The research aimed to analyze to what extent women's insertion in professional fishing in the Amazon changes and influences in the daily activity of artisanal fishers of Barreirinha (Amazonas). He sought to understand how the exercise of professional fishing interferes with material and symbolic dimensions of relations between the sexes at work; in relations with the organizing bodies of the fishermen; and, in relation to the benefit of unemployment insurance Fisherman Artisanal (SDPA). We hypothesized that the SDPA is changing social roles, to provide a benefit to artisanal fishers. The policy has led women to join the Fishermen Colony (Z-45), in order to have access to the benefit, without, however, changing the family foundations of man as provider. The methodology we chose qualitative research, in which interviews and research the locus of direct observations were formed as indispensable techniques to know, beyond everyday fishing practice, relations between genders and the demystification of panema myth, according to the which the woman would bring a gambling state, to engage in fishing. However, the research concluded that the woman always fished, and with the implementation of SDPA inland, provided the professional recognition leading her to overcome myths and prove that, together with the male figure can be a professional fisherwoman and provider of family unit.
