Resumo
This study aimed to understand how communication occurs in the game Rainbow Six Siege (R6S) and how this communicative exchange takes place in a competitive virtual environment that requires cooperation among players to achieve collective objectives. Analyzing hypothetical situations and fragments of real matches, the application of Grice's conversational maxims (1967[1975]) and the relevance of Sperber and Wilson's Relevance (1986[1995]) were highlighted. In Manninen's Interaction Forms and Communicative Actions in Multiplayer Games (2003), it was revealed how each communicative strategy is articulated by different ways of causing implicit inferences in speech. The research revealed the linguistic adaptability of players, evidenced by specific game expressions, direct orders, and repetitions, demonstrating a sophisticated understanding of communicative dynamics in R6S. Communication, beyond being a mere exchange of data, plays a vital strategic role in team success, particularly in decisive moments of the game. The research contributes to the theoretical understanding of language in digital environments, offering relevant concepts for linguistics and pragmatics researchers, as well as professionals in the gaming industry. In summary, communication in R6S not only facilitates coordination among players but also proves to be a crucial strategic tool for team success in a challenging and constantly evolving virtual scenario.
