Resumo

The history of the deaf community is characterized by the struggle for their rights and spaces in society, including educational spaces. Despite the achievements, the community continues to face barriers concerning inclusion and its insertion in society, which is by right. The legislation guarantees access for deaf people to educational spaces, such as Law No. 10.436/02 and Decree No. 5.626/05, which recognize Brazilian sign language (BSL) as a legal means of communication and guarantee bilingual education. Other laws and decrees exist, but inclusion and teaching are only partially effective. It is crucial to recognize that inclusion alone is not enough. Apart from including deaf students at school, it is essential to think about methodologies that help professionals in the classroom since many concepts are abstract and hard to understand in Biology. Thus, this work aims at creating an accessible didactic material in BLS using the taxidermized animals of the Fauna Laboratory (LabFau) of UFSCar - Araras to assist in the teaching of Natural Sciences with a focus on the area of Conservation and protection of Biodiversity, according to the Curriculum of the State of São Paulo. A discussion on the importance of teaching materials accessible to deaf students in High School is proposed. This work contributes to the reflection of undergraduate students and teachers on the importance of using accessible didactic materials in BSL for teaching deaf students. Accessible material was produced by photographing taxidermized animals using different perspectives. A presentation was prepared that contained short videos in which information about the animals was presented in BSL. Five taxidermized animals of the Mammalia class and Eutheria subclass were used. Such didactic materials give access to visual and spatial information to deaf students, permitting a greater understanding of Biology content. This work should bring the teachers to reflect on the importance of effective inclusion and on methodologies that are accessible to deaf students.
