Resumo
This work critically analyzes the presence and representation of social inequality, especially poverty, in contemporary Brazilian children's literature, focusing on the catalogs of three major publishers: Companhia das Letrinhas, Editora FTD, and Expressão Popular. Based on specific selection criteria, it investigates how these publishers address sensitive social themes, considering their editorial proposals and available works. The results show that despite advances in including topics such as racial diversity and cultural plurality, poverty remains underrepresented or marginally addressed in commercial publishers. In contrast, Expressão Popular stands out with an editorial line that directly confronts inequalities, focusing on critical formation and the visibility of marginalized childhoods. The article emphasizes the need to expand access to and circulation of these narratives, particularly in schools and libraries, to foster a more plural, ethical, and socially transformative children's literature.
