To this end, performance assessment methods have been developed, such as the Procel Edifica Label for Commercial, Service, and Public Buildings, which aims to reduce the environmental impact of constructions through the efficient management of natural resources. This study aims to verify the feasibility of directly extracting the parameters required by the Procel Edifica method from BIM software, using as a case study the Administration building of the Federal University of São Carlos, which has already been certified. Through Autodesk® Revit software, it was found that, out of the 17 required parameters, 6 are natively available in the program, 5 can be obtained through schedules, 2 must be created manually, 3 require external calculations, and 1 cannot be determined. Furthermore, the extracted results were compared with previously established values for the building, revealing that the parameters fully extractable show a good level of accuracy. However, the parameters related to the percentage of facade opening area and the average APP areas, which require supplementation by external calculations, exhibited significant discrepancies, necessitating further investigation into their proper determination. It is concluded, therefore, that the use of BIM tools can significantly aid in gathering parameters for energy labeling, although software limitations and the need for specific adaptations in the model and families prevent the full automation of the process. Nevertheless, the adoption of the BIM methodology proves to be a viable alternative to optimize data collection and support the energy assessment of public buildings.listelement.badge.dso-typeItem, Estudo exploratório do processo de biossecagem aplicado ao controle de umidade da biomassa de cana de açúcar(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2025-07-07) Pimenta, Marina de Brito; Maia, Gustavo Dias; https://lattes.cnpq.br/3804133304643228In Brazil, each metric ton of sugarcane processed in sugar and ethanol mills generates approximately 250 kilograms of biomass in the form of sugarcane bagasse, resulting in an annual production ranging from 5 to 12 million metric tons of this residue. Sugarcane bagasse can be used as an energy source through combustion process. However, sugarcane biomass must be subjected to a moisture control process in order to optimize operation conditions during the combustion. Conventional drying processes are highly costly, so an alternative involves the use of biological heat generated by microbial activity to remove water from the system. This process, known as biodrying, relies on the metabolic activity of microorganisms present in the biomass, which can generate temperatures of up to 70 °C. Nevertheless, studies on biodrying remains limited and there is a significant demand for scientific studies that optimize the development of this process for industrial scale drying of organic solid waste. Therefore, the objective of this study is to present an exploratory investigation of the biodrying process applied to moisture control in sugarcane biomass, utilizing native microorganisms from the biomass. The thermal profile of the system and the mass loss over time were monitored to support the development of process intensification strategies. Three experiments were conducted, adopting a fixed bed configuration, with variations in operating time, aeration regime, initial biomass humidification and turning processes. The results demonstrate that, in the first two short-term experiments, there was no significant increase in temperature and mass loss was minimal, indicating limited microbiological activity. In contrast, the third experiment, which lasted 30 days, employed continuous aeration and periodic turning, resulting in improved thermal performance and a greater mass reduction. However, the temperature values did not reach characteristics of efficient biodrying (above 40°C). The total mass loss was 1,7 kilograms, indicating partial moisture removal and some microbiological activity. Based on this scenario, advanced electrochemical oxidative processes (AEPs) were analyzed as an alternative for pollutant mineralization. AEPs are based on the electrogeneration of oxidizing species, and the choice of material is crucial, as different species will be formed depending on the substance and the process. Therefore, the proposed work aimed to study and compare the anodic properties in chlorine of a promising and inexpensive n-type semiconductor, bismuth vanadate (BiVO4), and the same material doped with 1% ruthenium (Ru), which has excellent electrocatalytic properties. Therefore, through electrochemical and physical characterizations, the response of the doped material was analyzed to degrade two widely used antibiotics, sulfadiazine and sulfamethoxazole. The project began with the synthesis of pure and doped BiVO4 through electrodeposition of a bismuth(III) nitrate solution in ethylene glycol and the addition of a vanadyl acetylacetonate solution in dimethyl sulfoxide, followed by calcination and removal of excess vanadium. It is worth noting that the synthesis of the doped material follows the same procedure, the only difference being the addition of 1 mM ruthenium chloride to the bismuth solution. The materials produced were characterized physically and electrochemically. X-ray diffractometry confirmed the formation of monoclinic BiVO4, and its homogeneous morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The doped material presented some agglomerates in its structure, possibly indicating greater film roughness, which would promote increased contact surface area. It also has a monoclinic structure, similar to the material without the addition of Ru. Furthermore, linear sweep voltammetry of the materials was analyzed over a range of -0.7 to 1.5 V vs. Ag/AgCl/KClsat, and the open-circuit potential was obtained for impedance analysis in sodium chloride solutions. In this context, this study investigates the perceptions of Indigenous students enrolled in the Production Engineering course at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) regarding the competencies and skills developed throughout their undergraduate studies, as well as the potential impacts of this training process on their communities of origin. This qualitative research, conducted as a case study, involved seven students from the Sorocaba and São Carlos campuses through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The results reveal that, in addition to technical training, these students experience the university as a space for dialogue between academic knowledge and traditional wisdom. Areas such as logistics, sustainability, planning, and management were identified as particularly relevant to their community contexts. Despite the challenges faced, such as institutional adaptation and cultural conciliation, the participants recognize that they have been developing the competencies expected for the profile of a production engineer. This study aims to analyze the impact of digital influencers on organizations based on a narrative literature review of academic publications from 2013 to 2025. By examining 18 scientific articles, the research identifies the main benefits and challenges associated with the role of influencers in organizational strategies. Among the positive factors observed are the strengthening of brand credibility, increased audience engagement and reach, direct influence on purchasing decisions, the production of authentic content, and positive effects on financial performance and organizational outcomes. Additionally, the study highlights the growing presence of influencer marketing in B2B contexts, the emergence of artificial intelligence influencers, and the potential of influencers to promote social values and positive behaviors. On the other hand, several risks and challenges were identified, such as loss of authenticity, difficulties in measuring return on investment, lack of regulation, brand reputation risks, and market saturation. Among these wastes, orange peel and sugarcane bagasse stand out due to their high availability in Brazil and their potential for use in thermal treatment systems. Although the biodrying of these materials has been individually investigated, there is a gap in understanding the effects of mixing different biomasses on process performance. This study aimed to evaluate the synergistic effects of the joint biodrying of these two biomasses by analyzing temperature variations within the system and the efficiency of water removal. Three experimental conditions were assessed: pure biomass (100% orange peel and 100% sugarcane bagasse), a mixture with 75% sugarcane bagasse and 25% orange peel, and a mixture containing 50% of each biomass on a mass basis. The hypothesis is that the combination of distinct physicochemical properties of the residues may promote the formation of a more porous and well-oxygenated bed, enhancing microbial activity and, consequently, the generation of metabolic heat responsible for drying. The investigation contributed to the development of more efficient strategies for the utilization of organic waste in thermal processes. The combined biodrying process highlighted the influence of the proportion of different biomasses on process efficiency parameters. A higher presence of sugarcane biomass improved bed porosity, promoting greater airflow percolation and the removal of 2.2 kg of water from the bed. However, a larger amount of orange biomass provided a greater supply of nutrients for the microbiota present in the organic matter analyzed, resulting in the maintenance of high temperatures throughout the entire operation period. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Scopus and Google Scholar databases, employing tools such as Publish or Perish, VOSviewer, and Excel to identify scientific and academic trends regarding the adoption of solar energy in university settings. The results of this analysis were also used to select university campuses globally for case study and comparison with UFSCar's photovoltaic installation. The research thoroughly examined photovoltaic systems at universities in the United Kingdom, Turkey, Spain, the USA, India, and Italy, as these countries stood out in terms of academic output, both in number of publications and citations. This comparative study considered technical, economic, and environmental aspects of the systems, revealing significant variation in installed capacity (from 50 kWp to 4.4 MWp), energy self-sufficiency levels ranging from 12% to 50%, and payback periods between 2 and 11 years, along with different funding models and government incentives, reinforcing the importance of such initiatives. The analysis of UFSCar’s São Carlos campus revealed an annual energy consumption exceeding 8 GWh and presents data from existing initiatives on campus, such as photovoltaic power plants and lighting modernization, which accounted for around 12.5% of the campus's energy consumption in 2022. Furthermore, the analysis identified critical success factors including the need for strategic partnerships and substantial investments, the importance of public policies and government incentives, integration with other sustainability aspects (such as CO2, water, and waste), and the essential engagement of the university community. As main recommendations, the study suggests installing systems on more campus buildings, creating a more complete database on sustainability indicators, increasing monitoring and dissemination of the existing systems, seeking strategic partnerships for expanding the photovoltaic system, and developing a comprehensive sustainability approach on campus. Grounded in attentive listening and the formation of bonds, the report weaves together the concepts of Harm Reduction, necropolitics (Mbembe, 2018), collective mourning (Butler, 2019), and the power to act (Espinosa, 2009), exploring how cultural practices become strategies of care, resistance, and symbolic elaboration of loss. The Sarau emerges as a space of memory and affirmation of life, in contrast to the logics of exclusion and death imposed by the State. The methodology is based on situated experiential narrative, with both visual and narrative resources, recognizing gaps and incompleteness as part of the knowledge production process. Four distinct scenarios were simulated, considering different approaches (based on equilibrium and chemical kinetics) and process pressurization points, with the objective of producing 30,000 tons of hydrogen per year. This production is equivalent to approximately 40% of the current demand for ammonia imported into Brazil. The results indicated that all scenarios exceeded the 30,000 tons of hydrogen per year mark, with the configuration using two-stage compression after steam reforming standing out as offering the best economic performance. The cost of the electrical utility was determined to be US$0.42/kg of H₂ produced for the compressor and US$0.001/kg of H₂ for the pump, based on data obtained from the simulator. Considering the opportunity cost of ethanol of US$0.60/kg, the estimated cost is approximately US$2.30 per kilogram of hydrogen produced. This study investigates the experience of a donut e-commerce business that achieved great success during this period, analyzing the strategies adopted to adapt to the new scenario and the factors that contributed to the expansion of the venture. The research covers the company's emergence and rapid growth, as well as the challenges it faced, including the impact of the operation's closure, and was conducted based on an experience report written by the founder herself. The e-commerce started informally and, with limited resources, faced difficulties related to the lack of strategic planning, logistics structure, and business formalization, which ended up limiting its expansion. Over time, however, the business overcame these obstacles and reached a sales volume of more than 500 units per week, with high demand during special dates. The team grew to up to six people, and the business also began to operate at social and corporate events. The study reflects on the impact of informality and the lack of planning, showing how these factors affected the growth and success of the business. The excessive use of chemical compounds, derived from metals and metalloids used in these sectors, contributes to the release of particle contaminants into the atmosphere. When deposited in aquatic environments, these particles reach the species that occur in that ecosystem, progressively increasing the toxicity along the food chain. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of the exposition of brain tissues of tadpoles (Aquarana catesbeiana) to atmospheric particulate material (MPA) using biomarkers of exposure. The results showed that with the significant increase of metals in the water, there was a bioaccumulation of these metals on the brain, surpassing the organ detox capacity, and promoting their systemic distribution. However, the metal's presence did not change the levels of metallothionein (MT) and lipid peroxidation (LPO) but induced the malondialdehyde (MDA) formation. The test of TBARS demonstrated that it is a sensible biomarker for early detection of oxidative stress, overcoming the answer of LPO and MT levels. Thus, it was possible to analyze that tissue exposition to MPA compromises the redox homeostasis and represents an ecotoxicological risk to tadpoles. The emergence and rapid spread of respiratory and systemic viruses have significantly marked the global health scenario in recent decades. From HIV to SARS-CoV-2, viral agents have caused health crises with high human and economic costs, reinforcing the importance of effective surveillance, diagnosis, and containment strategies. Despite the reduction in deaths due to vaccination, mass testing remains an essential measure, but still insufficient in Brazil due to limitations in cost, accessibility, and infrastructure. This work aimed to develop simpler, faster, and lower-cost molecular assays for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in saliva samples. Two methods were proposed: a colorimetric method, compatible with microtubes or 96-well microplates, and an electrochemical method, applicable in unit cells or arrays of eight cells. The assays are based on the use of magnetic particles functionalized with carboxyl groups to capture the target by anchoring DNA probes complementary to the sequences of the N gene, present in the SARS-CoV-2 RNA. Detection and quantification are performed without the need for electrode modification, extraction or amplification of genetic material. The experimental conditions were optimized and tested both on fortified saliva samples and on real samples from patients already diagnosed using the standard technique. Limits of detection and quantification ranging from fmol L⁻¹ to pmol L⁻¹ with a wide linear range were obtained. The research uses a qualitative approach and uses the experience systematization technique to describe and reflect on the practice. The meetings took place in an outpatient waiting room, transformed into an educational space, and included the participation of an interdisciplinary team composed of professionals from medicine, nursing, nutrition, physical education, and occupational therapy. Data analysis revealed six main themes: the power of groups as a care strategy; the challenges of high-risk pregnancies; the importance of an individualized approach; interdisciplinary work; the role of occupational therapy in this context; and the formative impacts of the experience. The experience allowed us to observe that group health education is an effective tool for strengthening bonds, exchanging knowledge, and supporting high-risk pregnant women. Both approaches model goals scored by each team with Poisson distributions parameterized by offensive strength, defensive strength, and a home‑field effect. Model assessment was conducted on two fronts: (i) in‑sample goodness of fit for the full season and (ii) out‑of‑sample predictive performance, using a sequential updating scheme to forecast the second half of the championship. Results reveal a clear trade‑off. The hierarchical model, through shrinkage, produced more stable and consistent forecasts but oversmoothed the extremes, underestimating the performance of the strongest and weakest teams. The independent Poisson model was more sensitive to team differences, achieving better overall fit at the cost of higher predictive variability. Both models exhibited limitations, most notably poor discrimination of draws. A scenario analysis further illustrated how each model captured the evolution of title, top four, and relegation probabilities during the final rounds. Finally, we discuss extensions to enhance predictive accuracy. These include adopting more flexible distributions, such as Negative Binomial to handle overdispersion, and draw‑inflated models, as well as incorporating betting market information either as informative priors, external benchmarks, or to simulate the financial return of betting strategies. The research adopts a theoretical and qualitative approach, using thecomparative analysis method to identify convergences and divergences between the authors.Initially, it examines Morgenthau’s theoretical foundations, highlighting his classical realistconception, especially the notions of national interest, power, and the tension with morality.Then, it analyzes Kissinger’s thought, emphasizing his pragmatic realism, the practicalapplication of his ideas as a statesman, and his historical perspective on internationalrelations. In the final chapter, the study contrasts both authors’ views, identifying how eachinterprets the role of morality in international politics, as well as their differingunderstandings of the use and function of power within the context of U.S. foreign policy. Theconclusion points out that, although both share a realist foundation, their approaches differsignificantly: Morgenthau constructs a normative theory on the moral limits andresponsibilities of power, while Kissinger adopts a more strategic and situational stance,prioritizing international stability and balance. The analysis contributes to understanding howdifferent strands of realism shape distinct views on state behavior, enriching the debate on therole of the United States in the contemporary international order.
