Resumo

The Southwest Paulista known as one of the least "developed" territories of the State of São Paulo (Brazil) has been promoting debates and discussing ways to leverage economic and social development. This discussion raises the importance of agribusiness as a generator of employment and income. It is a territory that historically relies on the presence of forestry, among other activities, and more recently has seen the advance of soybeans replacing the cultivation of beans. To contribute to the debate, our objective is to bring visibility to data from the Occupational Safety and Health Observatory, showing the ranking of the sectors with the most notifications of absences and deaths of workers in this region. We raised the hypothesis that it is precisely the sectors involved with agribusiness that are the ones that most present cases of worker leave and death. These data are usually hidden from the development debate, which, by prioritizing information on income and employment, disregard the advance of precarious work that results in more exploitation and violence in the worker's body and life. A bibliographic research was carried out based on a quali-quantitative approach, as well as the collection of data made available by the Occupational Safety and Health Observatory for the years 2010 to 2020. It was found that among the agribusiness sectors with notifications of accidents in the work at CAT, the sectors of forestry, citriculture and dairy production have a higher incidence of cases in the period from 2012 to 2020 in Southwest São Paulo.
