more engaging and complex learning by stimulating creativity, the possibilities of personal expression, and fostering critical thinking regarding lived experiences. This work connects with authors such as Malheiros (2011), who sees bibliographic research as an essential way to engage with existing knowledge and thus deepen understanding. The relevance of art in literacy is strongly highlighted by Ana Mae Barbosa (2010), an important voice in Art/Education in Brazil, as she highlights that art is vital to human development.
