“Se eu te contar, você não conta para ninguém?”: compreensão dos efeitos da violação de segredos em crianças de 6 a 8 anos
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2026-07-07) Martins, Ana Luiza Colleoni; Souza, Debora de Hollanda; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3640676759708745; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0485-7787; https://lattes.cnpq.br/2402572501281090; https://orcid.org/0009-0009-7378-8322
Secrets play a fundamental role in social relationships, contributing to the strengthening of interpersonal bonds and to the formation of networks of allies. Although children develop the ability to keep secrets at an early age, their understanding of the social impacts of maintaining or violating the implicit agreements inherent to secrets remains underexplored. The present study investigated children’s understanding of the effects of secrets disclosure, taking into consideration two factors: (a) the degree of closeness between the secret holder and the confidant (friends vs. non-friends) and (b) the severity of the consequences associated with secret´s violation (harmless vs. serious). Participants were 46 typically developing children recruited from a school in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, divided into two age groups: 6–7 years (Mage = 6 years, 4 months; DP = 3.67 months) and 7–8 years (Mage = 7 years, 3 months, DP = 3.54 months). Participants were randomly assigned to one of two conditions: in Condition 1, the secret holder and the confidant were friends, whereas in Condition 2, they were not friends. Children from all conditions watched animated videos and used a Likert scale (ranging from 1 to 5 points) to evaluate the level of closeness between the characters after being exposed to situations in which a secret was either kept or disclosed to a third party. Analyses revealed that neither age nor gender influenced children’s evaluations of interpersonal closeness. A Wilcoxon signed rank test revealed significant differences in proximity level attributed at base line and after story telling: in C1 (Z = -3,92, p < 0,001) and in C2 (Z = -3,84, p < 0,001). Across conditions, children gave significantly lower closeness ratings following stories in which secrets were violated (M = 3,74; DP= 1,74) and higher ratings following stories in which secrets were kept (M = 8,13; DP= 1,68). Furthermore, violations involving serious consequences resulted in lower closeness ratings than violations involving harmless consequences, Z = -2,11, p = 0,04, r = 0,31. Together, the findings indicate that children are sensitive both to breaches of confidentiality and to the severity of their consequences, based on the content of the confidential information. These results suggest that 6- to 8-year-old children understand the important role of keeping secrets in interpersonal relationships.

This work presents the development and evaluation of routines for generating and reading digital holograms using the Python programming language and the LightPipes library. The methodology involved simulating light propagation and diffraction—using the convolution method—for two-dimensional and layered three-dimensional objects, employing an in-line holography configuration. Subsequently, the implemented routines were applied to process holograms sourced from papers on marine zooplankton. The results demonstrate that the holograms computationally generated by these routines adequately preserve information regarding the shape, transmittance, and depth of the simulated objects, allowing for high-fidelity recovery. The routines’ ability to reconstruct images from holograms obtained in real experiments is also demonstrated, even when some experimental parameters are unavailable.

The citrus industry, especially orange production, is highly relevant to the global economic landscape, with Brazil standing out as the leading producer in the 2024/2025 harvest, reaching approximately 13 million tons, representing about 29% of world production. In this context, an important opportunity for improvement in waste management and valorization is evident, since the production of juice and its derivatives generates large quantities of solid waste with high moisture content, intensifying the dependence on drying processes for storage and utilization of these byproducts. Given this scenario, biodrying emerges as a promising alternative for optimizing this process. This study aimed to analyze the effect of different masses of orange solid waste in the bed on the performance of intermittent biodrying with periodic air pulses, seeking to understand the influence of this variable on the process efficiency. The experiments were conducted on a laboratory scale using a fixed-bed biodryer with three masses of residue (2, 4, and 6 kg) and three aeration profiles (15 min/1 h, 15 min/3 h, and 45 min/1 h), maintaining a constant air flow rate of 2.0 m³/h over 72 hours. Temperature and humidity profiles were monitored during the process. The results indicated that beds with higher mass presented higher average temperatures, suggesting greater microbial activity. Regarding humidity, it was observed that the final content was influenced by the degree of contact between the air and the biomass, with better performance associated with longer aeration times. Additionally, it was found that the bed mass impacts the airflow distribution, with bypass observed in beds with lower mass and better air percolation in beds with higher load, which contributed to increased process efficiency.

On the one hand, mechanical strength and thermochemical stability are important properties for the tool material. On the other hand, edge geometry significantly influences the distribution and direction of forces acting in the cutting region. In finish turning, ceramic tools are frequently used due to their high wear resistance, despite their low fracture toughness, which can lead to sudden and unexpected failure. Thus, evaluating the effect of geometric variation and contact conditions is a key point for achieving stability and cut quality. However, for a correct choice, the acting forces and stresses must be properly mapped. This study aims to propose a new method for analyzing failures and acting stresses in different edge geometries. To this end, an analytical model was developed to calculate the stresses acting along the edge radius for 36 types of rounding (K < 1, K = 1 e K > 1) prepared in mixed ceramic inserts (Al2O3-TiCN), discretized by three chamfers and applied in experimental tests on the orthogonal cutting of hardened AISI 4140 steel with constant parameters. The results demonstrated the effect of the geometric parameters of the edge on the stresses acting during cutting, with the maximum stresses occurring at the wear nucleation points, between the end of the edge rounding and the beginning of the tool rake face. The failure probability map and statistical tests revealed an increasing relationship between the maximum shear stress and the edge failure tendency. For the Weibull distribution, a modulus of 4,08 and a minimum stress of 1605 MPa were obtained for the microgeometry Sα = 103,2 µm and Sγ = 179,3 µm, which led to only 1,10% edge failure, therefore, this microgeometry performed best in terms of preventing wear nucleation in the investigated process.

The inclusion of Indigenous people in Brazilian public higher education is a recent development, becoming the focus of more robust federal public policies starting in 2007. This study investigated the experiences of Indigenous university students at UFSCar regarding their integration into the academic environment and its relationship to student retention, using the concept of *Bem-Viver* (Good Living) as a central framework. The methodological approach is empirical and qualitative-interpretative, utilizing a semi-structured interview guide and the "Five Fields Map" tool. Thirteen Indigenous university students were interviewed, and eight completed the Five Fields Map. Thematic analysis identified three empirical categories: i) protective factors (the university, emotional bonds, self-recognition); ii) risk factors (family/cultural separation, student retention challenges, violence, and racism); and iii) factors promoting *Bem-Viver* (sense of belonging, cultural expressions, and connection to nature and ancestry). Family support and the strengthening of ethnic identity emerged as key protective factors, fostering resilience within the academic model. Conversely, the text details critical risk factors, including financial vulnerability, cultural isolation, and the severe impact of structural racism. Student retention relies on a socio-affective support network and affirmative action policies that respect ancestral knowledge. Ultimately, Indigenous academic success transcends the individual degree, representing a political and collective achievement for Indigenous peoples.

The objective of this study is to analyze the use of the term “Gypsy” on YouTube based on the premises of Eduardo Guimarães’s Theory of Event Semantics (2002, 2005, 2007a, 2018). This dissertation draws on theoretical and methodological concepts and categories—such as Enunciation, Enunciative Scene, Rewriting, Articulation, and Semantic Domain of Determination (SDD)—coined by the author to understand aspects related to the meanings associated with the term under analysis. Considering the specific characteristics of online discourse, we also draw on discussions regarding the “cyberspace of enunciation” as discussed by Reis (2015), a notion related to the concept of “space of enunciation” proposed by Guimarães (2002). To achieve this objective, we analyzed utterances taken from two YouTube videos and their respective comments, namely, “The Mystery of the Romani People Throughout History” and “What Is the Origin of the Romani People?”, selected due to their widespread circulation on the platform and the high number of comments associated with the posts. Our research questions focus on understanding what terms are used to refer to Roma in the selected YouTube videos and comments and which historical memories are mobilized through these terms. We are also interested in observing how historical memories and contemporary discourses about the Roma people influence the construction of meanings regarding them, as well as investigating the main themes and narratives associated with the discourses circulating on the chosen platform. We start from the hypotheses that the designations circulating on YouTube regarding the Romani people draw upon historically crystallized meanings, thereby keeping stereotypical and prejudiced meanings about them in circulation; however, we also hypothesize that the word “Romani” may be undergoing a process of re-signification over time as a response to the political and historical transformations that have marked the process of exclusion and marginalization of this group. After analyzing the corpus, we found that our hypotheses were confirmed; the analysis of how the term “Gypsy” is used on YouTube allowed us to observe that many of the themes and narratives regarding this group still relate to stereotypical and prejudiced discourses, with Gypsies being referred to as: “those who teach diabolical things,” “sorcerers,” “gold counterfeiters,” “troublemakers,” and “disruptors of the system,” that is, there is a recurring pattern of narratives that associate this people with illicit, mystical, or disorderly practices, which highlights the resurgence of memorable tropes that contribute to the perpetuation of prejudices against them, even when, in some cases, the speaker appears not to endorse these labels. It was also observed that the construction and legitimization of representations regarding this group remain linked to meanings crystallized during historical periods in which the history of the Romani was disseminated from the non-Romani perspective, thereby perpetuating simplified and stereotypical representations of the Romani people, the normalization of which contributes to the perpetuation of prejudice and, consequently, hatred toward them. However, some utterances also point to processes of re-signification of the word “Gypsy,” especially in discursive events that challenge these crystallized meanings. These results reinforce the idea that the cyberspace of enunciation not only reproduces but also reconfigures historically crystallized discourses about the Romani people.

Within the framework of the SUS (Unified Health System) Transgender Care Process, key health promotion strategies were established: the de-pathologization of transsexuality, the affirmation of the plurality of trans identities, and the autonomy of transgender individuals in making decisions essential for a better quality of life. However, research indicates that healthcare for *travesti* and transgender populations in Brazil remains exclusionary, fragmented, centered on specialized care, and driven by a curative approach. In this context, the autonomy of transgender and *travesti* individuals in the care process is restricted, and the bond between health professionals and service users is fragile, shaped by a structure of medical superiority and rigid care protocols. This study aims to analyze the processes of subjectivation involved in the experiences of users undergoing the transgender care process at a university hospital's sexuality outpatient clinic. This is a qualitative, analytical, and descriptive study that seeks to discuss the typologies of subjectivation reported by users during interviews and in narratives developed during a group workshop.

This research aimed to investigate the subjective experiences of Black women at the university, as well as the challenges they faced and the impact of these challenges on their trajectories within the UFSCar university context—considering the dimensions of race, gender, and class through the lens of dialectical hermeneutics. Furthermore, the study analyzed the dialectical relationship between vulnerability and emancipation in these experiences, highlighting how social markers intersected and influenced these women's persistence and identity within the academic setting. To this end, the study addressed the power relations structuring this environment and the possibilities for transformation, emphasizing strategies of resistance, identity affirmation, and the maintenance of academic trajectories adopted by undergraduate students, *stricto sensu* graduate students, and Black faculty members. The study employed a qualitative approach based on semi-structured interviews with Black women affiliated with UFSCar across three categories: undergraduates, *stricto sensu* graduate students, and tenured faculty. Data analysis was grounded in dialectical hermeneutics, enabling the interpretation of narratives by framing them within the interplay of individual discourses, social contexts, and historical processes. Finally, the study sought to contribute to discussions on race and gender in academia while maintaining scientific rigor, respecting the participants' subjective and unique experiences, and providing insights to help build a more egalitarian and emancipatory academic environment for Black women.

This study analyzes the phenomenon known as queerbaiting in the television series Supernatural (2005), focusing on the construction of the character Dean Winchester with the goal of investigating how narrative, audiovisual, and extratextual elements suggest the possible bisexuality of the character without effectively confirming such representation. Through a qualitative, bibliographic, and interpretative approach, based on the analysis of episodes and statements made by actors, writers and producers, the findings indicate that Supernatural employs elements that allow ambiguous interpretation of Dean’s sexuality, while avoiding its confirmation and delegitimizing this reading, despite the constant demand by the fanbase for more openly queer characters,. We conclude that this practice contributes to the maintenance of heteronormativity and the limitation of LGBTQIA+ portrayals in the media. This research aims to amplify the discussion of representation in audiovisual narratives as well as the importance of more authentic and inclusive content in television fiction.

Cancer represents a complex ecosystem composed of tumor cells and a diverse population of non-malignant cells embedded within an altered extracellular matrix. The tumor microenvironment (TME) comprises various immune cell types, cancer-associated fibroblasts, endothelial cells, pericytes, and several additional tissue-resident cell populations. These host cells were once regarded as mere bystanders in tumorigenesis but are now recognized as playing critical roles in cancer pathogenesis. During vascular remodeling and angiogenesis, for example, endothelial cells upregulate the expression of several cell-surface molecules that promote tumor cell invasion and proliferation, including integrin αvβ3. Integrin αvβ3 is a vitronectin receptor that recognizes the adhesive motif RGD and plays an essential role in directing cell migration. Our group has previously investigated this integrin using the recombinant disintegrin DisBa-01, derived from Bothrops alternatus venom and produced as a His-tag recombinant protein through heterologous expression and purification. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the potential effects of the pharmacological inhibition of integrin αvβ3 on angiogenesis and tumor progression in a syngeneic experimental model of triple-negative breast cancer. The effects of local and systemic inhibition of integrin αvβ3 on primary tumor development were evaluated in female BALB/c mice inoculated with 4T1Br4-mCherry cells. Following tumor establishment, the animals were allocated into two experimental models (Non-surgical Spontaneous Metastasis and Surgical Spontaneous Metastasis), each comprising three groups (Control Group 1, DisBa-01 Group, and Control Group 2), and were treated for a defined period. After euthanasia, tissue samples from multiple organs were collected for subsequent real-time quantitative PCR, histological, and immunofluorescence analyses. The study was approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of the Federal University of São Carlos under protocol number 9550180823. The results demonstrated that pharmacological inhibition of integrin αvβ3 by DisBa-01 modulated the tumor microenvironment, producing both pro-tumorigenic and antitumor effects in both experimental models. Increased collagen deposition was observed in tumors from Experiment 1, whereas a greater potential for tumor recurrence was detected in the DisBa-01-treated group in Experiment 2. In addition, reduced pulmonary metastasis was confirmed by qPCR in both experiments. Comparatively, animals that did not undergo surgery exhibited a better therapeutic response, whereas the surgical model showed greater metastatic dissemination and reduced survival. Collectively, these findings indicate that inhibition of integrin αvβ3 alone was insufficient to restrain tumor progression in vivo, highlighting the need for further studies to elucidate its relationship with the tumor microenvironment.

Bubble columns are widely used in chemical, petrochemical, biochemical, and environmental processes due to their high mass and heat transfer efficiency. In this context, gas holdup is one of the main hydrodynamic parameters, directly influencing reactor performance. This work evaluated the influence of different closure models on the prediction of gas holdup in a bubble column using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations performed in the STARCCM+ software. Initially, a mesh independence study was conducted using the Grid Convergence Index (GCI) to ensure the numerical reliability of the simulations. Subsequently, different turbulence models, bubble diameter models, interfacial force models, and the inclusion of bubble breakup and coalescence mechanisms were investigated. The simulation results were mainly assessed by comparison with gas holdup correlations available in the literature and were additionally confronted with experimental data. The mesh independence study confirmed numerical convergence and the reliability of the adopted discretization. Among the evaluated models, the k-ω turbulence model showed the best performance in predicting gas holdup, presenting the lowest residuals throughout the simulations. Bubble diameter correlations and drag models were found to be the most influential factors in gas holdup prediction, leading to the largest variations in the simulated results, whereas lift and bubble breakup and coalescence models had a smaller impact on this variable. The inclusion of breakup and coalescence models did not lead to consistent improvements in gas holdup prediction, despite the associated increase in computational cost. Furthermore, empirical correlations showed accuracy dependence on the operating range when compared with experimental data, failing to adequately represent all studied conditions. Overall, the results demonstrate that the appropriate selection of closure models is essential for reliable predictions of gas holdup and system hydrodynamics, confirming the potential of CFD as a tool for analysis and support in the development and optimization of bubble columns.

Vicarious Trauma (VT) refers to the psychological changes resulting from continuous exposure to the suffering and traumatic narratives of others and is commonly observed among professionals working with victims of violence, disasters, and other traumatic experiences. VT may lead to emotional, cognitive, physical, and behavioral consequences, including anxiety, stress, depression, changes in beliefs about safety and trust, emotional exhaustion, impaired interpersonal relationships, and reduced mental health and occupational functioning. This study aimed to examine the association between VT and symptoms of depression, stress, and anxiety among professionals working in the Brazilian Psychosocial Care Network (Rede de Atenção Psicossocial – RAPS). The sample comprised 48 professionals aged between 23 and 68 years (M = 37.5, SD = 11.8), most of whom were women (91.7%), self-identified as White (70.8%), single (47.9%), and held a postgraduate degree (45.8%). Most participants (56.3%) reported a monthly income between one and three Brazilian minimum wages, followed by those earning between four and six minimum wages (20.8%), and 41.7% had more than 10 years of professional experience. Participants completed an online survey including a sociodemographic questionnaire, the **Revised Vicarious Trauma Scale (VTS-R)**, and the **Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale – 21 Items (DASS-21)**. The results indicated relevant levels of overall VT (M = 49.56, SD = 8.43), as well as its affective (M = 29.79, SD = 4.27) and cognitive (M = 19.77, SD = 4.94) dimensions. Regarding psychological distress, participants presented, on average, moderate levels of stress (M = 9.83, SD = 6.02), anxiety (M = 6.94, SD = 5.99), and depression (M = 7.92, SD = 6.02). Correlation analyses revealed significant positive associations (p < .001) between VT and all indicators of psychological distress. Strong correlations were found between overall VT and anxiety (ρ = .749) and between overall VT and stress (ρ = .718), whereas the association with depression was moderate (ρ = .637). Furthermore, significant moderate positive correlations (p < .001) were observed between the affective dimension of VT and stress (ρ = .656), anxiety (ρ = .660), and depression (ρ = .602), as well as between the cognitive dimension and stress (ρ = .637), anxiety (ρ = .701), and depression (ρ = .555). These findings highlight the need for ongoing professional training and institutional support to promote the mental health of professionals who provide care to victims of violence.

This study aimed to deepen the understanding of how individuals treated at Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS) construct a perception of themselves in relation to psychiatric diagnosis. Through a qualitative content analysis of semi-structured interviews, it was possible to categorize which aspects of life history relate to psychic suffering, such as family, financial insecurity, violence, and grief. It was also found that psychiatric diagnosis interferes with different areas of life by becoming a target of prejudice and by prompting changes in personal achievements, and that the meaning attributed to it can be either chronic or derived from a single episode. The study was conducted with users of a CAPS II in a mid-sized city in the interior of São Paulo state, taking into account the complexity of individual experiences and the social challenges involved. Data analysis was guided by content analysis, which made it possible to interpret the narratives through the interaction between individual accounts and socio-historical contexts.
Markowitz's portfolio optimization paradigm faces a critical practical obstacle: parameter estimation (expected returns μ and covariance Σ) in finite samples introduces estimation error that degrades out-of-sample performance. DeMiguel, Garlappi, and Uppal (2009) demonstrated that the equal-weight portfolio (1/N) without any estimated parameters is competitive in Sharpe Ratio against formal optimization strategies. This work extends that inquiry by incorporating the Calmar Ratio, which emphasizes tail loss containment, investigating in which performance dimensions the Global Minimum Variance Portfolio (GMVP) outperforms the 1/N allocation in the Brazilian stock market. The methodology implements monthly rolling backtests of both strategies over January 2015–December 2025 using 15 high-liquidity B3 stocks, with varying estimation windows (1, 3, 5, and 10 years). Performance is evaluated by Sharpe Ratio, Calmar Ratio, CAGR, annualized volatility, and maximum drawdown. Results confirm that the 1/N portfolio dominates the GMVP in Sharpe Ratio across both horizons (2015–2019: 0.964 vs. 0.788; 2015–2025: 0.485 vs. 0.429), validating that estimation error in μ annuls the theoretical gains of optimization. Sensitivity to the estimation window revealed a non-monotonic relationship, with a 3-year window producing optimal global performance. However, when the evaluative dimension is the Calmar Ratio, the hierarchy inverts: GMVP registers consistent advantage (2015–2019: 1.313 vs. 1.162; 2015–2025: 0.598 vs. 0.544). Additionally, GMVP exhibits lower volatility (16.11% vs. 20.75% over 2015–2025) and less severe maximum drawdown (−29.5% vs. −38.2%). We conclude that the hierarchy between strategies is sensitive to the evaluative criterion: while 1/N outperforms in total return-adjusted risk (Sharpe), GMVP provides measurable protection against tail losses, relevant for conservative investors. The choice depends on which criterion best aligns with the investor's specific objectives.

Over the past three decades, the phenomenon of outsourcing has structurally altered Brazil's productive base, defining new forms of contracting and inter-company relationships while significantly increasing the precariousness of working conditions in the country. This study aimed to identify and characterize the psychological violence experienced by outsourced cleaning staff at a public university, as well as to analyze the physical and psychological consequences of this phenomenon and the various parties involved—the outsourcing company, the university, and the institution's users. Seven outsourced cleaning workers, all over the age of 18 and employed at the public university for more than three months, participated in the research. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis. The accounts revealed instances of psychological violence perpetrated by various actors, alongside several factors impacting the workers' physical and psychological health, such as the precarious nature of outsourced work, interactions with the university community, and a lack of support from official protection networks. Future studies should focus on developing intervention strategies for this population and raising awareness about this phenomenon within the university environment.

This study aimed to understand religious experiences during childhood within Brazilian Catholic families, interpreting them through the lens of the concept of coercion proposed by Sidman (1989/2009). It is an exploratory, descriptive study using a qualitative approach, conducted via an online questionnaire comprising closed sections (sociodemographic data and twenty 5-point Likert-scale items) and six open-ended questions. Participants included 61 adults aged 18 to 28 (M = 23.08), recruited through convenience sampling and the snowball technique. Sociodemographic data and closed-ended questions were analyzed descriptively, while responses to open-ended questions were organized by recurring themes and interpreted based on the coercion framework. The results revealed significant diversity in the reported experiences: part of the sample described family religiosity as a source of acceptance and bond-strengthening, whereas another segment reported experiences marked by fear, guilt, divine punishment, and restricted autonomy—often associated with emotional distress and subsequent withdrawal from religious practice. The analyses suggest that the impact of religious transmission during childhood stems not from the practices themselves, but from the behavioral contingencies (positive reinforcement or aversive control) that sustain them. This study contributes to expanding a field that remains under-explored in Brazilian literature regarding coercive religious experiences.
