Resumo

During the drying of monolithic refractory ceramics, it is necessary to control the heating and gain a deeper understanding of the phenomena involved, since if this is not done properly it can result in cracks and fractures in the material. In this work, using finite element simulations, the drying processes of this working layer were analyzed by varying the proportion of the thicknesses of the permanent and insulating layers, in order to determine their impact on the drying process. Based on these scenarios, layers with unusual thicknesses in the industry were simulated in order to better understand the trends when increasing or decreasing the thickness of the insulator in relation to the permanent layer. It was observed that increasing the insulating layer speeds up drying, achieving lower maximum pressure values and consequently a lower resistance ratio. It is also worth noting that with this greater thickness of insulation the heat loss is lower and consequently the energy expenditure.
