Resumo

Lying behavior is a complex phenomenon and has been studied in various fields of Psychology. Preventing the development of lying behavior is of great importance, especially in childhood, as this behavior becomes more complex in adulthood and involves a significant loss of reinforcers. So far, no literature review has been conducted on studies investigating lying behavior from a Behavior-Analytic perspective. Thus, this scoping review aims to synthesize the behavioral literature on lying behavior and provide recommendations for future research. Following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, this study searched for articles in the PsycINFO and PubMed databases. The selection process involved removing duplicates using the Rayyan platform and screening studies based on inclusion and exclusion criteria from titles and abstracts. Additional articles were selected through reference searches in the chosen studies, totalizing 23 studies included in this review. The results indicated a predominance of publications in Portuguese, primarily involving children as participants, along with a scarcity of studies on adults and atypical populations. A high variability in the terminology of the dependent variable was observed, suggesting the need for standardization. Correspondence training (CT) was found to be effective in increasing report accuracy, but there is a lack of research on alternative or complementary interventions to CT. The need for applied research is highlighted, as well as the investigation of variables that increase or decrease report accuracy in naturalistic contexts.
