Starteca: biblioteca universitária como hub de inovação

Abstract

The activities of the entrepreneurial university include carrying out disruptive activities aimed at innovation and technological and social academic entrepreneurship, in this context the activities and competencies of the university library are expanded. The general objective of this research was to investigate the role of the university library as an innovation hub for the entrepreneurial university, using performance indicators applied to innovation and academic entrepreneurship. Participant research was used as a method and the research object was the Biblioteca Comunitária of the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar), focusing on the “Starteca – espaço empreender” initiative. Participant observation and categorical content analysis techniques were used to collect and analyze information. The results achieved included: 1] elaboration and analysis of the timeline, involving the indication of the main events related to the implementation and operation of the Starteca initiative and the strengthening of UFSCar's innovation and entrepreneurial culture, as an entrepreneurial university; 2] Starteca: university library as an innovation hub – based on the concepts of innovation ecosystem, Triple Helix, entrepreneurial university, among others, the main actors involved with the Starteca initiative were identified and characterized, seeking to externalize the impact of the university library on academic community and society and; 3] Starteca - performance indicators applied to innovation and academic entrepreneurship - comprising the characterization of the BU's performance as an innovation hub. It is concluded, based on theoretical discussions, involving the results achieved, that the use of performance indicators applied to innovation and academic entrepreneurship can contribute to the description and understanding of the disruptive practices of the university library as an innovation hub for the entrepreneurial university.
