Resumo
Faced with the need to size automotive systems and components, there are usually difficulties in selecting inputs for performing effort calculations. Therefore, understanding how the vehicle's behavior impacts that system is important to choose parameters that are closer to reality. When it comes to the suspension system, this phenomenon becomes an even greater challenge, as there are several factors that affect its performance. Thus, this work brings an analysis of how lateral dynamics influence the design of automotive suspension, focusing on the vertical accelerations of the wheels in different trajectories and conditions. The purpose is to obtain inputs for the design of components through simulations of real operating situations. To do this, a Formula SAE type vehicle with seven degrees of freedom was modeled, considering the vertical displacements and the forces generated by the lateral load transfer during curves. The model was created based on the theory of Vehicle dynamics and implemented in the MATLAB software. Iterations were made varying the radius of the curve and the speed, using as a reference a track profile with irregularities according to the ISO 8608 standard. The results were analyzed from the qualitative perspective of the fatigue failure theory, distinguishing them between causes of medium and alternating stresses, in addition to discussing the performance against Goodman's criterion. Based on the study carried out, lateral dynamics has its indispensable consideration for the sizing of suspension components, based on acceleration inputs obtained by simulations.
