Despite significant technological advancements, it remains impossible to manufacture a part with dimensions that match the exact specifications of a design. Consequently, discrepancies are observed between the ideal and actual part dimensions. To avoid compromising the performance of machine components or systems, these dimensional discrepancies have been standardized within tolerance ranges according to specific dimensions. Hole drilling is extensively employed in the industry, yet it presents challenges, such as the need for multiple tools to machine larger-diameter holes, leading to increased production time, as well as resulting in average dimensional accuracy (IT10 to IT12) and requiring rework for holes with tighter tolerances. In mold and die milling, the use of helical interpolation for hole-making has emerged as an alternative to overcome inherent challenges associated with hole opening and enlarging. This study aimed to investigate the influence of tool overhang variation on hole-making through helical interpolation, employing the following experimental procedure. The cutting speed was fixed, while two different tool overhangs were adopted: the first with an overhang ratio (tool free length to tool shank diameter) of three, and the second with a ratio of five. Hot-work tool steel workpieces were machined on a CNC machine using solid carbide end mills without cutting fluid. Finally, tool wear, hole diameter, and hole roundness were measured. The results allowed us to conclude that different conditions imposed on the process did not impact flank wear over time, except for the first two holes. Flank wear curves, diameter variation, and roundness deviation displayed a tendency to converge over time, which can be attributed to the anti-vibration characteristics of the tool, as specified in the manufacturer’s catalog. Finally, it was concluded that the hole-making strategy utilized could be adopted as an alternative for machining holes with diameters larger than the tool itself.

O consumo de álcool por homens universitários: uma análise metacognitiva
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024-11-18) Zeuri, José; Schelini, Patrícia Waltz; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6185333517392859
Metacognition is defined as knowledge about one's cognitive processes, including metacognitive knowledge, experience, and beliefs. Metacognitive knowledge involves understanding which factors or variables act and interact in ways that affect the course and outcome of cognitive activities, divided into three factors: person, task, and strategy. Metacognitive experiences encompass any conscious cognitive or affective experiences accompanying and referring to any intellectual event. Metacognitive beliefs are categorized into positive beliefs, such as coping strategies affecting mental states, and negative beliefs related to the meaning, control, and danger associated with certain types of thoughts. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between alcohol consumption in male university students and the aforementioned metacognitive constructs. Sixty-eight male university students aged 18 to 31 participated in the research, responding to a questionnaire with questions related to metacognitive constructs, alcohol consumption, and agreement with social norms expected of men. The questionnaire included the following instruments: Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), which aims to identify different levels of alcohol consumption; the Conformity to Masculine Norms Inventory (CMNI-29), evaluating adherence to behaviors considered masculine for men; the Positive Alcohol Metacognitions Scale (PAMS) and Negative Alcohol Metacognitions Scale (NAMS), analyzing positive and negative metacognitions about alcohol consumption, respectively. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics through JASP (Jeffrey's Amazing Statistics Program). Results indicated a strong correlation between positive metacognitions and alcohol consumption, with moderate correlations found for the association with negative metacognitions. No significant relationships were found between alcohol consumption and most categories of conformity to masculine norms.

O uso de um curta animado como intervenção de curto prazo sobre a criatividade
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2024-11-18) Vieira, André Cazzoli; Schelini, Patrícia Waltz; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6185333517392859
Creativity is a construct that has been thought about and studied since antiquity. Previously, it was considered a gift or innate ability – and current common sense also perceives it this way. Psychology, however, seeks to study creativity systematically, creating theories that elucidate aspects of the creative process, person, and product, and based on these, develops interventions to improve creativity. In this sense, this work will investigate the possibility of using animated short films as a tool to improve creative responses in the short term. The sample consisted of 40 participants, aged between 18 and 25 years, divided into control and experimental groups, who were exposed to question-generation tasks about images. The results were organized, evaluated, and scored in terms of fluency, flexibility (in this case, with the use of three independent judges), and originality. It was not possible to observe statistically significant differences between the questions asked before and after exposure to the animated short film, and directions for future research are indicated based on these results.

The topic of service quality is widely discussed in the literature due to its relevance. Many studies focus on seeking concepts and developing different models for evaluating service quality in various contexts. In the field of public services, quality assessment faces challenges such as limited resources. At public universities, government policies and regulations act as independent variables influencing various aspects of management. Higher education institutions, as public service entities, have the responsibility to meet societal demands. Therefore, it becomes essential to evaluate the services provided. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the quality of services offered through the perceptions of users of the unified course secretary (SCU) at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) in the Araguaia Campus (CUA). This study was structured following the format of a collection of articles, with the results divided into two stages, utilizing a combined quantitative and qualitative approach. The first article consists of a systematic literature review (SLR) whose general objective was to analyze scientific research on measuring service quality in public universities, mainly in administrative service sectors. After selecting 84 relevant articles, it was found that the United States is the country with the highest number of publications on the topic. The main keywords identified were "service quality" and "higher education." The second article consists of research that used the case study method through the SERVPERF questionnaire, document observation, and semi-structured interviews. The general objective of the work is to evaluate the level of service quality based on the five dimensions of quality: Tangibility, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance, and Empathy. The target audience included course coordinators, faculty, and students, totaling 264 completed questionnaires. In addition, 23 interviews were conducted, 16 of which were with course coordinators and seven with professors. Data analysis was conducted through a combined quantitative and qualitative approach. In the quantitative analysis, using descriptive statistics, it was observed that the lowest average was found in the responsiveness dimension, according to the perception of students. Regarding the perceptions of course coordinators and professors, the dimension with the lowest average was tangibility, followed by the responsiveness dimension. However, the dimension with the highest average was assurance, both for coordinators, faculty, and students. Therefore, there is a significant need for improvements in services related to the dimensions of responsiveness and tangibility. In the qualitative analysis, content analyses were conducted where service users expressed dissatisfaction in certain aspects, mainly in the tangibility and responsiveness dimensions. Although praises were noted, shortcomings in meeting the needs of coordinators and faculty were also highlighted. The main suggestions for improvement include defining a more suitable location for the SCU and conducting training courses for sector staff. Limitations and perspectives for future research are also discussed at the end of this study.
