This dissertation analyzed the occurrence and effects of microplastics in the gastropod mollusk Pomacea figulina (Spix in Wagner, 1827), to evaluate its potential as a bioindicator in aquatic environments. The work was organized into a general introduction, three articles, and conclusions. In the first article, a protocol for rearing the species in the laboratory was developed, testing different diets to identify the ideal conditions for growth and survival. This is an essential step, given the difficulties encountered in waters with low hardness, which compromise the integrity of the shells. The results demonstrated that the combination of feed with kale was the most efficient regime, while the diet composed exclusively of kale resulted in high mortality. The second article characterized microplastics present in specimens collected from a tributary (Rio Pirajibu-Mirim - 23°29'24.2" S; 47°23'06.3" W) of the Sorocaba River, analyzing the color, shape, size, chemical characterization, and abundance of the eliminated particulates. Fibers and fragments were identified as the predominant components, and it was found that clearance is not linear, suggesting temporary retention in the digestive tract. The third article consisted of controlled exposure experiments (72 h) to polyethylene microplastics at different concentrations (10% and 20%), allowing the evaluation of elimination patterns and the possibility of bioaccumulation. Taken together, the results demonstrate that P. figulina presented characteristics favorable to biomonitoring, such as regional abundance, capacity to ingest plastic particles, and sensibility to impacted environments. The dissertation provided data on the maintenance of the species under laboratory conditions and on the effects of microplastics on freshwater mollusks, presenting it as a promising model for studies of plastic pollution in continental ecosystems.

Predicting fire outbreaks in the Cerrado biome using meteorological variables is a relevant problem for environmental monitoring and supporting alert systems. In this work, a comparative analysis of classical machine learning models for hourly prediction of fire outbreak occurrence was carried out, based on the integration between INMET data and records from INPE's BDQueimadas. The Logistic Regression, Naive Bayes, linear SVM, Random Forest, and XGBoost models were evaluated in different data preparation scenarios, including original datasets, datasets with derived variables, KNN imputation, and imbalance treatment strategies such as SMOTE and weight balancing. The results showed that tree ensemble-based models were the most suitable for the problem, especially XGBoost, and that feature engineering and explicit imbalance treatment contributed decisively to increased performance, especially in metrics more sensitive to the detection of the positive class, such as PR - AUC and F1-score.

The increasing demand for data processing in compute-intensive applications, such as intelligent systems and streaming applications, has driven the adoption of Multi-Core and many-core architectures as an alternative to single-core systems. In this context, Network-on-Chip (NoC)-based architectures have emerged as an efficient solution for communication among multiple cores. However, the problem of task mapping in these architectures, especially in scenarios involving multiple concurrent applications, remains challenging, as it requires the simultaneous optimization of several metrics, such as energy consumption, latency, load balancing, and fault tolerance. In this context, in this work is proposed a framework for the study of task mapping in NoC-based many-core architectures, with a focus on multi-application environments. The approach integrates a multi-objective optimization module, developed in MATLAB, responsible for generating mapping solutions and analyzing the Pareto front, with a high-level NoC simulator implemented in Python, which enables the evaluation of mapping strategies through packet-level network traffic simulation. The proposed tool enables systematic design space exploration, allowing comparative analysis of different mapping strategies, visualization of performance metrics, and extraction of statistical results. Furthermore, the abstraction level adopted in the simulator supports rapid experimentation and the evaluation of complex scenarios without requiring detailed hardware-level modeling. The obtained results indicate that the proposed framework is effective in supporting multi-objective task mapping studies in many-core architectures, contributing as a flexible and accessible tool for performance analysis, education, and the development of new mapping strategies in NoC-based systems.

Software testing is a primary activity to achieve good quality standards, where developers rely on automated tests to identify and fix software bugs and validate solutions. These tests are sometimes unreliable and present non-deterministic results, such as passing and failing when executing the same code and test several times. This type of inconsistent test is called flaky test. While the literature presents many initiatives to identify flaky tests, rerunning the tests several times remains the primary approach to debugging and analyzing test flakiness. This master’s thesis presents an approach that enhances rerun-driven flaky test detection by applying container orchestration so that flaky tests are detected faster, and more flaky tests are uncovered. To do so, we employ container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes and other tools, like Grafana, Prometheus, and Loki. The proposed approach is instantiated in a tool called FlakyTestLab. We evaluated FlakyTestLab with twenty-eight open source projects, being fourteen in Java and fourteen in Python. Using a High-End computer, FlakyTestLab performs reruns on average 76.93% faster than a baseline, and is 300% faster than the baseline in finding the first failure. FlakyTestLab detected flaky tests up to 143.40% more than the baseline. On the other hand, we observe that the flakiness ratio decreased when FlakyTestLab employed more parallelism.

This research investigates the movements that make an act of creation possible, based on three moments in the fhilosofhy of Gilles Deleuze (and Féliz Guattari): the event in The Logic of Sense, desire and its machinic Productions in Anti-Oedipus; and the aberrant movements of the Eart in A Thousand Plateaus. In all these movements, the body without organs appear a central as a central operator of creation, insofar as it is capable of decoding and desterritorializing strata, disorgorganizing forms, and releasing flows. If, in The Logico of Sense, the body is tensed to think the incorporeal effects that arise from its mixtures depth, giving rise to the event that makes language possible, then, in Anti-Oedipus and A Thousand Plateaus, the body acquires ever greater dimensions, rising to the surface and instituting a plane of consistency upon which all reality is produced and desire is assembled. In this sense, desire is investigated as a revolutinary power, while at the same time can be captured, losing its productive power and transforming itself into a desire for death.

With the growth of data volume, recommendation systems have evolved from static batch approaches to incremental models, allowing intelligent agents to treat recommendation as a dynamic decision process and learn continuously from user feedback. However, by prioritizing stages such as policy optimization and reward modeling, the current literature neglects important aspects of these systems, such as context representation and temporal consumption dynamics, factors intrinsically related to the continuous recommendation scenario. Based on this gap, this work introduces TAI2Vec, an item embedding generation model that integrates temporal variables to create latent representations adaptable to different consumption rhythms. Through an extensive experimental evaluation, covering from similarity recommendations to incremental learning algorithms based on bandits, it is demonstrated that TAI2Vec surpasses traditional methods in recommendation tasks, especially in scenarios with data scarcity, evidencing the capacity that temporal information has in enriching contextual learning in different recommendation approaches. The source code for the TAI2Vec methods is publicly available at: https://github.com/UFSCar-LaSID/tai2vec.

Democracia, liberdade e gênero: ressignificações perigosas no discurso de Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022)

This study analyzes how the presidential discourse of Jair Bolsonaro, disseminated in live streams on YouTube between 2019 and 2022, operates through the reconfiguration of the meanings of freedom and democracy, contributing to processes of dedemocratization in which democracy is undermined in the name of democracy itself. To investigate how the discourse of Jair Bolsonaro reformulates the concepts of freedom and democracy in order to promote dedemocratization, the transcriptions of the live streams were analyzed by Content Analysis, with the aid of the software MAXQDA. It is argued that Bolsonaro’s discourse operates through three articulated moves. First, it constructs a binary opposition that associates the left with communism, corruption, and dictatorship, while presenting the right as synonymous with democracy and freedom, a narrative that enables the delegitimization of democratic institutions portrayed as infiltrated and captured by an ideological enemy. Second, it redefines the meaning of freedom and democracy by linking them to the defense of traditional Christian morality, framing feminist and gender agendas as threats to the family, to society, and to democracy itself. Finally, it identifies democracy with the figure of the leader and with the will of his followers, converting personal loyalty into a criterion of political legitimacy and hollowing out democratic pluralism. The results show that this discursive configuration delegitimizes democratic institutions and the defense of gender- and sexuality-related rights in the public debate, personalizes political authority by transforming loyalty to the leader into a criterion of legitimacy, treats political opponents as enemies and restricts pluralism, and normalizes the acceptance of extra-institutional solutions, such as coups d’état, thus contributing to processes of democratic erosion in Brazil.
