Resumo

Nutritionally unbalanced products have contributed to the alarming increase in chronic non-communicable diseases, such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular problems. In this context, front-of-pack nutrition labeling has emerged as an important regulatory strategy to inform consumers about the risks associated with excessive consumption of certain ingredients, promoting more conscious food choices. Countries such as Chile, Argentina and Brazil have adopted different approaches to implementing these labels, with emphasis on the use of clear and easy-to-read nutrition labels. The successful implementation of these regulations has the potential to generate a positive impact not only on consumer health, but also on innovation and transparency in the food industry. Therefore, front-of-pack nutrition labeling in South America is a reflection of the social and economic transformations in the region, with direct implications for public health and the business models of food companies. A comparative analysis of the different models adopted by South American countries offers a broad view of the challenges and opportunities present in this constantly evolving scenario.
