Resumo

The training of pedagogue in Brazil licenses him/her to teach in early childhood education and in the early years of primary education, and to work in the management of basic education schools but does not always prepare him/her sufficiently for administrative and bureaucratic activities, particularly those related to financial management and accountability, of educational institutions. This work aims to understand, through bibliographical research and qualitative analysis, how the school manager, with emphasis on the school director, learns to carry out the accountability of the school unit, locating technical and political aspects of their administrative training and identifying the challenges faced in financial management. The results indicate doubts and contradictions in public policies and processes of decentralization, autonomy and management of schools, in addition to lack of specific knowledge for financial execution and accountability on the part of school managers. Thus, administrative qualification is emphasized, not only pedagogically, but also financially, ethically and politically in the initial and continuing training courses for teachers and professionals in management team of public schools, transcending the learning acquired in daily practices.
