Resumo
This study analyzes the phenomenon known as queerbaiting in the television series Supernatural (2005), focusing on the construction of the character Dean Winchester with the goal of investigating how narrative, audiovisual, and extratextual elements suggest the possible bisexuality of the character without effectively confirming such representation. Through a qualitative, bibliographic, and interpretative approach, based on the analysis of episodes and statements made by actors, writers and producers, the findings indicate that Supernatural employs elements that allow ambiguous interpretation of Dean’s sexuality, while avoiding its confirmation and delegitimizing this reading, despite the constant demand by the fanbase for more openly queer characters,. We conclude that this practice contributes to the maintenance of heteronormativity and the limitation of LGBTQIA+ portrayals in the media. This research aims to amplify the discussion of representation in audiovisual narratives as well as the importance of more authentic and inclusive content in television fiction.
