Desmatamento e intensificação de uso da terra na reserva da biosfera da floresta Mbaracayú, Paraguai por meio de imagens de satélite

Abstract

Changes in land cover and land use have severe impacts on the provision of ecosystem services, with the monitoring of changes in the landscape thus acquiring a preponderant role in achieving sustainable development. In this work, we evaluate the change and intensification of land use in the Mbaracayú Forest Biosphere Reserve in Paraguay, using satellite images on a 20-year time scale, processed with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). We observed a 42% decrease in native forest and an increase in the productive area of 174% from 1999 to 2019, together with the intensification of land use within the reserve. It is important to carry out a detailed assessment of the reserve's preservation actions, especially those related to soils, and to continue monitoring processes, together with the projection of new management alternatives for the reserve's buffer and transition areas.
